The Radiant Gardens restoration committee has been working hard to restore all the of KH graphics to 4k.
Since 2005😂
I feel like this will help Birth By Sleep more than KH1 and 2. They were more stylized, with a chosen look. Where as BBS had a ton of low res textures becuase it was originally on a handheld console, and then when it was brought to console it was just given a resolution bump, but never corrected some of the frankly shitty looking textures. This will hopefully correct them there.
That was my main thought when this was announced. I always noticed the low textures on the walls and floors and stuff. Especially when they have designs on them.
I dodn't even think about that. Many things in Birth By Sleep definitely would look a lot better with this
Has anybody checked to see if games besides 1 and 2 were updated?
@@BlakeLyle People on the Steam Discussions were saying they didn't touch Re:CoM or Birth By Sleep at all, but not sure how true it is.
It’s for all of the Non Unreal Engine games. So all of them except for 2.8 and 3… however they claim that Dream Drop did not receive it, but I’ve seen a few comparison videos of people showing clear as day that they were changed. So it’s obviously a miscommunication with whoever is doing the writing for the Steam page.
Personally, I feel like a lot of the textures actually lose their "texture" if that makes sense. Like for example, a lot of the stone textures don't really seem rough or bumpy anymore. But instead, a lot of things seem super smoothed out.
Yeah that's...kinda the point lmao
Sorry just woke up and read that wrong, yeah idk maybe a bug cuz the actual model itself shouldn't be tanpered with I think
I agree, like it loses some character when it loses its smudgy-ness
if nobody told you this was AI you'd say they did a good job. This isnt GTA trilogy level AI, this is good/controlled AI use
I kind of agree. In most of the shots shown, It's a clear improvement. However in a few instances, mostly large concrete structures, some of the more subtle detail is removed by smoothing out the texture and the material loses some of it's...texture. I'm not really sure how it's supposed to be upscaled to retain that because of how blurry it is and how it's unclear exactly what that detail is supposed to look like but yeah. It kind of is what it is. Without the comparison though I doubt anyone will notice.
Hoping the steam releases will encourage more mods to be made or made more quickly. The randomizer is one of my favorites and would love to play the Nobody may cry mod
Probably be easier to test them too.
The Nobody May Cry mod is only being developed for emulators
@@StealthTheFoxz no, probably not
I'm new to PC, I don't know how to add mods to game files is there a tool I can download to make it easier
Project nmc is only for emulator. It's easy to find out how to emulate kh2
the AI textures lose too much detail on certain areas and aren't consistent.
I absolutely see a reason for people to make a mod that reverts the change.
It's good enough
I think whatever AI model they used was way too strong with noise reduction. Just like you pointed out with world images many of the new textures look too smooth and worse now.
They just threw everything into the AI and called it a day. Some of these textures and especially the world map destination images look a lot worse.
I think the fan upscale project mod done for the Epic Games version looked better than this. Hopefully epic games mods can be used for the steam version
But overall better
Some of them look like their gainy texture, which I think added to the look, got smoothed away, but generally it looks good; especially at normal distance it's just going to look sharper. But at least in these close ups sometimes you can REALLY tell it was AI upscaled. I've gotten a pretty good upscaling model that I love to use on images and I'd be curious if it'd fair better, which is why I hope the original textures can be preserved, so that better models can further update them later.
4:13 Dewey's face says it all 😑
This takes 0% effort and a 100% mark up.
Like bruh we are already giving your our money out of pure loyalty...dont treat us like we're stupid...
But still thanks for scrubbing through your textures and running the files through an AI scaling program. ☺️
I think having AI do work like this that can be super tedious is a good thing because it means those resources would only have to check the work which is way shorter than having to do it themselves allowing for faster finishes and gets rid of boring and redundant work and can push people into doing more important things faster. It doesnt look bad so I think its fine
I am that type of guy that zooms in on every texture on any game I played. As soon as I booted the game, without zooming out, my fucking jaw dropped on how sharper everything looked. I love this. Bro aladdin looks so fucking sharp fr
Can't wait for steams texture mods with normal maps and bump maps and stuff man
The floor losing it's texture in mysterious tower bothers me for some reason lol
that top part of the leaves actually ARE upscaled, if you look closely you can tell. what actually happened is that the AI interpreted the original texture as just being blurry or transparent instead of being able to use context to determine it should look the same as the other leaves. one of the many limitations of unedited AI use for things like this
8:11 Would’ve been better if he said he was buying it for the 179th time, iykyk
Yeah, I know what you mean about the "AI look". I use Nvidia's upscaler for RUclips videos and sometimes a program called lossless scaling for higher frame rates. They do add a hazy almost paint like look to things as the AI doesn't really understand edges and sometimes it will smear out fine textures as they look a lot like micro blocking or film grain which it's supposed to clear up.
