Two girl best friends who lived in an isolated cottage in the middle of a beautiful forest, singing duets about wanting to be each with each other forever, who fly away from the copy paste male "love interests" by rainbow to save the greek mythology-inspired theatre girl squad *wearing pink orange and purple pink dresses respectively* .
Yes, the straightest thing ever.
Hmmm sounds like something sappho would write 🤔
Sounds like every lesbian dream ever-
It was my favourite barbie film, you can tell how I turned out
Even the title card is bisexual lol
@Rach ngl I'm demisexual panromantic
Something I always appreciated about princess and the pauper as a kid was that Erika, a commoner, initially turns down a marriage proposal from a king because her dream wasn't marriage, her dream was to travel the world singing for audiences. She only marries the king after she gets that chance to fulfill her actual original dream. A lot of stories about girls will often have the character abandon their initial goal when they experience romance while Erika's love interest chooses to wait for her while she accomplishes her goals she had before he came into the picture.
guess that means Barbie/Annaliese also waited, not just for the marriage with the dude, but waited for Erika which supports the theory of their 4 person polygamous marriage.
🤩
I also really appreciated the role reversal of princess and Cindefella! She saved herself and her kingdom even tho she was a "damsel in distress". They had a relationship on trust and respect that really drew my younger self in. Both guys supported their dreams! It's beautiful!
Iconic nepotism beard marriage.
When I was a kid I had lots of Barbie's and only 1 ken....
So obviously he would officiate my queer Barbie weddings which would obviously be crashed by Barbie's secret lover who would then confess her undying love for Barbie and convince her to leave her fiancé at the alter and run away with her.... But not before running her ex-fiancé with one of my brother's hot wheels

Mariposa and the fairy princess is basically a gay romance. We already knew Mariposa had a thing for the ever toxic Henna, but now she has a healthy relationship with Princess Catania
*Disclaimer, because of the replies on my comment, I edited it; so just to be clear, this comment is not meant to be offensive. It's just a personal reaction.*
I do not see it as logical consequence that Mariposa and Catania "basically a gay romance", or that she has "a thing for" Henna. Yes, it is a healthy relationsip, and it can be interpreted perhaps as romance. But I see it as mere friendship, and I really love also Mariposa and Carlos together, especially because she is dancing with Carlos in the ending.
You may interpret it, as you like...but just to mention:
(Satirical comment starts..)
"Girl smiles at a girl and they befriend --> gay!
Girl yells at a girl and they fight --> gay!
Is there any chance not being gay nowadays?"
(Snarky comment ending)
What I mean is that we also should not feel to save in any conclusions. That's the same also with straight romances. I'm not an active shipper, but I feel like that either way, whether gay or straight, real or fictive characters should not pushed into a relationship as "fact"., What is done as fan shipping, is another question; and I understand that there is chemistry as argument. But I just feel that there is a difference how we can jump to conclusions. Alexa and Liana in the Diamond Castle are more likely to be seen as representation than Erika and Anneliese, for example.

@@felicity1877 You may interpret it, as you like...but just to mention....
Girl & guy look at each other for more than 2 seconds --> in love!
Guy pesters girl even after she has told him repeatedly she is not interested--> in love!
Is there any chance not being straight nowadays?
--
Please look at it from both perspectives. And I would even argue that straight people are usually much 'worse' in this aspect. A lot of writers are just lazy when it comes to straight romance so the romance between the characters end up unfulfilling or just plain bad because the characters have 0 chemistry. They're just a boy and a girl who happen to be in the same room, and BOOM they're in love. Also the weird male fantasy of the unfunny, painfully plain 'average dude' getting together with the most interesting and most attractive woman ever by constantly pressuring her into being in a relationship. Also the "he just bullies you because he likes you and boys cant control their feelings" :/ .
This is really sad because not only does it portray a really weird and unhealthy ideal of romance, but also because straight people don't really get any good relationships in media. The only one that I can come up with, on the top of my head, that was really cute is the relationship between Rayla and Callum from The Dragon Prince. But usually its just badly written or plain abusive.
And besides, it is fairly undeniable that these movies discussed here have a very queer feeling to them. If you just change Alexa in The Diamond Castle to a guy there would be obvious romantic implications of two people living together, being romantically uninterested in other people, saying they want to stay with each other forever, and then rejecting a life of luxury to go back to their humble home together.
Even if they never kissed or explicitly said anything about their relationship, you would automatically assume they were a couple just from the fact that they are a boy and a girl doing these things together. So why are people bending over backwards to proclaim that sapphic relationships or sapphic undertones are just 💞besties™💞?
@@felicity1877 Barbie litterally exists so that people (mainly little girls) can see themselves in her. And a lot of those little girls could be queer and see Barbies relationships with her friends who are girls through a rainbow lens. So it makes sense for Barbie to be bi so that straight little girls and queer little girls can see themselves in some part of her

