2023, and I've been a metal head since the 80's. Off the top of my head, I can't recall a set of instruments that are so haunting as this bass, guitar, and drums. The hair on my arms and the back of my neck stands right up with just the first few notes alone. Every time. Wow.

Lyrics : Last day of the rest of my life I wish I would've known 'Cause I didn't kiss my mama goodbye I didn't tell her that I loved her and how much I cared Or thank my pops for all the talks And all the wisdom he shared Unaware, I just did what I always do Every day, the same routine Before I skate off to school But who knew that this day wasn't like the rest Instead of taking a test I took two to the chest Call me blind, but I didn't see it coming Everybody was running But I couldn't hear nothing Except gun blasts, it happened so fast I don't really know this kid Though I sit by him in class Maybe this kid was reaching out for love Or maybe for a moment He forgot who he was Or maybe this kid just wanted to be hugged Whatever it was I know it's because Chorus : We are, we are the youth of the nation We are, we are youth of the nation We are, we are the youth of the nation We are, we are youth of the nation Little Suzy, she was only twelve She was given the world With every chance to excel Hang with the boys and hear the stories they tell She might act kind of proud But no respect for herself She finds love in all the wrong places The same situations Just different faces Changed up her pace since her daddy left her Too bad he never told her She deserved much better Johnny boy always played the fool He broke all the rules So you would think he was cool He was never really one of the guys No matter how hard he tried Often thought of suicide It's kind of hard when you ain't got no friends He put his life to an end They might remember him then You cross the line and there's no turning back Told the world how he felt With the sound of a gat Chorus : We are, we are the youth of the nation We are, we are youth of the nation We are, we are youth of the nation We are, we are youth of the nation Who's to blame for the lives that tragedies claim No matter what you say It don't take away the pain That I feel inside, I'm tired of all the lies Don't nobody know why It's the blind leading the blind I guess that's the way the story goes Will it ever make sense Somebody's got to know There's got to be more to life than this There's got to be more to everything I thought exists Chorus : We are, we are the youth of the nation We are, we are youth of the nation We are, we are the youth of the nation We are, we are youth of the nation We are, we are the youth of the nation We are, we are youth of the nation We are, we are the youth of the nation We are, we are youth of the nation The youth of the nation We are youth of the nation We are youth of the nation We are youth of the nation We are
This song came out the year I graduated high school. It still sounds amazing. The lyrics capture the rage of a generation of youth who were promised a lot and delivered very little.
As special as I am, I actually do try to tip toe what's appropriate or not. Like is there a kids bop version bc imagine a whole bunch of youngens playing musical chair to this 😭. & My teen legitimately has school shooting drills. Like wth in the world. Anyways, no real words but just hoping for the best. I came from this generation & now I work with kids. To me, most of em r babies. If they're not even in kindergarten age, yes! They're still babies. The rest r just youngens. Some of these bigger boys r like Pitts to me. Like idk how to calm you down but ur killing my leg. You're a big boy now! Plz behave "little man " & like not pretend I'm s.clause. I know I have excessive use of like but oh well, id . & I'll cringe about this in no time. But awww at little kids anyways.. They must be protected. Somexs they do make me think of how I used to work w/ the elderly bc like I done lost me a whole entire person. Heart drop. Also, no I didn't. It's just kids r so mini form, actually stuck by my leg, following me everywhere, I don't even see em somexs, lol. even being short myself. I just over look em, easily, quick to think they ran off somewhere. Whole time they're right beside me. Stick to an adult. _these ppl r gonna come after me 😭... Oh nvrmnd_ . At least if I hafta get them out of a burning building they're way easier to save.
If you’re 35-38 than this song takes you to a place and brings back so many memories. We’re still the youth of the nation my friends. Live long and prosper.
Yea it sucks..so werid how my fathers the one that introduced pod and alot alot of other music and the shit still applys on a whole nother level. Feels like shit just keeps marching on.
We all just wanna go to school in peace..and what we need the most rn is love and support. The kid who shot 19 people in Uvalde Texas yesterday was bullied a lot in his formative years...I ain't justifying what he did...but that kid needed serious medical attention and most importantly love and support of others.
