🎷ooooh i love how billy joel pointed at him in the end thinking like 💭 you sonofabeets nailed it! Rich just did a mini concert and billy was just so proud of him.
Seeing this at 10 years old back then made me switch for clarinet to saxophone. I saw that girls liked it. Springsteen, Bowie, Ronstadt, and many others had saxophone on their records.
Still gives me goosebumps how cool Billy is. Perfectly at home behind the keys. Had the privilege to see him with Sir Elton and it was the most memorable rock show I've ever been to and its not even that close. Love his music; a personal favorite is this particular performance. (36 y/o here)
Does the audience actually know this song yet or is this their first time hearing it? I loved that there's no "Oh, I love this song" applause or noise from them when the piano starts. Sometimes I wish I could go back and hear a classic song for the first time.
Brits dont do that shit.....or at least didn't before they got inflicted with 'US audience syndrome' nowadays even brit chat show audiences clap like morons when a celeb mentions how old they are of how long they've managed to keep married for!! Shame really!!!

Another thing about Billy that I admire, besides his unbelievable genius, is that he is a shining example of determination and motivation and confidence. What’s oftentimes more important than a college degree, or even a high school diploma, is simply going all out for whatever interest you have. For him to quit high school to follow his dream of playing music…..not knowing what degree of success lay ahead….gives me goosebumps! Doing what he loves…… what he has a passion for…. is something most people never achieve.
I saw him back in 1978 at a college right after his album 52nd Street came out. Incredible experience. Always wanted to go again. Makes me proud to be a Long Islander.

Lucky enough to have seen him three times in the UK. Looking forward to seeing him in Cardiff in Aug ‘24 with my daughters who have discovered his music as a result of my obsession. Long live Billy Joel 🎉
I remember this like it was yesterday. Taped it on VHS and watched it again and again. The Stranger is a great album. I was lucky enough to see him in London for this tour - theatre role Dury Lane if my memory serves me right. Loved Liberty Devito on drums. Only Ben Folds comes close musically and with his lyrics.
Wow he starts it very high and just when I thought that he’ll struggle he hits it clean, great performer. Old grey whistle test was a legendary show but now is iconic
Tell me Billy Joel doesn't pay any taxes in New York. Just how many of us have never been to New York, yet we see it as Joel describes it, then go see it because of his music? A true story teller.

🩶🖤 One man was given many gifts in this life and he gave them back to us. It’s nearly impossible to pick a favorite Billy gem, but this is probably mine, but I also might equally LOVE the duo, “Baby Grand” with the late, great legend, Mr. Ray Charles. Thank you, Piano Man… We love ya, pal.🩶🖤
Rich Cannata does the Lord's work with that sax.
Thanks! I was looking for the sax player's name.
Yep I was looking for his name too thanks!!!
Yeah he's really good! How come we dont hear more about him when they talk about classic players?
(36 y/o here)
Oh wow....was that Detroit because I was there with those two.....❤ Billy
There's something unique in Billy's understanding and feeling of music.
The most New York feeling song ever
That’s some wickedly hard sax playing at the end. Very impressive.
This guy is an absolute God. What a treasure. Too bad he hasn't written music in 30 years.
Jokes on you now;)
@@RandyNelson-k7s He took my comment to heart, I see!
@@RandyNelson-k7s He took my comment's constructive criticism to heart. You're welcome!
i'm a simple guy. I hear a good sax player, i stop and listen. 🥰
😊
Me to can't beat a bit of sax
1978. 29 year old Billy J. Man those were the days. I'd love to go back and tell young me some things.
This one transports me to New York, even if I've never been there ; Just perfect melody by Billy 😘
NYC is calling me..and ill back someday ik
Well said

