Do you know what stood out the most about Billy Joel & that concert? His saxophonist, Richie Cannata, got a Standing O for his solo on "Scenes from an Italian Restaurant". Joel jumped on top of his piano & started clapping along with us. When Cannata finished, Joel told him to continue to play because that, pointing to us, is for you. Billy Joel, one of the greatest singer/songwriters of all time! We are already looking forward to welcoming Billy for the 3rd time in New York for his very last show at MSG on July 25, 2024.
My wife got tickets for my birthday a few years ago to his show at Wrigley Field in Chicago. The show was absolutely fantastic. The whole audience was singing along with every song and the energy was amazing. If you have the option, see him in an old ballpark like Wrigley. He says they're his favorite places to play.
I'm 15, I love Billy and his music. Everytime I try to listen to one of his songs, I end up listening to 3 of his albums. I wish I could have seen him live when he was in his prime.
The first time I saw Billy in the late 70's in St. Louis. I expected a guy, a piano, a cigarette smoking on the piano next to a cocktail glass: An intimate evening with a piano crooner with an almost invisible backing band. Holy Shit could those guys rock! Billy was all over the stage, jumping on and off the piano, Liberty was smashing the drums, Richie Cannota was a sax god! The energy on stage, the complexity of the music, Billy's voice from sweet to growl, in his prime. Amazing. Just amazing.
Yeah, that would have been around when they did the Old Grey Whistle Test recording, I think, and yeah, if you go expecting just "the piano man", you were in for a shock. Joel, Richie, and Liberty were all absolute beasts and in their prime.
Scott R I’m 20, studying music, and have worked my ASS off since I was five to get where I am. The best concerts I have ever seen are the ones like this, where it’s just good, live music and great musicians. There’s nothing wrong with the new way of performing concerts. But I’m my opinion, 90% of the time it’s just a cover for the fact that the artists can’t sing it as well live as the studio recording. There are some very good live singers, like Bruno Mars, Ariana, Gaga, Beyoncé, etc, and even they have to put on a ridiculously overproduced show because apparently just music itself doesn’t cut it anymore. So, Mr “Ok boomer,” maybe try keeping the insults to yourself next time. Thanks.
As musicians, there are moments when performing live where everything lines up perfectly. If you’re lucky enough in this world to experience that, it is a rush of euphonium you can’t describe. You can feel it from Billy and his band at the end. Hands down one of the best live performances I have ever seen in my life. Bravo. 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
I will say the show was...ok. It really is more of a rock ballet than a musical. But in all fairness, most jukebox musicals aren't a lot better. It's nice to hear the songs of your favorite performer on the stage, but the stories are usually a little thin. (Mamma Mia is kind of the gold standard.)
Billy Joel is a hell of a musician, and you may have noticed that his side men are the best at their position. He wouldn’t settle for less. And they all want to reach a little higher to please him. And We are the beneficiaries of all that. Damn I’m always impress.

We went to school together and on her 50th birthday I bought her a bottle of white and a bottle of red and inside the card it said ‘meet you anytime you want at our Italian restaurant’ and we both broke down and cried. To have friendships span generations you feel a song like this.
This is my dad's favorite Billy Joel song...and slowly, over the years, it's becoming my favorite as well. It's got everything good about Mr.Joels songwriting rolled into one. It's sad to think kids in the future may not get to experience this pure bliss of music. May his music never die

