How Donda Saved Kanye West

  • I titled this video how Donda saved Kanye west, because Donda is more than just an album title, it's a representation of Kanye as a whole, coping with his past, present and future.
Throughout the video I dive into the true meaning of Kanye's tenth studio album, Donda. From the three listening parties to the 27 tracks, we find ourselves taking a journey of spiritual enlightenment in this album.
I strongly believe that Kanye has really found his present day voice with DONDA, being able to create secular music, but not in an over instated way. It’s truly an album that all audiences can listen to and appreciate.

You got me with that title. I was thinking Kanye didn't need the ALBUM to save him in any way. It's clear how much of an impact his mother Donda had on shaping him and how she encouraged his creativity and boldness to speak on what he believes is right even if it's not popular.

@@MASTER.SON. good point. Just like Donda said about kanye, I feel like I came out of the womb aware of my own self and everybody else's too, so it feels so hard to imagine that other people aren't. Of course in society's language, they call it "ADHD" or "autism", or even "bipolar" in Kanye's case. That's all very well and good but at the end of the day people are just people and it feels like those of us who are awake/aware on a certain level are up against so much misunderstanding

It occurred to me while watching this that making the album artwork a black square has pretty much the same effect as Maison Margiela making his models wear masks. It focuses you on the music/clothes, sure, but it has an aesthetic of its own. There’s something dark and slightly creepy about it to me. A lack of artwork is still a kind of artwork that makes you feel something, ultimately.

I think the album Donda is unique, beautiful, intentionally messy with chopped music that reflects the feelings he feel about his mom, connecting with God and his own family. It’s creative, artistic and epic. I’ll always be grateful that I saw him present his art in Chicago. It reminds me why I am his biggest fan and why he’s my inspiration of all time. Because of his 808 & heartbreak album I decided to pursue my life’s purpose. (i.e. to be an engineer and got my degree). So yeah.. thanks Kanye West and God Bless.

As a lifelong Kanye fan, I found myself confused and hurt by the statements he was making and ideas he was representing in the last few years. Donda did exactly what you say it did; it proved to me that a person can always repent. I listened to the album with tears in my eyes the whole time, and I forgave him. I think the album did a fantastic job of communicating all of his thoughts and feelings to his fans who wanted and needed an explanation for why their idol was doing the things he was doing.
Funnily enough it reminded me of the episode of It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia where Mac comes out to his dad through a dance routine. While the routine didn’t reach his dad, it reached Frank. Throughout the episode Frank had been saying that he didn’t get Mac, but after the performance you could see him with tears in his eyes saying “I get it”. I, and other fans, were Frank in that moment.
    Kanye, I Get it.

The personas of Yeezus and MBDTF are amazing, great art. But not that relatable. TLOP is Kanyes first rollercoaster ride into becoming a father and husband, and Donda encapsulates everything about Kanyes life, also musically. I hear every single Kanye album in these songs. For Kanye to be able to fight his demons, find himself and then his way, but also for all of his listeners to be able to relate to some of the things he's going through.
