    To me, Final Fantasy is firstly associated with a product of quality and attention, great story, awesome music and superbe visuals.
    The gameplay, the plateform, turn base or a-rpg are only a mean to tell the story and express ideas

    I am absolutely thrilled so far, honestly. I've grown to deeply respect Yoshi-P just in the short time I've played FF14 and frankly with him at the helm I don't see any risk of FF16 not being Absolutely Amazing. I may not be able to play it right away, but I'll most certainly be paying close attention to every speck of info I can get my hands on! Delving into the lore and background of Tactics and 12 has also lent more excitement, because those were excellent stories told. And honestly, Square Enix has done so, SO much to cement their reputation - I really believe the company is just as committed as the development team to giving us fans the very best game they can make, even if that best might not match what we imagine we "know" about what's to come. It's going to be a whole new everything in many ways, and I am very much looking forward to it!!!

    After how he handled ff14 and now ff16, i have deep respect for yoshi p. He is an example of how we wanted game producers to be: honest, transparent, and delivering.
    Imagine, ff16 was already delayed but fans didn't waver. Instead, he was well received and understood because he was honest about it.
    Imho, there's a chance that ff16 story probably won't be the best as fans might still lean towards their favorites like ff7, but i think ff16 will be remembered very well as the game that reshaped square enix's way to approach its players.

      From trailers it seems to be a more adult story so to say. If they take inspiration from tactics i see it having focus on the world's politics and will be quite dark. Depending on how they approach this it might become a really good story

I played a PSP port of ffvii and even the older games still have a refreshing feel and are delightfully fun. I wish I was more of a numbers man when it comes to RPGs but I'm also glad that it isn't a necessity, I was always under the impression that you had to have a real mind for stats and percentage boots to gleen fun from the games but they're just so damn approachable.

  • @sasamosamo
    @sasamosamo Год назад +8

    I love Yoshi-P and Final Fantasy! But I am scared about the Single-player Action-oriented combat for many reasons.
    I understand that the new wave of Gamers enjoy flashy and fast combat, in general. I like looking at it too (and even playing it!). But I ask that people recognize the history of this series combat and gameplay, and show a bit more understanding to those who enjoy Turn-Based combat.
    A few times I've read people responding to comments from similar minded people with statements claiming "the battle system is old and outdated" or "try new things". I ask, have you fully played through a Command-Based experience? Do you understand why people ENJOY turn-based combat?
    An action oriented system, especially ones akin to this, test completely different skills of players. Command-Based systems were about "being a coach" rather than "a player", and required strategic and methodical thinking over reaction-based movements.
    Speaking of, Neurological/Physiological issues, or even those who just have slower reaction times, may make this game less accessible. Turning the difficulty down does not SOLVE the issue, if you reward people for playing at levels others can't play at.
    And to those talking about alternatives we COULD play, I appreciate you bringing attention to said series'! However, it is also important to recognize that Final Fantasy was our DMC of Command-Based JRPG's; a no-compromising AAA Command-Based experience. And in a world where Live, Action-Based experiences are popping up in the AAA scene CONSTANTLY, it's sad to lose a series that helped define an entire genre into this...regardless of how fun the final outcome is.
    I think the real solution would have been to have, instead, made a Command-Based experience which appealed to a more action expecting populace.
    If you comment on this, I ask that you please contribute to a constructive discussion rather than let it devolve into pot-shots at each other. Thanks

    • @dreamer6737
      @dreamer6737 Год назад +5

      Making a AAA game today is WAY more expensive than it used to be. And as a result sales numbers needs to be very high. And I’m sure SE has done their research and found out that turned based games aren’t mainstream enough and will be an issue. The best thing they could do is to also launch a scaled down more classic FF series that could coexist with the numbered one. Like a Final Fantasy Classic-series. And I think Yoshi P also mentioned that he believes they need to make more FF games to meet all the different demands and expectations from fans.

