Tiny Music is incredible, always been my favourite, though No. 4 is pretty close too. they were against the grain at the time with the small amp sound, big beefy compressed guitars were the order of the day in the 90s and STP were just doing what bands like the Strokes would hit big with a few years later.

@@someperson8151 that's what I like most, after the trebly and raspy Tiny Music, No 4 hit perfect, mean and muddy rock with loads of great janky treble-heavy sections by guitar and cymbals esp. if the sound doesn't do anything for you, that's totally fair, but it was defo a choice by the producer rather than incompetence. also, even if it were the one STP record to be teabagged throughout by Robert DeLeo, I'd be fine with that.

I agree about them being unappreciated, to a degree. But they were massively rated at the time as a leading force and also with the bands they were compared to and "up against" they were actually up against bands that were already becoming legends.
The standards were so high at this time in music history. There were really no bad bands until the grunge imitators came along

    • @wuddupnoah
      @wuddupnoah 8 месяцев назад +4

It was always my impressions that STP got a lot of undeserved hate, mostly bc they blew up fast and in some ways contributed to the saturation of Grunge, just like youre saying about the imitators. A lot of people viewed them as just riding the wave, but like compare this song to Sex Type Thing. Incredibly diverse band and Weiland especially is an underrated songwriter and vocalist on his own. Songs like Interstate Love Song and Plush just get so much play on rock radio to this day, which i personally have no problem with, but even their most popular album, Core is a very cohesive yet off-kilter at times. I used to dislike this album, but nowadays, To me, this is STPs best album, maybe tied with purple. The guitar tones coupled with the rhythms and scotts totally different vocal style were really pushing sound boundries. 'And so I Know', 'ride the cliche', 'Adhesive', and 'seven caged tigers' were amazing departures from STPs (and the eras) previous sound.
I love core, but its a yarling hard rock grunge album and less interesting than anything they did up to shangri la dee da imo.

    Lyrics
    I got a picture of a photograph
Of a wedding and a shell
    It's just a burning
    Ancient memory
    I never kiss and tell
So turn it up and burn it
There's a hole in your head
There's a hole in your head
    Where the birds
    Can't sing along
    Does anybody know
    How the story really goes?
    How the story really goes
    Or do we all
    Just hum along
    Sell your soul and
    Sign an autograph
    Big bang baby,
    It's a crash,
    Crash,
    Crash
    I wanna cry,
    But I gotta laugh
    Orange crush mama
    Is a laugh,
    Laugh,
    Laugh
    Spin me up,
    Spin me,
    Spin me out
    Station to station
    Send me up and out
    Is this what life and
    Love is all about
    I think I think so
We used to see in color
    Now
    It's only black and white
    Yeah,
    It's only black and white
    Cause the world
    Is color blind
    Does anybody know
    How the story really goes?
    How the story really goes
    Or do we all
    Just hum along
    Sell your soul and

    Big bang baby,
    It's a crash,
    Crash,
    Crash
    I wanna cry,
    But I gotta laugh
    Orange crush mama
    Is a laugh,
    Laugh,
    Laugh
    Nothing's for free
    Nothing's for free
    Take it away boys
    Nothing's for free
    Nothing's for free
    Take it away boys
So turn it up and burn it
There's a hole in your head
There's a hole in your head
    Where the birds

We got a different Scott Weiland with every song he sang, this particular one shows my favorite version of him, handsome & healthy, before the heroin made him gaunt & almost reptilian, still sexy though & a voice that never once wavered despite his offstage habits. To me, he was the closest person performing that I could compare to Bowie, in the sense that both were always evolving into another facet, another side of their personalities. The ability to be an amazing performer like they both were, was to put aside the inhibition that we naturally come up against when expected to say or do something with a crowd watching. They, like other rock stars, are born of something entirely different, as if the ability to feed off the audience drives the mind-blowing performance that people showed up to see. Scott Weiland was incredibly handsome, sang powerfully, had that special something, a charisma required to operate on the level that he did. Others we know to be similar, besides prior mention of David Bowie, include Robert Plant, Roger Daltrey, David Lee Roth, Bon Scott, Marc Bolin, plus so many more. He was incredibly talented, but also addicted, troubled & died too young @ only 48, a father who left small children behind. He will forever be remembered as the rock star with a megaphone, one of the few I can recall who used one onstage while performing. Rest easy, wherever it is we go when its time, may your music always remain.
