I’m so sad Reggie drowned RIP. I will say the way that the Mauraders fans have reclaimed the original series, found a niche, and made it their own is fantastic. It’s a really cool look at collective storytelling, people riffing off of each other to create somewhat of a “canon” even if you have differences spread throughout. It’s very cool.

Being an OG marauders era fan is especially painful these days, because the characterisations and even appearances are so ooc, and many new fans call things canon that aren’t and go around and “correcting” people😭 RIP RAB
People either should fully stick with the canon (something I personally find very boring), or accept that the marauders is a fanspace where everything is fanon, everything is made up. Even if there are popular headcanons, that doesn't mean that they're the 'right' ones. People can interpret characters however they like. I think, due some of the fans being younger, it's more common to aggressively disagree with somebody and claim they are all sorts of things for interpreting a character or relationship a certain type of way, rather than sitting back and letting people have their own opinions. But this issue isn't only in the marauders fandom, it's in every big active internet fandom you can find. Infighting is chaos haha.

I just hate how out of character they make the marauders😭 they make them flawless, very shallow, they can not do any wrong in their eyes….. they literally take away any dept, an smallest shade of grey. It makes it kinda boring in my eyes, obviously I’m still in the marauders fandom but it’s really hard for me since I disagree with so many stupid headcanons. And don’t get me started on the selective babygirl-ification of some of the characters……
Don’t get me wrong I love a lot of the content on archive, but the characterisation of Barty crouch feels shallow. He is not a good person but people act as though he is justified in his actions, and can do no wrong. Same with Snape, yet in the opposite sense. Snape is not a good guy, like we see in the movies. But he’s also not a bad guy. He was bullied by James, and while he made a lot of mistakes in his life, it strikes me as odd when people say that he deserved to be bullied. It feels like there isn’t really a place for grey in the fanbase, especially when it is a character not a part of the main cast.
@@SubtextiedI think a lot of people want to portray Barry as sympathetic because his Dad is implied in canon to have been abusive (if I am remembering Goblet of Fire correctly, it’s been an number of years since I’ve read it). Personally, I think the Regulus, Barty, Evan trio are done the best when you acknowledge the fact that they’re not what you should consider good (albeit Regulus did redeem himself with his death). But on the flip side, they’re also all kids raised and radicalized in a toxic environment.

Fair enough, but yeah shipping is an integral part of most fandoms, especially those with a female-heavy audience. You don't see the volume of fanfic in Star Wars fan spaces compared to HP (though a lot of Star Wars fanfic definitely exists, and strangely, a lot of them seem to be fan comics). Something about HP really reached out to female and gay audiences, which usually creates a large amount of popular queer 'ships' and a lot of romance-heavy fanfiction. Whilst fandoms with a male-heavy audience tend to be centred around collecting figures, comics and power-levelling. Most fanfics in those male-dominated communities usually aren't focused on shipping as much. When it is, usually the ships are straight or canon. Edit: Shipping is a massive part of fandom, but not the original material (usually). My video was not really discussing the books, as they really have minimal bearing on this particular fan space (people like to throw canon out the window, especially with the marauders, as some characters are quite literally mentioned once within the original books). This video was about fandom communities and everything I discussed is a massive part of those spaces.
