Thomas, Alito and Gorsuch should be lifetime in jail. Add to that a ten year sentence for Roberts.

These justices forever be remembered by history as the court who allowed democracy to die. Their great grandchildren will learn how they had the most important job in the country, and they let our country down.
The Dems also share blame. Pelosi should have gaveled in impeachment proceedings right after they certified the election and Garland should have indicted Trump the moment he was confirmed. Treat the insurrection like the emergency it was rather than the political opportunity they thought it was.

I am a lawyer in Australia and have been watching what’s happening in the US since Jan 6 . How D Trump can be a presidential candidate again despite the myriad of legal issues he currently faces is simply beyond me. I am very nervous about where the bastion of western liberal democracy (USA) is currently heading ..
America is not any where close to being western liberal democracy. Liberals are part of the American Citizens and they may even outnumber the Center and center right. But since the vast Majority of them are centered in just a few states political that have little power. Also America is not and never was a Democracy. That like every other form of Goverment was debated and rejected when America was being born. America is a Constitutional Republic. The American Goverment only has Authority that is expressly granted in the body and text of the Constitution. All other authority is reserved to the States. This is why many do not understand America. All guidelines rules laws about who can and can not run for President are also set out in the US Constitution,. Unlike the Federal Judges and SC Justices that are granted Lifetime Appointments in the Constitution When FDR was in his 3rd tern the Constitution was Amended to limit the number of Terms to two.
Until the amendment's ratification, the president had not been subject to term limits, but both George Washington and Thomas Jefferson (the first and third presidents) decided not to serve a third term, establishing the two-term tradition.

The answer depends on the way you phrase the question.
By saying "been recused" you imply that someone else can recuse them. This is not the way that the Supreme Court works. A justice has to recuse himself or herself, which none of the conservative justices will ever do.
Is the judicial branch a separate institution, free from influence by the executive branch? Nope...

They already showed their true colors by accepting the case and waiting untill the last possible day to schedule a hearing. I doubt they are going to actually rule in Trump's favor but they are pushing a narrative that it is a broad question that needs to be narrowed down in the lower courts before they can address it. In other words, delay Trump's trial.

For me, they lost all credibility when 3 of them lied under oath about their position re. Roe v. Wade during their confirmation hearings. Chief Justice Roberts lost his, far as I'm concerned, when he sat in on the Senate's dereliction of Constitutional duty (blocking evidence for Trump's impeachment) without comment, & Justice Thomas apparently never had any.

The Supreme Court is in the process of 'throwing away the law', if POTUS is immune from all preosecution he then becomes 'The Law'. If Trump as president is immune from all prosecution then Biden is immune from all prosecution and can dispose of SCOTUS at will.

They forget Biden under there argument could disband the sc with the powers they are giving him, just do a presidential order firing three or four of them for misconduct and seat his own justices, they are giving Biden that power, and if another part of Congress tries to stop him he could refer to the powers the sc gave him. The sc must be 100% sure trump is going to win as when he definitely loses Biden is going to come after them using this interpretation of the law.

We so badly need people like Professor Tribe and Judge Luttig, along with Professors Vance and McQuade on our Supreme Court.
Back in the day -- circa 1970's -- Tribe was on every Dem's shortlist for SCOTUS. They never got the chance, though but it might not have been that big of a loss: He was the Harvard debate coach at the time and he once sat in on our debate during a tournament, before we met his team in the next round. He spent at least a half-hour prepping them for us but they were still pretty awful, including the analysis he fed them. So I've never been very impressed by him. Still not. He was correct here, though.

I giv up on the system and just asume they are all corupt...after watching the pianist last night i thought its time to start looking for anplace to run to if this all turns out like the movie....at this point im starting to worry. This is not like the america we use to know.

When I went to law school, I held the Supreme Court in the highest regard. Now I am embarrassed as an American citizen and attorney by this political and corrupt showing by our last form of checks and balance for our governmental system. And they have a life tenure!!!! Its insane to ask a question---whether a president has immunity from criminal prosecution----which has never been asked in more than two centuries. The very notiion that a citizen----our chief citizen---would be beyond the reach of the laws applicable to every other citizen is contrary to the very notion of "equal justiice under law." I think Judge Chutken should tell the parties that the clock is running this delay is giving both side plenty of time to prepare, including for any impact that the SCOTUS decision will have on the proceedings. In other words, when SCOTUS makes up their mind, we're off and running.
Some of those justices are engaged in the ongoing insurrection. Don't forget.
They're doing it in this hearing, which they intentionally delayed in an obvious effort to violate the law. They really should have been arrested immediately upon announcing the unnecessary delay.
