OMG!!!! Colour picker on the colour within the node!!! All this time I've been copy/pasting hexadecimal values from node to node! Thanks for this!!!
u can just mouseover the colour and copy and paste the colour value directly. not even need to use the colour picker
you can also drag and drop the color from one node to other
Well explained. In your tutorials you can learn so much, even as an advanced user, thanks
Thanks :)
We never stop learning :)
That part of blender is so underated, I'm surprised of how much blender can handle
Brilliant tutorial, just the level I needed. You're a remarkable teacher
Another brilliant tutorial. Techniques used on the handle and the guard are precious
I love to learn it , as your tutorials are perfect for me as a starter , thank you so much , I really appreciate it ... I also followed your low poly medieval well , almost finished, the result is really satisfying, thank you
This stuff is absolutely incredible! Fantastic work Grant! I'm very new to Blender, but I'm watching a whole lot of your other videos, and I'm watching this sophisticated one and other ones like it because they're so inspiring. Oh and I got your Character Creation course recently, so I'm looking forward to that as well.
Great video series mate, really liked this one with the multiple texture methods. Top work!
i enjoy this type of series. i like the third methods in texturing. Just done the modeling of knife, now onwards the texturing parts.
Great Tutorial once again - love making my way through your wonderful and abundant collection of tutorials. Looking forward to hearing details of your upcoming kick-starter, which I'll hopefully be in a position to participate in.
Thank you for the pointiness geometry node tip! I'm totally using that in the future
Your explanation is just so good.
This is exactly what I have been looking for regarding texturing! Thanks!
Glad I could help!
SUPER SUPER USEFUL. more of these on point texturing tutorials please!
Will do!
that tutor blowing my mind! thx!
I'd love a tutorial on how to make the crevasses! I was a little disappointing after working on my model that it wasn't in the first video. Love your tutorials, I've progressed so far in just this one series!
Thanks, really feel comfortable with your speech speed. Great tutorial,!
Great tutorial as always. Thank u very much dude.
YES, this is what I have been looking for.
Nice thanks. I love you Grant
ohh god, incredible tutorials, amazing channel. Thank you very much for all this.
awesome tutorial and well explained !
you are a great teacher
This tutorial was extremely inspiring
Thank you alot. Very good explaining
thank you so much
this was too helpful
Grant Abbitt is the best :)
Please do make a detailed tutorial, i was struggling a lot making those crevices.... it was before these knife tutorials so i went with a simple one
Me too! I try here... but, no luck!
i know Im asking randomly but does anybody know of a tool to log back into an instagram account??
I was stupid forgot the password. I love any tricks you can offer me!
@Alaric Dayton Instablaster =)
@Jericho Carl I really appreciate your reply. I found the site thru google and I'm trying it out atm.
I see it takes quite some time so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Jericho Carl It did the trick and I actually got access to my account again. I am so happy!
Thank you so much you saved my account :D
Thank you for the tutorial. I think the texturing quality should be acceptable for games... Atleast for any indie game... Please keep them coming! Peace ✌️
Wow cool work , glad you chose the photo of my knife to work with!
Cool glad you like the results 😃
Thanks so much
GREAT!
Legendary❤
I was playbacking this at 0.75... I was like WTF happened to Grant ?
Thank you very much in advance for your dedication to creating these tutorials.
They helped a lot to organize things in my head.
In this tutorial, you show me three types of texturing:
-Project from view
-Paint texture using
stencil
- Use nodes to do texturing.
But I'm looking for the method used by the big triple AAA game studios. I already noticed they use PBR textures to obtain the most realistic materials possible.
My questions are the following:
I can not complicate things and do the texturing in blender or I have to learn how to use Subtance Painter?
What is the path to follow to obtain the most realistic result possible?
If you have a tutorial that can show me the complete texturing process in Blender to make triple AAA assets, I'd appreciate the tip!
Check out my character course or landscape course for AAA workflow
yeahhh i want advanced,,,we love u grantabbit
loved the Tutorial, ❤️ and yes please show us the third way!
The third way? :D
Great tutorial 🙏
Ty for the good tutorial.
I understand a bit more about how texture and i guess ill go for the first 2 methods, because nodes are a headache for me :C
very nice...tyvm
I'd love a tutorial on how to make the crevasses too ;)
Thanks for your super tutorials
Looks good Grant, as always.
If you have a chance sometime, it would be good to know how you go about populating a scene, to make it look natural, with the lighting, and what things you think about before starting one, and how to lay it out... thanks again.
see my video on composition fairly recent
please make a tutorial on adding 3d objects to an image
yes please a tutorial the pinches and so for the blade
A tutorial to serrate the blade would be awesome
Great video
cool
plz Mr.Grant Abbitt keep making tutorial u r best wow
Magic :O
Great tutorial again Grant! I'm just wondering why the back side of the blade is not textured like the foreground! Half green, half color from the handle. Do I have for this to apply the mirror and uvunwrap both sides?
it should appear exactly the same if your mirror is working correctly and you deleted half your shape
Thanks a lot sir. I used this to make human minaiture
Me: "This tutorial is 18 minutes long... OK, let's get to it"
*2 hours later*
Me: "Well it didn't go as planned".
nice
11.30 respected sir while I brushing then A line center to brush comes out and brush work according to that line, please suggest.
