I was 16 when my grandma passed. I got a old 1970s record player from her. She used to turn it on and clean house every Sunday. She had Johnny cash, CCR, Eagles and a lot more records. One day after she passed I went to her house and opened up that old record player. I turned it on. I wandered. What was the last song she cleaned to? Before she got sick and passed away ya know? Tiny dancer. On a 45. I was 16 years old crying like a baby. But now it’s almost 4 years later and this song still gets to me. God damn I love Elton John.

My mom gave me and my siblings all a Elton John song and she gave me Tiny Dancer. She would always tell me how much our songs meant and I never fully understood the importance of them until last year, when my mom passed away in July. With her birthday coming up a piece of her will always be left and with these songs it’s always so easy to think of her and the mark she will always have on us❤
In the early 70's everyone in my class loved David Cassidy, The Osmonds, The Jacksons but I was always the odd one out as I loved Elton John. This is probably my favourite of his. I realised I love Piano music whatever genre and its why I'm starting piano lessons tomorrow - I'm 62 years old!😍
This was my grandmother's favourite song to listen to. I would hear it whenever we would visit her. After a long 3 year battle with cancer, she sadly passed away. Her doctor only gave her 3 months. At her memorial, we played this song when we let her balloons go. But today, I was sitting in the car with my dad, and this song came on. We both just sat in silence. I only realised today that certain songs could hold onto some power without anyone knowing. I'll think about this for the rest of my life.
The whole point of the video I think is that the song transcends any person or any emotion. It can be happy or crushingly sad. It can represent freedom or represent imprisonment. This is more interesting than what would have been just another love song music video.
If it wasn’t for this song, I probably wouldn’t exist. My dad pursued my mom for months without any luck. One night, he sat in her room while she put on makeup for a date with another boy. My dad was persistent lol. This song came on, and he asked her to dance. She felt a type of way about him during that dance that she didn’t feel before. The rest is history. Thanks, Elton! 😂
PS that bridge at 6:49 with the Corvette driving over it is gone...it goes over to the Los Angeles River....it's been in countless movie scenes throughout the years... just saying.... it's weird feeling that it's gone.... change

My wonderful Nan, who I thought the absolute world of recently passed away, and this song immediately makes me think of her as soon as I hear it, and I can’t listen without welling up every time. It’s so happy & upbeat yet so painful and heartbreaking all at once, and this video captures that powerful emotion & feeling perfectly. 💜
I'll never forget this song was used in a commercial for a hospital show and the song was used for a micro-preemie, where they had hope the baby would make it. I had given birth to our daughter about 2 weeks prior to this, and I bawled my eyes out as my daughter was a 2 lb/913 grams micro-preemie born at 26 weeks. The song helped renew my strength, as i made daily teips to the hospital to visit her and bring her milk. She will be 22 years old this year.
This was mine and my father's song. He's been gone for almost 5 years and I still cry when I hear this. Such a beautiful song. Miss and love ya, daddy.
Crazy this is almost 50 years old. 11 years older then me, and yet it still holds up to this day as an absolute masterpiece. Seems like there was a period of time where there were artists that just won't ever be replicated. There's just a feel to it that is so timeless.

I agree but its insulting to see stupid music from people like camila cabello (or whoever they are) hitting 38 million views here in RUclips. Seriously, 35 million more people would rather watch that than this? It blows my mind.
Elton is a giant in music history and I'll never forget when I was in NYC in 1969 and heard his "Your Song" for the first time on WABC NY with Cousin Brucie. Now 74 so glad that I have lived so much of my life with the Elton/Bernie Taupin team and some of the greatest songs ever made.

The young woman looking at the urn in her passenger seat really hit home for me. I lost my son last year still a baby. I listened to this song before. But now i always think of my son when i hear it. The world can be cruel to even the most innocent of souls. I don't believe in much. But i know where ever he is. When I listen to this song and think of him. I know he's alright.

