Yeah! Sirius’s perspective is even better (in my opinion). Much more details. Especially towards the end. The questions you have right now are going te be answered in his perspective. And the author of the sirius’s perspective is such a good writer!
Ferox scenes got me giggling and kicking my feet fr bc it's such a shaping moment to have a crush on a teacher and we never got that in HP (except for Hermione and Lockhart). I loved all of the original characters in this. Even the evil ones like Lidia were very well written. But ofc GRANT is the highlight, the sunshine, my son. There's a 2 chapter epilogue showing his life after Remus death and it made me so happy for him. I also wanted a lot more from the ending, like what was it like when Sirius got locked in the house he was abused as a child (after YEARS in Azkaban), while Remus had to go back to werewolf missions under Dumbledore orders. Oooof the heartbreak 😢 but I guess the author wanted to be done with this fic. I can only imagine how much time it took her.

I found ATYD during covid after just finishing Harry Potter for the first time 3 months before and i can honestly say ATYD is the best stroy i have ever encountered, be it books or movies i have watched in my life. I love this story so much i got a tattoo dedicated to it and its not even an official cannon book

You should read the Sirius POv! It is from another author but is amazingly written and almost feels like another fanfic, You would be heartbroken since the start with the Black Family dynamics.

the thing about peter being in Griffindor is that it shows that bravery isn't always a good thing and that smth that is determined about you at 11 isn't going to be right. Regulus is a good guy in the end truly. It’s cannon in Harry Potter that he is a good guy. However, if you want to see more Regulus and also feel completely emotionally destroyed like with ATYD, Read Art Heist Baby or Crimson Rivers or if you want something more heart warming, read Just Lovers
I would recommend to read “Choices” first. Because I feel like, if you’re new to a Marauders’ character’s story (especially one like Regulus), you should start with a more canon compliant fic. If you read Choices first and only then Crimson Rivers, than CR just hurts even more because you know the characters already (through the “original” version of their story), and also, you have actually already seen the universe in which they are, in fact, a great, big tragedy (in the most extreme way ever).
I found atyd way too late, but I finished reading it a day ago and holy shit. I'm well out of my harry potter phase but this fanfic made me wish that I could relive reading it over and over and over again. Atyd decided my emotional state for that week and im currently reading the sirius pov so guess what my emotion are like right now haha....
If you're taking recommendations I'd love to see you read Crimson Rivers. For me it was on the same level if not better/more emotionally gruelling than ATYD. Its long but beautifully descriptively written with of course a lot of sad moments but there's surprisingly many funny and lighthearted scenes in between.
This was great. I’m new to your videos but I’m going to assume this was your by-and-large introduction to marauders fanon. It was mine too (although I was already aware of wolfstar, and seeing you realize real-time what the ship is was hilarious). I just finished my first full reread of ATYD since I first read it in 2020 and I can definitely say that its nostalgia element does not fade. I understand your desire for a more cohesive and drawn-out ending, but I think it was mostly to do with MsKingBean’s reluctance to do any canon rewrites (which, as you said, is still a different POV, but in fanfiction terms a “canon rewrite” is just any canonical scene written over again from any POV). I think reading the Christmas tapes, Out of the Blue, etc, will give you a better sense of closure. Either way, this was a super entertaining reaction video! I’m glad you liked the fic.
You should read “choices” by Messermoon. Your reaction to Regulus broke my heart!!! For me, ATYD and Choices are the two canon compliant fics that are the base for every other story with these characters. These fics, together, introduce to you the characters and events of the Marauders’ era in the best way, and only once you read these two you can start to move to au’s (my recommendation is Crimson Rivers!!!). Hope you enjoy your time inside the emotional rollercoaster that is the Marauders fandom!!🤭🤭🤭
What you said at the beginning about Peter wrongly chosen to be in Gryffindor makes me laugh cause all the House traits are neutral, and by betraying his best friends and sending them to their deaths and switching sides was the boldest thing Peter Pettigrew ever did.