Eek. This works for what it is, but shouldn't be used for games because of the odd aspect and wasted texture space. Here's what you can do to help that:
1- join all the meshes off the bat. One third the draw calls and texture requests.
2- you can make the textures exactly as shown in the video, or any other way, but you should follow what I say next in order to optimise texture space;
First, have 2 UV Maps in the UV tab. The first will be the messy one that you used to texture the model, the second will just be a normal, untouched smart UV project OR custom unwrap if you'd like.
Second, create another texture in your UV material tab, name it anything you'd like, I'd call mine "Bake"
Third, put down an image texture node in your node setup for your mesh, and have that black texture selected. Have that node selected.
Fourth, with that node selected and that blank texture set in the node, head over to your UV's section and make sure the one SHOWN (the little white camera) is the UV map that was messy for the textures, your first one. SELECT your second UV map but do not enable it, just have it highlighted.
Fifth, switch to cycles, and navigate to the bake tab, set the bake type from "Combined" to "Diffuse" and deselect indirect and world lighting to save on render, just keep diffuse. Double check everything is selected properly. Hit "Bake"
Done! You've just made your texture, and given your mesh a neat UV map while also retailing texture space AND giving every polygon a mapped piece of texture for future editing!
I'm trying to figure out how to prepare texture to export into after effect element 3D plugin. I succeed once, but it was messy, need to be more efficient. I believe your comment would be the answer. The problem is it's kinda hard to follow your comment now, I'll come back when I'm getting used to this UV and unwrap etc. Thanks
Is there a way to texture paint (especially in stencil mode) by loading in multiple existing PBR textures (e.g. albedo, roughness, normal) and then affecting multiple texture paint slots at once? I think that the fundamentals for functionality like that are already there and it would bring Blender a step closer to Substance Designer. Thank you for the tutorial!
i dont think so but there maybe some addons for this
for some reason my brush is only painting at the backside of where I am drawing and I cant figure out the setting for that. any idea/help? :)
Edit: found it, under the brush options untick "backface culling"
face direction or reverse normals
Do we need to maintain proper topology while making models for films or product viz?
it can help but its not essential. as long as it does not get too large
We need more
just select everything press u and pick project from view scale a little bit and you are done
Hello and thank you again for a very informative clip. This may be hard to answer (or easy) the texture painting isn't quite working for me. I can't paint with the stencil directly on the object but CAN paint in the bottom left view 8:50 onward. Strength is 1, mapping is stencil. Can't think of anything else that might be different. Thanks though. Practice I guess...
probably faces reversed or doubles
had the same problem. face orientation was the solution!
Do you have to bake the node thing in the end into a image texture so you can export it into a game?
yes see my baking playlist for more info
I thought i was the only one who is lazy in texture painting i also use that projected from view technique
Any plan To use UDIMs to texture in the future?
probably
Good tut, stenciling was great. If you go further, can you explain how to turn the painted textures into PBR please?
The only way I've seen to do that is a mess... if blender would implement a way to not have your stencil move, or paint multiple textures at the same time, similar to substance, it would be easier... I don't like how substances stencil painting works... or maybe I don't do it right... but it is good for painting multiple maps. GL... I had to do it in blender for a curved roof, and it was just lining up the map, not moving it from its origin... then switching everything for the next map, and painting each spot... took about 3 hours for a relatively small area.
@@jaih12 If that's the case, then it sounds like stencil approach will never give you a PBR compatible texture format, doesn't it? No roughness map, no metallic map? Not even a normal or bump map unless you convert it to a simple greyscale.
Seems like this approach is for low quality work only if that's true.
@@count23all u can do it, you just have switch between the pbr maps, for your stencil, and not move your camera. So u paint your difuse where u want. Then switch the map to say normal, and switch to the normal texture to paint on... same for all of the maps.
You can do it, but it's a huge pain in the ass.... someone who is smarter then me, should make a node that can paint from multiple inputs onto multiple maps at once... otherwise this is the only route I've found... but IT DOES WORK.
I can't find the mapping -> stencil option on the newer blender version, where might it be?
Stroke settings I think
Question - At around 10:50 when you paint the stencil over the knife handle, for me it paints the stencil on the reverse side to what I paint on - (i.e. if I paint the handle left side - the stencil appears on the right.., same if I paint handle top - stencil appears on bottom side) any idea why, thanks ?
Edit: I might as well add my solution here
In Edit Mode -> SHIFT N to Recalculate Normals... this worked for me.
Flip the normals
we love u
can you do a tutorial on texturing with substance and blender both!
i dont use substance enough at the moment
In texture painting mode ,when you are showing to scale and rotate the stencil of your image....I have a question there...
