This song takes me back to a time when the world seemed simpler, and the weight of life hadn't settled in so heavily. Each note is a poignant reminder of moments lost, of dreams that slipped through fingers like grains of sand. It's a melancholic symphony, an anthem for the broken-hearted souls who find solace in the haunting beauty of sorrow. I find myself drowning in the waves of nostalgia, clinging to the echoes of what once was, but can never be again.

Many singers of the 1990s had the gift of representing the pain of young people in an increasingly competitive and soulless society. They told teenagers that sometimes feeling bad is ok, that anger and pain were part of the human path. Unfortunately today, there are no such singers anymore, the money and this sick narcissism killed any creativity in music. This young generation, the selfie generation, is already doomed. I hope the next generation will be smarter and more rebellious.
To tell you the truth, there are still outcasts who are waiting for the day when their voices will be heard. Hang in there, cuz rock music will return.
Matt Moves Totally agree. There's always some asshole in these comments who talks about how rock music is doing "just fine", but man I couldn't disgaree more. Since the start of the 2010's it seems like there might be 3-4 albums the entire year I'll enjoy, and the last 2 years or so I'm lucky to find one new rock song I like every 3-4 months. I enjoy a wide array of rock styles, so bands like Tame Impala, Cage The Elephant, and Arctic monkeys, can go side by side with Mastodon and Queens of the stone age in my playlists. But I hate having to wait all year to only end up with 2-3 great rock albums. In the 90's you had entire ALBUMS worth of great material from everyone like Incubus, RHCP, Beck, Nirvana, STP, Green Day, Bush, Alice in Chains, Pantera, R.E.M, Weezer, Soundgarden, Rage against the machine, Oasis, Days of The New, Third Eye Blind, etc etc. These bands were releasing new music in the prime of their artistic abilities, side by side in the same calender year. The airwaves were full of songs by these bands, and other artists who had hits. There was never a dull moment, or lack of quality/diversity. There is definatly a stark contrast in the amount of quality rock being put out now, no doubt about it.

We peaked in the 90s people. Everything from that time forward is on the losing side of momentum we had as human beings. The most beautiful part of it all is that we all shared it together of you are reading this today... Look back and smile for joy is fleeting and increasingly rare..
Is crazy because we really didn’t understand how good it was. People weren’t so fake, we had hope, and people care about each other regardless of background. Not to mention the lack of worry. It’s like a literal dream now.
I was a rave dj from 95-2003. It was literally paradise on earth. People loved one another. Love was an actual thing people shared and felt between people. It wrapped you like a warm blanket.. Hate was not as prevalent in people's hearts. It was the closest we got to ending racism as we all tried to be better toward eachother. Music was amazing. People were attractive and unique and interesting. Conversation was real and people were MODEST. The idea of "influencer" was a disgusting idea and peoplelike that were seen as ego-maniacs and psychopaths.. You had to OWN knowlege as it was in YOUR MEMORY not in your POCKET.. Social media destroyed earth and we will see this after the third world war... Love your brothers and sisters as this dream is over before you realize it had begun...
Best chorus ever especially how they made like a double chorus. It was already very good and powerful with just the "take time with a wounded hand" part but once added with "I feel as the dawn it fades to gray", then that's just pure gold!
the chorus is the type of riff that is so good you learn it by ear after a single hearing and vibe to it completely in a trance music doesn't get better than this, the overlapping vocals did most of the impression here indeed. Great comment

