If anyone is stuck on the MERGE step at the beginning, its just M, not Alt + M
thank you very much
thnxx
Thank you.
@Tony Maden just click right button on the vertices and choose Merg then
tnx it's really helped me
when people get stuck and someone solves it in comments, the 'thankyous' that pour in are the purest, from the bottom of the heart of a beginner 3d artist, such a beautiful thing, this community is so nice
Sir i am unable to join tow vertices in blender please help me sir, and tell me that how i can join this
@@nothingishere70 press m. It's no longer alt+m
Thank you
you could also select the two and press F for fill @@nothingishere70
"But yours is going to look lovely." That part gave me a huge smile.
I've probably watched a dozen different tutorials on this subject so far, and yours has, by far, been the clearest, most helpful and most educational of all of them. Everything you do, the cadence, the level of information and how it's presented, the right amount of repetition... you should teach teaching.
Very hard to follow not easy
Cool tip: don't use alt+m to merge anymore, that will split it. the new keybind is just M
what's the diff between merge and fill
I am a complete beginner and I went way overboard with the design of the shape I was working with. It's a testament to your knowledge that everything worked out how I wanted it regardless.
Goddamn it you are a good teacher you managed to extract at least a dozen lessons from one goddamn logo. It shows that you think this out really really thoroughly. Not everyone can do that. Not even ian hubert or blender guru or captain desillusion.
Thanks :)
@@grabbitt Ian Hubert would have made this a 45 second speed run where he does something super janky that turns out to work super well.
@@starchamber7700 his stuff works really well imo when you are already very familiar with how blender works and he's just showing you a cool trick without having to show all the details step by step
Where was this a week ago when I was making a logo for school :D Lots of helpful tips though. Thanks for sharing this.
Thanks for this being here now when I'm doing the same thing.
Another amazing tutorial Grant! Keep em coming :)
I was initially really confused as to why this video was in the Get Good at Blender playlist since it wasn't a Beginner's Exercise video, but I am EXTREMELY thankful that it was. Trying to wrap your head around topology is extremely difficult, especially as a beginner, and even though I thought the process would be pretty straight forward, I struggled super hard on this tutorial, but learned probably the most from it. Thank you, Grant!!
Nice tutorial. Blender can make such simple things looks so beautiful in the hands of someone like you!
What a fantastic way to do this, i would of never thought to merge down a cube to a single vert, and then on top of it proceed to extrude it. Brilliant!
I used to grab a plane and delete 3 out of the four vertices and proceed from there
i have seen diff tutorials for Doing the same effect or shapes and each Person has their own techniques , when i saw the Name of the Video my mind thought about SVG but Grant is doing another technique and its very Illustrative and great done , i see so many comments like now many people began to learn blender and now they know all and correcting the teacher , if you use adobe and svg excellent , but come on guys , If you already are that good in blender why watching tutorials ? Good Video Grant . yes i watch them cause im learning blender .
Thanks :)
Turning a self-designed surface (vector) into 3d was exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much for making it that simple.
me too
Been looking for a way to build 3d terrain maps from artwork I had been working on. Think this will be a great help , thanks Grant!
I spent hours to figure out how to keep a good topology with such a logo. It's crazy how a simple shape in 2D can be hard to make in 3D with good topology
sharp corners and spikes are never easy
This is applicable to way more than logos. Geez man you taught this so well thank you
Thanks :)
This was actually a fun little exercise. I'm finally starting to comprehend edge flow and the use of quads a little better. I still don't fully understand but this went a long way to help me visualize it better. Thanks Grant!
How is it now for you?
Brilliantly efficient tutorial. Thank you, mate
Had to rewatch this again! it’s I very important workflow
Amazing tutorial! Thank you so much for sharing - you really helped me out.
Thanks Grant! Your lessons are so useful!
Thanks :)
thanks grant! loved this with coffee!!
I am an intermediate blender user...
and I have come to learn triangles and ngons are not bad...
Infact they are useful when you want to kill loops
thank you so much for the amazingly explained, detailed videos in an encouraging, soothing, meditating voice..!
im just so thankful..!
smooth flow yo ! thank you alot
thank you very much for the useful tips, I was trying to find a .blend model for a discord logo for hours but couldnt find one. I looked up a how to make logos on yt and found your vid. It helped alot, thank you.
