while going through radiation at the hospital for cancer treatment , they always ask what playlist i want to listen to. my go to is always either an elton john playlist or a queen playlist. but i remember on my last radiation appointment i chose elton and i was listening to this song as i finished. i had been feeling so distant because i couldn’t do much cause how sick i was, but this song brought me so much happiness. and in that moment, for some reason i knew that i’d get through it and be alright in the end. and here i am still alive to this day fighting cancer for the 7th time and i will never give up. don’t care if it takes a long long time , i’ll be okay :).
I admire the contrast between Elton's "Rocket Man", and Bowie's "Space Oddity" where one longs to be with his family and the other falls in love with space so much that he leaves his wife, earth, and just gives in to be apart of space till the end of his days. Edit. I just got out of "Rocketman", and man was it incredible. It was indescribable, but in words absolutely beautiful. A big inspiration to me as a musician, and just as a person in general. A big recommendation to anyone interested.
Honestly Space oddity could be a sort of sequel to this song in a way, once Tom/rocket man realizes what is going on he’s realizes how much he loves his family
John R. Rosales Such great songs. This one so sad. It’s famed as a sort of coming out. But the song is basically saying that they may never know. Or at least until then I’ll be out here in space where it’s cold and no one there to love.

My dad passed away 2 weeks ago. We loved music so much; we loved listening to it together. Found a notebook in his closet from when he was young, filled with band pictures and music notes and lyrics. This song was one of them. It was lovely knowing he liked the same songs I like as well. I miss him a lot.
I remember when I was a young boy (around 1975 or whenever) and, one day, my Father came home with this very LP of Elton John and he put it on the turntable...wow... one of the greatest days of my life. This song should be played every April 13th. We lost a good man that day, his name was Rick May. He will rocket jump from Heaven and into our hearts, forever and ever
I think this video is so beautiful. I interpret it to be a man who loves his family so much, he takes a long and dangerous journey across the world to find a safe place for them. The scenes of him in an astronaut suit and entering a rocket are only symbols, when his real journey is the scenes of going under the truck and on the lifeboat. He ends up in London - which appears as a futuristic city to represent a safe and thriving civilization, compared to the one he's trying to escape - and thinks he sees his family in the subway, happy they're safe and together again, but realizes he's not close to finishing his journey, as he still has to go back for his family. The video ends with his yearning to see them again, when they can all be reunited. That's how I understand it, at least. It's very beautiful.
Today I said goodbye to one of my best friends...this was the song that brought us together and now It will be the song that I use to immortalize him forever.

