I appreciate the positive feedback! Unfortunately, I'm not a 2D animator - my experience with 2D animation is one introductory course in college like 7 years ago 😅
I'm trying to simulate what you're doing here. After creating the original "disk" by extruding the outer circle, when I select other shape inside the circle, the Object Data Properties tab disappears. Because of this, I can't seem to get past the first step of the extrusion process. Any tips?
Dont know is you read and comment on these... but praying you do. Since you already have a SVG of the logo, is there not a way in 2.9 to just pick the color sections of the image and just extrude them to different heights, then bevel them, and then save the file to prep for a 3d printer?
Hey! You absolutely can just import an SVG rather than tracing, but you'll end up with a lot of unnecessary points that may cause issues when you go to bevel it. The cleanest way to do it is to trace it yourself - but an SVG can work (with some cleanup). You'll also (probably) have to close the shapes if you import an SVG.
I came here to watch a video on something related to a stream thing I was looking into, and the next thing I know I am ass deep in learning how to use blender.
Very useful tutorial! I am just a bit curious to know why you did not import the logo’s svg file and saving the time and energy to trace the logo manually?
It's been a while, but I think I mentioned it briefly in the video at some point - SVGs are just a lot messier than doing it yourself - you end up with a ton of unnecessary points that can cause issues when you convert it to 3D and try to bevel it and such later 😅
Starting to feel like a pain with the questions but when I try bringing in a svg file made in Illustrator using shift + A > image > reference it does not bring it in. But when I use grease pencil option it opens but i don't get the image option on the tool bar to set to 2d or the transparency controls. What program did you make your Logo in? Help me Obi Wan.... your my only hope. Are you using 2.93
Can you type on a curve or do you have to move text by hand per letter. I.E. I have text that wraps around the circumference of a circle.... in blender
i was following along with my logo, and i was trying to make my image more transparent, but I couldn't find it in the image tab. I have the recent Blender 2.9. Can anyone help me?
I can't wait to try drawing my chili in this format, spicy coins will be dropping soon. I am hoping it gives me enough experience to try and make my chili into a full 3D character like your fish.
now how am i supposed to take this logo i made with shiny cool reflections and put it in davinci resolve? i was able to figure out how to import it but it's all one color and idk how to get the color and metallic + roughness effects over into davinci resolve?
You have to render it out by going to render > render image or render > renderanimation (upper left) If you've animated it, I'd recommend rendering out to a PNG image sequence to maintain transparency for taking it into DaVinci resolve. Note that to render it, you'll need at least a camera in the scene (add > camera) and preferably some lights. To give the Logo something to reflect, there are tons of free environment maps on hdrihaven.com that you can use as your world image! (just learned about this site recently)
Hey Chris, another great tutorial that I'm enjoying very much! Thanks for that. I have a question: How can I make the same sort of spinning logo, but with a different image on the backside (with the same shape though)?
Good question! You could make both sides of the coin individually, make two coin "collections", then rotate the second around 180 degrees and put it on the back of the first coin. Once you have them lined up, you can select the back coin, shift+select the front coin, then hit "ctrl+p" to bring up the parent menu and parent the back to the front. Then, whenever you move/rotate the front coin, the back one will move with it. A little bit difficult to explain over text, but hopefully the general idea helps 😅
If you just want the one coin edge and background, you could create all of the curve objects for each side of the coin and off-center the parts that you only want on one side.
@@StreamScholar Thanks for that quick reply! Yes, that helps me very much indeed. But it opens up another question: How do I only "Extrude" on one side? :D
ive followed all these steps however it doesnt allow me to add a texture when i add it too another project also if i was too add an image texture in its own save it gets all dissertated and unable to scale images anyone know why this is
What if I were trying to make a circle with a hollow middle, not like a donut, more like the outline of a coin just with a greater thickness, sort of like a 3D loading circle, would I just make a cylinder with a hollow middle?
The principle is covered right around 7:00 in the video - you can make a curve cicle, go into edit mode, add another curve circle and scale it down - then, when you enable filling for it, the smaller circle will cut out of the bigger one (hope this makes sense 😅)
When I extrude a part of my logo and set the fill type to both, nothing happens. But when I do it for some basic shapes such as circles, it works perfectly. Do you know why this is happening? My logo is a different one.
@@peterporker1990 Hop into the questions and help section of the discord and post some screenshots of your curve settings, and I'll be able to help better 😄 - it's difficult to know what's going on without seeing it.
For me, F3 brings up the search menu - but you can also go to the upper left corner of your 3d viewport and click "Object > Convert To > Curve" (I had to look that up haha - I never know where things are in the menus 😂)
What are you trying to do? If you want the 3D object in another scene, you'll have to save the blender file (file > save as) and append it into another scene (file > append) - exporting an image or image sequence is for final output to be used on stream or in video editing software 😅

Did you make the two shapes closed by selecting the two ends and pressing F. Or you have to extrude the skeleton more than the base and set the fill to both.
You have to make sure that at least two connected points are selected before you hit subdivide, or it won't do anything - if you're still running into issues, feel free to hop into the #Questions-And-Help section on the discord and post some screenshots! 😅

Nice Work, but to save time you could use your logo as a vector graphic and import it as .svg if you dont have that you can convert .png files online to .svg doing a pretty good job. That gives you the vectorized splines to extrude from as well as the colors of your logo ;-)
@sirjack19 I guess it depends on the simplicity of the logo - I initially tried to import mine as an SVG before making the tutorial as a shortcut, and there were tons of unnecessary points 😅 (exporting from illustrator)