    • @sasamosamo
      @sasamosamo Год назад

      @@dreamer6737 I absolutely agree with your assessment of the industry, and I think this is the most logical argument to suggest why they made this choice.
      My comment was more pointed at those who mock or insult the desires of fans who wished for the brand to stay the course, with ill-informed jabs.
      But regarding the actual logic you've posed, I'd argue that they could have tried to have instead answered the question of how to best marry the two gameplay styles, rather than outright ditching the methodical/strategic gameplay.
      FF7 remake, which I have my issues with plot-wise, was lauded for it's Battle System; a beautiful marriage of real-time action with strategy.
      If you need to completely throw out the systems and/or style that defined a series for 10 games, then why even bother calling your new game the next mainline installment in that series?
      They didn't call the Sonic Adventure games Sonic 4 and 5 because they are such different experiences, despite having many similar carry-overs between them.
      All this to say that I would agree with the inverse to your idea; I would have preferred that FF16 was the first entry into it's own Action Focused subcategory of the Final Fantasy brand (ala Final Fantasy Tactics). Then, to do a soft reboot of the mainline series with the goal being to maintain the strategic D&D elements.

      @@sasamosamo Square Enix actually thought Turn-based itself will die, like RTS.
      That is, before the success of Octopath Traveler, following it are many tactical-base RPG games (Octopath Traveler 2, Diofield Chronicle, Triangle Strategy....), so I wouldn't say the possibility for FF to return to turn-based is non-existent, but highly unlikely in the foreseeable future atleast.
      Square Enix would be careless with many things, but not Final Fantasy, if they don't feel like they can innovate the series/genre (FFVII, FFX....), they will play it safe.
      Mainline FF has always been stand-alone games, so making the mechanic/gameplay different each times is fine, we don't need "reboot" or "spin-off" for each genre, just think of each title as evolving with the history of the gaming industry itself and you'll understand what I mean.

      @@dieptxt2008 Honestly, this is always what i've thought of as well. I don't really have anything to add because you pretty much nailed it on the head. I'll admit, i would be pretty stoked to see a new turn-based FF game. But i've also got plenty of those to go back to. At this point, i've got a pretty open-mind when it comes to FF because of how often it's changed over the years, in both small and large ways. So i'm definitely intrigued by FFXVI and the future of this series.
      In a nutshell, i don't expect perfection, i expect Final Fantasy. And considering how every game has changed the formula, no matter how big or small, can pretty much mean anything at this point and i'm all for it.

    So, like, let me ask a question, and this is [SPECULATION] not a spoiler, but if you want to avoid even that, stop reading.
    Clive is going to be the Dominant of Ifrit, right?
    I mean, like they said it's not been announced, but I felt like that was pretty clearly implied.
    Phoenix, not Ifrit, is the normal fire summon in this world, but Ifrit is somehow there too, and even though Clive isn't supposed to be a Dominant, he'll end up able to summon Ifrit.
    Is anyone else seeing what I'm seeing, or am I reading too much into it?

    • @Makuro_XIII
      @Makuro_XIII Год назад +1

      I think that Phoenix and Ifrit were once the same Eikon (the mysterious Eikon found in the Ambition's painting) that may have been splitted ages ago.
      Clive might be the true Dominant of that fused Eikon (which may be Ifrit in his true form) that has the ability to wield part of other Eikon powers. And I feel like Joshua has to die in order to awaken Ifrit's true form that could potentially save Valisthea.

    I completed the questionnaire, and I was surprised with my own thoughts as the questions were asked.
    While SE have released some information, I'm happy that not much is known about the main hero. Honestly I'll probably stop looking into the game now until it's released as I don't want anything ruined.
    Lastly, FF7 remake shows how a hybrid combat is possible, so I'm hoping FF16 has a similar style, but unsure so far. I think persona 5 and Yakuza like a dragon show that turn based is still very bankable, and I think turn based, is a Hallmark of FF games as it was a staple up to FF13.
    The battle system was never a problem that needed changing, obvious 13 didn't help the situation as it overpromissed and underdilivered with it's auto system.
    With every game SE had the opportunity to get it right, FF7 remake shows it's possible.