I lived in L.A. for nine years, and moved with my family to the Sacramento area last December. This video brings back so many memories, and I see myself back there, the place where I bought my first car, earned my PhD, got married, lost a baby, and watched another one be born. It didn't really hit me until I saw this video just how much I miss it, and how much this big, beautiful, crazy, wonderful city full of freaks and weirdos never made me feel unwelcome. I was born and raised in Missouri, but L.A. will always be my home.
Rocketman is one of the best biopics ever made. Saw it today in the UK and the tears were streaming from the middle to the end. A very raw and real performance from Taron.
My mom sang this song on the American idol game for the PS2 to me all the time. It holds such a special place in my heart. My mom passed away in 2018 and everytime I hear this song I just go back to the place where she was singing so happily in such bliss. I miss her.
I remember the first time I heard this song I was experiencing explosive diarrhea but was also constipated and I was pushing extremely hard but nothing would come out and I was in pain and then the part of the song where he sings hold me closer I kind of relaxed and then my gut shifted and there was a sudden explosion of gas and liquid poo and the feeling was so relieving and really went with the song perfectly I was so elated as I wiped and the song came to a close I will never forget it.
Whenever I need a cathartic cry, I watch this video. Its so heartbreaking and uplifting at the same time. It feels good to sing out loud like no one's listening
The one that gets me is the struggling alcoholic. Right in the feels when she's clutching the sobriety chip. What I don't get is, that's the one story I can't relate to. The only thing I ever had to get over was cigarettes and that's just a bad habit. Maybe the struggle I don't know is why it gets me.
@@bridgettstephens5582 That's the most heart-breaking story in this film. I lose it when it cuts to her sitting at the bus-stop with the look of resignation. Goddam...
I’m going to beat my addiction, and when I do i will come back to this song. Because as I play this song now, I know this is as low as I can go. And when I’m fixed and healed I will complete the cycle.
Good luck. Remember, no one sets out to be an addict. Just sometimes things hurt too bad not to use substances to survive. The shame added to by the criminal status of drugs is something addicts just dont need.
I wasnt even born when this came out 3 yrs later i popped out but it doesnt sound that old at all and it still wipes the floor with anything made since
I feel like this video was made based on people's experience or memories of the song. I thought I would share mine. It was prom night. I got news my grandpa had passed away. My date was driving me home and this song came on. We sat with neither of us talking, but I remember just looking out the window and crying with the streetlights passing by. It was a sad night, but for some reason this song never makes me sad.
I feel for the red-haired lady who had to pawn everything. And now she's resigned to sitting alone in the dark with no place to live. Also, near the end, the lady in her car, crying her eyes out.
When I was younger i hated this guy, now I'm 42 and realize this was the best kind of music, I wish i could go back in time and appreciate it the way i do now.
When it first dropped in the 70s.., what a awesome music era. America had its issues as always but that era was amazing! This song was huge the summer it was on radio. But Dude..., keep Rockin’🤘🤘🏾
@@ddesign63 , it happens to all. Music and artist we don't like in our youth have a different meaning when we are older and we began to appreciate the great artist that they are. As for me, I've always loved Elton John's music, beginning in 1971 or 1972 (I think) when I first heard Crockodile Rock on the radio. I was only 10 or 11 years old and got my money and headed to the record store to buy the 45 rpm vinyl record. Boy... what a beautiful era that was.
Great song, but I absolutely love this video. All these different aspects of life coexisting simultaneously. Joy, pain, love, sadness, grief, desperation......and music brings us all together
That part with the woman at the liquor store was the part I related too. That was me after my father passed. 25 years sober and I wanted a drink so bad. So I just sat in my car and reflected. Never went in the store and still sober. This video in some way relates to all of us. I wish they would do this more with some of " the classics"
Patrick Heckman I don't even know who you are, but I'm so happy you had that kind of self control and I'm very happy you're still sober. My dad was an alcoholic for decades but had been sober for almost 10 years now. Cheers brother. Stay strong
Patrick Heckman Hey man. Hope you’re still sober and the thought of your dad brings a smile to your lips before it brings a tear to your eye. Mine’s been gone for seven years, I still miss him every day. Keep his spirit alive!
This video is such a treasure, focusing on a day in the life of LA California and a variety of different people going through different experiences. Genius and beautiful! Instead of choreography and visuals of the artist singing this focuses on our humanity and yet somehow even amplifies the depth and beauty of this awesome song! What a great video!
It works so well because it hits so close to home. In some way we can all relate to these characters, these stories, these pains, and great moments in our lives... And though our stories might not overlap, we are all passing through it together
I don't know why, but this song always makes me emotional. It's a lot of unrelated memories flowing in my head at the same time. Such a beautiful piece.