This song came on the radio the moment I got off the phone with my sons school about my child experiencing fear in school over a bully. 23 years later and this song hit yet again, it hit when I was in High School. Our youth have voices and they need to know we hear them!!!!!
2021 and I'm approaching seventy-two years of existence, still listening at the edge... remembering the first time I heard this, thinking, how tragic. No sense of hope or true vision of a future for themselves or their peers. If You're reading this, you found a path through the crap and I congratulate you. Inspire the generations that are following you to know that life, in and of itself, is worth the pain and confusion of growing into adulthood. We were all there once, some more than others... it hurts less to know that you truly are not alone. Also, believe it or not...I'm a conservative. LOL...we aren't all poison.
Anyone still listening 2024 ??? I Introduced this song today to my 17 & 13 yr old sons. They love it just like their momma. ❤ The msg of this song is just as relevant today as it was then
I’m 53 and first heard this song in the movie Blue Crush. I loved it straight away. It’s sad that the message is even more relevant today instead of things improving.
I'm 52 and grew up in the 80s and nothing can beat that decade when it comes to music and lifestyle but I have to say that the early 2000s come pretty damn close. 1999, 2000, 2001, and 2002 were magic.
I was also in high school from 1999 - 2002 and you are correct. Some of the best music ever made is in that Era. This new stuff is crap compared to it. Even my 16 year old daughter agrees that 2000s music was way better than now.
@@clicheguevara5282 but honestly growing up without internet and social media was very very different, imagine spending weeks on weeks outside every day with friends. Experiencing adventures and getting to know people, because that's just what you do, without having fomo or feeling left off, because some other friend went to this secret or exclusive party or flew to somewhere. It was different. Still idolizing it and viewing it through a lens of nostalgia, but still. Some things where slower, easier and better.
I’m only 21 and I know of this song. Reading how many of you are 30+ warms my heart because it shows that you might’ve been going through tough times when this song came out, maybe on the verge of suicide. But seeing you say you’re here today means everything, and I am glad you wonderful people are still here 💙
46 here and in many ways I wish i was 76. The world is going to go through some serious shit in the next few decades and sometimes I envy those who have already departed from all this shit. I feel bad for the youth who have to live the rest of their lives under the thumb of the elite. At least I had some freedoms during the prime years of my life. I want to weep for the youth because no matter what the indoctrination box tells you, you'll never get to experience the lives that those of us my age and older got to. Your post tells me you are a thoughtful, respectful and intelligent young person and I wish you all the best in life! Peace be with you!
Man I was 16 when this dropped. Peak high school. Goddamn man jamming to stuff like this while hanging out with my best friends smokin pot on the rooftops not knowing those were the times I'd actually miss.
My story is different. For me, those days were rife with bullying, awkwardness, depression, anxiety, and insecurities. Music like this kept me alive. I owe my life to it.
I agree and somehow disagree. Since kinda every decades has the similar blatant music and genre since May 1968 to nowadays . Only difference in todays music as whatsoever is the boring choice of words means to not hurt a certain ethnicity. The same rhythm etc... This music style was so a common back in the 90's . I call it pre-puber generation music that are in their 16-25 years . The style is similar as to Eminem, The Prodigy, LaCuna Coil, The Chemical Brothers,...mix that with some electro music and a fake live like children are singing with it to make it more credible. Kinda another band from that era was similar "Alien At Farm" used a song from Michael Jackson their title and clip showed a monkey etc...
Absolutely. I don’t see a bunch of 30 some year olds coming back to listen to Lil Uzi saying “Oh yeah, those were the days.” Also, look at the subject this touches on? It’s more relevant today than ever before.
I was once almost Johnny Boy in high school. 3 years of relentless bullying almost pushed me over the edge. My heart goes out to everyone who feel like suicide. You are not alone! ❤
It reminds me a little of Johnny Boy from Twenty one pilots. Their lyrics are powerful. To everyone who is suicidal, please listen to Friend please and Truce by Twenty one pilots. Maybe it's not too much but it can help you even just a little. "Get up Johnny boy" Keep fighting!
Same. Music was one of the few things that brought me joy when I lost interest in everything else I loved. Sometimes the little bit of joy music brings you is what you need to keep going.