Seriously, two women practically have to make-out to be seen as a couple. It's ridiculously frustrating to the point where sometimes you just have to laugh like a madwoman to keep from losing your sh*t.
Same mood with historians looking at people who lived together and wrote each other love letters etc. "Hmm, they must have been best friends!"
straight female friendships can and should be portrayed like this too. the fault of confusion is the limited gay media portrayals.

As an ace girl who grew up on barbie... I didn't even realize how few on screen kisses there are. No wonder I love these movies so much.
same! barbie movies as an ace kid were very ideal for me because the romance was very subtle(the hetero romance lol). I much prefered the exploration of female friendship and adventure. In disney movies it is the total opposite. The end goal is typically the marriage plot. I did love disney movies but I'd always fast forward through love songs and kiss scenes haha. I am glad disney is starting to realize that "hey maybe that is harmful to push on kids" so now we're getting more charcter driven stories. they're not perfect and neither is barbie of course but I think it is interesting and important to explore.
@@rachelkiesser5406 Yeah... Disney hasn't stopped showing hetro kissing because it's harmful to kids. You speak as if they care or that they've employed creatives who do. Absolutely not. They've stopped showing it as a false-progressive whistleblow to feminists. It's there way of pointing to characters and saying "Look! This strong, female character doesn't need a man in her story! Are we doing it right?!"
I wish I could word it without sounding like a GOP Conservative but that's the best way I can describe it. They do nothing to actually be progressive, it's performative feminism that is deeply steeped in homophobia, anti/apathetic-LGBTQ sentiment. Please do not believe that Disney cares about "the children" in the slightest. They pander to progressive groups in a way that let's them keep the money from conservative (racists/homophobes) customers.
@@grandempressvicky6387 I'm certainly not under the impression that Disney is an any way a progressive company. However, I also do not want to ignore the many progressive animators, directors, staff members, and lower level employees who fight daily for representation at Disney. For a long time they have been fighting back and they have spoken up about this many times. So while the company/corporation as a whole is certainly not something I will ever praise I want to give credit to the individuals who do care because they are fighting for what matters.
As with all political situations there is nuance. This is of course a comment section so I cannot perfectly articulate all my opinions but I just want to recognize the value in these people's work even if I strongly disagree with company they work for. I don't think they alone can fix these issues but to ignore it feels wrong. Fundamentally Disney needs to change from the inside. I hope we all continue to support those who are working to do that. As it is such a huge company that unfortunately impacts many aspects of the global economy it is rather significant. This is the realities of our capitalist hell.
I hope I communicated what I wanted to say clearly. I don't want to argue. I think this is a nuanced argument with multiple sides. I do understand why anyone would disagree.
admittedly, I watched barbie when I was already a teenager, but the way the male romance interests usually have less than 5 minutes of screen time & their entire role is just to say a few goofy lines & then leave, i'd think "god, i wish that was me..."

I had a book about barbie history when I was kid, they mentioned Bild Lili but edited out the sex bit 😂
I found out today. Never put much thought into barbie before (although did play with it for a short period as a kid), but I guess a lot of casual things have an interesting backstory once you look into it
I'm not so sure about that characterization. When I first heard Lilli described that way, I did some Googling to see what that meant. What I learned was that she was based on a comic strip character who was sort of a blonde bimbo gold-digger, but also had high standards in men and spent a lot of time telling them off. The doll was originally sold as a gag gift for men, but was then marketed as a present for men to give their girlfriends and was also played with by children. I think the "sex doll" idea was popularized by author Ariel Levy.

