Author intent is making decisions about the plot and subtexts of the books based off of what the author has said/written. Death of the author is people making their own decisions about interpreting the plot/subtext. There’s nothing wrong with using death of the author, frankly that’s the one I’m most comfortable using. Don’t be angry at people for interpreting subtext in their own way.

I’m yet to read the books (planning on as soon as school stops shoving books down my throat) but from just watching the films, Remus and Sirius acts like a real couple when on the other hand I wouldn’t have figured out Remus and Tonks were a thing until the second to last film, if I was being super observant. Remus Lupin is pretty strongly coded gay. In the movie he was even acted and styled as a gay character. Then there comes him being a werewolf, which confirmed by J K Rowling lycanthropy is an analogy for HIV (oh boy is that a bad idea). Then comes the even worse idea of the second and only other named werewolf introduced, a pedophile who implied to had sexual assaulted Lupin as a child. Having lupin as gay only reinforces the connection hiv has with being gay but again has many issuse. I hate to say it but I think that JKR laid down the gay subtext deliberately to suggest a possible relationship but then changed her mind after Sirius died so that she could do the Teddy storyline - I heard her say once that she wanted to leave another orphan like Harry to show the awfulness of war. It wasn't until DH that she makes an overt point of mentioning the muggle girl posters on Sirius' wall.
Not to mention everyone plays with their wands all day and male wizards wear (dress) robes, which were (and still are to some degree) not considert "gender appropriate" by muggles.....

Sirius is definitely gay. I mean, he never was said to show any interest in girls, and never had a girlfriend. Remus, on the other hand, shows many signs of bisexuality (or, by extension, pansexuality). He definitely took a liking to Sirius, while he also seemed quite partial to Tonks. Demisexuality could be on the table as well, and he is quite reserved and got to know both Tonks and Sirius quite well. All in all, 10/10.
Ok but Tonks is literally the female version of Sirius. She is a methamorphmagus and Sirius is an animagus, She has great hair and he has great hair, and they are literally related.
As much as I hate to say it, I think Rowling is a coward. She often seems to mention things she had in the back stories of characters but didn't make at all apparent in the actual books, like Dumbledor being Gay, or denies things that seem to be in subtext based on what she thinks will make the stories appeal more or less to people. She knows that openly gay characters would cause a lot of people to oppose the story's suitability for children but also that members of the LGBT community are desperate for characters we can relate to so she tries to have the best of both worlds and let everyone think she is catering to them
J. K. Rowling said that Dumbledore's sexuality never came up because it was never relevant, and I can understand why Dumbledore would not have felt the need to discuss his sexual preferences with his students. She had complete backstories in her head for loads of characters that never made it into the book (i.e. Professor McGonnagall's) That said, I do hope an openly gay Dumbledore appears in the Fantastic Beasts sequels.

I've always seen Sirius as gay and Remus as bisexual, and I've always believed that they were a couple. Yes, Remus ends up with Tonks in the end, but they didn't start dating until after Sirius died, and Remus was prepared to leave her (and their baby) behind just because of the werewolf stigma. Tonks definitely loved Remus, but I don't think Remus loved her in the same way. He was fascinated and impressed by her, and after Sirius died I think he used her as a way to cope with his loss, and I think he started dating her because he was afraid of being alone (again) So my theory is that Remus and Sirius started dating during their later years at Hogwarts, and then kind of broke up because of the mistrust and all that shit that happened during the war with Voldemort. But once they found out the truth and once they were reunited, they got back together (as you said, OotP is so gay #40linestare) and I firmly believe that if none of them had died, Harry's gay uncles would've lived out the rest of their days in a small cottage by the sea, happily ever after.

Ah, I wish more characters would be confirmed as bisexual. It took me such an embarrassingly long time to come out as bi because almost all media I ingested in high school portrayed bi people as sluts, and they were otherwise non-existent. This being text would have helped me a lot in accepting my romantic attraction when I was younger. Maybe would have helped me avoid a toxic relationship with a guy because I thought I had to be with a guy, idk

Honestly what mostly pisses me off about this whole thing, is that it implies people can’t have multiple lovers in their life. Like, why couldn’t they have been together at Hogwarts? And even after, but then ended things? Of course, Sirius was in prison for a great deal of time, which gave Remus an opportunity to move on. I love Tonks and Remus together, as I also love Remus and Sirius together. Most people don’t end up with their first love anyway, which makes it all the more interesting for me, as the (ugh) epilogue finishes with our main characters marrying the partners they had in school- which is unrealistic, and lazy writing, in my opinion 🤷♀️

Death of the author is people making their own decisions about interpreting the plot/subtext. There’s nothing wrong with using death of the author, frankly that’s the one I’m most comfortable using. Don’t be angry at people for interpreting subtext in their own way.