Adulthood is a myth. Humans never really grow past beyond their teenage-selfs that much. Especially in the emotional spectrum. It just adepts here and their.
@Demon Slayer Well, share some of that reality you seem to live in. Yes true, like i said, on a evolutional level we cognitively adept, but most so called Adults behaving like idiotic self-centred Douchebags their whole lifes. My Neighbours (in their 30's) are a prime Example, this very nanosecond, as their shitty daily Routine. And don't start me on their psychotic Child they have raised and have to answer for. You really don't want to experience these assholes, ON A DAILY Base, believe me. @galaxycrearions in my early 40s. Haven't heard this song in forever. Just found out they are opening for Jinjer, which I'm sitting in the parking lot in Greensboro NC about to go in and see.
Quite touching. I'm 34 and still shivering when the sad lyrics come up. I wish they'd done a video attached to lyrics, kinda similar to Pearl Jam 'Jeremy'. But this still has an impact if you listen.
The sad reality is, that every year, regardless of generation, we still are the youth of the nation. School shootings, misguided youth, depression leading to suicide, and much more. More than a song, this has become an anthem for the lost, and misunderstood youth.
i don't think it's "misunderstood" -- i think it's far worse: neglected and undermined. we've allowed ourselves to be persuaded that we're merely accidental survival engines in a purposeless world with no foundation for moral values, no strong connection to the divine, and nothing beyond the "right now" to incentivize our choices. the Boomers started it, the Xers endured it, the Millennials became its apotheosis, and the Zeds and Alphas are discovering just how horrid those ideas are, and are searching for answers in a world that no longer agrees that any such exist . . . . how can it be surprising that so many horrors occur in a society that believes its own cultural heritage is a scam?
This is a very powerful song. The part where the youth join in and sing gives me chills. Yet, the song remains unfinished. Problems were stated, but no solution given, no hope offered. "Will it ever make sense? Somebody's got to know. There's got to be more to life than this." As a Christian band, POD knows the answer to these questions, Jesus Christ. He is the way, the truth, and the life. He is our only hope. He alone gives life purpose and meaning. Sadly, POD did not offer Him to their listeners as the answer in this song. We need one more verse to make the song complete.
My father introduced me to this song, he says it's what he used to listen to around my age. When I really paid attention to the lyrics, I got a little emotional, because it describes exactly how I've been feeling lately abt everything. Love this song ❤️