That’s awesome dude, it’s honestly one of the best genres of rock out there, but it’s just such a shame it died out so fast like a good flame it went out twice as fast as a bad one, all because we lost Kurt Cobain, and Layne, so soon, to soon... but at least we can still enjoy the era when it reined supreme.
@@joshshrum2764 Most grunge sounds alot like Southern rock mixed with alternative anyways to me. Although when I looked it up it says Punk, and alternative, lol, it goes better with bands like Sixty watt Shaman, Alabama Thunderpussy. Not any punk band that I've ever heard. The internet doesn't even define grunge very well. There's plenty of good stuff out there still. Although losing any great singer, and band sucks. Plus in the old days things were so reliant on channels like Mtv, and Vh1, nowadays you dont even need radio stations, just plug your cell phone into the car stereo, and listen to whatever you want.
My 12-yr. Old grandson introduced me to Nirvana. I lost my mind. 😂 Then I discovered Soundgarden and lost my mind again. Been overdosing on Alice in Chains for awhile now cause ......Layne! 🥰. Having never listened to this version of the song (always listened on the original album) honestly this version genuinely gave me chills. It feels so much more personal and just real. Something about it, absolutely incredible.
Yeah the "think you're kinda neat..." part sounds detached and apathetic in the original, but in this version, it sounds so much more raw and visceral.
Can't express how much this song means to me, it helped me so much in my darkest of days, whenever I get sad I just listen to this song, and it never fails to console me, never fails to say that "you are not alone in this".Rip Scott.
The 90's gave us 4 of the best and most original vocalists in rock history: Layne Staley, Chris Cornell, Eddy Vedder and Scott Weiland. Let's never forget that Scott was one of the greatest.
you miss a lot of vocalists. 90s were times when there was like a burst of vocalists. yorke, cobain, chester, cornell, mark lanegan, weiland, vedder, staley, till lindemann, dolores, reznor, stipe, kiedis, anselmo and many more (i know some of these bands started late 80's but they got noticed in early 90's)
This song takes me back to high school. My brothers got this album and stumbled onto this song. Reminds me of days when nothing mattered but enjoying our youth and hanging out with each other. August 5th, 2021 I lost my younger brother "Bio" and then 4 months and 4 days later on December 9th, 2021 I lost my older brother "shush". This song brings back all our memories. I want all those days back. Then we thought we had our whole lives ahead of us. Now it's just my younger sister and I. The memories I have of us will be forever cherished.
there have been a few good bands both new and resurgences like Hum is working on an album for the first time since Downward is Heavenward, Soundgarden's back, and some of the newer ones like Black Rebel Motorcycle Club and Middle Class Rut are bad ass. But in general, yeah you are right.
this song makes me remember how reckless and care free I was in my youth, now I find myself buried under a ton of responsibilities that only help to breakdown my spirit and dim my hopes and dreams. as I go down this road, I look back and realize that I'm only a shadow of the person I used to be
To me, its how shame sounds. Its how my shame sounds. Its half hearted for me. I'll say "I promise I won't do this again." And then some time later I'll go an do it and feel like this. Half the man I used to be.
Alejandro Meza haha thats deep as fuck bro smoke a joint brother an just chill. Whos to say ur not on top of all ur shit an then all of a sudden u stroke out tomo. Gotta have a balance.
This song brings tears to my eyes, and reminds me of a deep, dark place I was in my life... at 28, still trying to get out of now. The chords are so brooding and melancholic... like listening to a cloudy day. I think this song is about addiction and how it transforms you into someone you don't want to look at in the mirror. It's sad that Scott was so extremely talented that he shared his gift with the world in the throes of his addiction, and ultimately lost his life to it. R.I.P. Scott
I suppose that's why she said "I think this song is about addiction..." That's just the way she personally interpreted it. Never did she make the statement that all melodic sad songs are about addiction.
Matthias Herman looked them up, knew immediatly they were a christian band. The music is ok, im an atheist so its not my style, i prefer harder stuff than them.
I remember when STP was doing the Core tour! They opened up for Megadeth! I had no idea who they were, cause I was there for Megadeth! Needless to say the majority of the people went down for this group! At first I wasn't either! I was like who's this skinny guy with florescent orange hair! Then they opened up with dead and bloated, as soon as their set was done ! I immediately went to the merchandise stand and bought an STP shirt and the rest was history for me!
This version always makes me cry at “Think you’re kind of neat, Then she tells me I’m a creep. Friends don’t mean a thing, Guess I’ll leave it up to me”
@@Redhawk-dy3nt probably because weiland wasn't satisfied with original recording most likely. It wouldn't make sense for the dean or Robert to say "hey let's record the vocals" it was most likely weiland's idea
I love the way Weiland sings : "Think you're kind of neat then she tells me I'm a creep/ Friends don't mean a thing guess I'll leave it up to me" differently in this music video than on the album. He better conveys much more emotional distress and hopelessness.
After "Sex Type Thing," you're not helping much. These lyrics sound kind of rapey too. And you think they're great. The only upside I see is that Weiland understood rape, since he was a victim of it.

I am struggling with life in general. I am inundated with unexpected debts thrown at me. I don't know how long I can hack things for. However, this song gives me strength. It may be 30 years old now but still in my hearts. Back in 2004, I was walking the streets of Lodz, Poland and I hadn't heard the song for ages. I'd had an awful day at work. Funny memories...
back in this era i was into cooper sabbath kiss metallica etc now its weird i have a nostalgia for 90s alternative

Livin' under house,
Guess I'm livin', I'm a mouse
All's I got is time,
Got no meanin', just a rhyme
Take time with a wounded hand,
'Cause it likes to heal
Take time with a wounded hand,
"Cause I like to steal
Take time with a wounded hand,

Well, I'm half the man I used to be,

Think I'll start a fire
Everybody run,
Bob has got a gun
Think you're kinda neat,
Then she tells me I'm a creep
Friends don't mean a thing,
Guess I'll leave it up to me
Take time with a wounded hand,
'Cause it likes to heal
Take time with a wounded hand,
"Cause I like to steal
Take time with a wounded hand,
'Cause it likes to heal
I like to steal