I was 7 Year's old when this song came out now I'm 57 (still singing along) and a major shout out to the video and the gal standing in front of the liquor store but she doesn't go in she's back in her car holding on to her sobriety coin and instead of drinking she starts crying, I've been there! Last March I had 26 Year's sober off alcohol so watching her go through it my heart cry's out for her!! And for the best video of all time the award goes to Elton John and The groovy people of LA
So many people with so many unique concerns and issues. I like this video because it reminds me that no matter what I might be going though somebody can relate and I'm not alone.
This song reminds me of a dog named Shakira. Her family's house caught fire.I took her in but couldn't keep her.We tried to find her a forever home,we had to move and running out of time, because Shakira had bitten 4 people was a risk to go to any house, so het owner had to make the very difficult decision to have her euthanized. This song always played on my playlist whenever I was spending time playing with her. This is Shakir's song.I miss her.
The video is obviously anti-Christian and pro anyone non-white/migrant, no surprise given who owns the media and who is behind this video. The fact that people dont even notice this shows how quickly America is collapsing and that their subversive work is almost done.
I took my daughter to see Elton John when she was 7. Floor center seats. Elton stood up from the piano and looked straight into her eyes. Everyone around us saw it, they were cheering for her! She waved and Elton waved back. She is now 22 and that is one of her favorite stories, she asks me to tell her friends and when we are alone I tell her she is my tiny dancer!!
well that's kinda the point of comments weirdo, nobody HAS to ask for someone to feel the need to comment. otherwise the section would be called Answers@@rectime1333
I just listened to this song for the first time, I just wanted to say it’s amazing. It made me feel warm and cozy, and somehow made me feel nostalgia for an era I can’t even place
I cannot remember the last time any Music Video moved me as much as this one does. The song is a musical masterpiece that pairs as well with life in 2017 as it did in 1971. It is truly timeless. Bernie Taupin's lyrics seem to be inspired by the warm, wonderful, marvelously human uniqueness of the people in Los Angeles and this video does a terrific job of paying homage to that. Human spirit is a miraculous thing and it is on full display here. The characters in this video pull me into their lives and I feel a bond with them - the wonderful woman at the pawn shop, the girl with the urn, the addict at the liquor store.....wow, just wow. There are so many stories I would want to know about each of their lives, so many mysteries. (And, oh- if this song is any indication I'd say this Elton John guy is going to be quite a success someday.......)

My mom who passed away in 2020 brought me the vynil with Your song, Rocket man, Tiny Dancer etc. in 1988 after a business trip to Ukraine. I was so thankful for the music she gave to me. When sir Elton came to Sofia in 2010 I bought a ticket for her and she's listened to and seen him ❤️
Really wish more artists would do this; make music videos for their iconic songs. So many great songs from the 60s70s80s have either underwhelming videos of the artists just singing into a camera or no video at all. Both the Rocketman and Tiny Dancer music vids are so so good.

Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you'll marry a music man
Ballerina, you must have seen her dancing in the sand
And now she's in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand

Handing tickets out for God
Turning back she just laughs

Looking on she sings the songs
The words she knows, the tune she hums
But oh how it feels so real
Lying here with no one near
Only you and you can hear me
When I say softly, slowly
Hold me closer tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
You had a busy day today
Hold me closer tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
You had a busy day today
Blue jean baby, L.A. lady, seamstress for the band
Pretty eyed, pirate smile, you'll marry a music man
Ballerina, you must have seen her dancing in the sand
And now she's in me, always with me, tiny dancer in my hand
But oh how it feels so real
Lying here with no one near
Only you and you can hear me
When I say softly, slowly
Hold me closer tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
You had a busy day today
Hold me closer tiny dancer
Count the headlights on the highway
Lay me down in sheets of linen
You had a busy day today

God, what a great video. I can't watch it without tearing up.
The song is legendary…but oh my God. This video is so heartbreaking and happy all at once. What a masterpiece.
yes. Love this song and the video is also amazing.
Try not be sad . What a tune . Stephen Glasgow

This may be the best "real" depiction of living in LA ever put to film.
really? i would love it
Maybe, but there are quite a few blacks living in LA, and they don’t get much screen time here. That said, I absolutely love the video.
@@schultzsw I would say it goes Hispanic, White, Asian, then Black in terms of LA population.

To convey the brilliance of this song in a music video was no easy task but god damn they knocked this out of the park. So many emotions at once.
Something magical about Elton John, this song, California & the people of California😢

I realised I love Piano music whatever genre and its why I'm starting piano lessons tomorrow - I'm 62 years old!😍
And which one lasted the test of time?
Great taste in music
@@qono1458 Elton John for sure

This is more interesting than what would have been just another love song music video.
not black people though. They must hate this song!
Just because we weren't featured doesn't mean we don't appreciate good music, artistry and a great video!!
Yeah, this concept works surprisingly well here. Even gave me a few moments of feels...
I'd have to agree 👍🏻
Except for his use of the term "Jesus Freaks", which is generally used as a derogatory term.
Cool beans ❤
Outstanding story.❤️😎🤙❤️
What a great story! Glad your mom got that "some kinda way" feeling!

I never thought that this song could be an anthem to everyday people in everyday situations, but it works with such poignant sweetness.

The red headed woman gets me every time. Like all she has left of value to show for her life is in that box which she now has to give up😪
The one that gets me is the struggling alcoholic. Right in the feels when she's clutching the sobriety chip. What I don't get is, that's the one story I can't relate to.
