    This is the best tutorial of SRS I have ever seen. Those install and conf vids are what they are.
    This shows how to use. For me it is still mysterious what means msin channel, guard channels and which channels I should use.
    The server documentation differs alot.

    As always brotha, great video......from new DCS user(less than 1yr. Exp)!
    To answer your? About multiplayer, there are probably a number of factors why some dont join those games!
    Some of these things maybe, but are not limited to the following as I've experienced.
    -Difficulty in setting up things within DCS...
    -Not sure who how to do some things, communicate, landing, takeoff, aa, ag, using radar or other necessary functions in cockpit!
    -May not be able to land, cold, start or take off from hot, etc....
    -May not be sure how to use radar, and or weapons!
    -Some may not want to be humiliated or have to go through a long startup if shot down, in seconds!!
    -Others may just think there not good enough and dont want to offend or compete, necessarily against others.
    -I think alot of newbs spend alot of time on there own just trying to learn those things above I mentioned.
    _______
    Hope some of this helps from new user! I enjoy the detail of your videos, I do alot of mission editing- hours every day, and I have watched probably all your mission editor videos as well!! Thx again. Mongoose-

    Great video. Very helpful. Why I don't play Multi player? I can fly, take-off, land, navigate etc. But I don't have loads of time to fly, and I tend to be pretty unknowledgeable when it comes to a lot of the systems. I am not worried about going in and getting shot down, but more that my presence would annoy people who would feel like the immersion factor is broken if I do something (or don't). I need to find someone that I can just go practice basic 1v1 stuff, or some duo missions.

    • @TorniQuetHD
      @TorniQuetHD  2 года назад +8

      Totally understand that mate, but in terms of being annoying I don’t think you will come into contact with that much mate, most people in the community are really generous and helpful as long as you tell people that you’re new and don’t do things that you have no idea what you’re doing… ie telling a friendly A-10 that you will fly CAP and protect them from enemy fighters when you actually have no idea how to do that job and then they get shot down because they thought they were safe.
      If you know how to do a specific role with your aircraft you can definitely just carry out that role… if you know how to use mavericks then just do maverick strikes on targets and nothing else kinda thing if that makes sense.
      It is a shame to hear that so many people are hesitant in getting into multiplayer as that is where the best immersion comes from, working as a team to achieve goals together.

      I’d definitely recommend joining Torni’s and Virgin Australia’s discord groups. People they are SUPER friendly and more than happy to help out new players. Been in for about 3 weeks and not had a bad experience yet. Had a guy design me a livery for free after knowing him for literally 2 minutes, offered to pay him and he said don’t worry about it. Had others ask if I needed help learning & before I could even say yes, they were loading in to the same plane to walk me through it.

    Hey Torni, thanks for this really informative video.
    In my now two years DCS career. I go MP since about one year and I can say, it's real fun. But the thing for me is, that I am not native english speaking and so I rarely use SRS. Most time I play with people speaking my own language or just do my own thing on the server with a minimum of radio calls (taxi,takeoff,landing). Yes of course I do understand englisch and I can say what I need to but in stressfull situations this is really getting worse for me and I have to use so much brainspace for understanding what people want from me that I even forget how to proper fly my aircraft 😅 Then I think that people could get pissed and that scares me a bit. I'm not so self confident no matter if IRL or online 🤷‍♂️

    • @TorniQuetHD
      @TorniQuetHD  2 года назад +5

      Yeah the language barrier would definitely be a big hurdle… big respect to you for even coming into an English speaking server and trying to understand and communicate with everyone mate!! No way I could go into a server that spoke another language and try to communicate with them so hats off to you for sure mate!
      The basics is all you really need to say to be honest, let people know where you’re going if you will be in a high traffic area and let people know what your intentions are if you’re operating in the same area as others also and you will be golden. Sometimes the less said on comms is better

Reason I have not been on a multiplayer is I want to make sure I do the research on the ethics of MP servers (don't mind being a noob, just don't want to be a party pooper...) Almost there and may even try to connect today! Liked and subscribed mate!

    My group always found that SRS would crash too much and was always a major pain to set up each game. When the built in comms came out it’s made it generally easier (although it wasn’t easy to set up). Problem now is that no one else uses it. Go into any MP server and listen in to the built in comms: silence………

    • @TorniQuetHD
      @TorniQuetHD  2 года назад +2

      It is a bit tricky to setup server side but most of the popular multiplayer servers generally don’t have too many issues with SRS crashing out these days *touch wood* I’ve not even tried to use built in voice comms as everyone uses either discord or SRS

    I think I can speak for a lot of people when I say that I love playing Multiplayer, just not PvP. Many players I talk to seem to seek the Co-Op fun factor of trying and beating the enemy AI, and not exactly the challenge of fighting other players. So whenever we just want to enjoy a more relaxed gameplay or simply practice our skills without bothering other people or risking accidents, we just stick to Singleplayer.

    Good video on SRS. Have been flying DCS since it's first module came out and now have many aircraft and maps. Ended up building a really nice rig specifically for DCS (which became awesome for ARMA, Elite, Star Citizen etc) which has all the options for modern gaming other than VR. TM Warthog, Tobieye 5, Track IR (if I want), pedals, cougar mfd's, two 8" tablets for use in gameglass or ufc, multi monitors etc etc. Configuring the set up is like an unending hobby and never seem to have it complete enough to go online and have enough hrs in a particular aircraft to fly with people who have so many more hours in. I have the hours in but most of them are configuration testing not really enjoying and learning a particular plane. I went online lots at the start and it was fun but my setup either for the plane or rig was never complete. It seems like my setup was a little ahead of it's time and things in DCS have caught up so I'm able to nail things down. e.g multiscreen or tablet set up used to be a complete chore but now they've made it easier. Now that I can finish what I envisioned it's time to nail down my favorite aircraft and actually get good and then join some multiplayer action. Also not a fan of running several extra programs in the background so I'm hoping this updated "in game radio system" works like a charm.

