Burdon (was) what Jagger (thought) he was.
When i was young, never thought we would be existing in such an altered world.
Fact. Twilight zone every day.
Eric's early altered years: "Burdon describes his early school years as a "dark nightmare" that "should've been penned by Charles Dickens". Due to the river pollution and humidity in Newcastle he suffered asthma attacks daily. During primary school, he was "stuck at the rear of the classroom of around 40 to 50 kids and received constant harassment from kids and teachers alike." He goes on to say his primary school was "jammed between a slaughterhouse and a shipyard on the banks of the Tyne. Some teachers were sadistic - others pretended not to notice - and sexual molestation and regular corporal punishment with a leather strap was the order of the day."
@@oppothumbs1 ты здоров ?
We looked to the future with optimism then, I am glad I was young when I was.
How much more ALTERED will this WORLD become?
"I was so much older then, when I was young." Such a powerful line.
I'd agree with this were it not for the fact that, three years earlier, Dylan had written "Ah, but I was so much older then, I'm younger than that now."
@@johnvanbomel4536 It is not a zero sum game. Art builds. Both are beautiful.
@@johnvanbomel4536 Sure… funny thing, y'know, Ramones covered both these songs. That's what brought me to this clip.
My favorite lyrics were The pain was much stronger the laugh was so much louder. When I was young.
My favorite line:
"Pain more painful, my laughter much louder...(when I was young)"
Their most underrated track....RIGHT HERE!
Talent wise, The Animals are a top ten all-time Rock and Roll band. Their songs and lyrics were, are and always will be, in touch with reality. They were great and ahead of their time.
Let go of your youth Georgie boy it’s gone and it’s insignificant

THE ANIMALS WERE MY FAVORITE GROUP IN THE 60'S. THEN I WAS DRAFTED AND SENT TO A WORTHLESS WAR IN VIETNAM. THEY BANNED ERIC BURDON'S SONG "WE GOTTA GET OUT OF THIS PLACE" FROM ARMED FORCES RADIO. I SURVIVED WHEN MANY OTHERS DID NOT, AND WAS LUCKY TO SEE ERIC BURDON IN CONCERT IN LAUGHLIN, NEVADA A FEW YEARS AGO. HIS VOICE STILL STANDS ATTENTION TODAY. STRONG AND ANGRY! I LOVED IT, JUST SAYING.
Thank you for your service! 🇺🇸👊
So sorry for both of you. Mr Plunkett inculded. i do thank you for your service but im not quite sure of the point of modern war
Ty for your service and how you were treated when you came back from that useless war. God bless..........
Thank you!
Respect
Eric Burdon was a total ORIGINAL. Nobody sounded like him-he was so raw and powerful. "Feral," you might call it.
20-years after he recorded this song, when I was still a bartender, he suddenly walked into my bar, and sat down. I was so thrilled I could hardly maintain my composure, so I just pretended not to recognize him. When I asked him his occupation, he just said, "I write songs." Later, he told me that he lived in Palm Springs, "because he loved the solitude of the desert," quite a change from where he was born, in Newcastle, England. When it came time to pay his bill, I said: "This one's on me." When he looked at me with a somewhat puzzled expression, I replied, "Do you know how many times my band played "House of the Rising Sun"?? He smiled, then handed me a ticket to catch a concert right after I got off work, to see the great jazz singer, Mose Allison. Two of my heroes, in the same night!! I'll never forget it:)
awesome beyond words!
and well played!
Wow! What a great story! I agree with you 100%, and I've never met EVB, but thank G-d, I did get to see him with my wonderful wife in September at Andiamo's in Warren, Michigan. I am so hooked on him I can't believe it. He is a true treasure.
Tip saver how cool is that, you might be the luckiest man on this planet
👍❤️🙏🏻
Another wonderful song for the 6-piece Eric berkman oh my God he's fabulous thank you for the memories and keep on singing
I am 19 & this is the best music ever I listen to it all the time from the crap we have today & the animals are one of the best
Check out War, Ten Years After, maybe throw in some Black Sabbath, and Yes.
Same age as my daughter :))) I heard this at 3 yrs old, I'm 58 now. Amazing how music brings people together eh x

I hope, you will discover all the super groups, we had in the 60th 70th
No one sings like EB, that guy just has power, range and soul oozing out of every note.
So true
" soul" nailed it. be well
Agree. 100%.
Steve Marriott!