They don't make music like this anymore. The 90's where the best.
You missed the 70's. But the 90's made it ok to have the 80's. :)
Music from the 1990's is so underrated. The 90's gets a bad rap.
Beautiful words

Fire fire fire
Many singers of the 1990s had the gift of representing the pain of young people in an increasingly competitive and soulless society. They told teenagers that sometimes feeling bad is ok, that anger and pain were part of the human path. Unfortunately today, there are no such singers anymore, the money and this sick narcissism killed any creativity in music. This young generation, the selfie generation, is already doomed. I hope the next generation will be smarter and more rebellious.
yes
Matt Moves So True.
To tell you the truth, there are still outcasts who are waiting for the day when their voices will be heard. Hang in there, cuz rock music will return.
Matt Moves too much pain is never a good thing

Maybe if u listened to lucki idk man
Some would say that we peaked in the seventies, but you had a few high points
Thank you I’ve been saying this for years
Is crazy because we really didn’t understand how good it was.

@@joshshrum2764 I’m 15 and I’m the same also I agree, you’re right.
How are you not gonna mention Kurt. While your post still has merit…you gotta include Cobain
What about Kurt
you miss a lot of vocalists.
My vote is for Chris C, but I like all of those mentioned above. I'd add Richard Patrick (Filter) to the list.
This song takes me back to high school. My brothers got this album and stumbled onto this song. Reminds me of days when nothing mattered but enjoying our youth and hanging out with each other. Scott weiland was the best.
R.I.P. Scott
Are all melodic sad songs about addiction??!! Music is an art which means it is all in how the song is personally interpreted.
I suppose that's why she said "I think this song is about addiction..." That's just the way she personally interpreted it. Never did she make the statement that all melodic sad songs are about addiction.
+Doug Beard Alright. Thanks for the explanation.

