This was my dad’s favorite song. I remember driving around with him and blaring this song. He passed away in 2007. RIP Pop, still blaring it
I used to drive around with my much younger sister blasting this shit! AWESOME!!! She loved it by the way!!
that’s the beauty of music my brother.
rip
literally have the same memory with my Dad, passed in 2017, Rest In Peace to your Pop 🙏
Dude, your pops had awesome taste! 👊
There's something about this era of music that just can't be replicated no matter how hard people try. I'm always going to be thankful that I was able to grow up as a kid listening to music that had heart and soul written in it. I'll miss those days...
This music just can't be made in this economy. People used to go out and buy tapes or CDs of bands that played some really cool concert and then everyone just passed the info to their friends and family. Now you try to search for a band on youtube and you get suggestions of more popular bands that just paid more for the ads.
If everything was treated as equal, people would be much more exposed to these classics and they would literally have billions of views.
@@adam145 I kind of like how records are making a comeback but holy crap they're overly priced as hell... I still buy CDs time to time sometimes those can be super cheap, I just find the sound to be better on CDs than digital, also I like having physical copies of things that I can actually hold, trade, and look at, the joy of music was having to go out, socialize and talk about music with others as you searched in the store for something, those days are gone sadly.
This reminds me of the late Joel Schumacher’s Batman films. Particularly Forever.
Our job is to keep this music alive by streaming it as often as possible and supporting the group 💜 We gotta educate the new generation on what real music is
Do the times make the people or do people make the times?
The Offspring forever

My brother used to listen to this song. I was a teenager then and I didn't even understand the lyrics. Now I listen and I understand, and I wonder if he did. I guess he also, like me, suffered from low self-esteem... He died suddenly at the age of 22. I went through a huge shock and depression, it took me years. But I learned one thing - the soul never dies! He is with me and protects me just like any older brother does... I just miss him, I always will... But I know that we'll be together again, someday! I just wanted to tell everyone who is suffering from the same loss - please, have faith! Please, have strength! Everything happens for a reason. Even when feeling lonely, we are NOT alone! And for everyone who has lost his self-esteem or didn't had any, or haven't heard how lovely and how loved he was or he is, please, I know it's hard, but try to build your self-esteem! Try to love yourself and to forgive yourself, not to judge yourself too hardly! You are special, you are unique, you are a precious soul in this world! You are loved and you will be loved! So, please don't lose your faith, don't lose hope! Hold your head up, smile and live! This is your life and you are the most important person in it! Sending love and peace to you all! 💗 I'm just sad now, because I miss him... but God has taken his angel back... 🥲
Rest in peace, my lovely! ❤ I didn't get to say goodbye to you...
I really needed this. My dad died Sunday night and I'm having a REALLY FUCKING HARD TIME. No one in my family has called to check on me, the funeral is Friday and I'm not ready to say goodbye 😢
@@TaraBoBara91 Hey man. I know it's your dad- But Try to listen to a Song by Nothing More Called "God Went North" It will probably shake your to your core but its should get you prepared. I'm Sorry for your loss.
@TaraBoBara91 He is (still) with you and he will be always! We say goodbye only to one part of the soul, but this soul has lived many lifes and will live in a new life again! And you two will meet again! Maybe in another life and surely in a dream! They come to us in our dreams, you'll see! Your family may forget about you, but your father never will! Be sure that he is still with you and he will soothe you and give you strength and peace of mind. He will protect you and he will always be there for you! Sometimes, as you cry (for him) you will see how suddenly your tears will turn dry and you suddenly stop crying! That is because they don't want us to be sad and to cry for them. So, don't cry... Go on the funeral, say goodbye, but be strong and know that as you're saying goodbye to his body, his soul stays next to you and hugs you, loves you and protects you! You will always be his little girl! Remember, true love never dies! 💖 Be strong, you can do this! It's hard, but you can go through it! If I could do it, so can you! We are stronger than we think! And your daddy is with you! He will give you strength, always! 💖 So, wipe off your tears, be thankful that you had him in your life (some are not so lucky) and please try to smile - smile for him! I'm sure he loves your smile! 🌞 I'm sending you a big, strong hug! You are not alone! I'm sending you love! 💕🙏
I’m so sorry man. I have an older brother who was heavily hooked on drugs and was expecting to get a call he was dead. Luckily he got arrested and got sober in jail. This is over ten years ago. Now he is a chef and making good money with benefits. I’m so sorry for your loss.

My favorite Offspring song ever . I use to play the Smash album on cassette on my walkman on my way to high school . I went crazy for this when it first came out . After all these years its still one of my favorite albums.
Back in 96-97, i was barely 8yo, riding a bike near my home, and i noticed a dirty cassette tape thrown away amidst some trash and overgrown grass in an abandoned campsite, labeled "best of...". No one was ever near it for ages, so i took it back home to see what it was. The first song was Self Esteem, and it changed my whole taste in music forever.
😊👌
That was MINE!!!😮
I love this story!!! ❤

I recall not even knowing what 'self-esteem' meant when I first heard this around 12 or so, and not having any inclination to find out. Just being bowled over by the blasting angst that I felt inside me, as in the song. Nearly 30 years later, as I adjust to life in a mental health institution, I come to realise how life-long the damage to self-esteem can be. The repression, the trauma, the self-doubt, the denial, the inability to be either 'normal' or 'different'. Just existing to beat yourself up. Thank you to bands like The Offspring, Green Day, The Smashing Pumpkins and the like. Old geezers now, like me 😉 but I live momentarily in the bygone memories of yours truly. A

One of the most memorable starts of a song- the dudes vocally la la’ing the central chorus riff of the song. Unforgettable.