I’ll never forget hearing this song while descending the escalator at Piccadilly Station in London. It was just after breaking up with an ex girlfriend while studying in Spain, and I had traveled to England to mend my heart. Feeling launched into life yet enormously alone, I heard a boy with a guitar singing this song. It was perfect: I’m in London!, feeling like a Rocketman. This song brought me comfort and gave me a deeper sense of where i was. Later, I heard it in an episode of The X-Files, during a divorce scene, and realized someone else understood what I felt. This video, with the perspective of immigrants, adds a new dimension to the song’s lyrics. It was so moving that I burst into tears, 18 years after… again
Definitely a candidate for one of the greatest musicians alive...I've been trying to play stuff of his on guitar, and having a hell of a time of it. Not that the chords are that complex, he just flows between chords on the piano as naturally as breathing.
As a traveling wind technician, always on the road, working long hours, coming home for a few days, then hit the road again and be gone for a month just to provide a better life for my family, this song hits hard and gets me teary eyed
It's the real meaning of the song that gets me. Feeling disconnected from everyone and everything. Beautiful, stunning, and immortal for all of us humans. ❤
my mom passed 5/3/22 unexpectedly at 53. this was her favorite song. I play it every morning now. it was her slideshow song at her memorial I miss her so much.
this was the very 1st song I heard after I got the call that my brother had passed, suddenly. it brings me comfort but usually I break down when I hear it 😔
Same thing happens to me with - Whole Lotta love (Zeppelin), Comfortably Numb (Floyd), First Days of Spring (Noah and the Whale), Like Real People Do (Hozier), Purple Rain (Prince), Under Pressure (Queen and Bowie), Space Oddity (Bowie) and many others utterly visceral songs and blessings
Wow, no comments on the story of this amazing animated short film? I mean, let's talk about that beautiful work.... It gives the song a whole new meaning
I'd be honored if some Elton John fans would give a quick listen to my acoustic piano & vocal performances of LEVON and ROCKET MAN on my YT channel in tribute to the master. Live acoustic with no autotune. Thanks and peace.
This song is often interpreted as a reflection on the loneliness and isolation that can come with a life of constant travel and fame, which are experiences Elton John himself was familiar with. The lyrics describe an astronaut's longing for home and the people he left behind. The phrase "Rocket Man" is a metaphor for someone who is detached from the world and feels like they are "burning out his fuse up here alone." The song conveys a sense of melancholy and the emotional toll of a life that's always on the move. "Rocket Man" has become one of Elton John's most iconic and enduring songs, known for its evocative and introspective lyrics.
Hang in there, i lost ten years of my life to durgs and alcohol. Fight to make a productive enjoyable life for urself. Look at life not with ur physical eyes us the 3rd eye and heart don't not be lazy with ur thoughts, and slow down going thur ur day. Don't move or think at the society pace. We all are spirit that was program by the empire, was program what to think, not how to think. Look at it this way we are spirits in recovery! Recovering from the program to feed our lower spirit meda ase bro Kwaku 🌅🎆🎆♾
Yes years ago I turned the key in my truck and Rocket Man came on the radio; for some reason I sat stunned...the song finished and radio silence.. Challenger had exploded. I cry every time I hear this song.
The video about a man who losts his entire world... I didn't think it would be possible to get emotional by the same song in two different ways, but the art is aways surprising.
I don’t know what was Bernie thinking when he wrote the lyrics to this song, but this new video suits it completely. And it makes me cry, it breaks my heart. Good music never dies. And this song is not just good, is perfect.
I started humming rocket man out of nowhere, I came here and I just want to sob...don’t know why. I hear sadness and there’s this yearning in his voice. I need a tissue!
I grew up listening to only the best genres of the 70s,80s,90s. Im 20 now, with a 2 year old and this music is constantly on in the backround. My favoutite music. I can only hope my son grows up and to enjoys this eras of music and passes it on to his babies. These tunes will never die.
I just wanted to thank Elton for a great song. I’m not sure this song was meant to be sad but it’s a great song we all take it and make it our own and draw strength from it! Thanks Elton!
This song is a metaphor. It isn't about literally being in outer space, it's about being so alone down here on Earth that one could not appreciate the difference.
It makes me think of people who work in remote, often isolated areas. Miners, truck drivers, sailors, and anyone who goes weeks are months without seeing friends or family, and often go unrecognised or even generally disliked despite their sacrifices for humanity.
@@serve_truth I think it is subject to interpretation, which some of the best songs are like that. In this song for example, it could be drug addiction, a job that requires a lot of time away from home, someone is who is living a double life, someone who has relocated and/or gone away to find themselves and don't know when they are returning, etc.
Bohemian Rhapsody probably queens most famous song so it gets a movie rocket man probably Elton John's most famous song hey let's make a movie Cant wait for the David Bowie movie
Lobster the Mobster hahah! So true! Fair play, those guys (Queen, Elton, Bowie etc) have a great story to tell. Its when we have bands like take that or timberlake making films is when we have to worry!
Least we forget with all the accolades to Sir Elton John for this beautiful song, Bernie Taupin needs accreditation for his wonderful lyrics, after all, he was the writer of so many of Elton’s songs.

Rubbish, both Elton and the Beatles will survive the centuries even tho the Beatles were far more successful.
Definitely a candidate for one of the greatest musicians alive...I've been trying to play stuff of his on guitar, and having a hell of a time of it. Not that the chords are that complex, he just flows between chords on the piano as naturally as breathing.

One of Elton's best songs. The chorus is unreal.

As a traveling wind technician, always on the road, working long hours, coming home for a few days, then hit the road again and be gone for a month just to provide a better life for my family, this song hits hard and gets me teary eyed
This video has also given more deep to the lyrics. Originally it was just some cheap political rant, as many things that E. John did.
That’s a hard gig, did it myself for a number of years.
Hang in there for the “timeless flight”

I like how the most replayed part is the beggining, shows how many people just go back there to listen to it again and again.

@@CamTheWarlock I don't care where they are from, gender, race, religion, I appreciate the art. It was fantastic.
A timeless masterpiece.
I always thought it was about drug addiction
@@serve_truth I think it is subject to interpretation, which some of the best songs are like that. In this song for example, it could be drug addiction, a job that requires a lot of time away from home, someone is who is living a double life, someone who has relocated and/or gone away to find themselves and don't know when they are returning, etc.
it actually is a song about being an astronaut any other reference is what we come to on our own. thats the beauty of music.