Remus Lupin is pretty strongly coded gay. In the movie he was even acted and styled as a gay character. Then there comes him being a werewolf, which confirmed by J K Rowling lycanthropy is an analogy for HIV (oh boy is that a bad idea).
Then comes the even worse idea of the second and only other named werewolf introduced, a pedophile who implied to had sexual assaulted Lupin as a child.
Having lupin as gay only reinforces the connection hiv has with being gay but again has many issuse. Rowling has some questionable things in the books, Lupin-Tonks out of nowhere relatinships de-lgbt them both so "fixes" things she wrote. There quite a bit of subtext to that relationship too

I hate to say it but I think that JKR laid down the gay subtext deliberately to suggest a possible relationship but then changed her mind after Sirius died so that she could do the Teddy storyline - I heard her say once that she wanted to leave another orphan like Harry to show the awfulness of war. It wasn't until DH that she makes an overt point of mentioning the muggle girl posters on Sirius' wall.

Sirius is definitely gay. I mean, he never was said to show any interest in girls, and never had a girlfriend.
Remus, on the other hand, shows many signs of bisexuality (or, by extension, pansexuality). He definitely took a liking to Sirius, while he also seemed quite partial to Tonks. Demisexuality could be on the table as well, and he is quite reserved and got to know both Tonks and Sirius quite well.

As much as I hate to say it, I think Rowling is a coward. She often seems to mention things she had in the back stories of characters but didn't make at all apparent in the actual books, like Dumbledor being Gay, or denies things that seem to be in subtext based on what she thinks will make the stories appeal more or less to people. She knows that openly gay characters would cause a lot of people to oppose the story's suitability for children but also that members of the LGBT community are desperate for characters we can relate to so she tries to have the best of both worlds and let everyone think she is catering to them
J. K. Rowling said that Dumbledore's sexuality never came up because it was never relevant, and I can understand why Dumbledore would not have felt the need to discuss his sexual preferences with his students. She had complete backstories in her head for loads of characters that never made it into the book (i.e. Professor McGonnagall's) That said, I do hope an openly gay Dumbledore appears in the Fantastic Beasts sequels.

I've always seen Sirius as gay and Remus as bisexual, and I've always believed that they were a couple. Yes, Remus ends up with Tonks in the end, but they didn't start dating until after Sirius died, and Remus was prepared to leave her (and their baby) behind just because of the werewolf stigma. Tonks definitely loved Remus, but I don't think Remus loved her in the same way. He was fascinated and impressed by her, and after Sirius died I think he used her as a way to cope with his loss, and I think he started dating her because he was afraid of being alone (again) So my theory is that Remus and Sirius started dating during their later years at Hogwarts, and then kind of broke up because of the mistrust and all that shit that happened during the war with Voldemort. But once they found out the truth and once they were reunited, they got back together (as you said, OotP is so gay #40linestare) and I firmly believe that if none of them had died, Harry's gay uncles would've lived out the rest of their days in a small cottage by the sea, happily ever after.

Ah, I wish more characters would be confirmed as bisexual. It took me such an embarrassingly long time to come out as bi because almost all media I ingested in high school portrayed bi people as sluts, and they were otherwise non-existent. This being text would have helped me a lot in accepting my romantic attraction when I was younger. Honestly what mostly pisses me off about this whole thing, is that it implies people can’t have multiple lovers in their life. Like, why couldn’t they have been together at Hogwarts? And even after, but then ended things? Of course, Sirius was in prison for a great deal of time, which gave Remus an opportunity to move on.
I love Tonks and Remus together, as I also love Remus and Sirius together. Most people don’t end up with their first love anyway, which makes it all the more interesting for me, as the (ugh) epilogue finishes with our main characters marrying the partners they had in school- which is unrealistic, and lazy writing, in my opinion 🤷♀️
You are right and a person can have more than one lover but cannot love more than one person at the same time.

So even if you don't believe that you can love more than one person at a time (which polyromantics will disagree with), then your point still does not relate to Remus' love for Sirius and his love for Tonks.

AND I want to add that in the third book when Harry and Remus were talking about Sirius and Harry thought that Sirius would deserve a Dementor kiss , Remus said that he doesn't think that even Sirius who betrayed his friends would deserve something like this. But when he knew that Sirius was innocent and Peter was guilty and the one who betrayed Lily and James he wanted to help Sirius to kill Peter. So he thought that Sirius wouldn't deserve a Dementor kiss but he wanted to help Sirius killing Peter. It means all these years he hoped that Sirius was innocent and when he knew it he was so happy that his love didn't do anything bad and he wanted to kill Peter with him together. ❤❤❤

they were definitely queer and DEFINITELY in love and i like to think they were high school sweethearts and after the prisoner of azkaban, when remus moved in with sirius (yeah i'm still not over that one detail) they continued their relationship where they left it off. what's clear is that they're boyfriends and the love of my life and should be protected at all costs.