Stone Temple Pilots (STP) IS in my personal top ten rock bands...of all time.
Top 2 for me
they rarely make songs this good anymore
Agreed my friend
+jonh smither Just curious, who is they?
+jonh smither look up Theocracy I think you may enjoy them :D As the World lies bleeding or Gift of Music are two great songs
Matthias Herman will do, thanks for the suggestion. I really enjoy avenged sevenfold, hail to the king reminds me of a classic metallica song
Only commenting because we have a similar screen name.
is that right, buddy...Tejano, Rap, R&B is what I was hearing at the time before Rock etc.
Bloody Farts
Exclamation points! Use them with discretion!
Ternaldius They're called exclamation points not explanation points. You're attempt at a joke failed completely!
This version always makes me cry at
“Think you’re kind of neat,
Then she tells me I’m a creep.
Friends don’t mean a thing,
Guess I’ll leave it up to me”
Which is why this version is considerably better than the other version (imo), in which his cadence never changes throughout that part.
@@normie2716 Any news on why this was rerecorded in the first place? That doesn't seem typical for music videos, especially of that era.
Its ok let's cry together
@@Redhawk-dy3nt probably because weiland wasn't satisfied with original recording most likely. It wouldn't make sense for the dean or Robert to say "hey let's record the vocals" it was most likely weiland's idea
Yes very relatable
Best song ever
One of the best songs of the 90's. No question.
We keep losing these super talented beautiful tortured souls...💔
so true
@Vlad The Lad calling people that have passed cowards just reflects back to your image..
@Vlad The Lad the only coward person here is you
"Friends don't mean a thing
Guess I'll leave it up to me..." spitting out facts!.
amazing how he makes the words "guess i'm leave it up to me" sound a lot like the word "gasoline"
@@katherynemero9355 Why in the fuckity fuck fuck would you search for their video, play it and leave a comment if you don't fucking like the song?
Truly pathetic.
Wash your hair or what's left of it and your ears might clean out too.
@@katherynemero9355 that song was anti-rape, it wasn't glorifying it...
Katheryne Mero didn’t ask
I noticed too and now i want this version to listen to.
One of my favs from the 90s. Scott was one of a kind. RIP, dude.
Rest in peace, and thanks for the years of amazing music. It was the soundtrack to my teens, our generation grew and lived through the perspectives of your writing and we still carry those memories with us because of the music you left behind.
Beautifully put. Mirroring my sentiments
Amen.
Roberts backing vocals are the best part of this song. Gives it another layer of depth.
how this song only has 11 million views is beyond me.
RIP Scott.
Elmo. Plaza. Sesamo
So many memories to this outstanding song! I loved the 90s so much, and this band was one of the reasons why.
I'm on my grunge trip again...
Ugh I kinda hate those some times
can we take pics fro my grunge account you seem cool as fuck digging the aesthetic
That’s me like everyday 😂
prashant singh chauhan same! 🌻
i thought grunge would be another phase of music in high school just like hip hop, reggae, edm, eurobeat, Spanish, but NOW IT'S A PART OF ME AND I graduated in 2018
I love when all the coments are from people who now have 40-45, and remembered that old 90s days, when everything used to be more simple. I'm 24, i was born in 2000 but i always feeled like all this people who lived this music in the 90s, i feel the same thing🫀
Hi Be Sure To checkout an indierock song and video entitled "Life Changes' by Robert Nix
I lived through the 90s, I was in my teens. Best music!
30yrs later and I'm still on this fucking sphere
Good for you man enjoy it while it lasts!
good job man lot of people out there didnt make it that long
2:08 when he starts to hit a little higher notes sends chills down my spine
I was so sad to find out that they didn’t add it in the audio versions
@@bigblg378 if you go on streaming services and look up the super deluxe version of Core, they have the MTV Unplugged version and he does it there, hope this helps!
For a Man his voice is Perfect...Talented always I never get tired of his voice...
My favorite part of the song
@@bigblg378 I found it in the super deluxe version of core, its called creep new version 2017 remaster
Anyone else feel a lot different hearing this in their 40s than they did as a teenager?
absolutely
Of course... 47 and jus go back in the music! A lot of these guys of the 90's were struggling mentally...
Guess I was a well, it's why it got me...
Absolutely
I'll come back and answer your question in 20 years
@@sillythygoose enjoy your youth, friend. Do wild shit.
Thanks to this song, I got through U.S. Coast Guard boot camp. After weeks of training. And no TV, radio, newspapers and my girlfriend broke up with me during camp.. at like 7 weeks they played us music as we worked out. This was the first song any of us heard. Bought the CD as soon as I graduated. "94""
Does anyone else notice this version is better than the other ones at 2:06 he really belts his voice out and it sounds so good an he doesn’t do it like that on any other recording of it so it’s hard for me to listen to the normal one I wish I could buy this version but I can’t 😔
Same here
That line has always been my favorite in this song
The MTV unplugged acoustic version
Can play it over and over.. so good.
Yeah this is a great take
This song invokes so much emotion in me. It was only a distant memory playing from a car radio riding around with my dad when I was a child. But then I was reintroduced to it by the first person I ever fell in love with. Listening to it now fills my heart with love then breaks it. Much love to this song ❤️ ❤️❤️
I played this on cassette while riding in my Dad's car. He bobbed his head to the rhythm and afterwards said "that's a bad tune!" Thanks for that memory STP.
21 and hearing this song never gets old. i hope all of you find the stop your all looking for.
Rip kurt
Rip layne
Rip Scott
Rip chriss
Rip chester...
And rest in the clouds mom, this was her favorite song, very nostalgic, and it instantly made me get stuck in my head again
I'm amazed Scott lived as long as he did
+Shanda862004 It''s...kind of true though. We're all distraught about this, but at the same time, his addiction got pretty out of control. You remember how many tours he had to cancel earlier this year?
+Tairy Greene I thought he would end the same way as Staley... I was right unfortunately. He lived 48 years of Rock N' Roll and drugs, a genius
That was my first thought when I heard he died today.
The 90’s grunge scene....if u lived it, congrats...Some of the greatest bands in history of rock...Never again will we see a grunge scene like we had in the 90’s
i mean i’m 18 but i like to think i vibe to all the same shit y’all did 😂😂
@@dannymcconnell162 Good!
The best music
I’m a 90’s kid and I LIVED for these bands!!
I'm a 50 something man but the 90s and this particular era had a massive inpact on my life. I still play this song a lot and recently found my 9 year old son listening to this (and Plush and Wicked Garden) on youtube and singing along.
I'm so glad it has sparked something in him like it did in me.
RIP Scott, your music will live on
This song will never die, 2021 and I feel like Iv heard it for the first time.

2023, wine, me and my old friend sorrow...
A legend no one can forget
I could listen to this all day...
Then I heard a Polish busker play this on the street and I cried. Moving tune.
Hi I Recommend an indie song called 'The Bond Villain' by Robert Nix
I Hope you are now in a better place financially! If not, then I hope things get better for you… rock on, you can handle everything that gets thrown your way! I believe in you 💪🏽
Fight my brother, fight! Never give up! Hug from Brazil
hey man, I hope things are going better now. Remember you can always just run away from the debts and start over some in other place. Like I said, hopefully things are better now.
Hell,I'm 63 and can see the genius in his music.
I'm TWICE the Age I USED to BEEEE...
Fact! Lol
Haha!
These a hairs on my head they fade to grey!!
nailed it.
... and I'm feeling so OLD!
He was such an amazing singer . RIP Scott love .
Nobody sticked around the Stone Temple Pilots. No expectations. They just remained, stubborn. Until they had all the era's best melodies...Under the radar.

They have a great catalogue but I’ve always felt this one was underrated. It’s held up really well over the years.