My favorite Animals song reminds me of my youth.
Eric you may be 80 now but you will always be young in my heart and ears. Thank you for a lifetime of music my friend
PEACE and LOVE
This is what you call music. Straight to the point . None of the shit they rave on about in today's music.
True, today's music can't even compare
And what’s more we were 15 plus!
Aye.
None of that rap crap.
Are you going to spend the rest of your life bitching about today's music? You sound like your parents' generation bitching about rock and roll.
Yes, Erik Burden was controversial but his messages came through loud and clear! He sang from the heart and sent a message to everyone!
Rock on Eric!
Hi there... How are you doing? Hope you are fine and staying safe??
Eric controversial, that's news ..
@@glennhfriedman4571 Yeah I was going to ask her what that meant.
Happy 80th Birthday, Eric!
In their heyday, The Animals could blow the Stones off the stage. Check out the NME awards for around 1965. Eric Burdon is one of the very best voices in rock.
The Beatles were on that bill, and although I don't think they compare to them with song writing and creativity, they blew everyone off the stage that night, including the Fab 4.
The animals were really popular with the song "House of the rising sun!" Best ever recorded! ❤
I doubt that. First off the Stones wrote their own songs, The Animals didn't. Don't get me wrong Eric Burdon is great and so are the Stones.
True, when the Stones got into their stride, they wrote their own stuff but in the early days, they were performing and recording songs by Lennon/McCartney, Buddy Holly, Bo Diddley, Chuck Berry etc. Who knows, if the Animals had stayed together, they might have started writing their own material too.

The Animals produced some of the best classics of the 60's.
I LOVED THE ANIMALS WHEN I WAS YOUNG. I STILL DO BUT NOW I AM OLD. I WOULD GIVE ANYTHING TO GO BACK TO THOSE DAYS.
Me too
Today I have been feeling so down and all I can do is listen to all the songs of my youth 😂 and scream. Very therapeutic.
Can you just imagine being young again! What a great life!
I can. Hearing this makes getting older suck.
Not with republicans retrobte.
@@darwinkuby5846 what does that mean Durwood Scumby?
Why is there NOT a voice like this today?? Plus the music was far richer in every way with meaning and life changing tunes.
This song has always been like some mystical, epic, story to me, sending me back through the ages.
Love this song just about everything he sang I saw him when I was 15❤❤❤
I'm in love with Eric, the charm of a bad boy with a baby face at it's finest
lol, you got it!!!
Urszula Żukowska. Ikr. He is also very intelligent and talented. Very humble down to earth when you hear him in interviews.
Urszu I fell The same
What an incredible voice Eric has. Just magnificent.
My favorite 60's British band. Then the Moody Blues. I bought an album in small town Ontario called the Best of the British. Had House of the Rising Sun and We Gotta Get Out of This Place. Yep.🤔⏳⏳😪
Für mich einer der besten " Stehblues " Songs in den 60ern
Ya Eric Burton! Good looking man! Lol 😆 and good singer! The animals band. 1967 I was 11 yrs old! But I love to listen to their songs the 1960s was a different era! Life was pretty much like the song his sang! Takes you back each time! Thank God we can at least go back in our minds! Lol 😆 good video 📹
Hi there... How are you doing? Hope you are fine and staying safe??
Listened to this on the school bus at the age of 10 .I am 55 years old now . We had a cool driver who played a "current " L.A. station . I became a juvenile delinquent pretty soon afterwards . This song just has a "dark " element that I related to . Nothing bad to say about it ! I've had a good life . Classic ! Thanks uploader !
Hey Randall, love the comment. I'm 53 and had my moments of madness growing up in sleepy old Brisbane, Australia. So here's to euphoric recall and many great classics on this RUclips. Loved Sky Pilot back in the day too.
I cut my teeth to music listening to the LA stations KMET, KRLA, KHJ...King Biscuit Flower Hour was one of my Fav's and Doctor Demento.
TheRumphumper Sky Pilot is and awesome song!
I grew up with these guys. Love them. Boy am I old.
My Birthday is today!
This song came out 54 years ago!
WOW!
Those were the good old days, I sure do miss them.
Animals knew how to rock! Eric Burton another king of rock! 💐🦜💐🦜
Eric is an underrated vocalist .

He wasn't back in the sixties
Everyone who knows about music rates him

@@NormusJohnson88 by general media & classic rock radio ..they all love robert plant ,freddy mercury , etc (and rightfully so) but really ..how often do we hear that Eric had great rock/ blues vocals ?
Happy birthday mr burdon!
I first heard Animals at thirteen.
They were so cool and I was pretty green
And I learned quite a lot when I was young
♥ 11 May 1941 - HAPPY BIRTHDAY to living legend ERIC BURDON who turns 79-years today. Eric you're the greatest and we love you. Heartfelt and best birthday wishes radiate out to you along with tons of appreciation and thanks from your hoards of fans worldwide. Here's to you lovely man. x