    If you ever read this, a little bit of feedback. Why not include a "Not sure" option in the survey?
    TL;DR. Hard to say if I'll actually play XVI "soon", and if this franchise has a single "core idea" I expect to always be respected.
    I mean, buying the game day 1 (or whenever my third world country with a first world country complex has an economy sufficiently... let's say "not dead") likely, but not certain, it depends on a lot of factors (beginning with more urging issues from this side).
    But: "Do you feel as though Final Fantasy XVI represents what you want from a Final Fantasy game?"
    I mean, i picked yes because there's no huge red flag here, but after Cyberpunk and the most recent Pokemons (neither I bought, played Pkmn with a friend, Cyberpunk, well... everybody knows at this point...)...
    The focus on interpersonnal Human drama sounds awesome and closer to what I "feel" is the core of this franchise, yet between entrenched opinions, the changes over the last 30-40 years in videogames, how distinct and separate from each other each FF entry actually is,... to claim "this IS Final Fantasy" begins to sound pedantic, it's necesary don't get me wrong, but Pokemon (again) shows what happens when the focus is on brand identity above quality.

    However in recent years i come to appreciatesome of the aspects of the last few mainline games.
    However, after what I have seen of 16, I am genuinely intrigued and excited for this. And my favourite aspect of FF has and always will be the summons/espers/aeons or whatever name a particular game uses for them. And my god, have they got their asthetics spot on here.

      I'm similar to you. I played a little of 4 back in the day but really came into the series with 6 right after it launched. I loved both 4 and 6 immensely, and while it was a bumpy road for me through the next few titles, (I didn't care as much for 7 or 8) both 9 and 10 were amazing additions to what I loved about the series. And over time, I've come to appreciate 12, despite not being 100% in love with its combat...
      But since both 13 and 15 I'm feeling a bit more cynical and burned by the series. 13 took me 5 years to finally get up the motivation to finish, and 15 is one of only two games in the series I hated playing so much that I couldn't even finish (the other being 2) With that memory still so fresh, if it wasn't for Yoshida being the one to develop this game, I probably wouldn't be giving it any attention at all.... but even then with every director trying to reinvent the wheel with every game and try to do something brand new..... and so many insisting on action based combat.... I'm just not sure the series is for me anymore. They've moved so far away from what I loved about the games as a kid.

      In the Ambition trailer (or in this video: 15:43) we can see Barnabas (Odin's Dominant) walking in a place where the sea has been splitted in half (maybe he is the one who did that, or maybe it was Leviathan's Dominant?).

    its not going to have only similarities to FF12 and Tactics, but also FF14 Havensward, the same wtiter Maehiro said so because he did write Havenwsard and Stormblood story... FF14 seems a bit left apart on this video, when its influence in FF16 is very notorious in style, story, eikons, empires, etc.. Maehiro said that, as Havensward, theres not going to be good or bad, more about different point of views and stories about the same matter, like the fight between Ishgard empire and the dragons

    • @anthonydelfino6171
      @anthonydelfino6171 Год назад

      14, though, didn't originate the idea of eikons and empires. The idea of a militaristic nation/empire trying to conquer the world was there in 2, 4, 6, 9, and 12, and eikons have existed by various names in every title since 3. These are series staples.
      14 may have other influences, but 14 was designed to be a playground of nostalgia, pulling elements from all the other games.

    I keep hearing people wanting the turn-based type game to be the way the next mainline games go but... How? Is it really thought that they would put big budget resource development into a turn-based game where everyone lines up in a row or maybe more like Wild Arms 3 where you're running around in circles? It's not technically impressive. That is not to say that they can't or shouldn't do *something*, they certainly can, but for a mainline you won't see it again. We're never going to see a strategy or tactics games in the mainline series either for the same reason, though those are also incredibly fun games and I hope they continue to release more (like whatever the rumblings about a Tactics re-something are)

