Crystal Peterson of Redwater, Alberta.. this song will always remind me of you.. after we shared that incredible night together in August 1992 along the beaches of Okanagan Lake in Penticton BC.
I was born in Nov 1970, several months after this song came out. Glad to share the same year as this song. Whenever I am feeling down, this is one of my go-to songs. It never gets old (and I hope I never get old either).
Keep in mind: not only is this a great song, but this deceptively simple video was ahead of its time. I've seen so many pre-MTV music videos from the '50's-'70's and they are always so easy to spot. And I've seen so many made in the MTV era trying to look as if they was made decades earlier, and they too are always so easy to spot. There are obvious clues every time based on the differences between the way people filmed in the two eras. This music video is a glaring exception. It was made in 1970, but it looks like it was made in the '70s style today. It has modern sensibilities that didn't become widely accepted for decades. Simple steady lighting. Minimalist background. Multiple angles zooming in and out on each performer while the camera also moves laterally. Near-perfect lip sync. No visible mics/wires/studio-equipment. No colored/flashing lights. No silly camera cuts. No bandstand. No unnecessary dancers in the background. No concert footage. Props to the director, and everyone else involved.
Actually, this is only one version of the video. There was another one where they're in a park next to a busy road in London and you can see a high rise hotel in the background.
My Grandmother had a radio on top of her refrigerator and when this song came on she would dance to it. She was in her 60s then and I was about 10. I know I will be in Heaven if I here this song and I see her dancing. Rip Valerie.

Love that song! Brings back so many memories when we lived in Memphis Tn. Just young couple and a baby. Now 82 and 77 and baby 57. Time flys Love that song ,🎉❤😊
Well it’s Joyce writing but you’re close. My husband Charles is 82 born 1942 and I’m 77 born 1946. Damn I’m old. But oh boy I was going through my lessons and ran across In The Summer Time and I thought maybe I could writ the group and tell them how much we love you. Married C when I was 15 and have been married 61 years. My father was sheriff in our town and thought he would kill ne because we ran off and got married but all he said was “you made your bed now you lay in it and if you have problems don’t come back and tell me about it.”Problems well hell yea but doesn’t every marriage have problems but here we are 61 yrs later. While living in Memphis I met Elvis and got his autograph. Hecwas home at Graceland and we were going to the mall saw the gate was open and he was riding his horse. A few girls were standing at the gate so C let me out of the car and I walked over. He came over to us and said I’ll go put the horse up and come back in my gong cart and talk to you all and sign autographs big you would like. Well yea!! So he came back sign autographs. There were only 3 of us girls there. I told him my two yr old was sitting out side in the car when we finished he drove down and leaned over the wall and waved at my little girl. When I walked away he said come see me in Vegas. I said we will! So my husband and I took a three week vacation and went to Vegas and saw him at The international Hotel. He was GREAT! Sorry to be so winded. In the way back into Memphis your song was playing and we loved it and still do! Love you Joyce One day before I check out of here hope to meet you all like I did Elvis. I gave more stories but I am sure you are bored now. So I’ll sigh off! 🥰🥰😘❤️

@@WilliamSmith-vo8zu Wellllllll... everyone's forgetting rock and metal. They came out with some eyebrow-lifters in the '80s and early '90s. Rule of thumb: if the lyrics mention "love" or "loving," they mean having sex. And sometimes it was much worse than that. AC/DC is one example (love the guys, really, but let's be real). And yet rap gets the bad rap. Pun definitely intended.
@@urthboundmisfit Pff... 30 year old person here who used to listen to rap pre-mumble religiously. You must of not understood the slang because Rap from what I know is very visceral regarding putting life experiences in songs. Even a ton of top billboard chart songs had raunchy lyrics or describing realistic "hood" situations that meant what you didn't think it meant. Rap absolutely takes the cake. I can't remember how many songs mention "drank", lean, or sizzurp alone, not to mention popping molly. These days, the kids can't stop talking about popping pills or killing ops. You are WAY uneducated for the topic.

@@fannin313 Perhaps you are mistaken. the song is not naughty. Rich girls expect high treatment and even after that will cross their legs. I know that is a crude explanation. So, poor girls will definitely go out on a date with welfare bums like me. And I will ply them with flattery, good food, and fine wine (until my credit card maxes!) and so on but they can at the end of the night go home by themselves. Sometimes they call back. I don't know but there are so many weird guys out there which makes it difficult for guys like me who are not abnormal.

When this song first came out, it sounded like an 'oldie' from maybe the 1920s or 1930s. Discovering that it was a new song in 1970 really makes you wonder - what were the influences? The phrasing, the style of singing the lyrics, the aimless nature of the story being told, was NOTHING like the music in the 1970s - Led Zeppelin, The Doors, Clapton, Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, etc. You heard this song on the radio, "that's an 'oldie' tune from the 1920s or 1930s" - it was nothing like the current popular music. It's a great tune but has a life of its own. It has a happy, aimless vibe to it

Me , October 1970! Great year to be born 🎉!
Man you really hit the nail on the head and I've never considered this until reading that.

Love you Joyce
One day before I check out of here hope to meet you all like I did Elvis.

@@fannin313 Perhaps you are mistaken. the song is not naughty. Rich girls expect high treatment and even after that will cross their legs. I know that is a crude explanation. So, poor girls will definitely go out on a date with welfare bums like me. And surely enough this song never gets old at all! Ready for the summertime too!
