I remember this song from 1993!! I was a junior at The Ohio State University!! There was a club called "Papa Joe's" where you could actually buy a 3 gallon bucket of budwiser beer!! And 10 cents chicken wings !!🍺 🐔
Anyhow, I remember they played the Hell out of this song!! ▶️ 🎶 🎵
I was really into rap heavy back in those days!! 🏋️‍♂️
But this rock song KICKED ASS!! And stuck with me!!
      🪨 🎸
I really didn't realize how awesome the "Stone Temple Pilots" band was, until over 30 year later!!!!!!
The The Powerful vocals of the late frontman Scott Weilland, absolutely BLEW ME AWAY!!!
      ROCK ON!!!!
      Hey Now!
Ohio State University Alumni and huge Stone Temple Pilots Fan!!

I still love and listen to the songs from 90's and they always bring my good memories back so clearly. LYRICS
    [Verse 1]
    Waiting on a Sunday afternoon
For what I've read between the lines
    Your lies
Feeling like a hand in rusted shame
So do you laugh or does it cry
    Reply?
    [Chorus]
    Leaving on a Southern train
    Only yesterday you lied
Promises of what I seemed to be
Only watched the time go by
All of these things you said to me
    [Verse 2]
Breathing is the hardest thing to do
With all I've said and all that's dead for
    You
    You lied
    Goodbye
    [Chorus]
    Leaving on a Southern train
    Only yesterday you lied
Promises of what I seemed to be
Only watched the time go by

They were slighted by snobby rock music critics from the get go. It seemed there was a faction in the business that much favored the darlings of Alternative Rock namely bands from the Seattle area. They were branded as Pearl Jam as well as Nirvana clones simply because some of their songs sounded a little grungy. Those people that think STP was trying to be a grunge band never listened to their albums. They took the word of some writer from Rolling Stone Magazine that they were posers as Scott was an Eddie Vedder wannabe. Anyone who thinks Scott and Eddie sound alike has a tin ear.

1995 - what a great year to be alive as a 19 years old. Modern rock was on its peak. I remember those rainy nights at 7E with now lost friends smoking and drinking beers while listening to STP, Smashing Pumpkins, Pearl Jam, Alice In Chains playing in a 90s portable mini compo.
Thanks to Scott who saved so many youths all over the world like me from becoming a criminal or psycho. Your music made us grounded and strong. 🙏

Without a doubt, the most underrated band of the “grunge/alternative” era. Maybe of all time. This song takes me back to childhood, 6th grade, to be exact. It was great having this sort of talent around. MTV was still rocking and playing great videos. No shortage of quality musicianship. At least we can revisit here on RUclips, right?

    Lyrics...
    Waiting on a Sunday afternoon
For what I've read between the lines
    Your lies
Feelin', like a hand in rusted shame
So do you laugh or does it cry
    Reply?
    Leavin' on a southern train
    Only yesterday you lied
Promises of what I seemed to be
Only watched the time go by
All of these things you've said to me
Breathing is the hardest thing to do
With all I've said and all that's dead for you
    You lied
    Goodbye
    Leavin' on a southern train

Can't separate the two. If he didn't have that highly mercurial element inside himself, & all that comes along with living in a world that does its best to crush everyone, while euphoria exists as an achievable escape from the drudge, however temporary & fraught with risk ... this song wouldn't exist. Some people are gifted with the ability to walk into the fire, come back out the other side & describe it to the rest of us, but fire does burn. He lived the way he chose to. The world is better for him having done so.