    • @Makuro_XIII
      @Makuro_XIII Год назад

      I agree! As every FF has its own creative vision (a fact that I really appreciate in our beloved saga), I don't think that being turn-based was mandatory or a rule for FF. I love both systems (turn-based, realtime), but it is a business after all; so realtime battles made more sense following the trends with big budget project nowadays. It also seems to be very promising so far, so I look forward to play the game and discover their take on the action-RPG formula.
      Maybe the next big budget FF could mix XVI and 7R concepts? (with better aerial combat, swapping MP for ATB gauge segments or having an auto-MP recharge system like Kingdom Hearts, or cooldown only for stronger abilities).
      Or perhaps it would be better if the franchise gets rid of numbered titles/rebrands them (for example : FFXVI -> FF War of the Eikons). This would give Square Enix more freedom to create different types of FF (action, turn-based, ATB, etc) within the different CBUs while keeping their vision and ambition like mainline titles. 🤔

    • @anthonydelfino6171
      @anthonydelfino6171 Год назад +1

      I do think you're right that they won't do it... but I disagree that they couldn't do it.
      The wild success of Persona 5 I think proves that you can still make a AAA turn-based game and still have it be well received and make a lot of money. Square COULD do the same, but they're choosing instead to cede that market to other studios. My guess is because they think that they can't make turn based combat "exciting" or "flashy" and a lot of what Final Fantasy games have come to be about is cinematic experiences over compelling gameplay.

    I am really hoping to see the games official ESRB rating. From the trailers, I don't see the game as needing an M rating. The worst violence I noticed was blood splashing out from an off-screen stab. I hope that the kid being present for it doesn't push the M rating; I doubt it that alone would make for an R rated movie, but ESRB can be temperamental...

    They could easy combine like FFX-2 battle movement system with other they has experience with, plus turn based system into nice 3A game that combat system isynt heavily based on action and it would be nuts to have modern Final Fantasy action battle heavily oriented on turns instead of action and that would be nice difference with other titles like 7R and 16, althoug i enjoy a lot well designed heavily action based combats. Very curious how the shift to action base game, that been experimented on us with XV will lurn out…

    My biggest fear so far has been party AI ruining the combat and combos. I already hated V in Devil May Cry 5 with the annoying pet AI. But from what they have announced it seems like it won't be a problem in XVI. I just hope now that the base difficulty of the game is harder than the usual FF games. People should have to make use of Clive's entire moveset to beat bosses and enemies. For the story I hope it has a lot of morally grey characters or more complex characters. One dimensional "shonen" protagonists or weird nice guys are boring.

    Turn-based games are kinda outdated - best used in lower budget 2nd tier rpgs. Final Fantasy, being the top dog, can not let it self be chained by a 20+ year old systematic formula. It has to push everything to the next level, with every release. FF7R proved this system can be done competently, after improving on XV's system so much. I'm excited to see how XVI has been polished even further from 7R.

    • @anthonydelfino6171

      Look at how successful Persona 5 was. It had all the elements of what made a classic Final Fantasy game: a fun cast of characters, amazing soundtrack, and strong story (weaker than a lot of the ones from Final Fantasy but still solid) AND it was a turn based combat system that was engaging and flashy thanks to the all out attacks and showtime attacks.
      Just because a system is old doesn't mean it can't be used to great effect and still be successful.

  • @DavijoBoy

    Completed the survey.
    As with all Final Fantasys I am excited to play and will be getting it day one....but I'm not as hyped for this one as I was before the likes of XV or VII Remake. I can't pinpoint the reason why exactly. It might be the battle system, what we've seen so far doesn't really excite me after playing the fantastic hybrid system in VII Remake. I feel like XV's battle system was terrible, and VII Remake was incredible....what we've seen so far of XVI just looks "hack'n'slashy" and not as inviting for those of us who prefer a more slow and tactical gameplay in their JRPGs.
    Also what we've seen of the world looks very barren and dead. I really hope there's more varied environments between the cities, we haven't even seen any forests yet!
    The thing that gives me hope for the whole project is the fact that Yoshi P is in charge, and knowing what an amazing job he did in turning around Final Fantasy XIV!