I've said it once and i'll say it again: barbie and the princess school (or whatever it's called) is the gayest one by far. The plot is amazing, it depicts a forbidden romance between a young girl who comes from a unwealthy background and a brainwashed royal. The "poor" girl is projected into this noble milieu and isn't accepted because of her background but still fights and works for her cause and what she belives is right. The brainwashed royal will slowly detach from the ideas her mother planted in her, works her internalized homophobia out and helps her forbidden lover through her quest to take down the crown. Oh and it takes place in an all Girls school where everyone is basically a different flavor of gay.

Aren't they cousins
@@lilabrownexo4691 no who told you that??
*TASTE THE RAINBOW*
@@lilabrownexo4691 I can't remember if they're cousins but they are related. That's the only reason the snobby royal girl is in the running for the throne. She's the only living relative to the king and queen that died (other than Barbie, but nobody knows shes alive til the end).
Iirc, snobby royal girl's mom (villain mom) is the wife of the dead king's brother. Which is why villain mom can't be queen, she's not blood related to royalty, but her daughter is. So villain mom arranged to get the king, queen, and princess killed and make snobby royal girl queen and that way villain mom got to stay in power.
I only recently realized that as a child, many of my Barbies were in lesbian relationships because I had many women and only two Kens. It was completely logical and natural for me to create pairs of women, although only a few months ago I thought about the fact that not every girl did that. I have good parents who gave me a sex education very early, so all my life I wondered how my classmates could be ashamed to see kisses in the movies, when I spend a lot of time arranging hot nights for Barbie and Ken.
I always joked about being bisexual, but after breaking away from a long-term abusive relationship when it was time to move on, I tried to imagine the person I wanted to have around me, and finally took it seriously that this person could be a woman. I am very glad that I stopped joking, although my parents never embarrassed me for such jokes, I still felt some pressure from the world that I should not be like that. As soon as I told my parents that I was bisexual seriously, I was supported, and my mother only advised me to change the Tinder settings so as not to miss my chance among women.
As for Barbie movies ... I thought that when I grow up I realize that they are stupid and "for children", but it turned out the opposite, each review gives me something new, and I want to show these movies to my children, if I have them. Unlike Disney cartoons, which were boxed stories, stories about a princess who wants more, and a prince whose names are not even mentioned in half of the movies, Barbie cartoons did not fit in the box. Through them, I fell in love with ballet, got visual orgasms from brilliant transformations, and learned wonderful songs, but I also got a bunch of protagonists who save themselves and the world, stories in which love is not at the center of the plot, evidence that being a woman is difficult, but we should fight for justice, and the representation of many kinds of relationships, from love and friendship, to relationships between brothers, sisters, parents and children, and more. It's more than Disney with a standard love, a standard antagonist who interferes with love, and a standard kiss that can fix everything.
Sorry for rambling so long, it was just a very emotional video for me💖💞

@@naolucillerandom5280 I think there is a difference for me, not to look at kisses, because you don't like it visually, I also have it sometimes, it depends on the situation. "Daranged latino man watches 39 barbie movies for attention" God I love this
I wonder if this messaging was part of why I didn't realize I was queer until I was 12/13, despite clearly being attracted to girls in my earliest memories as a child - because these films teach the viewer that this kind of relationship is only platonic, and will always be only platonic. "Best friends now, tomorrow, always". and so on. The princess from Swan Lake was my first crush and I obsessed over her! But I was told that was friendship. I wonder if other queer people feel similarly, or if there's any research into it. This video was so well done and absolutely made me think!
I feel the same way! and i still think it’s hard to distinguish between platonic and romantic relationships with girls. While close female relationships always have been portrayed as platonic, i feel like it’s the opposite with close male relationships. Women can literally kiss each other and still be seen as platonic while men can barely be vulnerable with each other without the fear of looking "gay". In the same way men and women that are just friends always has an assumed romantic connection..
as a child I was told something similar "women can think other women are pretty and it's normal" so growing up I would find woman characters attractive and I would always tell myself that it was normal bc women can find other woman attractive and it wasn't until I was 15 that I realized it wasn't just me thinking these women were pretty but that I was attracted to them.
oh
@@NoOne-fb7xu Same, I never got crushes on my female friends but I was definitelly taught that finding other women pretty and attractive was a normal platonic thing. My mom still likes to call certain actresses super attractive, the same way she does male actors, while failing to realize that is kind of queer.
I had my first crush at 14, at some stranger girl I had never met but I could not stop looking at her and I remember thinking I wanted to make art of her. Then I proceeded to contemplate approaching her but got upset when I saw her walking with a boy and gave up. Then I gaslighted myself into thinking I just wanted to look like her and dismissed any same-sex attraction as just me overthinking platonic feelings, until a girl literally made out with me at 17, making me realize I was, in fact, bisexual.
I completely agree!! I’d have sleepovers are friends houses and want to be Barbies with them, want to have that close and almost romantic relationships like she did. I’d play her with my dolls and they’d kiss and do whatever but it was all platonic bc that’s what I thought platonic was