@@JeriDro It's one of my favorites. There's so much to take out of that first chapter... It's more than just nothing new under the sun! Everything repeats according to its circuits. Everything is in motion as nothing is still. All is vanity. History repeats itself. The more one gains in the pursuit of wisdom and knowledge, it's a vexation of spirit where grief and sorrow will follow. I'm not that young and I'm not that old. I'm 41 yet I feel like I'm an old soul... should of been born at least 20-30 years earlier, the music in the mid to late 50s, all through the 60s and into the mid 70s was, well still is the best era of music, especially the 60s. Yet at the same time, I tend to be a kid at heart. I can completely relate with Solomon's words! I'm always trying to learn something new that I haven't learned yet, or even relearn something just to refresh my memory... The older you get and the more you take in, it can take a toll on your mind, your responses become slower, you can tend to forget simple things easier. There are many out there such as my father, he struggles with Alzheimer's. He knows who he is and who we are and all, but his short term memory is just about shot. He can tell you stuff from the late 40s and early 50s... but he can't remember what he said or did 20 minutes ago, or where he put his keys... Yeah it's tough! And to think there are some who don't even recognize or know themselves nor their loved ones...
teach everyone around you that human life matters, and should be respected as much as possible. this song is *heavily* Christian in its origins and content, and pulling that faith out of its foundational message is a mistake -- something to bear in mind. bottom line: this isn't about laws, it's about culture. and coming back from times like these isn't a quick process. to borrow from something RFK, Jr. said in his campaign suspension speech (paraphrased, but close): "The only thing that will save our country -- *and* our children -- , is if we choose to love our children more than we hate each other."
I feel like POD was never taken seriously back in the 2000s. But reading the lyrics now it’s a pretty deep and legit song. I hear it playing on the radio a lot nowadays, I guess their music is making a comeback
sometimes songs are beyond their years. i remember when this song came out and felt that some songs just give you the impression that it would be something felt in 20 years time, and even though i was a teen then , i feel this song has more of an impact now after watching my teen daughter go through school and see how her peers family life and school experiences have gone for them. When this song came out, it wasnt known much about domestic violence, homeless teens that choose that life because home was too shit, drugs, violence, turbulent school life, psychology and medication, suicides. Like my teen years were very naive. my daughters and her friends were not so much.
Yeah its crazy, this song was released on Christmas 2001 so it was made 2 years after columbine, 4 years before Red Lake, 6 before V-Tech, 11 before Sandy Hook and a whopping 17 before Parkland and Santa Fe. Crazy when you put that into perspective
The wisdom in their music comes from their faith..POD started off as a Christian band after all, just like Evanescence..the faithless musicians like 6ix9ine and all these days only care about beats rather than lyrics which can heal lost souls..
@Dragon Of Dojima P.O.D is a Christian metal band and while the lyrics for this one is not overly obvious in terms of the Christian underlying theme.. its still there if you know what to look for. They're talking about the 'youths of the nations'.. who still face being killed at school by fellow classmates. Still seeks love in the wrong way (as in becomes sexually active at a far too early age). Still choose to kill themselves. Still makes choices that destroys their lives. And many still question the point and the reasons and more. 'Who's to blame for the lives that tragedies claim No matter what you say It don't take away the pain That I feel inside, I'm tired of all the lies Don't nobody know why It's the blind leading the blind I guess that's the way the story goes Will it ever make sense Somebody's got to know There's got to be more to life than this There's got to be more to everything I thought exists We are, We are, the youth of the nation' en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Youth_of_the_Nation

Just turned 30. Still a rockerboy at heart. Sad to say that a lot of what we struggled though is still causing modern day teenagers so much grief.
The youth need Christ, homie. P.O.D. tried showing us the way, but a LOT of us were too young and in our own world to understand.

Lyrics :
Last day of the rest of my life
I wish I would've known
'Cause I didn't kiss my mama goodbye
I didn't tell her that I loved her and how much I cared
Or thank my pops for all the talks
And all the wisdom he shared
Unaware, I just did what I always do
Every day, the same routine
Before I skate off to school
But who knew that this day wasn't like the rest
Instead of taking a test
I took two to the chest
Call me blind, but I didn't see it coming
Everybody was running
But I couldn't hear nothing
Except gun blasts, it happened so fast
I don't really know this kid
Though I sit by him in class
Maybe this kid was reaching out for love
Or maybe for a moment
He forgot who he was
Or maybe this kid just wanted to be hugged
Whatever it was
I know it's because
Chorus :
We are, we are the youth of the nation
We are, we are youth of the nation
We are, we are the youth of the nation
We are, we are youth of the nation
Little Suzy, she was only twelve
She was given the world
With every chance to excel
Hang with the boys and hear the stories they tell
She might act kind of proud
But no respect for herself
She finds love in all the wrong places
The same situations
Just different faces
Changed up her pace since her daddy left her
Too bad he never told her
She deserved much better
Johnny boy always played the fool
He broke all the rules
So you would think he was cool
He was never really one of the guys
No matter how hard he tried
Often thought of suicide
It's kind of hard when you ain't got no friends
He put his life to an end
They might remember him then
You cross the line and there's no turning back
Told the world how he felt
With the sound of a gat
Chorus :
We are, we are the youth of the nation
We are, we are youth of the nation
We are, we are youth of the nation
We are, we are youth of the nation
Who's to blame for the lives that tragedies claim
No matter what you say
It don't take away the pain
That I feel inside, I'm tired of all the lies
Don't nobody know why
It's the blind leading the blind
I guess that's the way the story goes
Will it ever make sense
Somebody's got to know
There's got to be more to life than this
There's got to be more to everything
I thought exists
Chorus :
We are, we are the youth of the nation
We are, we are youth of the nation
We are, we are the youth of the nation
We are, we are youth of the nation
We are, we are the youth of the nation
We are, we are youth of the nation
We are, we are the youth of the nation
We are, we are youth of the nation
The youth of the nation
We are youth of the nation
We are youth of the nation
We are youth of the nation
We are

