In 1979 me and a mate went on my CB200 to Bordon cinema (England) to see Easy Rider, we were 17, it rained all the way there. As we sat in soggy belstaff waterproofs I swore that one day I'd ride across America. Some 40 years later my wife lay ctitically ill in hospital, it was touch and go, she recovered. After that I jacked my job in, we packed our bags and headed off to California to fulfill that dream, I had never let it go. I'm not a historian, but I'd say this song has inspired a whole lotta rock. The first twenty seconds are classic. If there was a scale of 1-10 of most important/rock inspirational songs, I'd say this is an eight, at least.
I graduated from HS in 1969. I love this song !! It does bring back great memories. I want it played at my funeral too! This an d the house of THD rising sun!For those who lost their parents to earlybut have good memories with this son!…PEACE OUT ❤❤❤😇😀❤️🙏🏻

Celebrated my 70th birthday in Port A on Texas coast last weekend and beach DJ asked what song I wanted played. Without skipping a heartbeat, this one exploded in my head. Been feeling the wind in my (now thinned) hair for 53 years. Right after the snare cracks open the song, I'm 18 and a true nature child...
Yep....Cult movie...I recall watching it for the very 1st time ( then another 100 times on tv) in a movie theater in 1970 ( I was 13) here in Italy....

Bill Law, yeeaaa I am 69 but will never stop listening to "Born to be wild". I will probably drive them Nuts at the Old Age Home one day. When I take the young Nurses for a spin on my Triumph Rocket3!
Such a good song. It reminds me of this one time I was playing with my old bar band. We were on stage dying a slow death, when a motorcycle came in through the back door. A waitress spun like a top b/c of how fast the bike went past her. Our eyes met and she winked at me, as our band started playing Born to Be Wild. We had never played it before, that's the wildest part. Good times.
I don't think many people realize just how important this song is to the history of rock and metal. The metal genre was named after the "heavy metal thunder" lyric, and this is even considered by many to be the first metal song.
@@Therealist6666 my two favorite eras were the 70's and the 90's. One day, in the 90's, I was driving down the street and beautiful young petite girl flagged me down. As soon as she got into my car, wham! She punched me in the jaw. I'm sitting there rubbing it in. lol. I looked at her and I told her that I was in love. I was going to take her to a hotel, but she said she couldn't wait so I pulled over and we went at it right there in public. I started dating her, and she always wanted to do the public. Her name is Dawn. That chic was cool. 🤣

when I first discovered Easy Rider, a masterpiece of fine art, the first thing the song and the movie taught me as a third-world teenager was how important it is to be born to be wild. All my rebellion rooted in the dialogue between Fonda and Nicholson in which Hopper is not always interested. The songs, too, inspired generation, some of us arabs, amazighs, sahraouis, in short, Moroccans : we just love American genius ! Greetings to USA.
I remember being around 8 years old and seeing the opener of Easy Rider on TV with Fonda and Hopper cruising along on their choppers. I was COMPLETELY BLOWN AWAY. SPEECHLESS. I HAD NEVER SEEN ANYTHING SO INCREDIBLY COOL IN MY LIFE. I knew then and there that I would do whatever it took to get onto a motorcycle and head out on the highway. And NO ONE was going to stop me. Head out I did. 9 bikes later I still enjoy every second of being on a motorcycle. Especially on the highway.
This song remembers me of the two bicycle rides I did with my dad. The last one was 5 months ago and we pedaled 432km (268 miles). We had just two bikes, a camping tent and some food. We're planning the third one for july-august 2019. Believe it or not, he is 63 years old!
Of course, times changes, generations changes, life style changes...but, 60-70-80' s music never dies, many of them already have been classics, even the youngest generations listening and doing new versions, just as exemple, who listening again and again Madonna, she passed, her music passed as many others, but our generations music seems as will live forever.
Music has no boundaries. When it comes from the heart, the soul and the guts, whatever the genre, it will hits you deep in someways. it resonnates within your cells.
This song doesn't need anything, it has everything to be one of the best of all time, it has courage, it has feeling and above all its fearless 💪 At my funeral 💀 want it played at full volume🤘

This legendary song should be declared the > *Anthem* < of Rock'n'Roll music, and should be played over the loudspeaker before the start of every rock concert !
I saw this movie several times on TV as a kid in the early 70s. At the time I had little idea what the plot was about, but it was wonderful dreamy escapist adventure, and the music was just perfect. Dennis Hopper, Pete Fonda and Jack Nicholson were like Gods on those crazy custom motorcycles out on endless sun kissed roads. This movie was like the perfect antidote to the gloomy grey skies and industrial dilapidation of Manchester, England where I was raised. The epic cinematography blended so beautifully with this legendary Steppenwolf anthem. It just captures a golden spirited hippy trippy age that I saw a little bit of in the late 60s and wished it had not faded so tragically (Manson murders, Altamont concert disaster, Vietnam etc…) and continued long enough for me me to travel to the US and trace the tracks of my movie heroes and smoke a little weed along the way 😂
I saw this movie in 1969 in a theater. My God! The ending shook me to my soul. It was a great movie and a must-see. My boyfriend owned a bike and we rode it everywhere. I was just a young thing back then and I loved him more than anyone else in my life. I'm 76 now and he would be a tad older. Are still alive, Steve? Thanks for the memories. Remember Brighton Dam? TheBonScott33 Glad to hear it.. exactly what I did following a bad one many years ago that wasn't my fault.... It got me through the bad times.. I actually asked my family to bring in the then video I had of the film when I was allowed up off the spinal bed and I would go to the day room that had a tv and video player.. back in late 90's.. I ended up doing the advanced bike test to get my confidence back when I self discharged.... Hope it all works out for you.. I was in the NSIC at Stoke Mandeville, five months following NHS negligence after the accident.... told I would never walk again but ignored that and can stand and move now just limited mobility and heaps of pain, I still ride.. Once it's in the blood to ride it's usually there for life... All the best for a 100% recovery. Keep your sense of humour I was told and it worked.. good advise I am happy to pass on to a fellow fallen rider.

Been feeling the wind in my (now thinned) hair for 53 years. Right after the snare cracks open the song, I'm 18 and a true nature child...

Thanks for sharing
The term heavy metal does come from this song, but this song in itself is definitely not Metal, this is still Rock in my opinion

when I first discovered Easy Rider, a masterpiece of fine art, the first thing the song and the movie taught me as a third-world teenager was how important it is to be born to be wild.
All my rebellion rooted in the dialogue between Fonda and Nicholson in which Hopper is not always interested.

I’m a hiphop head, so this is my first time listening to this song entirely. I can hear why it’s a timeless classic

Get your motor runnin'
Head out on the highway
Lookin' for adventure
And whatever comes our way
Yeah Darlin' go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space
I like smoke and lightning
Heavy metal thunder
Racin' with the wind
And the feelin' that I'm under
Yeah Darlin' go make it happen
Take the world in a love embrace
Fire all of your guns at once
And explode into space
Like a true nature's child
We were born, born to be wild
We can climb so high
I never wanna die

I Love this Movie so much and the Music. It never gets old watching this Movie.
It just captures a golden spirited hippy trippy age that I saw a little bit of in the late 60s and wished it had not faded so tragically (Manson murders, Altamont concert disaster, Vietnam etc…) and continued long enough for me me to travel to the US and trace the tracks of my movie heroes and smoke a little weed along the way 😂
Essa música é pura adrenalina pra pegar estrada sem destino 🎸🎸🎸🎸
