Somewhere in between the cracks of Watching Movies with the Sound Off and Faces lies the bleak era of Delusional Thomas. The mixtape was released on Halloween of 2013. The contrast between Kids, only three years before is quite drastic, this tape further solidified with the direction of music he was going with.
The distress that subconsciousness can convey is definitely real, Delusional Thomas proves that many of us just avoid it. That’s why mixtapes like this that have a shock factor turn people off, they rather face these ideas head on, rather than avoid it with ignorance. Only Mac knows the feats that this tape helped him get over, but I’m glad that he recorded this short 27 minute tape in his legendary career.

Between Macadelic and Faces, he had SO many side projects cataloged. Delusional Thomas, Larry Lovestein, the birth of Larry Fisherman and the run on sentences tapes, the stolen youth tape, Balloonerism, Live from space, the confirmed Pharrell collab mixtape: Pink Slime. And I’m sure I forgot a bunch, too.
I hate to say it, but dark Mac in the throws of a ravaging addiction, made some of the most unique and impressive bodies of work. Balloonerism and Faces are musical masterpieces in every possible way
And they were all so good. He was an enigma
Please list other projects >.
and now maclib from that same era is releasing!
@@madvillain8372 just saw earlier today, I’m SO pumped!
Really good job on this doc bro.
I personally think as was spoken in the video, it's a way to express himself and his darker side the deepest darkest parts of his mind, the part we're all scared to show. This small 27 minute album really covers everything he was feeling, everything that went through his mind, his dark intentions, evil thoughts, because we all have them and Mac touching on that topic helps you understand him a bit better and can also in a way help you understand faces and Watching movies with the sound off.
Love this keep doing them I need every album I need these they’re amazing!!
One of my favorite mixtapes.
Great video
Delusional Thomas is what solidified mac as one of my favorites
Fantastic video brother!!
i Rember When The EP Dropped After HIs Tv Show Premiere Ended
Mac has a line that's something something skitzaphrenic tendencies. And he has a couple other lines in unrealsed tracks about the voices in his head. I forget what song but the voice tells him not to tell anybody.. either way I have a friend that has skitzophrenia and I'm almost Guernteed so did Mac and there for D Thomas I think is his skitzaphrenic voice
Ayo keep this one off tik tok
Dude was a musical genius, if people can accept slim shady they can accept Delusional Thomas! Fr LongLiveMalcolm and great video bro
Nah Delusional Thomas was cool in small parts like how he used him in WMWTSO, but as a whole project? It just didn’t work. Voice got annoying,
@@jwood8769 that's your opinion, I've been listening to it since 2013 and I still don't mind it whatsoever especially if you pay attention to the bars .. I really wish he made a part 2
@@dabs.47 the bars is crazy, so is the production. I think it was him at his most darkest, this is no lie, I really was scared he was going to die from an over dose at the time of this release. The project is extremely dark
@@jwood8769 I’ve been waiting for Delusional Thomas 2: Shadows with the Lights Off.
Been listening to this tape since 2013 as well and the voice only threw me off the very first time i heard it. This tape is genius regardless of the annoying voice or not
the tape is awesome, i don't know if it'll ever make it to streaming services, it depends on what Macs family wants to do with it. They got faces to streaming services so let's hope delusional thomas also makes it
I dont think the familly ever will release it because of the fucked up things he has said in the album, so morality wise for them it may not be convenient. Although, it is very possible theyre familly maybe holding it for a very special Halloween Night, if anything.
there would be no faces without delusional thomas; many mac fans do not realize this. rest in peace legend
His last two albums hit me harder than anything else. I wish he was still alive to create more music. Great video btw.
Truth
He has 10 unreleased albums
last 2 were pure fire. I mean FIRE.
grandpa use to carry a flask is top 10 mac songs of all time imo
Faces, Swimming, and GO:OD AM left such an impact on me. he was a genius. he’s impossible to define. Mac was in a league of his own
GO:OD AM was my #1 album my freshman year of college. I was bumpin it almost everyday.
this was such a dark album and i loved every minute of it. mac was truly talented in all forms of music, i love all of his alter egos, larry lovestein, delusional thomas, larry fisherman. all worth a listen .
“MY WHOLE LIFE IS A SCIENCE EXPERIMENT” dash killed that shit yo
Bro this tape was fucking gritty. My Grandpa Used to Carry a Flask and Bill are phenomenal. Also the Jesuits. I didn't even watch the vid yet, I just saw the title, clicked the vid and started commenting lmao That's how much I love this project. Shit was tight.
