  • My KELTEC PMR 30 had a problem feeding rounds. It turned out to be a stuck firing pin.

    I just took my new PMR 30 too the range. I did nothing too the gun but load it and shoot it. I did not lube it at all. I shot 100 rounds through it and only had 3 failure to eject all the way. Not bad for a new gun. I have since disassembled it and lubed the hell out of it. No more problems. Love the gun.

    I broke mine in with about 600-700 40gr Maxi-Mags, polished the feed ramp with a Dremel and some toothpaste, and it is still running like a champ nearly ten years later!

    When you're holding the slide cover next to the bolt assembly, trying to see what's rubbing, you're holding the cover way too low. Line up the screw holes, then you can clearly see the part that rubs the firing pin is the raised rib in the middle of the cover, between the bolt holes.
    Those molding pin marks you mentioned are in the empty part of the slide assembly where the hammer lives.

    • @nateserpico2886
      @nateserpico2886 Месяц назад

      It is clearly that raised portion in the middle that is bearing pressure down on the firing pin if the screws are overtight. Reducing that area, or less torque on the screws causes a small tolerance gap.

    PMR 30 has so much potential. Glad folks like you are picking apart the feed problem.

    This happened to me recently..I put a pic rail and red dot on mine and it immediately began jamming. I loosened those screws on top and it began feeding again. Didn't realize there is action under that cover. I'll check that too. Thank you!

    Polish the firing pin can help. If you do polish it be careful not to over heat the pin it will weaken it and break it. And make sure to use a non abrasive polish. cleaing it up oil it on the underside and where the wear marks are but do not over oil it will gum up bad

  • @sleeve8651
    @sleeve8651 4 месяца назад

    No one ever mentions it, but I wonder if there aren't torque specifications for those screws were you can mount a Red Dot ?
    This isn't the first time I've heard of people diddling with that plate, and gum'n up the works !

    I own a pmr 30 and I've got to say, I appreciate my mosin nagant even more since spending 400 in a ammo picky pistol. I loosened the four screws on top and that helped a lot, I don't think my pin was sticking but something was binding on it. I also make sure the gun is clean and very oiled before shooting. So far I've had decent success with cci maxi mag 40 grain, but I have to hold the gun very lightly or it ftf, if I barely have a grip I can dump a mag, if i actually grab the pistol it won't feed, it's easier just shooting it with one hand. Not cool but im still figuring it all out ill be sure to spread my findings.
    Edit. Also I haven't seen many pistols with a little buffer in them, I suppose it's there to shave some wall thickness on the slide, I was thinking maybe they make the buffers a little thick, I think im going to sand the buffer down some and see if that helps, ive ran 3 mags through the gun without the buffer, and that happens to be the best the gun has ran, but I believe there needs to be at least a sliver of plastic to reduce that recoil, call me paranoid but .22mag is a little stout for how much metal is actually there

      I also like to add that recently I bought cci vmax rounds, the 30grain polymer tips that go 2200fps, they do not cycle right, ftf. But what I noticed is the tips are longer than standard bullets and they where catching on the mag wall, with some sandpaper I just sand the tips down a little and the feed just fine, I use them for hunting I don't plan on driving nails with a handgun and they seem to expand just the same

    This gun likes to be oiled and kept clean and there is a certain ammunition that loads perfectly in the magazines which will not fail to feed . Also a couple of drops of oil on the inside of the magazine release spring helped mine not have any slop or looseness. Everything so far works great .

      @@davenstorm7271 I’ve owned two for over ten years. They run great. But, there are a few simple things to remember. Use 40 grain ammo only. Anything else will be a problem. Loves hot loads. CCI maxi are great. Two, load the mag correctly! Every time I’ve seen a malfunction, the magazine is loaded wrong. Simple to do. Watch a video. These mags do not feed like a regular mag. Three, oil! I use Lucas extreme duty on the slides, or the grease. It loves oil. And clean it. Guys run 500 rounds, dry as a bone, then they piss and moan about what a shitty pistol it is. No. Do these simple things and it’ll run awesome for you. I just bought my third one last week, $420 so I had to have it. Lubed it up, and I e put 200 rounds through it and not one problem. Good luck and good shooting

      A customer brought in one of these to install the ultimate upgrade kit. What a nightmare. The gun would not run right. Mcarbo has no customer service, will not answer emails requesting help. The kit cost almost as much as the gun and still would not run right. It took me about 6 weeks and I had to BUY replacement parts from Mcarbo because they would not replace the bad parts. I lost about $300 in time getting this gun to finally work. I will never touch another one. I have never recommended Keltecs to anyone and I most certainly never work on one again.

    I've never seen a gun that had to be worked on or tweeked so much than the PMR 30, it's like they just put it out there to fast or something that they left the final stuff to do to the customer as opposed to doing the final tuning themselves.
