@@AMD1 Hi yes, my mother idol was Elvis. Your right, I did not like him much, As my mom liked Elvis. Santra, she did not like. She said he was a jerk, I saw what she said watching him on TV, he was a jerk. AHHH, now let tell you my moment of comming to terms: In 1975, I am in California driving down highway 101 just south of San Francisco heading north. I will never forget even the small details of what happened. The radio was on. I drove from Georgia to California. I was in the army, I was going to visit my dad in Windsor, California. I was going to S Korea in about 3 weeks. So while on the road, it was set to AM radio. I was listening to that while crossing the the country. The news comes on. They said that Elvis Presley had died. I did not think much about it. Right after the the DJ was talking about Elvis. Than he puts on this Elvis song I never heard of. He puts on, The Ghetto. I did not change the channel, like normal, I listened to that song start to finish. I lost it, I had to turn off 101 to the SFO exit. Than I pulled off the road, and cried my eyes out. I could not belive the sexey snake, Elvis, ever sung a song like that.... So yes, I love the music I was brought up on. But, even I a hard core rock and Roller likes some of my moms songs, and Tony Bennett, and even Elvis, especially The Ghetto. So I learned the hard way, not to dismiss my mom's generation of songs, I just like mine better. As for Elvis, The Ghetto, Suspicious Minds and even others. I admit I like. This is about Monterey Pop and the music I love. You asked me a question I could not slide a slick answer to you. I think you wanted my truth to the question you asked. I hope you got my answer. The answer may not be right or wrong, but it is honest, from my heart. And all typed, or tapped out on my phone, that is how bad I wanted to answer you. I have a lot of comments here under Monterey Pop. Please read them. Dave in Sierra Vista Az.
And I was born in the end of this beautiful generation 1966, but I have a hippie soul, and I do remember some things. Wished I knew more of all this... ❤️☮️
The base player on this song is what impressed me. That dude sure can pluck. As a young man, I used to listen to CKLW outta Detroit when I first heard this song in the late 60s. Still gives me goose bumps.
Such instrumental depth in this song. Great bass work, complemented with the brass section. Almost like an orchestra. You don't hear music like this anymore.
I was there back in the day with the British invasion and I’ll tell you this, as soon as Eric 💋💋came out with the boys the Beatles went into fourth place and the stones went into second place third place went to the Dave Clark five for me(Mike Smith) R.I.P.
Last night I watched a DVD of the Monterey Pop Music Festival. I couldn't get over how GOOD LOOKING almost all of the girls were !!! (I'm now 67 years old). Ravi Shankar and his musicians did the last number on the DVD. After he finished, the crowd gave him an 8-minute standing ovation. That was the music I grew up with...
Of course California girls. I graduated H S the week before, Monterey pop festival from Chatsworth, in CA. Summer of love. 2 yrs later went to 3 day festival in Northridge at Devonshire Downs. A month or so before Woodstock. A lot of same groups.
I'm 70 all the girs back than were good looking. Fat as a way of life was yet to happen, Style was in. Will remember a teen dance 1967. The girl had gloves up to her elbows and a pill box hat. We knew each other only from that dance. we still often communicate guess were both hanging on to that moment
Brad, and to the others who read this. I am now also 67. Growing up in the San Francisco bay. I had seen it all. The music, the girls, the attitude, of the of the people was magical. It saddens me to know, that a moment in time I lived in, will never be repeated. I was very lucky to have lived in that time period. So the years roll by, and the music now is down right terrible. I have always believed that music video, should help promote the song. Now the videos are a separate entity. They compete for the best video. What is wrong with that comparison ? The song. The song is a backround, to beautiful women shaking their stuff. The song just seens to be the second priority. The music video is rubbish. Famous on to its self. In other words, the song should stand by itself. Sorry, off topic, but, this written. Back in the 60s, and the early 70s, a song stood on its own. How many people bought, it and liked it, was the measuring stick. Now??? It is a mystery to me. My thoughts on a Monday night. So to you all that have commented, I think you see what I also see. The music is almost gone, and what is left? A music video of pretty woman dancing in front of a camera. The song they are playing in the background, is suffering, or worse, people buy an album/CD just for the slick video. The music, be dammed. Dave in Sierra Vista Az
I’m 76, grew up in that era. I would agree, from a musical standpoint it was a very creative time. Monterey is probably my favorite from Eric Burdon and the video images are perfectly edited in. Also note that Eric assembled the Funk group, War. He sang often with them. Don’t let Me be Misunderstood is another of my Burdon faves. It talks about my life. Great to see and hear this classic on RUclips. Thanks for uploading.
I miss lsd, I use to experiment alot with it back then and had alot of great times with my lady friends doing well stuff on it..you can just use your imagination haha but the music played a major role on it and influenced a Multi Generation movement of stopping the hate and spreading peace and love and I was glad to be a part of it. Cheers Fellas ✌
I'm a year late for commenting but yeah, that bass is absolutely wicked and it's a shame that all most people hear is Eric Burdon and Ravi Shankar...but that's understandable I guess lol. My #1 bass performance is from Jack Bruce on the Crossroads track from the "Wheels of Fire" album, that performance is an absolute masterpiece. If you've never listened to the song put it on, crank it up, and listen to a master bass player at his finest. Peace
@@ricko2486 Jack was a legend, I remember reading that Ginger Baker, fired him from Cream, but he would show up at every gig anyway, he finally got the job. No. Your right, they themselves, may have been trapped in the stuff that they are playing. We the older generation, should have them listen to some of our music. Maybe, that would sway some of them to some of our songs. So to you all, silver dreams.

