Same. It's been my favorite song and music video from the first time I heard it when it was released. Still to this day nothing's changed, I love this song
as a kid in the mid 1990s (middle school) my head was more in the clouds that i wasn't paying too much attention to the music scene BUT now (young adult years: mid 20s) i see a WHOLE lot of raw excellent talent and im glad i live in a generation (age of fast internet) to experience it all over again.
They were slighted by snobby rock music critics from the get go. It seemed there was a faction in the business that much favored the darlings of Alternative Rock namely bands from the Seattle area. They were branded as Pearl Jam as well as Nirvana clones simply because some of their songs sounded a little grungy. Those people that think STP was trying to be a grunge band never listened to their albums. They took the word of some writer from Rolling Stone Magazine that they were posers as Scott was an Eddie Vedder wannabe. Anyone who thinks Scott and Eddie sound alike has a tin ear.
Young people today would lose their minds were they to travel back in time. The 80s and the 90s, not arguably the best decades for young people, a great balance of the old world and the new and countless opportunities for youthful expression.
It was definitely our version of the 80’s which we got to see also. Nothing music wise today will be remembered 20 years from now but we’re still going to be listening to this
1995 - what a great year to be alive as a 19 years old. Modern rock was on its peak. I remember those rainy nights at 7E with now lost friends smoking and drinking beers while listening to STP, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains playing in a 90s portable mini compo. Thanks to Scott who saved so many youths all over the world like me from becoming a criminal or psycho. Your music made us grounded and strong. 🙏
Without a doubt, the most underrated band of the “grunge/alternative” era. Maybe of all time. This song takes me back to childhood, 6th grade, to be exact. It was great having this sort of talent around. MTV was still rocking and playing great videos. No shortage of quality musicianship. At least we can revisit here on RUclips, right?
1994, what a year. I graduated high school, started college, got a girlfriend, the world was just opening up to me and this album played the whole time. I would go back in a heartbeat if it was possible.
That iconic riff at 0:52. One of the essential sounds of the 90s, in my opinion. Evokes the image of busting out of the front doors on the last day of school, welcoming summer, trotting out as skateboarders whiz by....
@dread true absolutely agreed, Dean DeLeo is a so great guitar player, but he seems a normal guy and not a superstar... maybe for this he hasn't a fair value... I don't know.
There are some bands and some songs that live so deeply in my brain that I can go ten years without hearing them and then immediately recall every word, chord, beat, feeling, friendship, heartbreak, and joyous moment I ever had listening to them. This is at the top of that list.
@@whitetiger5181 True, Princess Diana's death in 1997 dampened the jovial tone in the British Isles.. Then 9 11 shook the Western World and many Islamic lands were destabilised and destroyed by the subsequent Nato retribution from Afghanistan, Middle East and North Africa. Now, We all seem to be divided even in our own lands and seem to be all living in fear... Crazy! ... Fuck it, Have not much sand left in the hourglass. Am 47 and I often wonder at the miracle that I am still alive and possess two arms and two legs. So am grateful. God is Good, But he certainly is a mysterious puzzler: I get confused with it all... ✝
I was ten and just hit my first home run in Babe Ruth league. My dad had a Marlboro lit in our Dodge Neon with this song playing on DC101 and patted me on the head and told me he was proud of me. Had a lot of ups and downs in life, but nothing compares to that moment. This song always takes me back
I know this isn't true because the Dodge Neon wasn't broken down in the driveway with a busted rear main seal, although I suppose you didn't say you were driving lol
+GB Rossell That is so very true. Thinking back to my college days in '94, dressed in my baggies and flannel shirts like everyone else at the time. When I'd come in after class every afternoon I'd plop down on the couch and watch MTV and STP videos were always on. Miss that time and miss that music.
Two bands I've always came back to over the years, Stone Temple Pilots and Alice in Chains. Amazing music, great singing...cant get enough of that bass stirring things up in the background , or the signing ..what a mesmerizing song even the 1000th time.
this came on in the car today as my dad was taking me home from lacrosse practice and he turned it up real loud and rolled the windows down and told me he used to blast this song back in the day. i went home and looked it up and i’ve had it on repeat all day now!! it’s so so good!
STP is the best!! Im glad you got to hear it with your dad. He's definitely right about this being an awesome song & seems like you will start to listen & ❤ them too.
I saw this band 20 years ago after Scott got out of jail. He never looked or sounded better. Don't ever pass up the chance to see a band that you love because you just never know....
I sang along to every song at the one show I saw them play, got some funny looks, but I was really feeling the energy, and Scott wasn't around much longer.
@@matthoward8546 they seem to have bad luck when it comes to lead singer's. Scott, then Chester... R.I.P. But now its currently on Jeff's shoulders. And while it seems he does a pretty good job, and better than Chester (imo) Scott was clearly the best.
my brother, my dad, n i used to go to the lake n fish for the weekend about once a month. norman rockweller-esque childhood. i'm lucky. it was awesome. the three of us would build a fire at night n listen to classic rock while my dad had a couple beers. one night at the lake around '93ish, the Houston, TX classic rock fm station we loved turned into an alternative rock station around 10pm for the first time and played STP's interstate love song. none of us had ever heard anything like it but when it ended my dad said something like" that was pretty damn good". This song was our first intro to alternative rock. it remains as one of my favorite songs ever. good times

