This is one of the best rundowns of this crisis I've seen. One thing he didn't mention directly: Not only are they not-elected, they're "self-regulated." I think the framers of the government did a great job, but this might be the oversight that ends democracy in America. There's literally no legal way to stop these people, and at least 4 of them are blatently corrupt.
The framers legitimized slavery and you call that a great job? Imagine the heights USA could have reached without a rotten foundation.
I have an idea.
All justices serve 15 year terms and require reappointment by the president (though not confirmation by Congress for reappointments), though they may serve an unlimited number of terms and may be appointed if they were not renewed.
The Supreme Court shall have a maximum number of justices equal to seats in the Senate. Presidents may expand the size of the existing court by 1 seat across all terms. Presidents may replace all existing vacancies as needed.
The Supreme Court shall vote to take up cases and choose, at random, 9 justices to preside over cases. Each decision shall be allowed 1 appeal by the plaintiff, to be voted upon by the entire Court.
The house and senate and the court need term limits

The reason there isn't term limits is so that there is consistency in the Court which is generally a great thing. For this current Court to be consistently political biased on the other hand is not a good thing. Thankfully there is a solution and it is mentioned in my comment above!
If SCOTUS wants to step into law making, they must be subject to elections. They can't have it both ways. I'll settle for elections and vote them out.

there is no such thing as being "just about the law". The supreme court was the least intrusive and held in highest regard when it was overwhelmingly liberal in the later 20th century, the problems we're having now is because of the federalist society introducing ideologically conservative justices who don't even give the pretense of caring about the constitution and will exploit everything they can to push an agenda.

One of the Congress has shared that he is working on Legislation to not have supreme court justices for life but limit time on the courts. There has been talk about extending the Supreme Court.
Being an originalist, as many of these justices identify as, does not mean anything to me. How are they to know how the framers interpreted the Constitution over 200 years ago? The interpretation of the Constitution was meant to be flexible and to change with the times as it needed. Also, this proves that Republicans are no longer in favor of small government.

Having watched the deterioration of our political system over the past 30 years, witnessing the judicial hearing when then an unqualified, totally inexperienced & incompetent Clarence Thomas was nominated by George Bush, Sr. to the Supreme Court to replace retiring Thurgood Marshall, that towering leader who was the lead attorney for the NAACP that argued against racially segregated schools (Brown v. Board of Ed.). I knew at the time that Thomas would be the antithesis of Marshall, arguing to limit voting rights & in support of voter suppression, weakening the EPA's ability to enforce the Clean Water Act & Clean Air Act, completely distorting the 2nd Amdt, ruling against collective bargaining. The most recent ruling, the "right to carry concealed weapons," in favor of bump stocks to make semi-auto firing guns into auto firings guns. We had over 300 mass shootings this year alone. You may have read about the 2 year old toddler who shoot & killed his pregnant mother with his father's loaded weapon. These 5 extremists justices are NOT conservatives. They are radicals who decide cases not to achieve the public interest but to accommodate powerful special interests. How did these 5 extremists get onto the Court for life? With the help of Leonard Leo & his billionaire friends, including corrupt politicians like Mitch McConnell & Donald Trump. But Biden & the Democrats could be doing more to at least fight back by expanding the size of the Court & pushing for a Constitutional Amdt to limit their terms. Sickening!

What the SC said in Roe was that the Constitution protected the right to privacy (which it does) and that included a woman's right to her bodily autonomy. That wasn't making law, it was a clarification of the right under the Constitution. The people who negotiated the Constitution had the intention that the document would be flexible enough to bend and grow with the country and changes in cultural needs. They made it amendable. It was in no way meant to be restrictive in the letter of what was written. Any SC justice who thinks that is just wrong and had never learned how those men thought. They were certainly men of their time but also quite forward looking too. Today we see one political party that prefers to re-write history and has no respect for the Constitution or the Rule of Law other than to manipulate and twist its words for their anti-civil rights, authoritarian purposes.

Every single ruling made by this current corrupt court needs to be reviewed--apparently clear back to when Thomas first joined the court and began to accept bribes routinely.
We need to hire a investigator and prosecutor...again. Time for new laws and the destruction of the EC, gerrymandering, Citizens United, and a host of other very corrupt maneuvers used by the party of sedition. And we need strong laws and oversight for campaign finance reform and lobbyists corporations.

big problem with that premise of how "judges shouldnt legislate from the bench" Qualified Immunity. Purely a court doctrine that makes it very hard, ignoring constitutional and statutory laws, to sue police for wrongdoing (well, any government official) But sure, judges shouldnt legislate.

Corruption has always been a problem with the Supreme Court . since they decide who is the president and in the Bush vs Gore case. Anyway, we need a time limit for all judges . they think they’re above the law.
We need to fire them and start over with new rules and oversight of them. And NEVER give anyone a lifetime appointment. Let them earn it.

Judges should not be allowed to accept gifts because it does affect what they decide when overseeing a case with the person who gave that gift. No one should be allowed to bribe judges.
To all the public, these "failure to disclose" situations look like bribes. This completely undermines the rule of law.