@@twobros711 hello fellow league fan. We meet in strange places. Gl to CLG this upcoming year.
This song came out the year I graduated high school. It still sounds amazing. The lyrics capture the rage of a generation of youth who were promised a lot and delivered very little.

"Teach the next generation"
Good joke there, fellow sir.
Facts man 💯
As special as I am, I actually do try to tip toe what's appropriate or not.

Late 90's, early 00's. Some of the best music to represent a childhood, everlasting memory and constant feeling of nostalgia.
Defo!!
Miss those days
Best song ever
Absolutely. I don’t see a bunch of 30 some year olds coming back to listen to Lil Uzi saying “Oh yeah, those were the days.”
Also, look at the subject this touches on? It’s more relevant today than ever before.
I was once almost Johnny Boy in high school. 3 years of relentless bullying almost pushed me over the edge. My heart goes out to everyone who feel like suicide. You are not alone! ❤
Same here. Just like Linkin Park, P.O.D. saved a generation of youth.
Not all life has value...just ask me LOL.
Same. Music was one of the few things that brought me joy when I lost interest in everything else I loved. Sometimes the little bit of joy music brings you is what you need to keep going.
I want to but I don’t have a gun yet, a person I thought was my friend told me to commit suicide as a joke, and it’s not much of a joke to me

Adulthood is a myth. Humans never really grow past beyond their teenage-selfs that much. Especially in the emotional spectrum. It just adepts here and their.
@Demon Slayer Well, share some of that reality you seem to live in. Yes true, like i said, on a evolutional level we cognitively adept, but most so called Adults behaving like idiotic self-centred Douchebags their whole lifes. i don't think it's "misunderstood" -- i think it's far worse: neglected and undermined.
we've allowed ourselves to be persuaded that we're merely accidental survival engines in a purposeless world with no foundation for moral values, no strong connection to the divine, and nothing beyond the "right now" to incentivize our choices. the Boomers started it, the Xers endured it, the Millennials became its apotheosis, and the Zeds and Alphas are discovering just how horrid those ideas are, and are searching for answers in a world that no longer agrees that any such exist . . . .
how can it be surprising that so many horrors occur in a society that believes its own cultural heritage is a scam?
The drums to this sends chills down my spine everytime.

This song goes as a battle cry for that generation. Masterpiece!