Okay, now let me watch your take on it
Edit: Ayyyyyye, bro! You like Grandpa Used to Carry a Flask too! Nice... Also I never made that connection with Delusional Thomas on Angel Dust. Dope observation, G. Good video, glad to see others like this tape too
Delusional Thomas will never come to streaming, sadly. People will never see what made Mac during a low point for him mentally. "Them white lines be numbin' those dark times"
Although Mac got through the dark times of Delusional Thomas and got past that persona, sadly they were still one in the same by the end of it. Just like Mac will always be Larry Fisherman.
Rest in peace to Malcolm.
I'm line dancing again
its definitely on pandora (;
Dope ass video man, Delusional Thomas is absolutely legendary. Mac truly was once in a lifetime.
It's a good tape for sure, don't think it'll be released on streaming services unless it's under the pseudonym. Mac didn't want to release it as Mac Miller, he wanted to release it as Delusional Thomas.
Firstly I'd like to say the visual and audio edits were very well done! Secondly would like to thank you for diving into one of Mac's hidden personas. As a Huge Mac fan I even learned some new things in this video. Thank you, this video was most dope
Got myself a Standing Ovation
I wish ALL of his music was out on streaming platforms like Spotify!!! Life isn't how it used to be when we could download everything off of Limewire/Frostwire and all those websites!! I miss those days. Do people still download torrents? Man, I'm old... but I remember how free the internet used to be when we didn't use apps.
Ayoooo the limewire days 😂😂 I remember loading my iPod nano with so much music
Delusional thomas was pure genius, when it came out it helped me through so much shit. It made me feel less alone with my fucked up thoughts. I cant explain the feeling that you get once you listen through the whole tape, its just like what was mentioned about feeling like a horror movie or a horror movie protagonist. Rip Mac
Bill is a fantastic fucking song that captures self hatred and depression like lightning in a bottle. It's fucking genius level. Seriously don't think we'll ever see as talented an artist again ever. I'd love to see DT on a mainstream plat but since it's so dark I think alot of ppl wouldn't truly "get it"-it kinda takes a specialness to delve into the lyrics and really appreciate the skill that made this.
Bill Waves killed his verse too, check him out. His song New Wings was produced by mac.
@@cesarin159x thanks man I always liked Bills verse but I haven't checked out his individual shit, will do! 👊
The first video that I saw on your channel, "Who Else was Mac Miller?" I remember when I was watching the video, I was like hopefully he talks about Delusional Thomas. Now, you are making a video about the his alter ego. Delusional Thomas and Faces are the mix tapes (projects) that made me a Mac Miller fan. Delusional Thomas is an escape. Its no filter just raps about his mind going, "Delusional." Yes, I think it would will come to streaming.
This album was amazing! The character he created to release the inner f’d up thoughts we all have hits every vibe of a serial killer horror film. The character was cool, and I love that he was able to bounce back and forth from Mac Miller to Delusional Thomas in other projects. The character allowed him to give himself a feature and say stuff “Mac Miller” couldn’t. Don’t think it will ever make it to steaming though. Just don’t think the average fan would get it. But if you are a Mac fan, you know this is a hidden gem!
Delusional Thomas is probably my favorite piece of art by Mac because it’s so surreal how well he describes so many people emotions in such a shockingly truthful way. I’d give anything for another Delusional Thomas Mixtape
This channel is the best kept secret on RUclips.
Personally one of my favourite projects, it’s like he always had something for his hardcore fans. Thanks for the video!
you used my delusional Thomas type beat for the background music at the end :) That just made my day bro. Loved the video. DT is without a doubt my favorite rap alter ego
Glad you liked it! Keep it up with the amazing beats!!🙌
This is a hidden masterpiece of an album
Thanks for posting this! To think that he released Watching Movies and then produced an entire tape for Vince, goes on tour, comes back creates and releases Delusional Thomas, then 2 months later releases Live From Space, and then a few months later releases Faces. It’s wild to me how much he created in a short period of time.