Can I change the scale of stencil only in one axis. I.e to stretch it?
dont think so
@@grabbitt I had taken a refrence image of pistol , modeled the pistol then used same png image as a stencil ..but stencil is bit stretchy than refrence image...can u figure out what will be the problem?
Why do I have to unwrap it all at the same time for video game?
And did you make it game ready on here?
Thanks for the tutorial! I am learning a lot!
not sure what you mean with the question
plzz do the detailed tutorial it will de sooo helpful
Hi there. All is well except that when im painting my stencil onto the object it paints the opposit side of the handle that im clicking on. Not sure what went wrong help is appreciated thankyou.
face direction
Select all your faces and: Mesh > Normals > Flip (or hit F3 and type "Flip").
@@ChrisBarnes89 棒!
I want a same series of sculpting !!! I am really stucked there , I don't understand what to Sculpt at the biggining
i have a playlist :)
On your own projects... do you use what software for texture? I mean... do you use blender for texture?
Thanks for this series, I am learning a lot with you! Plz, make a details tutorial on those crevices, I think we could learn a lot about topology with it.
Yes blender for everything
I can't see my image when in uvunwrapping or texture paint tab, help pls
Difficult to say perhaps send a screen shot
@@grabbitt Nevermind i figured it out
How do you combine these 3 materials into one for mobile game? By baking? How about materials expression for each part metal and wood in only one material?
See my more detailed tutorials on the axe
Please a tutorial on detail
Can you use blender like substance painter ?
yes but its a bit harder to set up
HELP.... Why am I not getting the right colors when I texture paint(stencil)? I'm getting a darker effect, I cannot copy the colors of the sample image... thanks
Check your tone
I made the blade last and while i made the blade somehow my handle went black and the wood painted texture is just black even though in the preview it still looks like it did before. Does anyone have an idea how to fix this? I dont know why the wood painted texture is compeltely black again all of a sudden
Did you have your texture?
@@grabbitt Yes, everything was still there except for what I 'painted' with the stencil. In the material preview it was still there as well. I'm not sure what went wrong but I just did it again, at least that's more practice c:
hey...i need some help... sometimes my scroll button doesnt scroll(zoom) like its supposed to do...i don't know why...but i observed that it hapens when i hit shift to and scroll button to move around...can you help mey sort this out
Just go to "view" and click "view selected" and it may fix it
@@dolu6321 sorry for the trouble but could you tell me why did that happened
@@psubin7836 I think this is because you are focusing from a larger scale object to a smaller scale one and blender didn't change the dimension automatically and you need to do the "view selected" thing to tell blender you want to change the view dimension
@@dolu6321 ohh now i get it.. thanks allot 😊
detail tut plz
I cant figure out how to texture all of the separate knife sections by using just the texture painting method. You showed us three ways of texturing but you split up each lesson with each separate section of the knife. Therefor, you've only giving us a third of the workflow for each method. So, how does one go about texturing each separate section using only the Texture Painting method within this lesson?
Repeat the method

how to add an asset in a blender project
not sure what you mean
@@grabbitt download an asset and add it to a blender set
Yeah , we could use a detail tutorial
my brain stopped working at this course, everything was fine at other courses
Grant Abbitt, I really find UV unwrapping a big problem
have you followed the links to my beginners playlist
for uv unwrapping that is
Hey, thanks for all your great work! You taught me so many things with your Tutorials. But now I struggle with a little Animation, that I thought it would be easy, when I started it. I created al little scene with a Pillow lying on a Floor. Above the Pillow there are a Bunch of Easter Eggs, that should fall into the Pillow. I could not manage to work that out properly. Perhaps you, or someone else can give me some hints an Tipps, how this would work. I tried really almost everything (Rigid Body, Soft Body, Dynamic Paint, etc.), but with no success. Here you find my Blenderfile as Startingpoint: www.dropbox.com/s/tzvdc1h15dw5znz/Ostern%202020%20Kissen%20YT.blend?dl=0
I've not used soft bodies yet
Ironically you didn't use the slice tool.
Grant, your highlight was a leisurely narrative (and you have a very nice timbre 😊) like in elementary school. Could you continue not to speed up your speech (for foreign viewers)?
How are you...? Is all well...,☺️#letsfightcorona
fine thanks. I hope you are well too :)
too many new info!
I appreciate your work and contribution here. However, Your video was preceded by 3:00 minutes of advertisements. It is unbearable. This is a recent change on RUclips. I have been a user for years, and this is new and is going to be a service killer if they do not change it back quickly. People are talking all over the web in recent days.
3:00 minutes in two advertisements before this video started. The same ad I have seen three times in the last 40 minutes watching your videos. Unacceptable. I realize you have nothing to do with this. Not your doing or fault.
Yes that's awful. And quite scary. If enough people leave youtube for other platforms, it will be a struggle for creators
@@grabbitt On to reply, I have a 2:19 video about passive income playing as I type. This is insanity. I have gone in and reduced all interest topics, etc. That was followed by a 1:31 ad about software. 2:19 + 1:31 before your video starts.