Shit hes that old. Damn
One of the great bands of the sixties. Eric Burdon was one the greates lead vocalists around
Yes
The Animals were already my favorite group in the 60's although I wasn't even born back then.
I was 10 in 1967 never knew him I was in a home for children. But f I love him.
I have been collecting The Animal's since 13,I'm now 57.I first saw Eric Burdon at Sunken Gardens here in San Antonio,Tx. back in the late 1990's.I was in front of the stage making a Peace Sign and right before he played the last song "Don't Bring Me Down",he takes off his bandana and tosses it to me.I put it in a shadow box along with my ticket stub and a newspaper segment about his concert..It has strands of his hair that are in the knot where he tied it on.A personal gift to me. J.J.F.
Save the D.N.A.
Maybe for a clone or two 🤔
93 Appleton Wisconsin Eric autographed my Eric burdon declares war and he put a peace sign around the white and black hands on the cover he also autographed my wife's chest after I picked her up and set her on stage what an animal
That is a treasure
An incredible vocalist and band whose music is just as powerful today.
A diamond in the rough outstanding
there will never again be such music as in this era. who has not experienced this time has not lived.
Another great song by the Animals and the sexy voice of Eric Burdon. Wow!
His voice is just as great in person as it is on his records. Not many singers can achieve that. Just great!
eric , the best british r.b singer ever,
You know you’re old when you start reminiscing of the days of “real” music.
This song is like fine wine, the older the better.
some of the best music of the sixties they gave the beatles a run for there money
It was the Beatles cartoon that put them over the top...perhaps a kids show titled When I was young....Spill the Wine, a show about a bunch of goofs working at a winery, ala The Monkees
Live, and great!
Yeah he could sing! House of the rising sun was my favorite.
Their music was so mature compared to most music of the time. It is timeless and that's why it is still good today. Even though he was young, his voice sounded like it had lived a lifetime.
Wonderful
Génial Very Good music Thank mister BURDON
Eric,you are beautiful.
Thanks for S.H.
Talented Musicians!!That lead singer kicks Ass!!
I have always liked this dude. Cool s hit
The Coolest
When I was young ,at 18 I was fighting for my life and my brothers around me , in a far away place called Viet Nam .
Love the Animals
Oh, so much soul in this song. What guy can't totally relate here.....
The animals were one great bands of the 60s, the house of the riseing sun was one of them.
Erick burdon el hombre blanco w quería ser negro buena voz buen grupo the animales le faltó un acompañamiento como compositores Lennon mc cartney Jagger Richards si hubiese integrado the beatles hubiese tenido más fuerza el rock and roll britanico
These guys were ahead of their time!!
Best male vocalist that I have ever seen live hands down. And I've seen Mercury, Plant, Jagger, Meatloaf, Marriott, Cummings to name a few of the more memorable ones that I can remember
Adding the fiddle to this song, really made it special
Eric Burdon underrated in that Era
My first dance was to Sky Pilot. If Eric were to arrive today, he would put most bands to shame.
I was young when I first heard this, 64 now👍
Me too!
turning 68 tomorrow

Happy Birthday!
THE voice of the sixties
Happy Birthday Wishes to Eric Burdon!! May 11!! Peace and Love!!!🌺💜
Great music.
So much more to the animals than just The house of the rising sun.
True but for me The House of rasing sun is the best song ever
Such A Brilliant Song!!!,!, Always Kicks My ASS,!,!,! We Love It Here In Costa Mesa Ca!!!,!, ManyThanx
I don't think the Animals Eriic Burton never got there fair share of the limelight for as spectacular as they were they were the best and totally loved by me and my friends. I still dolisten to them whenever I can I love them.
this song saved so many souls.
Soooo great....
His father was a conscientious objector and Eric was very proud of that
Эрик , ты крут!!!❤❤❤
I'm so in love and obsessed with Eric and the animals too awesome
Don't get much better than that
I was 12 when this song came out - loved it then, love it now.
Great group from my past. So long Hilton! The Doors definitely were inspired by the Animals....
Saw Eric B. perform at the Miami Jai-a-lai in the early 70's.At this time he decided to join the band "War."Great show!
Back then, The Animals were the "bad boys" of rock n' roll...still loved today..wish I could go back and live those days..
I was there, sacred times when people were real.
So do l.
Eric Burdon, my all time favorite rock singer!
Same for me
A favorite of the era!!

When I was young too!!! Awesome time the sixties. We have been through sooooo much.
so great, so deep and simple.

63 here. Yep, but do you remember those days? Lol! Mostly those days are what keeps me going these days. My youth is my "happy place." Take care old man, lol. I'm right behind you.
Absolutely adore the Man. These songs got me thru some very hard times, still do
This was on the charts when I too, was young, and in the Vietnam War as a US Marine.
@Yogi Bear thank you.
A very rare situation where you LOVE the second incarnation of the band just as much as the first !
Sheer Genius .People back then had to have actual talent , none of that computer enhanced manufactured garbage they call music these days .
One day I came across three 14 year olds listening to this song(around 2010) They had no clue the song was over 40 years old. I told those kids they had class & were awesome. Hope they discovered more music of the era.
AMEN Mark ! What has happened to music , our younger generation , and AMERICA ?
Roger Crowder No Kidding...What has Happened?????
321reh some kids discover the old music either by the radio or by accident, or maybe they have an older relative who still has their old 45s & LPs (I do) & realize that good music doesn't consist of hip hop, rap or Justin Bieber.
did they immediately start twerkin? lol