The fact that this band can do a song as "stoopid" and "slacker" and goofy and F-it-all FUN as this one is, and then turn around and drop something as touching and profound as "Gone Away," speaks volumes about their chops. And in both cases, Volume is what's up.

"Self Esteem" wound up being the second single released from The Offspring's third studio album and caught on fire in 1995, charting in America and Europe.
MTV showed the video a lot of love and helped elevate the band to new heights of popularity.
The Offspring, with several other punk bands of the era, brought punk rock into the mainstream as nobody had quite done before... All due respect to The Ramones.

This will always hold a special spot in my childhood
This song literally never gets annoying or overplayed to me for some reason....... Every single time I crank my radio and stay on the same station.
The 90s best decade for music especially grunge and rock as well as few other genres, I'm so privileged to of been in my teens through out that decade.
What happened to grunge, New metal?
Me too I couldn’t imagine growing up in these times right now
Me too, I totally agree! Love your username btw✌️♥️🤘
At least you survived.... Lucky you!

@@WoodysOpinion101 80, 90 and first half 2000
after it just turn into hippie and hip hop
I turned 16 in 1990, so I never stopped listening to these great bands of my youth. I was here in 1994. I'm here in 2024. And I'll be here in 2074. 🤘
Unlikely
@sherpaderpa1 Yep, living 100 years in unlikely. However, it's called a figure of speech. I understand people on the spectrum like yourself take everything literally, though. But please try to have common sense if that's even possible.
I remember discovering offspring when I was in middle school around 2011 and I thought I was the coolest for it, it played on the radio and I turned it up and my mom sang the entire lyrics and that’s when I found out that is was my mom who was actually the coolest
Nothing like the 90s.. most real music ever written
Lol....
8Os 70s ====>>>
@@jaygo71 I'm with you. This later stuff is nasal and kind of repetitive...
There's no such thing as a particular period of time being the "most real music ever written." You need to listen to more music.
Point he’s implying is music from the 2000s and back was way different from the music today and he is true. Sure there are some people trying to still make music like this, however back then was the pinnacle.
Tron FACTS
'I may be dumb, but I'm not a dweeb' Always loved this song. Sad how fitting it is for my last relationship though.
At least you're exploring some cool new music
I read that as soon as it played on the video😂

90s baby, these types of songs bring me back to the real MTV days
I remember when this came out, I was 20, young and free and everything was so great!!! Here I am nearly 30 years on and everything is so depressing, I think I took my youth for granted but those days were so good that I have to relive them by coming back to this and feeling happy again.
Same here. I think most of us take our 20s for granted, myself included.
@@haggard21077 Good ol'days
I don't think you're the only one. Taking youth for granted
same here bro
Music is a time machine!
Born in 89. Yes, us little dudes in the late 90s in elementary school rocked the hell out to this too.
Alejandro Ocampo same!
These who are younger than the song too. 98 here
I was born in 92 in southern california, and as a kid my favorite band was the offspring. They played this a lot on kcal 96.7 and X103.9 . thumbs up if anyone knows those stations!! :D
I was born in 88 in Brazil. Offspring was always one of my fav. bands. I miss 90's...
Alejandro Ocampo 89 representing
This song just shows that women are not the only ones who can get abused in a relationship.
i don't think abuse is a gender thing.. it's an individual thing, it's not men vs women, it's abusive assholes vs the people they try to control
Yea... But people shouldn't need a music to know this. It's just plain obvious.
OK! job
Pretty sure NINs first 3 albums were related to the following:
1. Fucked up / Abusive relationship (Pretty Hate Machine)
2. The aftermath of said relationship (Broken)
3. The aftermath continued through drug abuse and other self-hatred (The Downward Spiral)
solve this problem: don't get into relationships!!! learn to be strong and independent.. I'm a delicate girl to an extent and an easy target for controlling men, I've been there a few times.. but the way I see it, no relationship no abuse. period.
Probably one of the best songs ever made.
I'm black and 34 I grew up listening too this song everyday after school.a rock classic......
You fight racism an yet you begin the sentence with im black like wtf
@@bigboner4605 what, when did he say that lmao
@Big Boner, you wouldn't say this kind of shit had he started with "I'm asian" just saying
@@bigboner4605 im alien and i love this song since i came to earth rock on baby
@@deujdeuj3345 I'm not existent and fucking loved this song since I wasn't here.
This song is painfully accurate/relatable
I really wish it were...
Almost positive this was the definitive song that steered me toward exploring punk in the 90s... Never looked back.
Vile23 me too...
same
Punk and grunge right ?
They were so huge in Belarus in the late 90s, I literally never met a person from here who doesn't know them
Growing up this was one of my uncle's favorite bands. He used to blast them all the time in his car. This was one of the songs I remember him playing non stop. He passed away not too long ago at 52 years old. Now every time I listen to these guys I think of him.
R.I.P. Uncle Brian
Dude I'm sorry for your loss RIP to your uncle
Keep rockin on uncle Brian
I just saw these guys last night and they sounded phenominal. Still rocking in 2021. They opened up with this song and it was a BANGER!!!
OMFG that is epic!
They’re still around?!
@@onlyone23km Of course they are, I was at that concert too.
@@crownefarious8436 this song should’ve been on the Batman Forever soundtrack.
How cool.
this makes me want to watch Malcolm in the middle while playing tony hawks pro skater on a ps1 and eating pizza hut
Ha, I was listening to this on a Walkman riding the school bus or playing Sega Genesis.
duuuude!!!
Tostinos pizza rolls
Malcolm Tony hawk and pizza rolls
That sounds really fun 😁
And I'd probably be playing SSX a snowboarding game kind of similar to that
Im 584 years old and this is real music not that corporate tik tok pop that kids these days listen to