This turned out to also work brilliantly for cleaning up text, where Blender makes a real dog's breakfast out of the top and bottom faces when converting to mesh. Instead I converted without those faces and used this method. Thanks!
Really Good Explanation!
Thank You
Completed! Thank You So Much!
Thank you, love this tutorial, helped a lot!
this tutorial is very good, not only you teached me about making logos, and you teached me how to shade better
Second time I've used this - super helpful!
Damn...great vid, love ur work
REALLY EXCELLENT. Thank You.
Lovely content bro!! cheers!!
Wow great explained.
This is great! Thank you!
Thanks :)
Nicely Done!
no cubes were harmed during this tutorial
I learned a lot about topology and quads thanks grant
pressing even and flip works nicely with the edge loop in the logo
nice, merry christmas !
thank you, very helpful! I didn't do it exactly like you, but it worked out anyway. You gave me the starting point : )
NEW SUB ... THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY BROTHER
oh man that turn HDRI to invisible is something i wanted to know for weeks! :D
Thank you so much !!! I'm a complete beginner with Blender and I succeeded creating a whole airline emblem :-)
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!
Great video! Not too long and as detailed as needed!
thank you so much!!!
Been wondering how I could do this for a bit. Thanks man this was awesome
Thanks :)
Great tutorial...thank you so much
Thanks Grant
If anyone did this and extruded with E but ended up with a hollow model just reselect all the vertices and press F to fill and it will be a solid 3d object
grants mehn you are good, your lectures helps me pull through............there's a way you take your time to give detailed Explanations..... keep up the good works
Thank you!
Thank you!!!
Thank you very much sir.
Thanks Grant... it's very detail tutorial, i'm searching for how to extrude 2d logo... and i get it in this place... thanks you very much...
Whats weird for me is after doing this theres just a random floating vetex (hopefully thats what you call the dots) on the side that I can't remove. The rotation and size is also dependent on that singular point.
Edit: Figured it out. It was the point of origin. If you click the menu object -> set origin -> you can then select where you want your origin
Alternatively you can click the options menu and check the origin check box and click g to move it around
Hi Grant! I'm new to your channel and finding these tutorials so great! Thank you for all this work. I was wondering what software you use to show your mouse and keyboard input on the bottom right side of the screen. That is so helpfull. Thanks again :)
Jayanams screen cast keys
good tips any tips for me just starting out with my own tutorials
The vertex cross symbol doesn’t show up for me to start lining up my image I need help
not sure why that would be
make 3d logos from 2d images:
Proceeds to using default cube right in front of audience!!!
anyone else gasp when this happened?
Works thx
Could never find how to F Fill quads!! Thank you so much for this!!
what about if you have to do separate snips like for the eyes in the discord logo?
do them as separate shapes
CRTL + RMB instead of e to extrude and move ! GREAAAT ! Thank you again !
did extrude a plane achieved nearly identical result takes about the same time though
great sir thank you alot
Blender can do anything🔥
good job bro
8:49 all you needed to do was to move the vertex that's at the end of the edge running down the middle of the area, move it back a bit, then form two quads there. No need to push an extra quad into the middle.
Very nice tutorial. Good pace and clear. My only issue is I don't see all the meshlines like you do at 13:48 . I just see the polygons I edited and my smooth shape inside. Am I missing a checkbox to see all the new lines created by subdivision? Thanks alot
I think I was in wireframe mode
thanks alot
thanks a lot man : )
how do i make the second part of the logo?, the cube is used for the first one. I tried making a new cube but im not able to merge it
Ctrl j to join
what about the lower thing in the logo
you've showed that in intro and outro ...
but where is it? in the blender
thats just a layer in photoshop
good video man!
Seriously thank you so much.. it did take me a bit to figure out how to select the edges but I managed to get it eventually, here is the first part of my design.. skfb.ly/6QCYt it's really a testament to how good this video is, I've probably used Blender maybe 100 times in my life but not for years and a different version and i just used it for converting stuff for mods.. I pretty much have no experience doing things this way at all.. and I could follow this with pretty much no problem only thing was the alt left click which took me a while to see on your screen lol.. I did also do a render then just took a snippet of it lol.. looks nice though.. I really appreciate this video man like you probably just changed my life a bit..