Woody Allen and Billy Joel made me realise that I'm a New Yorker who lives exactly on the other side of the world.
Man, that's some horn playing.
Yes. He's blowin!
So horny
That sax is just unbelievable 🥹
It's good sax, but to say it is great is an overstatement. It rambles, in fact, while never proving unpleasant.
He will be a man of history of music, of course still now.
He's da king of music.
@@babeb5588 no lol, kings of music are still Chopin/Beethoven/Mozart, etc but the king of 20th-century music for sure.
comment english is good speak
He will soon be forgotten. He's a fucking hack that stole most of his songs.
Listen to Equinox by Coltrane. I just discovered it, maybe that’s a taste...
Maybe bc this was broadcasted on TV and applauses where just at the end … Just like Musikladen and the other TV appearance.
This was filmed in Germany. They’re all German.
I went to some folk club in the mid-70's to see JD Souther. He played "A New Kid In Town" a couple months before the Eagles released it.
THIS is the New York I grew up in. THIS is the New York people come to see from all over the world, so sad it no longer exists.
I saw his show in Phoenix just a couple of months ago and it was one of the greatest days of my life. Seeing him was on my bucket list. So grateful I got to experience it with my 9 year old daughter. She just loved it and knew so many of the songs! It was just as amazing as I thought it would be. He is one of my favorite musicians of all time and always will be.
I saw that show at the ballpark as well. His live show skills are just as good as 30 years ago.

Doing what he loves…… what he has a passion for…. is something most people never achieve.
thankyou Mr. Joel for your beautiful evocation of NY
I saw him back in 1978 at a college right after his album 52nd Street came out. Incredible experience. Always wanted to go again. Makes me proud to be a Long Islander.
I wish times were still like this; everything is about ego now. It sucks
Never been to New York but listening to this as if I'm walking in the New York of Billy Joel. Amazing music man
I'm gonna pour a glass of bourbon, and sip it slowly....
I'm travelling back again in time.
Thanks a lot sir, for taking me with you on your journey.👏👏👏👏👏
I am glad people have not forgotten about Billy Joel's unbelievable talent.
His music is so refreshing to listen to.
Hello Amanda,
Is nice meeting you here.
How're you doing?
@@billyjoel786 I am fine thank you. Ironic handle 💞
@@AmandaHugandKiss411 Hello Amanda!
@@billyjoel786 yes, what can I do you for?
Are you Billy Joel?
Lucky enough to have seen him three times in the UK. Looking forward to seeing him in Cardiff in Aug ‘24 with my daughters who have discovered his music as a result of my obsession. Long live Billy Joel 🎉
I’m taking my daughters too! And also seen him three times. First time Wembley in the 1980s. Sound track to my life ❤
Another beautiful piece of art by Billy Joel as usual
He lives on Long Island.
I have to have this playing on headphones when just taking a stroll through the city. Billy Joel songs are a must!!
Thanks, I really do appreciate you been my fan and I will love to hear from you
My dream! I hope to listen to this while walking through NY streets. Maybe during the Manhattanhenge. The very thought is so dreamy! 😁
I can never get enough of that sax, thanks for the reupload
Why do I see you every where
one of the best live performances i have ever seen, there is no doubt that the live concerts now will never reach the potential of those concerts at that time
Simply, one of the BEST from my Era. 60's & early 70's. Lots of GREAT musicians from the Dayton Ohio area, too!!🎉
Came here for the Billy Joel, but as a native Daytonian I was shocked to see a shout-out to Dayton in the comments! Somebody knows their music history. Dayton was the home of funk during this era of rock 'n' roll. Thanks for the hometown love!
So few artists today have the ability to not only sing but play an instrument and write gems like this ... The music today lacks soul, feeling and genuine talent
Listening to this song makes me want to go back to NYC.
Mans a bloody music genius! Has been for years. Written so many brilliant songs with such brilliant music. He is up there with the best of all time.
1. The way he handles the cigarette while simultaneously playing the piano - classy and a real historic timepiece. Ain't gonna see that ever again.
2. The 1m30s saxophone accopello. I'm flawed. What a way to end an amazing performance.
I loved when Garth Brooks invited Billy Joel on stage at Central Park.
