  • MSNBC’s Lawrence O’Donnell shares his own crisis of faith in the Supreme Court that he revered before the Roberts Court corrupted legal scholarship to the point where he believes the Republican justices are “just making it up” and, as Justice Elena Kagan expressed in her dissent, are violating the Constitution.

In all fairness it is not up to the court to independently check the facts presented to it. This should’ve been done by the lawyers opposing this decision. It is a gross failure on their part that they didn’t bother to check the facts being put forth by the opposition. I would think that is a basic responsibility of any lawyer. As for those that presented the bogus facts there should be consequences; although let’s face it, there rarely are.

On my first day in Constitutional Law as a second year law student, my professor, a judge, asked the class, “What is the Constitution?” There were so many excellent answers, but each was met with a “No.” After so many good answers, the class sat baffled. Our professor finally said, “The constitution is whatever 5 out of the 9 justices say it is.” Um what? During that year, he also kept drilling us to pay attention to who made up the court at the time a decision was made. That would usually predict the outcome. And here we are with a 6-3 Court that was Frankensteined together by the Federalist Society just doing their thing.

The average citizen is dumbed down to the point where they despise anyone who is smarter than them. They mistake differences of opinion for betrayals of bed rock principles. First, the court needs rules - If a justice perjures themselves or does anything to compromise their judgement on cases that come before them they need to recuse themselves or resign. It makes me wonder if they had any intent to undermine the rule of law, if only because so many people had to either lie or be completely oblivious to the fact that the case was a fantasy. I feel like I either must be misunderstanding something or this corruption really does run crazy deep. And, if it was corruption, why include the name and number of someone in the case that could so easily deny his involvement? I really don't get it. Some part of this isn't adding up.

Let us not forget that Neil Gorsuch's Mom is Anne Gorsuch. She was a Colorado state representative, and was part of a caucus known as the "House Crazies", because they wanted to fundamentally change government (into a far right-wing authoritarian regime). She was later the EPA administrator under Reagan, in the early 1980's, and she personally slashed that agency's budget by 22%. She also fired career employees (on her own whimsy) and hired industry puppets to cover those positions. And her legacy? Well, she became the FIRST cabinet member to ever be held in CONTEMPT of CONGRESS for illegal actions that benefited the owners of a $1.6 BILLION dollar Superfund site. Neil has an axe to grind ... and he's grinding it down to the handle ... taking it out on the citizens of the united States of America. Neil Gorsuch is not qualified to be a Supreme Court Justice. He was hand-picked by Mitch McConnell and the Federalist Society (who really aren't very 'federalist', at all) to lay waste to the U.S. justice system. He's the quintessential bull in the china shop. I'll never forget the prof redefining liberal and conservative as they were in regard to legal opinions, and in studying them it became obvious the intellectual prowess of that debate. The problem with most voters... and another accomplishment of the Republican Party.... is education; to keep the public illiterate and uninformed. 20 years ago the average American read at a 9th grade level and today the average American reads the 5th grade level. A 5th grader is not going to be able to dissect a Supreme Court decision... and therein... is why I drink.

The Supreme Court has been a disappointment, failing to uphold justice and protect the rights of all citizens. Its decisions have often been biased and influenced by political agendas, undermining the very principles it is meant to uphold. The Court's conservative majority has consistently rolled back essential protections, allowing corporate interests to prevail over the needs of the people. It has ignored the cries for equality, perpetuating systemic injustices. The Court's lack of accountability and transparency erodes public trust in the judiciary, leaving many disillusioned and feeling powerless in the face of injustice. Its decisions have far-reaching and detrimental consequences for the future of our democracy.

I too have lost faith in the Supreme Court. Worse, I see our Constitution being set aside and trampled.
I've loved the country I grew up in, but now I see Americans and politicians willing to end the balance of power, and have our courts, as well as our voting process so change, that it now bows to a single party. An extreme portion of that party now clamors for an end to democracy.
I no longer live in the United States of my youth.

Same here, Maxine. It gives me great sorrow to see how this country has become especially in the last several years. My family escaped from Cuba when I was 5 years old and I'm 67 now. We left because of Communism. We left for democracy. This Court has fallen into the same hands as the Republican party. And, I'm scared to death.

EVERYONE who worked for his WH administration has said he's a literal danger to our national security and is not fit to hold any office. The only former official who has stuck by his side is Mike Flynn and I'm sure it has nothing to do with receiving a pardon.

Lawrence: SO SO SO important you gave this a voice. Of all the years I've been watching your MSNBC snippets on YT, you have always had integrity and presented specific topics every American should be aware of. This tops them all sir. Giving a voice to exactly what some other journalists shy away from just strengthens your integrity in my book.