Billy Joel is like Led Zeppelin: so many great songs that the favorite is the one currently playing!
🍾🎶Billy unleashed tremendous POWER ~with sax player Mark Rivera ~for this performance. He grew up in Long Island. Rivera ~a band member for 30 years~ has phenomenal chemistry with Billy. Pure genius🎷🎹(2024)
My favorite Billy Joel song when performed live. It is like 1970's teenage opera.
Such a great Man!
jew-gino joel!!!
It is a treasured song. I have a very old friend who loves it too. We went to school together and on her 50th birthday I bought her a bottle of white and a bottle of red and inside the card it said ‘meet you anytime you want at our Italian restaurant’ and we both broke down and cried. To have friendships span generations you feel a song like this.
I saw Joel live years ago when he could do a backflip off a piano. The man still has a lot of energy.
I saw Billy Joel concert in the early 80s, to this day probably best I've ever seen, and I've seen most of the greats!
The greatest song ever written and performed. If you don’t agree you are wrong.
"Cold Beer Hot Lights, My sweet romantic teenage nights"
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
The song is about a restaurant in Syosset, Long Island.....a very Italian restaurant.....Christianos i believe.....
The greatest song ever written and recorded. I still get goosebumps and I’m 53🙄
i second that
It's in my top five all-time ever songs and those top five are in no particular order
Captain Jack is better
This is my dad's favorite Billy Joel song...and slowly, over the years, it's becoming my favorite as well. It's got everything good about Mr.Joels songwriting rolled into one.
It's sad to think kids in the future may not get to experience this pure bliss of music.
May his music never die
So what did we learn from this kids? Billy Joel is one of the best live performers ever.... and that glass of wine really knows how to dance.
Hello 👋how are you doing today?
This is a masterpiece of musicianship He is my hero ❤❤❤❤❤
I just grew up with Billy Joel playing in my dad’s car. First time watching him live. I’m in awe. So much talent and charisma.
Im 68 musician fr
Philippines i like Billy Joel right now im still performing in Thailand playing piano and guitar thanks GOD
Yes Billy! And Mark Rivera on that saxophone 🎷 blown away by the talent more and more everyday
I think that was Richie....
@@bobgunther860 on the studio recording of it I believe it was Richie, but here that’s definitely Mark
I'm 16 and I love Billy Joel and his music. I'm playing this video right now and it's my 8th time in a row playing it back to back just sat at my laptop at 2:30am. Scenes Italian is my favourite song and one of the greatest songs ever written in my opinion. It's sad music will never be like this again. I want to make sure I see Billy live but he just came to the UK so probably won't again for years. If you're reading this, I honestly love anyone who loves Billy Joel so have a great day

5 ottobre 2024 ... Ancora qui a godere di questa inimitabile performance di Piano Man e la sua BAND 🎹👏🎹👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
It's great to see him with his own people, the Long Islanders. This is my favorite performance of this one. Rippin sax, that soprano sax solo was so intricate. Jammin.
I’ve never had the pleasure of seeing Billy Joel perform live, but this song makes me want to see him even more.
He's GREAT! Love how he engaged the audience! You MUST go experience him live 😊
I saw him once , on The Stranger tour in 1978, in Philly. One of the best concerts I ever saw.
I remember as a kid in the early nineties finding The stranger in a thrift store. When I got home and put it on the turntable I knew every single song. I didn't realize who I've been listening to for so many years on the radio
billy looks at Liberty when he forgets the lyrics. 2:10 he says "Yeah I know I saw it" hilarious
I believe he said" I know what I said"
My favorite Billy Joel song
Hi Billy mila hem yes still love your song and your bands that amazing thnk u every one I love everybody 🥰❤❤❤❤🙋🏼♀️👨🎤💐🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Mark Rivera, my fave saxist of all time, man I got to see him in person at MSG in 2017 and he's even more awesome. Joel is so lucky to have him in his band, one of my favourite Billy Joel songs of all time. Cheers all.
He is an amazing storyteller in every single one of his songs.
Long Islanders support and care for other Long Is 🍎landers. 💗🤗
I've traveled all over the world 🌎 and Long Island is the best place to live..we have everything here.
Billy Joel's Opus. Bravo!
This might be the best song ever written
Billy has a lovely voice, honest and powerful like his writing.
From Alberta and took my son to see Billy at Citizens Bank Park in Philly in 2016 and this is his favourite song. You're the best Billy and thanks for the great concert!!
This is a masterpiece in songwriting....his early work is absolutely BRILLIANT...
Good to see a healthy Billy Joe again!
A glass of red wine and listening to genious called ... Billy Joel....🍷🖖❤️
A standard that says it all about life
Billy Joel is such a great performer all live no lip syncing !!!
No lip sync, no auto-tune, no light show, just raw talent.
This is my absolute favorite song in the world! I never stop listening to it. it is a masterpiece!
Saw Billy in concert in 1979 @ MIZZOU & fell in love!
Fabulous LIVE performer!
Magical song writer!
Awesome singer!
Superb pianist!
Thank U, Billy for years of memories & tunes that are forever tied together.
For my money...the greatest version of "Scenes From An Italian Restaurant" in existence
First time I saw Billy Joel live was in Amsterdam, 1978. This has always been my standout song 👌🥳❤️
Otherworldly performance 👍👍👍
Even the glass of wine on the piano is keeping perfect time.
Rock on big bill❤️🔥❤️🔥
Absoluteamente Bellisima 🇮🇹 Molto Bene , Seniore Billy Joel 👍 Salute , Paisano 🇮🇹
I kinda wish Billy Joel would make a sequel to this song... Brenda and Eddie 50 years later
By the power vested in me as a Proud Italian Man 🇮🇹 I hereby bestow upon , Mr. Billy Joel the title of Honorary Italian 🇮🇹
In a world with war, I play the play button to Billy voice, peace arrive