Not to mention the stuff he posted on SoundCloud
Just found “A toast to you” by Mac I love finding all these different persona’s
Bill is one of my favorite Mac songs of all time. Every verse is my favorite part, each rapper killed it. DT came with those darker introspective lyrics and Earl came with the same energy but just in Earls lyrical way. And let’s not even talk about Bill himself. The story is out there but if you didn’t know, they were all together and Mac and Earl were rapping their verses, which originally was “stupid shit” which is what they said in an interview, then Bill started rapping his verse and it inspired both Earl and Mac to rewrite their verses, which gives us an entirely different and more structured song. Kinda sucks you didn’t give him the mention in the video because that whole verse is absolutely insane.
“Look, fuck these writtens, I don't watch 106 and Park
I skate through the park in my 106's”
Good video overall and I’m just grateful you are giving what could be considered a hidden classic, or at least hidden to the current mainstream audience, out of Macs discography.
Dude just wanted to make a horrorcore tape
Its funny mac realized he didn't have to make music for everyone and by doing that he kind of did he was the most relatable artist ever and anyone would tell you it was like losing someone you personally knew. RIP Mac
i think this tape is best left off streaming services. it wouldn’t be well received by the mainstream and is a better off as a gem to find once you really start to get into mac.
Thats a good take on it, well said
Agree💯
His darkest hour or half hour that is, was a beautiful masterpiece that will always dwell on SoundCloud only. A hidden gem for the true Macheads
VERY TRUE
Is it a hot take to say this is a top 5 Mac project? Because I believe so
Was addicted to K2 around the time of this drop. Really helped me kick the stuff. Had this in my earbuds constantly doing community service workin for the church n shi.
I loved the album even if I didn't love the lyrics. I would love to see more artists do this, I never thought of our complexity in that way when it comes to producing art. It would be so cool if more artists could fully focus on one characteristic of their personality and humanity, express it to their best ability, then jump to the next. Keep makin these videos mahn 😁😁😁
it wasn’t secret if you were a real fan.
delusional thomas is one of my favorite mac projects. probably third but a very close second to wmwtso, faces being number 1 of course
I've always loved this Tape... Grandpa used to carry a flask 🔥👌🏽
Amazing video!
Lost my job now im in new york selling sandals
YES I had heard about this album through a brief fantano mention on one of his reviews. This album deserves to be talked about I hope this garners more attention
more mac please!!!!!!
Itll never come out on streaming services. Its too personal for anyone to even understand. We all have that voice which is know a character we all know and love. Delusional thomas is alot of people tbh and the moment that it was a character to mac it was all over. He adopted the man and couldnt do somethings w out him. I love him whatdoyoukillfaceoutside
love your channel listen to ur vids for hours while making music
Wow ur the goat for this . This album was on repeat 🔁 for me during a time I was so far gone, commiting crimes, on the run, and doing so many drugs - all taking place in the dark city of Detroit. But just like Macs later music I've grown and found my peace and couldn't be happier with my life currently
Can defo get with your theory, love Delusional Thomas - didn't know about his comments on it though, so thank you!
I was born 2 years after mac. I felt that as he evolved so did I. High school life during kids and blue slide park was all about smoking, partying, shoes, hats, and finding ladies. Macadellic came out my senior year when I started experimenting more. I got to see him twice live that year. Fast forward to watching movies and I was experimenting more. It was a whole new mac and a whole new me. I've always had a dark side and have been in hospitals a couple times for suicidal ideation. The fact that someone who went from happy upbeat songs to showing a darker side makes me feel more whole, even if I am on a border most the time. I 100% hope this is never on a streaming site. This is one of those gold masterpieces that should be recommended by someone you know. Something that makes you go, "woah what the fuck." The best part is that even in faces when he "shoulda died already" you're still seeing a different side. That was his genius. He didn't just make a rap album after album, he gave us visualized evolution of his life and career. There is a mac miller song for almost every occasion; this mixtape is proof.
RIP Mac Miller
92 to infinity
Delusional Thomas was in my opinion Mac expressing the devil and demons tormenting his life, spiritually, physically, drugs, sex etc. the Hollywood facade lifestyle. Getting to the top of the game of life and becoming bored. With great power comes great responsibility and at the end of the day it’s up to you and God how you live your life and use your gifts. But this is just coming from the opinion of a random human out of the 7 or 8 billion of us. Peace
I think delusional Thomas is the doppelganger of a doubting Thomas. This music isn't available to stream? I think it will come because delusional Thomas is life and the truth.
I'm 17 seconds in and I'm blind guessing the answer is "see terms and conditions for time restraints"
this the stroke of a genius, go smoke then float with a pheonix, I'm walking round humbly, looking pretty troubling, its all good they don't notice that i'm jesus- mac miller
he's like another version of myself who passed by just to be reminding me its all good
DThomas album dope AF! Fly High!! Long live one of the most underrated in the game!