Or on the wrong track if society can still relate to lyrcs like this
it was like that 20 years before this song and 20 years before then and so on.
there is nothing new under the sun
@@JeriDro Ecc 1! :) Nice!
@@skilz8098 thanks for the scripture, I forgot which one it was
@@JeriDro It's one of my favorites.
Sitting here at 67 with tears running down my cheeks. Something has to change. :(
teach everyone around you that human life matters, and should be respected as much as possible. this song is *heavily* Christian in its origins and content, and pulling that faith out of its foundational message is a mistake -- something to bear in mind.
bottom line: this isn't about laws, it's about culture. and coming back from times like these isn't a quick process.
to borrow from something RFK, Jr. said in his campaign suspension speech (paraphrased, but close):
"The only thing that will save our country -- *and* our children -- , is if we choose to love our children more than we hate each other."
But praise to the most high for saving lost souls who have been through things like this🙌✝️
Yeah its crazy, this song was released on Christmas 2001 so it was made 2 years after columbine, 4 years before Red Lake, 6 before V-Tech, 11 before Sandy Hook and a whopping 17 before Parkland and Santa Fe.
Crazy when you put that into perspective
P.OD is the ultimate PMA band
If you look at the pictures behind them, you'll see they're all of victims of school shootings like columbine.
I get chills each and every time I hear this song.
+Susan Murtha , yeah me too . . .
Susan Murtha word.
Whether It's 1999, 2009, or 2019 this song is still amazingly and scarily relevant. Don't let another decade go by where this song is still relevant.
well said
Unfortunately it still is how it is
Problem is ... this song is from 2001
With the way this world is spiraling toward it's own destruction I'd say this song will stay relevant until the world comes to an end.
But it's such a good song. If it's not relevant people will forget it
Anyone here September 2024??
I came back to say yes 🤟🏻
Yes 🥰❤️🔥
Look at the date i posted that comment - it was 13 days ago in august -😂 gottacha
Lol
👋
35 now but this song still sends chills down my spine like when I was 16..not many songs can do that....deep track.
The wisdom in their music comes from their faith..POD started off as a Christian band after all, just like Evanescence..the faithless musicians like 6ix9ine and all these days only care about beats rather than lyrics which can heal lost souls..
YOU'RE RIGHT MAN!!!!!!!!!
I actually got teared up... No homo. ✌️
Years later...this song is still revelant and the message it was trying to address.
@Dragon Of Dojima unbelievable that you dont understand the message
@Dragon Of Dojima P.O.D is a Christian metal band and while the lyrics for this one is not overly obvious in terms of the Christian underlying theme.. its still there if you know what to look for. They're talking about the 'youths of the nations'.. who still face being killed at school by fellow classmates. Still seeks love in the wrong way (as in becomes sexually active at a far too early age). Still choose to kill themselves. Still makes choices that destroys their lives. And many still question the point and the reasons and more.
'Who's to blame for the lives that tragedies claim
No matter what you say
It don't take away the pain
That I feel inside, I'm tired of all the lies
Don't nobody know why
It's the blind leading the blind
I guess that's the way the story goes
Will it ever make sense
Somebody's got to know
There's got to be more to life than this
There's got to be more to everything
I thought exists
We are, We are, the youth of the nation'

@@JoseMunoz-dg1gv troll profile, his profile pic is alt-right white supremacist terrorist Brendon Tarrant of the Christchurch Mosque shootings. Along with the Dragon of Dojima title, not good
@Dragon Of Dojima there's more than one meaning of troll, guy. Your profile pic is in incredibly poor taste, no one is going to take you seriously. Also how do you know about youth before the 50's, because the internet told you?
@Dragon Of Dojima I'm not a kid, mate. Your profile photo and name is even more pathetic and trollworthy if you are an adult.
You've got a really fuzzy memory, not that it matters. You need help!
I had this song stuck in my head, so had to come listen to it.
It's a good song to have in your head;))
+RandomBubbles true that
it can do that
Same situation famo
me too
I can't believe so many people were looking for this song like moths to a flame for so long. I was once in the same boat as they were but I lucked out and found the CD long before RUclips, Spotify or Pandora. Kudos to you who finally found this song playing in your head.
I credit this song for saving my life in High School. It’s my 32nd birthday today, not sure if it was worth saving, but here I am. Thanks POD, you’ll not see this comment, but you got me through so much.
Amen glad ur still here
Every life is worth saving...every life has value....u matter more than u know
You matter, dude. Glad you're here and that you made it out of that hard period. You're a real survivor.
You matter.
I’ve read the message and I’m glad that you are alive and well my friend. Everyone in the comment section are strangers to you. But we genuinely care for your well being and your life matters 🙏🏾 we are all so proud of you my friend we all support you always and forever