Still in general I do prefer a sharper image to a raw but dirty image. These upscaling features really are a big deal for the modern 4K era as 4K really brings out the imperfections in textures.
It is interesting that the game files on Steam are identical to Epic Store version (sans some folder name changes), so either they updated the Epic store version (doubtful; it still has the old launcher that's slightly different to steam version), or they decided against shipping the ai slop at the last minute
Its unfortunate that most textures actually seem to have lost a lot of detwil, even though they may be technically higher resolution now. The upscaling just smooths over any fine pixel detail that was there in a lot of the old textures.
The cyclops queen isn't real the cyclops queen can't hurt you
The Cyclops Queen: 2:49
1:42 I should call her
Personally I feel like background details *should* have a level of roughness and blurriness to them. It helps them blend together into "background noise" instead of popping off, drawing your attention from things that actually should have attention.
I mean, just think about normal human eyesight. The thing you're looking at is sharp, but stuff further away or in your peripheral vision kinda fall out of your focus, becoming "Background noise"
The problem is you can clearly tell they gave up a quarter of the way in cuz NO way those Twilight Town crystals weren't touched up by a human
And that's the issue, I could forgive the upscaling, but there's so many horrible results in this, why could they not take some of their free time to at LEAST tweak the most glaring ones? (Sid looks horrible, the text is barely readable in some, the complex architecture is now a smudgy mess, etc.)
Very disappointed, and I will definitely be giving this collection a negative review unless they tweak many of these in patches, cuz PC players are now stuck with these textures right out the gate
Anyone getting major audio crackles in KH1? Its literally unplayable for me right now, the crackling is constant and as loud as everything else
Hopefully now that the steam release is here in like 2 hours. Maybe we'll get a Missing link release date soon 💀
Basically playing kingdom hearts on steam will be like putting on new glasses but only realizing it when you go back to your old pair
Oh boy cant wait for tiulink to make new 4k textures mod with hud elements etc😁
1:59 i never knew that was a menu😮! Can actually read it now.
You just have bad eyes. It was blurry but always readable.
Playing kh2 final mix on steamdeck. I like the new textures. In portable mode, it really feels like the game wasnt made on ps2 at all. I personally like the changes.
I personally are not fussed on the HD remakes mainly because most of the heartless colour changes make them look cheap or something a kid would colour which takes away from the art style if you get what I mean. Plus some of the texture have lost their character which is sad really but not everything is bad some things needed it but others should have been left alone.
Reminder that ths type of AI is not the same as generative AI, which is the one used for malicious goals
Some of the textures lose their rough appearnce, but I honestly don't mind that seeing how crisp many of the changes make other textures.
KH2 in particular always had a very painted look so for me the smoother look works much better.
Soooooo....now that the older Kh games are on steam, now would be a good time for some mods and revamps (looking at Kh 358/2days and recoded👀)
you should do a comparison between the new version and the mod that enhances the graphics.
Sorry, but I dont want 30gb of space taken for textures, that is awful.
1:40 this is a joke right, how does this stuff make 30+gb? i'm creating higher quality textures that take less space. This is just some lazy ai upscaling without any real human looking over it and optimizing it, shame.
Most likely its so big because they didnt compress anything or im wrong idk
Once installed it takes about 71.87gb in total which of I remember right before it was about 63gb so it takes 10ish extra gb the reason the update is so large is because it’s downloading every texture again and then replaces them and removes the old ones.
I'd like to just choose the old textures. You don't see the difference in motions, and these are nothing I would stop for and look at, like I do in Wayfinder. In Wayfinder I have more time in looking at the environment and textures, than playing the actual game.
Is it true? Is Epic Games versions updated too? They doesn't mention it on their own product pages, 'till now.
of the things that ai does wrong i'm fine with ai upscaling cause i don't think it's reasonable to force the artists to redraw every texture for a 20+ year old game which would cause crunch which i some what applaud them for.
I'm pretty sure the lines above Dewey's eyes are the contours just above his brow ridge. Look at the picture of Donald Duck on khwiki for reference: Both of his brows stick out in front of the belt on his hat. I'm just about certain the artist was using these lines to give it some depth for a low polygon model and not to give him eyebrow hair. The AI using such a dark color markedly worsens the design here IMO.