You could use a palate cleanser after this heavy emotional rollercoaster… I would highly recommend Draco Malfoy and the Mortifying Ordeal of Being in Love. Excellent immersive writing like ATYD and Manacled, but instead of going to the rope store you’ll just be beaming. It’s a fun, romantic, action-packed adventure. Thank you for documenting your journey, that was so fun to watch and remember how I felt reading ATYD!
You need to read the epilogue!! The author wrote it later... “Out of the Blue” it's named and it happens 20 years later from Grant's perspective 😭 that chapter will break you, crush you and heal you all at the same time 😭🤌🏻
Atyd is truly remarkable but I think because it's canon compliant the ending just doesn't work for me? Like remus and sirius are tragic figures in Harry's story but their own story in atyd isn't a tragedy on like a genre level its a coming of age story and a war story and those don't usually have tragic endings I guess
I was so mad at the ending of AtYD, because I don't think Remus makes sense the way he was written for all that previous work. Like, *that* Remus would move mountains, tear himself apart to get to Sirius in Azkaban. There's no way he thinks Sirius did it on purpose, even if he thinks he's the one that gave up the secret. I know she set it up with young Remus hiding from his problems, I just don't think he'd hide for THIRTEEN YEARS with no follow-up. The ending was rushed and I don't think fit with the characters she wrote, but the rest was such gold, it can be forgiven.

I absolutly loved your reaction! I like how you kept it real and just captured your emotions in the moment. Pls more of this! It reminded me of myself and my emotions when I read it for the first time and I want to recommend some fanfics to you, that I think you'd like. 1. Choises by Messermoon. I recommend this ff for two reasons. Number one: It's sunseeker/starchaser wich is regulus and james (as are all of my recommendations). You're reaction to Regulus in ATYD is justefied and he really isnt a likebel charakter, but he is loved by the fandom none the less and this will explain the hype around him. I would also recommend reading about the Black brothers relationship. The realationship great and heart breaking just like Choises. Onto reason number two: Its also canon complaient and has this detailed ending ATYD is missing. Be warned tho. This is from the perspective of Regulus and his story is one of the saddest I've ever heard of. His story is worth reading and it is a great use of your time 2. just lovers (like we are supposed to be) by Bizarrstars. Its also Sunseeker/Starchaser. Again from the perspective of Regulus but canon divergent. Very little angst, happy ending and just one of the best ff's out there in termes of romance and relationship. It also is a well deserved break from all the misery thhat is the marauders. Its so great, I can not recommend it enough. 3. Art heist, Baby by otrtbs. Sunseeker/Starchaser again. Does not take place in Hogwarts or has magic at all. But it has an art heist and everything else you could wish for. Even Wolfstar chapters! I think this is a really good take on the black brothers relationship and very easily compared to the canon events. This is my seconde favorit, but again I have to warn you: This has MCD main charakter death and is a bit sad. (Does have a happy ending tho) I really hope you read these bc they are worth every second of your time and you wong regret reading them ever. Pls give Starchaser a chance! (My favorit is Crimson Rivers, but its already all over your coment section I'm not gonna mention it here)😊

Some of my favorite marauders fics I would love for you to react to: Obv atyd Sirius' pov The hand that feeds: A dorlene (Dorcas and Marlene) focused fic throughout seventh year and the war, it's enemies to lovers, filled with plottwists, and surpassed atyd as my fave marauders fic. Right now a fic is being written from Grants pov, but it's not finished yet (he hasn't even met Remus yet so it feels like an entirely different story), I would recommend waiting until it's finished, but that might take ages: It's called When a blind man cries.

I feel you so much about the ending. I actually took a break like when there was maybe 20% of the book left because i thought it would be too much emotionally and then it was just not. It was like really good other wise but once the potters died it felt like a bit rushed and so many important details were left unmentioined. It lacked the emotion load in the end that I anticipated. It was really good but yeah the ending could have been a lot better.
i am so super late to this!! but i found a canon compliant dorlene (dorcas/marlene) that really went in on the death scenes and it was something i definitely felt was lacking in ATYD
Regulus is a shithead but he wouldn’t really be if it was his pov because from outside he is not a very interesting character but once you get all the details from him he is one of the most interesting characters in there. And the perfect description for him is that he is the gray character. Like yeah he will do something good but he doesn’t have a problem killing a lot of people in the process

to understand regulus character more i feel like you should read choices. it’s very traumatic and does have heavy mentions of sa. it’s regulus’ canon to me in someways but be prepared for heartbreak.

