Absolutely. I grew up on this song as I'm sure you have. Yet, as I've gotten older and have struggled through addiction, I can relate to its lyrics and mood on such an unbelievably deeper level than I'd ever imagined. Just yesterday, I was having bad cravings, and the line "I got one foot on the platform, the other foot on the train. I'm going back to New Orleans to wear that ball and chain" kept replaying in my head. I don't want to "go back to New Orleans". Today, I did not relapse. ❤ I think that the music that forms the soundtrack of your life has a profound effect on your choices, your emotions, and your ability to connect and relate. I can't think of many other songs that seem so destined for a particular artist. There are other good versions of House of the Rising Sun, but absolutely none come close to having that haunting quality that The Animals interpretation does. Burden's voice and Price's organ playing are beyond perfect for these lyrics

I can't think of many other songs that seem so destined for a particular artist. There are other good versions of House of the Rising Sun, but absolutely none come close to having that haunting quality that The Animals interpretation does. Burden's voice and Price's organ playing are beyond perfect for these lyrics

This is the first song I ever learned on the guitar that I could sing too. Eric, and then the keyboard guy were superstars. This music became the go to music for Viet nam veterans when in country. Just the best keyboard riff ever.