Ai restoration feels lazy to me, I know it takes a lot of time to process then inspect and maybe correct. But AI doesnt know what the design team had in mind all they way back then. And there was nothing wrong with the old graphics overall. Anyways, I just hope the game is fun and performs well.
The bundle for all games seems really juicy rn. I don't care for KH3 as it doesn't have FF characters but seems like it's literally cheaper to buy all 3 collections in a bundle than the first 2 collections separately. I've never played KH games and I'm only interested due to FF ties. Should I get the whole thing?
Kh3 is worth it just for the dlc alone
Short answer: yes.
Long answer: they are great games in their own right, and unlike FF it's one story. Skipping KH3 would be like skipping CD3 on FF7. You'll want to know what happens with the characters.
Logical answer: if you're already getting what you want for cheaper, why would also getting extra stuff on top be a bad thing?
I think it meant to say same graphics but textures improved
Kh2 looks beautiful! I’m so excited to see how great bbs looks. What an underrated game man.
I was playing the game last night and I am on the rupunzel stage and I thought it looked different…especially the wooded area…it looked like a movie kind of
honestly I'm more surprised there's no mod to give kh1 the textures/ models from later games.
I think I prefer the old textures tbh. I think it's nice that they did this, but it looks like some of the textures have lost some detail and the crunchyness of the old textures have some charm to them
They really should fix the mouth animation in non-cinematic cutscenes
looks cooked, merlin’s house is rough
I'd be curious to see which is better, the new upscale textures or a texture mod.
I never played KH, but I'm interested in this game, should I pick this game up?
It's actually so infuriating that the EGS version is just objectively inferior in every way and SE is perfectly fine just letting its loyal consumers remain completely fucked over.
Always online DRM.
Zero Cloud saving.
Inconsistent controller support.
It's been years. Fix it or give us the Steam version free already. I'm starting to despise this company.
I am a little mixed on how I feel about this. Some looks alright or even pretty good. But some just seemed unneeded. Like I’m not too hung up on it since while playing the game I doubt I’ll notice it much. But at the same time I do like that old feel the games have.
time to buy the KH series for the 7th time for the steam achievements and better deck support. (:
Shame that all the bugs from the Epic version made their way into this one.
Its SquareEnix majority of their ports are bad.
Which bugs? The crashing and the cutscenes?
you rather have a cloud version
I don’t mind most of these, but there are some weird changes. I don’t like how the leaves look with the clearer lines (disregarding how some didn’t get upscaled). The rest is fine and I don’t mind them
I'll take it, unrelated but I installed a mod that AI upscales the textures for SA2. The AI actually made sonic adventure 2 look a lot better, something that can never be said for Nintendo's "attempt" of AI upscaling when they lied about upscaling the HUD for Mario 64.
Only areas I noticed that looked "better" is STT and SP for KH2. But AMD GPU users are running a lot better than before.
I hope there's options
anyone else having issues with the esg version after the update?
What are the EGS versions? I'm assuming PS4/PS5?
Square Enix really should give kh switch players a free copy on steam. Since switch players got heavilly screwed over
I don't know how I feel about it yet. Sharpest textures doesn't mean better graphics or style. In the past versions they probably used lower res on some textures not just for optimization, but also to make the eye not focus so much in the background and more on the characters, the special effects and the action. If everything is smooth nothing pops up and the texture of the textures is lost. We'll see how this goes...
I noticed that the graphics look better then on the playstation but thought I just imagine that XD
Bro mascara is used on the eyelashes not the eyebrow 😭😭
Square is doing everything but giving us kh4 news 💀
Sharper =/= better.
Some of these just throw the original feel out of the window. Smooths them out too much.
Are these updated textures only on the steam version or did the console releases also get them?
I think we should be careful with throwing around "AI Upscaling", or at least be more clear what's mean when using the term since there's a lot of drama around anything remotely AI at the moment.
"AI Upscalers" have existed long before the current wave of AI stuff has been prominent, like Waifu2x. They're not AI tools in the neural network/generative type sense, they just use algorithms to upscale stuff. So calling it "AI Upscaled Textures" will make a lot of people who don't know better jump to the conclusion that it's a Stable Diffusion generative type thing. Regardless of how good or bad the quality is, I don't think it's a good idea to contribute to potential misinformation especially around something so incendiary.
For the first few minutes of the video I literally could not see a difference. But some of the differences shown later are incredible. Almost enough to rival the mod community.
