  • With the promise of up to $6 million worth of Bitcoin locked on this Samsung Galaxy phone, it was a challenge we couldn't refuse. In this episode, Joe moves his lab to a Seattle hotel room to hack the phone live with owner Lavar, a transit operator, and his friend Jon. Was the adventure worth it!?

To juggle walk throughs of various angles on the topic delivered to-camera, differnet content per topic from various folks underneath the umbrella of the track list of the larger big band concert itself is engaging and refined. To make a dense taccess like this so digestible is really something. Awesome work jack!!

Honestly, probably because it feels like it's produced by the same studio doing every formulated reality show on network television. It's a topic tech enthusiasts, engineers, programmers, etc. would love to see in detail but it's edited like an episode of Hoarders and some DIY makeover show. It tries to appeal to a wide audience and checks a lot of boxes while not really focusing on any of them.
I'm not saying it's bad or necessarily an issue. It's obviously pulling in views but it's basically the vanilla ice cream of content creation. He needs to figure out who his audience is.
      Just my two cents.

Yeah, the sucky part was we could see the ending from a mile away. There's loads of people out there with supposed Btc from "the early days" but it comes down to just a few coins from only a few years ago.
There's a huge difference between spending $900 in 2012-ish to buy 15 coins, compared to spending $400 in 2017-ish to buy 0.15 coins. And then another huge difference trading them for $60k versus $20k per coin. One amounts to roughly $1Million, the other to $3,000.
Or in this case, difference between $6Million versus $600.

@Joe Grand - Would you happen to have experience with hacking into TWRP recovery for Android? I have a bunch of photos that I haven't backed up and they are stored in the Internal Storage of my Android phone. It doesn't have support for microSD, so everything is stored on the built-in eMMC storage. My phone is rooted and when I did a downgrade, it somehow caused my /DATA partition to be encrypted, which means I also cannot get to any files under Internal Storage. Normally, DATA partition is separate to Internal Storage, but the encryption on the Internal Storage is somehow tied to DATA partition. Under TWRP, I can FORMAT DATA and this will reset everything and let me use the phone as normal again. However, this means that everything in DATA is wiped (I have a backup), but this also means that Internal Storage will be wiped (which I do not have a backup of). In TWRP, it can't decrypt user 0, which is the default user you're logged in with on an Android phone. I've tried all the passwords I know of and none of them work. There is no lockscreen configured.

This video along with your previous have got to be two of the most intriguing and entertaining videos I’ve ever seen. I absolutely love your documentary style and you just seem like such a great person with a true passion for hardware hacking. Your troubleshooting process is something I can heavily relate to in my own experience and I truly hope you continue to make videos just like this, especially now that you have thousands of people lined up in need of your help. Regardless of the outcome, what you’re doing is great and also extremely educational. Keep it up Joe!

As a software engineer this makes so much sense and makes hardware hacking seem so simple but in reality I know that electrical engineering is worlds beyond how simple someone experienced like Joe makes it look.
It’s amazing how much existing work can be reused here, eg. The JTag interface and software, the database mapping each checksum to its seed is so cool.