@@davidewing5605 Your parents generation were saying the same thing about your psychedelic music during the 1960s. It wasn't the classical, or jazz that they grew up with. Maybe they should have had you listen to their music. Maybe, that would sway some of your generation to their songs.
RIGHT.
And I was born in the end of this beautiful generation 1966, but I have a hippie soul, and I do remember some things. Wished I knew more of all this... ❤️☮️
I could just image what listening to the radio in the sixties would have been like, my god, every day a new incredibly hit masterpiece!
It was magical although we did not realize this at the time. There were so much good music! I had hundreds of albums.
FM radio didn’t even start until the late 60s. AM got it done though 👍🏼.
Not old enought to by records and the radio in Sweden have one hour on saturday...with "popmusik" early sixties was like....stoneage
We were surrounded by wonder.
We were blessed!
You don't hear music like this anymore.
i always love to hear some good bass
Cklw the motor cityyyyy lol 👏 born in 62, *60s n 70s babieeeeee
Amazing
Danny McCullough played bass. MGM record producer Tom Wilson put the bass on Monterey high up in the sound mix.
Credit MGM record producer Tom Wilson who arranged it.
Eric Burdon was amazing that he wrote these songs about events etc
This is one of the best Jams ever Eric Burdon was so far ahead......
I was there back in the day with the British invasion and I’ll tell you this, as soon as Eric 💋💋came out with the boys the Beatles went into fourth place and the stones went into second place third place went to the Dave Clark five for me(Mike Smith) R.I.P.
I have on DVD both Monterey Pop and Woodstock.
@@billybergendahl3515 Hang on to them They are where it all began Missed Monterey but I sure didn,t miss Woodstock Peace Bro
Now, you cant tell the women from the tattoos.

Who & where is the blond girl on the face of this video
I’m 76, grew up in that era. I would agree, from a musical standpoint it was a very creative time. Monterey is probably my favorite from Eric Burdon and the video images are perfectly edited in. Also note that Eric assembled the Funk group, War. He sang often with them. Don’t let Me be Misunderstood is another of my Burdon faves. It talks about my life. Great to see and hear this classic on RUclips. Thanks for uploading.
Thank you, for this. 👍🏼
I feel blessed I was a teenager in the 60s, this song more or less sums up
That era
You can say that again!!
same here--music-the arts, culture was at peak
Right there with your brother
I miss lsd, I use to experiment alot with it back then and had alot of great times with my lady friends doing well stuff on it..you can just use your imagination haha but the music played a major role on it and influenced a Multi Generation movement of stopping the hate and spreading peace and love and I was glad to be a part of it. Cheers Fellas ✌
You were lucky. :)
I was born in 1968. Missed all of the 60’s😞. But my parents lived through the 60’s & I envy that!!
81 and still rockin!
Bourdon a legendary British balladeer! Monterey is a legendary piece of Music 🎵🎶 that's intrinsic! Bourdon is magnificent!
THAT MUSIC TIME PERIOD WILL NEVER DIE. WILL NOT EVERY BE REPLACED. TODAY THE BIG STARS DON'T COME CLOSE TO ALL THESE GROUPS BACK IN 60S AND 70S.
"You wanna find the truth in life

The Animals were the first group I ever saw on stage around 1966. Loved Eric ever since ❤️
That time people were pretty cool. Today no one is cool. They pretend that they are, but they are not! I miss the good old days with good music.
You are exactly right
Were too old to know what is cool today. Check back in 50 years. See what the young people of today think then.

Love that wicked bass line.......
If you want to hear a wicked bass line, try Heaven and Hell, with Ronnie James Dio, BLACK SABBATH, Live HQ......or "PLEASUREDOME" LIVE, by Frankie goes o Hollywood, kind of GLAMROCK, but what a bass line....
Danny McCullough on bass.
This was music!
Not what you hear today mostly.
Greetings from Germany. ❤❤❤
Saw Eric Burdon about 15 years ago.. he was great, and this was the best song of his set
I saw him a couple of years ago at Broadbeach Blues and he was in his seventies and still killing it.
Pure bliss ... Did not remember a.o. this awesome bass guitar! Mindblowing and psychedelia at its best.
As a musician myself, the music really was better back then. You would be surprised at the number of "Kids" who have discovered that.
Same here , that's why they freak when they hear real music LOL.. Like coming out of a dark tunnel into sunshine .

Love, love, love this magical song. Always did, always will. There was an enormous variety of music back in the day - and all of it so good. @@silverapples75 😂 obviously you’re not a musician and perhaps not from that era. Electric sitar was kind of a first for that too. Since then a lot of musicians use it for effect. I suggest perhaps opening your musical boundaries as all music has some redeeming aspects. Not your cup of tea, that’s fine. I love it 😎🙏
I was 15 when i heard Born to be wild for the first time. I was alone driving my father's Pontiac Le Mans... I floored it for the duration of the song!
If only there was a time machine to relive those Golden years. Now I'm in my Golden years and I'm still listening to the music I grew up with!!!!
I am almost 69 and I have always loved Monterey more than Woodstock. Cleaner, less chaos, more food and toilets and I can go on.
I love this song - a social commentary on the day, the magic. Brilliant use of fills in the style of different stars, putting them in this video even more brilliant. Great song, well arranged, produced.
An absolutely awesome song.
I was there for this concert and it still brings amazing memories !!!! I grew up with the Filmore East and West and have seen the best of the best
Sitting here in Monterey watching this video. I think that maybe I'm dreaming...
Incredible...
Eric Burton brought others he surrounded himself with to his level.
Van Morrison, Jackson Browne etc, these guys are true musical legions.
Was a teenager in the 60s, the Animals were my band. Loved this song and San Francisco. Went to the US from Australia 2010 to San Fran and to Monterrey, dream fulfilled 50 years later.

Down in Monterey love the energy and groove of this; crowd pics and Ravi Shankar are top notch. Eric Burdon is one cool singer, man.😅