43:10 okay but in mainstream media hyperfeminine characters are usually potrayed as one-dimensional side characters most likely the protagonist's love interest. this is definitely not the case in the barbie movies. So we could say that barbie actually rewrites the meaning of femininity as decision making, power, assertiveness and self awareness. You don't have to posses masculine characteristics to have traditional masculine traits such as will, thought or self control. The barbie movies actually reclaim those traits to be purely feminine.
just like legally blonde. It's reclaiming feminine pride
The implication that "will, thought and self control" are seen as masculine traits is genuinely horrifying, not only because it makes feminity seem inhuman and thoughtless but also because it sees "thought and self control" as a given to males
Okey, but why in the world people call one of the most reactional ideologies flicking marxist?
How the in the world queers can help to the public ownership of the means of production.
yeah i agree here. looking at barbie alone its not great obviously but i think barbie does well for the place it has in the larger media scene today. there are plenty of women who are strong characters with masculine traits but not as many who are strong characters with feminine traits. meanwhile barbie is as feminine as they come but the narrative is always that she/the female protagonist is very capable and can do anything she needs to to help people or save the world and she never has to compromise on her femininity. that's powerful when young girls everywhere are being told that being feminine means they're weak.
I almost literally choked to death when you said "when being gay was invented"
there was literally a barbie movie with fairies that had pride flags for wings.
There aren't enough Men in that universe for straight monogamy to make sense.
Although as a cis queer woman i wouldn’t know the gender experience of a cis het woman, i argue that barbie wasn’t just a space for queer women to move away from the male gaze, but straight women too. I mean, why would straight women relate to a male perspective on women’s sexuality? By definition they wouldn’t be attracted to/looking at/perceiving women the way a cis het man would
As a straight woman I can say you are right.
As a tomboyish kid/teen I hated being sexualized and romanticized all the time. Yeah romance is cool, but why every time it has to end like this, like it's the best thing you could want in your life? I always loved Barbie movies because to me it was just girls living adventures and doing what they wanted. Therefore, I must say I'm not very happy about this queer reading of the films, mainly because of this. At the same time, I'm happy to see in the comments how this take about the films helped many queer kids, so... 😊
@@lankylowshot2246 well, a reading isn’t meant to be the only meaning for the movie, it’s just one way you could read it. I definitely liked barbie movies for alot of the same reasons as you did, ‘cause that’s how i interpreted it as a kid, but a queer interpretation also makes sense to me
@@paranoidlizard6338 yeah I know, it's just a little bit hard for me personally, because in the past I had a really hard time befriending boys without being romanticized and had to deal with loneliness and rejection because of that. This is the first time I've had a man make a whole commentary on not just Barbie, a inherently femme topic, but also on femme queerness, the mold of society and queer gals all around cutting their barbie's hair off while having to fit the "perfect girl" role out in public or around family. Barbie is gay, because as far as i'm concerned my barbies kissed each other when i was little.
The Diamond Lesbia- I mean, Castle... They're literally just Catradora lol. The green eyes and mind control? Dangling off a cliff and trying not to kill the woman you lovehategay? HOLDING HER LIKE THAT??
Anyways you missed THE GAYEST one: a recent movie where Barbie's college roomie is also named Barbie. It canonizes "the black barbie" in the cinematic universe, saying that they are both equally valid as Barbie. Also they're very explicitly gay. Like, they are in an actual relationship. Also a few years ago, Barbie came out as bi on the barbiestyle instagram account, with a post that says "museum date with my gf"
I totally have things to do with my life and I'm normal!