Let me also say that it’s cool to have perspective from another guy 🙂 I LOVE ATYD, and I recently just finished reading Sirius’s perspective. Both versions just crush the soul, yet they are so beautiful and provide ultimate nostalgia. Also, you’re hilarious!!!

I definitely definitely definitely recommend Sirius Pov because there's moments from POA in it (no spoilers) it's really great seeing like both perspectives from each side of the story and I definitely had the same reaction to the first kiss and if you are new to the marauders fandom let me just say Welcome and sorry for the pain but there's so many brilliant ff but definitely read Sirius Pov

I absolutly loved your reaction! I like how you kept it real and just captured your emotions in the moment. Pls more of this! It reminded me of myself and my emotions when I read it for the first time and I want to recommend some fanfics to you, that I think you'd like.
1. Choises by Messermoon. I recommend this ff for two reasons. Number one: It's sunseeker/starchaser wich is regulus and james (as are all of my recommendations). You're reaction to Regulus in ATYD is justefied and he really isnt a likebel charakter, but he is loved by the fandom none the less and this will explain the hype around him. I would also recommend reading about the Black brothers relationship. The realationship great and heart breaking just like Choises. Onto reason number two: Its also canon complaient and has this detailed ending ATYD is missing. Be warned tho. This is from the perspective of Regulus and his story is one of the saddest I've ever heard of. His story is worth reading and it is a great use of your time
2. just lovers (like we are supposed to be) by Bizarrstars. Its also Sunseeker/Starchaser. Again from the perspective of Regulus but canon divergent. Very little angst, happy ending and just one of the best ff's out there in termes of romance and relationship. It also is a well deserved break from all the misery thhat is the marauders. Its so great, I can not recommend it enough.
3. Art heist, Baby by otrtbs. Sunseeker/Starchaser again. Does not take place in Hogwarts or has magic at all. But it has an art heist and everything else you could wish for. Even Wolfstar chapters! I think this is a really good take on the black brothers relationship and very easily compared to the canon events.
This is my seconde favorit, but again I have to warn you: This has MCD main charakter death and is a bit sad. (Does have a happy ending tho)
I really hope you read these bc they are worth every second of your time and you wong regret reading them ever. Pls give Starchaser a chance!

If you liked this, I would definitely recommend The Cadence of Part-time Poets by motswolo. It's a muggle au, so there's no magic but the writing is phenomenal. It's pretty similar to ATYD and I think you'd like it :)

The hand that feeds: A dorlene (Dorcas and Marlene) focused fic throughout seventh year and the war, it's enemies to lovers, filled with plottwists, and surpassed atyd as my fave marauders fic.
Right now a fic is being written from Grants pov, but it's not finished yet (he hasn't even met Remus yet so it feels like an entirely different story), I would recommend waiting until it's finished, but that might take ages: It's called When a blind man cries.

I feel you so much about the ending. I actually took a break like when there was maybe 20% of the book left because i thought it would be too much emotionally and then it was just not. It was like really good other wise but once the potters died it felt like a bit rushed and so many important details were left unmentioined. It lacked the emotion load in the end that I anticipated. It was really good but yeah the ending could have been a lot better.
using this as motivation to read past year seven because im avoiding the war

i am so super late to this!! but i found a canon compliant dorlene (dorcas/marlene) that really went in on the death scenes and it was something i definitely felt was lacking in ATYD
Regulus is a shithead but he wouldn’t really be if it was his pov because from outside he is not a very interesting character but once you get all the details from him he is one of the most interesting characters in there. And the perfect description for him is that he is the gray character. Like yeah he will do something good but he doesn’t have a problem killing a lot of people in the process
If you wanna be absolutely crushed, read ATYD from Sirius’ POV

Even if you don’t read Sirius’ POV, I definitely recommend at least reading the authors one shots from other perspectives. I managed to not cry at all while reading atyd or atyd: Sirius POV but the last sentence of the James chapter broke me

to understand regulus character more i feel like you should read choices. it’s very traumatic and does have heavy mentions of sa. it’s regulus’ canon to me in someways but be prepared for heartbreak.
