They must be thorough, which takes much longer than we would like. It isn't because they aren't regular people, it is rather because they committed extraordinary offenses.

Honest question: If a properly vetted search discovers potential evidence of a crime that is outside the scope of the search warrant itself, can that evidence be legally seized and legally used as evidence in a court? I have a very limited understanding of the intricacies of such matters, but I for some reason think such evidence cannot be seized or used. But I guess if Cohen thinks it can be, then he would know better than me (so I guess I just answered my own question -- nevermind...)

The Republican Party has been defunding the IRS every year for the past several decades, whenever they got the chance. You yourself can defraud the IRS of as much money as you want, and never get caught, as long as you're not a black woman from Mississippi (the only people the IRS ever seems to catch for "tax fraud").

I don't know if it jumped out that this was more than vanity, but certainly it makes sense he would have used this impression when looking for big bank loans.
@Faye Ho Sounds like you should work for Trump, if you don't already, although it's an ambiguous defense, amounting to "He lied about the value of the collateral, but the bank was negligent in not verifying the claims with proper appraisals." Perhaps the bank gets in trouble, but does it get Trump off the hook if in effect he was attempting fraud and they essentially let him get away with it through the negligence? In any case, as far as I'm concerned it's a hypothetical based on what I got out of the interview. We'll see how the facts and application of the law shake out.

Undoubtedly, for all his cooperation and testimony, there is an agreement somewhere that states he is free from any future prosecution for crimes related to being the attorney for Trump. That's basic criminal law 101 and in the 20 years I worked for attorneys, I drafted agreements, settlements, etc. that included future protection for the client until I could recite the language in my sleep. Also, after listening to the numerous interviews and podcasts he has done since being released from custody, I've come to believe that he is well within his rights to still be angry about giving his professional life and loyalty to a man who just threw him under the bus, cruelly and underhanded, while the man continued to commit crimes without punishment.

That's why cases like this get referred to the appropriate criminal authorities. It's the normal process.