Let's raise a glass and toast on December 3rd of 2020 because we will never forget this man that was ahead of his time in the 90s and Beyond during his life with the Stone Temple Pilots. Unique and talented in his own way along with the legends of grunge. RIP Scott, your music will be forever in my memory along with your other fans. 🥃💜
Amen...his dazzling voice was the soundtrack to mine and many others youth, rest in peace you beautifully sensitive soul...loved you in concert live! 💔
My parents were teenagers in the 90s. Born 1979. Definitely can see why they say this was the best time to be a teen. I was 1 generation late 😅. We were raised on this music growing up and my younger brother has taken that step further and formed his own band. Got to keep this music alive
Go you Millennial ROTFL. Your parents are literally MILLENIALS too. 79 ain't old, I'm a TRUE Gen Xr born in 1970. They are Millenials, you might be a Zoomer
Amphibian Effect 🙌🏻Cool Mom! & nice memories... Even though my (now late) Mom was born in 1949 she would heavy drum along to STP, Pearl Jam, Nirvana and Rage Against The Machine -while driving❤️
It's too sad and raucous for me! I'd rather hear sweet children's voices singing hopeful and joyful carols at Christmas! I'm sorry for the people who made ithis "music" and put it up...praying for you! Lean into your compassion, it gives us good ideas to help others, and heals a person from selfish imaginings. Have a happy day...find Jesus! (:D He loves us all, and died to prove it!
This song makes me tear up for some reason. Scott couldn't conquer his demons but he left us some great tracks. Hope you found peace at last my brother.
Can't separate the two. If he didn't have that highly mercurial element inside himself, & all that comes along with living in a world that does its best to crush everyone, while euphoria exists as an achievable escape from the drudge, however temporary & fraught with risk ... this song wouldn't exist. Some people are gifted with the ability to walk into the fire, come back out the other side & describe it to the rest of us, but fire does burn. He lived the way he chose to. The world is better for him having done so.
What a kick ass rock and roll song. You can listen to this song as many times as you want, and it never gets old. Actually, it gets better and better as you hear it more. STP... first 2 albums, as good as it gets.
Ralph Italian I agree, but the rest of their catalog is great, it evolves and matures, also emulates their inspirations. They are great! 1st two albums are immortalized in my head.
Grungie Lucy don't we all. it's a shame to see some live performances when he's fucking doped out mumbling :'( one of the greatest most versatile singers ever
Dude I was born in 89 and I was mainly in to TX and Cali rap growing up, but I just recently discovered STP and freaking love them man, I originally thought nirvana was my fav rock band but this band is just as badass too no lie homie
ABSOLUTELY!! IK theyre from San Diego not Seattle but who gives a fuck about they're geographical location fr. I feel there were 5 main bands of grunge not 4. JUST as I feel AIC was a lil overshadowed undeservedly by the other 3 STP was much more so. STP was as much a part of my life in that time even more so than 1 or 2 of the "GRUNGE 4" bands and definitely just as kickass.
Dude i was born in a Latin American country, and a lot of teenagers were into grunge and STP was one of the bands we listened to, so they were as famous as Nirvana.
This is STP at their absolute best. Purple was such an amazing album and showed that they were not just the Pearl Jam imitators that the music critics at the time labelled them to be. Scott was a brilliant songwriter and it breaks my fucking heart that his life was cut so short. He not only had one of the best voices of the 90s but of all time period!
Mike O I never understood why people think other musicians mimic others. There’s many people out there that have the same vibe and love the same style of music. Never made sense to me
Deb Benjo i was born in 01 and i found STP shortly after i found nirvana around 2011 and ever since then i knew i had bands i would love until i was buried🤘🏻🤘🏻
Same here. back in the day I was 8 back in 94' but remembering I wanted to know who this band was, glad I did, been a fan ever since. We just don't hear masterpieces like this no more, music industry is such shit now it's pathetic. Songs and bands like this are REAL. RIP Scott
I turned 60 this year and I started playing electric guitar for REAL when I turned 30. I learned every song by these guys, along with soundgarden Nivana Pearl jam. The usual suspects. Grunge was like Punk when I was young. Changed the game. I loved it.
Hiya, im 41 and mad to start playing either bass or electric. Is it too late for me? What would be a good beginners guitar, I'm in Ireland and have a low budget x
@@Blackkitty32 It's never too late. Squier, Epiphone, Ibanez, Kramer. All high quality Instruments. Don't start with a bad guitar, get something decent and get a professional setup. Very important. Anyway Guitar is the greatest adventure there is. Enjoy .
arguably the best rock song of the 90s. i don't know of many other songs that hit so well in terms of melody, vocals, song structure, guitar licks, bass melody, drums and overall feel. a bona fide classic
My son loves 90s rock. He listens to spotify and I can tell him the dates of all the songs within a year. He doesn't understand but it's tied to a memory and you know exactly what grade or summer it was and you'll never forget ❤️
This has to be one of the greatest rock songs of the last 30 years. Every time you hear it, it gives you the excitement like if it were the first time you heard it. Legendary!!!!!
I’m 50 myself . I remember when I was in the Marines at camp Pendleton when a buddy of mine got me and a few other guys a job as a yellow jacket working at Irvine Meadows . $25 for a night. I don’t know how successful we were at keeping people out but we sure did enjoy us some concerts and STP was one of them -they were awesome.
3 gripping chord progressions in under 1 minute, they absolutely owned music on this day . i can't begin to express the joy of listening to this song !
1994. It was almost the end of freshman year of high school. I was about to start my summer job, and this song was on a lot and I loved it. Saw The Crow twice that summer too. :D