EDIT; well I mean I just posted that on my Fb page and got a new page like pretty much straight away.. Already having an effect lol.. here's the pic of the render screen; facebook.com/FlufferbatIndustries/photos/a.2200018930270628/2539956072943577/?type=3&eid=ARBlyR1n91az_OfJa5WVsl-yCiEtcBSrIjtOx5MElP5w_X1_HRbZHT_wvFwuntnVArWqNQAV0lv-N1-P&__tn__=EHH-R Really couldnt thank you enough for this skillset, This video has so many good little tricks useful in all sorts of ways..
your right just tried grid fill just makes a mess
Hi thanks, i wanna ask about bevel here, if you bevel all the edges of the default cube, the loops will flow just fine from all directions but if you bevel only one edge then the loops no longer flow in all directions, how to tidy up that or what to keep in mind while using bevel. I heard shade smooth and bevel saves you a lot of polygons.
not completely sure what you are asking here
the wolf is amazingly beautiful...
hello in 5:53 how did you select and delete it?? im confused in this part
After trying SVG files and complicated node set ups I finally realized that doing it by hand is the best way to make images 3d. Thank you
is there an easy way to reduce the amount of anchor points on the object overall so that the curves are more simplistic?
Delete them
Love the butler voice. 👍👍
Really cool tutorial! Quick tip: you might want to enable the F2 addon which allows you to do a lot of cool stuff! For example if you want to create a quad, instead of extruding a vertex to have 4, you can actually take the vertex which is on the opposite side of the quad and hit F (if that makes sense). The addon will do the extrusion for you and create the face!
nice
where do you get this addon and are there tutorials?
@@iamthekaverik it's available by default, and has a documentation link you can follow to know everything you need
This is beautiful!
I couldn’t save the rendered image because it was in cycles. Do you have an updated video on this in your playlist that explains how images could be saved even when rendered in cycles?
Yes you can save the cycles render. It was probably just still rendering
What do i do if its a "0" and have a separate inner space instead? The first vertices and last inner point try to connect to each other
Connect in a square not a point
Just a little tip, there is a shortcut for making creases just press shift + e to do creases :)) also you can dissolve edges/faces/vertecies by pressing ctrl + x :))
thanks
@@grabbitt no problem :))
what about tracing it with the bezzier curve? would that work too?
yes i prefer my way but that works too
Had a slight problem while doing the inset. There was some visual glitches happening no matter how little I did the inset, merging the vertices solved it however because 5 vertices was overlapping apperantly.
one more thing. At 2:17, I cant drag it and I am doing what you said. I am not sure if its because I have a different blender, but it looks the exact same as yours.
i cannot see shaded preview of the logo , i am new to blender can anyone help
alt+a doesn't remove the rotation. You could have something that shows on the screen what you are pressing, like in other blender videos
bottom right are screen cast. alt r
Question how did you do the second part that looks like a moon because I can't do more than one dot
Extend it by pressing E
Funny that, I would have used curve (bezier for example) then change it into a mesh.... well played, Grant!
yes that would work. I find this a little easier :)
I thought it was going to use a height map add-on or something. This is better. :)
I don't know but it feels like a bezier curve would work better for a less spiky shape, and just drawing the shape might work well for a pointier thing like this. Maybe a mix of the two to get pointy bits and perfect curves for the curvy bits?
Great Video! 14:22 though, how do you get to completing that design? Right now there is only one center vertex and how to create two of them for the second shape?
I can't remember sorry
I guess, adding another cube and using its vertex for the center would help?
@@vishyonkeys ya, that should do it!
should the polys look like a square of some sort or is it enough to have 4 edges?
Rectangles are fine
Thank you so much
13:54, I followed every step but can't seem to have mine look the same when i go to wireframe mood.
I love how you said I’m not going through the dashboard and tools and then still name them lol a teacher can never not teach 😂😂🤣🤣💪🏾💪🏾💪🏾
true :)
Grant Abbitt ......do you know anyone selling full body trackers
FASTER WAY would be:
vectorizing the image first in Adobe Illustrator then export as an SVG file.
Import the SVG into Blender then convert to mesh.
Remesh to make quads, then apply the Remesh.
Extrude.
Done :)
the remesh is not the best quality unless you want to go very high poly