3:43 I don't get why nobody talks about Bills feature. He goes after Mac and Earl and is the reason the song is called Bill.
Every album has been my favorite at some point in my life since I’m 25 now & started listening to him when I was 13. Faces is still my overall favorite though. The creativity & expression put into that album is incredible to me. I loved the Colors & Shapes animation put out recently.
Loved Bill Waves verse on Delusional Thomas - Bill. Follow him! He's got good music.
Delusional Thomas saved my life, Using substances i never felt so alone anymore
the day I stumbled across delusional thomas, I'm pretty sure that's all I listened to that day. spun it a good 3 or 4 times back to back in awe of the gritty and raw style. definitely one of the most underrated alter egos, great video fam 🖤
Blows my mind people are just now finding out about this. Listen to the song 72. It’s cold asf lol
If y’all really want to delve into this listen to the song Erica’s house by Mac perfectly captures this
Put some respect on bill waves name, completely not even regarding the fact he's on the track
Love the setup of this, nice goin man, and Thomas was just another of the beauties of Mac's mind. Miss u Mr Fisherman
i feel like delusional thomas was an alter ego, that mac just used a different voice for. he uses him in star room and other things when his mind begins to spin.
Circles would have defined a generation. A world without Mac is a world I don’t wanna live in.
It's funny that many people don't know Delusional Thomas
holy shit its been so long since I've listened to delusional Thomas, I was 13 now im about to be 22
I’m so happy some one talked about delusional thomas, such an interesting character
people need to stop analyzing mac for youtube clout, im sorry.
always been interested in macs special ways of dropping ive heard about them but never seen anything, id really like to see it documented in one place for his history
Talk about Larry lovestein! Another Mac alias no one ever talks about
BRO THIS IS SO GOOD
it was released on Nov. 1st but i’ll take it
Its truly something else extraordinary. Its dark but powerful music. I wish there was more of this style of his music or similar styles but i have yet to find some. RIP A legend 💯 🔥
I discovered Madlib & his alter ego Quasimoto when I was 18 (I'm 38 now) and was blown away by 'the Unseen' album. Love Em & his Slim Shady alter ego too offcourse. I have to admit I only started really listening to Mac's music when 'Watching Movies with the Sound Off' came out eventhough I liked tracks like 'Best Day Ever' and even 'Donald Trump'. But I loved every album & mixtape he put out ever since. But when I stumbled on this mixtape I was blown away again, a bit similar like my Quasimoto experience. So much darkness, nihilisme yet truths in there... (I even had to get that one on vinyl just to have some evidence that it really exists). I still miss that man every day eventhough he's about 10 years younger than me. May his soul rest in peace and always be delicious... Great video! Thx!
Where you got that on vinyl? 👀
I love that Thomas never blew up. Kinda love that
You're Canadian, I can tell by the way you say "out"
People dont understand the DT mixtape came out after watching movies. Crazy how he switched the order like that. We had no idea who it was when we heard the star room.
Exactly I thought I was trippin cause every video says it came out before
..but Mac did have (ft. Delusional thomas) on the star room so I think he already knew...wish mac was alive to do more in depth interviews on these subjects smh.
delusional thomas is my favorite project of malcolm’s i am always searching for more from this alter ego such as creature’s of the night or transformations, this tape helped me trough my darkest time in life
Same dude! The only other ones I have as ever able to find were Ride Slow where DT is a feature, and Unhappy from Mac and another DT feature. I want more from this alter ego so much.
I love you for this lets collab about mac

Thorough analysis, thanks for this.
Delusional Thomas was Mac's shadow
This is one of the things I don't get about social determinants of health. I don't see why a radiologist and a doctor work at separate offices but when people are calling for help and your telling them its normal. What's normal? What is care? What does it mean to afford? What does it mean to act? What does it mean not to act? That's what's good about art and branding, it is entirely 100% necessary to be able to deliver a product to the consumer. 🦋
Too many imaging studies still result in inconclusive reports due to poor visualization or nonvisualization of anatomical structures, which can delay diagnosis and treatment, add stress for patients and staff and increase costs. The usual suspects for compromised image quality are well known: acquisition parameter errors, motion, fat and metal artifacts, operator error, and technology limitations.
Yeah what about Larry lovestein
DT was the first tape I ever listened to.
