Let's forget labels (grunge and *hit), STP are one of the best rock bands ever, minimal and biting riffs and Scott was a unique songwriter, performer with a really outstanding voice. So underrated, they age better and better over time, like the best wines... 5 stars

Everybody criticized them back then, saying they were too much like Pearl Jam, they were just another grunge cliche, when really all they ever wanted to do was just play, they did it so well, they were so talented.

Purple is way better than anything Pearl jam put out. Now interstate love song is on a car commercial lol. Great band, but there was only one way for it to end up, Scott was getting busted left and right with heroin in the 90s.

    • @blppt

To be fair, Core is a PJ, AIC, Nirvana rip off. After that, they didn't really sound like anything else, starting with this excellent album.

@@blppt If STP didnt find their own sound with purple, I'd find them in the same mold as Bush. While I dont abhor Bush, some of what they did in the 90's was alright, but at the same time was very cliche and formulaic. So glad STP stripped their sound after Core. It was what almost every big band did in that decade because they didnt want to be put in the same mold. Too bad music doesn't breath and have life anymore like it used to.

    • @blppt
      @blppt 5 лет назад +18

@@First1it1Giveth blame protools and autotune for that. in modern music everything is set into a grid in production so there's no life in the recording, and autotune used live to keep vocalists near-perfect.

I have been to many, many concerts in my 60 years of life, but I really don't think anyone rocked harder and had the stage presence of STP. I only saw them one time back in the 90's when I took my son to see them at the UCSD Remac Arena in San Diego. Cheap trick opened for them. It was the same then as now - it was just more hidden. The music was better, though - and it was new, but politically correct ‘wokeness’ had already taken root. I look back & see a lot of lost years working to build friendships and vocations that all evaporated. There were high points then, and there are high points now - but now I know better & steer clear, abandon hope, and enjoy the solitude. It’s good now to be able to appreciate music of the 90s without any shallow 90s Marxist assholes in my life wrecking it 🍸

One time a thing occurred to me
What's real and what's for sale
Blew a kiss and tried to take it home
    It isn't you, isn't me
Search for things that you can't see
    Going blind out of reach
    Somewhere in the vasoline
Two times and it has rendered me
    Punch drunk and without bail
Think I'd be safer all alone
Flies in the vasoline we are
    Sometimes it blows my mind
Keep getting stuck here all the time
    It isn't you, isn't me
Search for things that you can't see
    Going blind out of reach
    Somewhere in the vasoline
    You'll see the look
    And you'll see the lies
    You'll eat the lies
    And you will

Stp was the epitome of grunge at its purest form ...the whole band was all technique, different chord progressions from classical, world, to jazz, killer baselines and plethora of rymthic drum patterns🔥🔥🔥 the media drowned them out with the drama that all bands went through.. hands down legends of grunge 🔥🙏🔥

stage presence odd and quirky at times.. but hey he got your attention ? To make you think..for real? make you wonder? What made him unique made him real ..until
      You believed
      In him too.

I saw them live twice. Great show. They stopped and did an acoustic set in the middle of the show. They had a second stage above the stage that lowered down on cables on top of the main stage. On there they already had their acoustic instruments set up. They just stepped aside while it lowered and then stepped onto it to perform. I've never seen anything like it.