    Thanks for the video bud. Awesomely informative. As for your question regarding not trying multiplayer - for me there's a simple reason... I am an absolute noob. Just started playing DCS and I cannot even cold start my aircraft. So until I get the hang of all the terminologies etc. I will not ruin the game or anyone else. It is quite lonely but I hope to join other serious guys some day. I last played Flight sims back in the day when Jane's USAF was out. Loved it. Since then I have been an avid Sim Racers but Flying is where my heart is at.

    Very informative video, I appreciate your hard work and sharing your time helping others. I have not played Multi-player and the main reason is - ??? maybe I am not very good, I am not sure about getting my feet wet, not sure about what time I should/can play (I'm retired), and I have had some bad experiences playing on line with my console with a bunch of jack wads who are pretty childish but have big egos. I hate that, I just want to have fun and relax with a bit of a challenge with no B.S. I am edging towards the MP Universe, so this little bit helps - - :)

      There is definitely a minority of players who think they are “actual” pilots and carry on like a child throwing a tantrum when something doesn’t go their way but for the most part the online community is very understandable and generous with their time to help new players find their feet in multiplayer.
      In terms of finding a server, just sort the list by populated first and then find one with a ping of 250 or less and jump on in and say hello. Ideally finding one with SRS is better as you can then talk to people and tell them it’s your first day kinda thing and they can help you out and point you in the right direction to find info on how the server mission works and where to fly and what to do etc.

    • @josefwitt9772
      @josefwitt9772 2 года назад

      Like TQHD said, joining populated servers and hopping on comms is a good way to start. The DCS community as a whole is the best I've ever seen in gaming. If you want, you'll be able to find a group in the right time zone with the right attitude.

    Late add. Just found your channel, which is great btw. Came for a refueling tutorial, stayed for liberation and now Greyflag. Didn’t know those even existed. I would offer my reasons for not joining MP are similar to others: fear and confidence. The farther down the learning curve you are, the steeper the climb. Getting my hands around all this has been a challenge, but one I’m enjoying.
    But, I’m here watching your SRS vid so I can cure something that is wearing on me in DCS tho, isolation. I’m going to hop on Greyflag, take off in the one airframe I know and just fly around and listen and check it out.
    Now I just need to find a video that explains what Discord is and what it does…. My kids are off to college or I’d ask them. Keep the content coming, you’re killing it from where I sit.

      @@TorniQuetHD on my first flight in Grayflag I had someone pull up in formation in hornet like me, coached me through how to switch to a mids channel and set it up as a 3rd radio so we could still listen to AWACS calls and chat privately off TACCOM. I confessed I was brand new and he spent a couple hours on my wing coaching me. Tonight there was a human controller so that was pretty intimidating and added a whole new level of complexity and stress (good stress). For those reading this, give it a shot I can say it’s been worth the risk. There’s a lot to learn, but if you’ve already figured out how to start a jet, load it up with stuff and fly it…the folks in the hercs, warthogs, harriers and helos appreciate having someone (even the noobs like me) flying top cover so they can do their thing. If you see Grumpy 1-1 on GF, check in with me and we’ll work it out together.

    I have been playing DCS since Lock on. I just haven’t got into MP. I find enough in single player to keep me busy. I will have to give it a go I just don’t know anyone to fly with. The only thing I play on line is a bit of sim racing that can be toxic as fuck & Hell let loose with my young bloke & a bunch of blokes on a Friday night. & it’s a time thing I haven’t been playing a lot of DCS for the last 12months or so I just got sick of having to rebind all of my controls after every update it had been an issue for some time & every time you would mention it in the forum you would just get hammered by toxic fuckwits accusing you of making it up. That issue seems to be fixed now though. So I guess the toxic nature of of the forum has put me off MP. Excellent video. The bloody adds are getting out of control. Kind of makes it hard to follow. To be honest I’ve never even tried the in built VOIP feature as all of the multiplayer servers use SRS so that’s why I guess. If you’re flying with a buddy you’re probably going to be using discord to chat mainly and have SRS going to be able to talk with other players in the server

      More realism I guess. You can press the radio button and it's got frequency and stuff, more like the real thing perhaps. Also maybe it's custom server so more stability based on region I guess. Like if u play in aus u want aus server comes and not the one from usa coz high latency but I don't know is just my guess.

      I don't think there's full feature parity between SRS and builtin comms. Hooking into LotATC is a big one. I'm sure DCS comms will improve over time, it's nice that they've gotten the basics in at least.

      @@josefwitt9772 Good point, and there are popular servers like Enigma's Cold War server that uses Overlord Bot, which doesn't work with built in VOIP. And I'm pretty sure, if using Mids A/B in the Hornet for secure comms, it also doesn't work in VOIP. The VOIP just doesn't match the same features as in SRS. Maybe someday, but for now not enough for people to be using it often.

    “Sound like a pilot?”
    Seriously?????
    Here is the ugly truth…
    If you are not pilot, you are not gonna become one by downloading SRS. And if you are an actual pilot casually playing DCS you don’t get anything by downloading it.
    DCS has an in-house VoIP.
    It is slightly inferior, to the extend that it doesn’t distort sound to imitate real life chatter… but it works just fine.
    However by installing and setting SRS , you are DISABLING the in-house VoIP.
    So…are you guys very excited to mod your game with a third party, unofficial freeware THAT WILL EXCLUDE YOU FROM THE OFFICIAL VOIP…only to get a:
    “……..hhhhhhhssssss…Fox twohhhhhhsssssssssssdd……….”
    Lmao!