For what I've read between the lines
Your lies
Feeling like a hand in rusted shame
So do you laugh or does it cry

Only yesterday you lied
Promises of what I seemed to be
Only watched the time go by
All of these things you said to me

With all I've said and all that's dead for

90's rock/alternative was one hell of a ride
It still is
It sure was. Miss those days. Good times, great memories.
Just almost as good as the 70's....:)
as a kid in the mid 1990s (middle school) my head was more in the clouds that i wasn't paying too much attention to the music scene BUT now (young adult years: mid 20s) i see a WHOLE lot of raw excellent talent and im glad i live in a generation (age of fast internet) to experience it all over again.
90's Rock is my favorite
Out of all the great riffs to come out of the 90’s, this is by far the greatest. No contest
Heavy- Collective Soul 👊. Get back to me.
This band should be in the rock and roll hall of fame.
Fuck the r&r hall of fame, they pay to get into that BULLSHIT SHAM
Facts
They were slighted by snobby rock music critics from the get go. It seemed there was a faction in the business that much favored the darlings of Alternative Rock namely bands from the Seattle area. They were branded as Pearl Jam as well as Nirvana clones simply because some of their songs sounded a little grungy. Those people that think STP was trying to be a grunge band never listened to their albums. They took the word of some writer from Rolling Stone Magazine that they were posers as Scott was an Eddie Vedder wannabe. Anyone who thinks Scott and Eddie sound alike has a tin ear.
@@snattlerthat is why rolling stone magazine has lost its credibility.
Vedder and Weiland have no connection. Jan Wenner deserved to be bashed for allowing bias in his "tribunal" of a magazine!

Brasil 🇧🇷 2024 👏👏👏👏STP
I was 13 when Woodstock happened August 1969.....that was the best time.

That iconic riff at 0:52. One of the essential sounds of the 90s, in my opinion. Evokes the image of busting out of the front doors on the last day of school, welcoming summer, trotting out as skateboarders whiz by....

Each with their own.
For me, the first STP records and Superunknown by Soundgarden are the best grunge records
Nirvana was to much Pistols