I don’t mind the AI upscaled textures being done for a majority of cases (like NPCs, buildings, etc.) but a lot of cases, especially with text, they need to redraw those textures to be properly upscaled; like on 2:00 for the food menu or maybe even the Mailbox for KH1. Because it just looks wrong on so many levels if you pay attention to it for more than 5 seconds. Pretty sure that if they were to use AI in the future, a proper way to use it would be to use it as a first step before going in to redraw the textures; so they can retain the look & feel of the original without the awkwardness of blurry text or smoothed textures for buildings.
Also, just as a personal gripe, I hope they’ll bring in the upgraded textures to the Console versions of the games as well, maybe even a PS5 update to have 0.2 & 3 run 4k60 to match the other games.
Now I have to spring for a $2000 gaming rig so I can download the Steam version of KH2 randomizer. 6_^
So this up scaling is only for the steam version right?
In transverse town i never nodiced the lady and the tramp statue till playing the steam version for some reason
What engine did first two games ran at
Happy they patched it but still waiting to Steam Sale to play it and the Topaz mods to be fully working for Steam. I wish they added more polygon for characters and keyblades. Rather have that than the environment textures. Give the characters actual hands.
I also can't wait for modders to AI Upscale the AI upscale LOL or to go in themselves and make the not updated ones more clean. I seriously want the Witcher 3 and Skyrim Graphic mod experience lol. I don't know why someone hasn't put DDD Traverse Town textures into KH 1 yet they are much higher resolution and detail.
Yikes, a lot of these textures look bad. I hope we end up with options to revert or fix the textures, especially because they didn't actually update all the textures.
they look oddly smooth and u can tell it looks ai
@@littlea420 Some of the textures just don't keep line thickness right or increase contrast or add unnecessary details. Like, those leaves in Wonderland and the crystals at the item shop look really bad. Like, bro, why are they outlining highlights?
While the overall look of textures it's better, some look like when you're using a filter on an emulator. Not Great. But KH it's still KH so imma still buy em for the hundreth time.
ugh square's AI upscales always look like crap. let me play with the lower resolution ones please. i'd rather see low resolution textures than weird liquification, haloing, and other artifacting going on. it's so obvious that they just take the texture folder, plug it in to an AI, and then let it do its thing for the next few days and don't do any manual touch-ups afterwards. this stuff is only just barely better than xBRZ filters from 10 years ago.
if you haven't seen the chrono cross "remaster" then you should give that a look, the backgrounds are all pre-rendered and were all shot through an AI and they look horrendous.
It is Kingdom Hearts 1.5 Remix And 2 HD Remix On Steam?😊
Will the KH3 Multiplayer Mod and other Mods that previously worked with
the EGS version of KH3 and other mods for KH3 from NM work with the Steam
version of KH3 and on Steam Deck as well too ?
How do the new Steam versions fair performance wise, as in FPS etc?
i think id rather play with old textures
i would prefer they put time into creating normal maps
Everything always looks flat
if you already have them on epic store, is it worth the price?
The save point looks really weird...
are you going to do DDD and BBS?
is 30 gb worth 5% crisp?
I just wonder if the crashing has stoped and is more stable
I like the old textures more. New ones are over sharpened and look kind of shitty. Lot's of wonky stuff too where the AI has tried over correcting things that are intentionally designed the way they were.
Idk so many textures feel so smoother and airbrushed out,
Oh edit here ew ai upscale that is why the new textures look so bad
Well I Don't Have Steam Deck Yet But I Need To Get One. OLED 1TB. I Can't Wait To Play On The Go Forever. I Hope Nintendo And Square Enix Will Get Native Ports On Switch 2 Since They Talk About Kingdom Hearts On Switch 2 Native Ports. Goodbye Cloud Lacks Stutter Versions
The graphic update is a slight difference.
I wonder if the console versions will get an update as well
I think the only thing console versions are missing is the JPN voices
@@xXMasterJ360Xx Thanks for the reply. I believe the Playstation versions of the game are running the PS4 versions through backwards compatibility, though I could be mistaken, are they native PS5 versions? I know they support 60fps but how about that AI-upscaling?
@@MulliganSnicker I believe the only native ps5 kh game is the music game currently.
While the only titles that take advantage of ps5 better specs are kh3 and 0.2, but there no native port and no next gen update.
You can maybe force vrr.
How much is the price?
We need a dlc f the graphic update who cares about that it was fun back then.
great day for kh fans
I love AI. I think most of the people that repeatedly play these games for sure would notice how much better and sharper these things are and I play on a big ass 4k screen so its gonna be beautiful
Is It Possible To Stream Kingdom Hearts On Yt??
Why do people want the blur back 😭😂
The mods gone go crazy 😂