There is nothing gay about the movie "Barbie and the Castel of diamond",people comments about the movie shows sexism and how people sexualize women,if a woman doesn't need a man and has a close relationship with a woman is a lesbian right now for some people.
WHERE IS THE BARBIESTYLE INSTA ACCNT
the line "marry whom i choose" never really stuck to me now, like they could've made the line "marry the man i love"-- i'm aware that has too many syllables, but that's not the point-- they COULD'VE made it less gay with enough work but they didn't. 😏
The rhythm must have been better with the former, I don't see that as a planned move personally
Since I've grown up with the german dub of this movie this was such a missed opportunity!! Because in German Anneliese still sings "Such mir meinen Mann selbst aus/choosing my own husband"
I'm autistic and obsessed with Barbie since I was a kid (it's my special interest). So I have to say: I love this so much! All the nuances, the doll's story plus sensible critiques without ignoring the good things... And yeah Barbie is queer AF everyone who watches the Diamond Castle knows it. Anyways, just another Alex coming here to say: good job, Alex! Thank you for this masterpiece!
1:35 Magic Ring Ken!! This guy was “accidentally inspired” by gay bars where fashion designers were trying to make cool Ken outfits
The funny thing is that I just remmind the girls in barbies movies, but never the guys, like they didn't exist

Same, but I think that's because of how the movies are written. Never thought about it before
They had some puffy pants, I liked those
My favorite part of playing with Barbie as a child was to sew clothes for her. This is how at young age I knew I want to become a designer. And I did, just a bit different kind of a designer (3D), But still requires for me to create clothes in digital format.

i personally think that liberal individualism is so inherent in united states' culture that it always appear in some way through cultural materials. i started to think about it after seeing imigrant stories (specially latin or asian ones) being told and there's always this conflict between a community-centered culture and an individual-centered one
fun fact: in psychology, "community-centered" and "individual-centered" culture come up so often that they actually have their own dedicated terms: collectivism and individualism. Cultures like that of China and Portugal are said to be collectivist whereas American culture is individualist. The terms are used to describe how behavior can differ between cultures, for example, a collectivist person may be more sympathetic towards someone else making a mistake that negatively impacts them, whereas an individualist is typically quicker to blame the individual who made the mistake. "They probably just couldn't see around the corner" vs "That asshole wasn't looking and almost rammed into me"

I had to be honest. I watch many of the Barbie movies because I loved the touch of fancy dresses and castles. But something that I really felt attracted to was the cute guys. For a gay boy who grow up in a cult, those movies were the closest I could imagine myself living in an alternative world. I wished many times that I could have my own Prince 🤴. Let’s not forget that Barbie’s body shape wasn’t created as an ideal. It needed to be a bit disproportionate for the stiffer, thicker doll clothes fabrics of the 50’s to sit properly on her. That’s why we can have different shaped Barbie dolls today that fabric manufacture has evolved.
Idk I find it hard to believe that the best body type for doll clothes just happened to be the body type that was also in "fashion" back then.

My queer awakening was Nori in "Barbie in Fairytopia: Mermaidia"
I didn't quite understand it as a 7 year old, but I wanted her to step/swim all over me.
The colors of their dresses in Diamond Castle are the color schemes of some very relevant pride flags ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Seems PRETTY specific ~
Unfortunately the movie debuted before the flags were designed, so it's just a coincidence.
My favorite colors have always happened to be the bisexual colors throughout my childhood. I literally had purple blue and pink stripes across my wall. It didn’t mean anything.
those flags came about Ten years after the movie was released
I miss the time when we would not label colours by sexuality,I'm sick of people assuming that if someone likes or uses things with colours the person is part of LGBT+community.
I love this video so much and my only gripe is that Mermaidia is WAY more homoerotic than Princess and the Pauper. I understand that that could be too many mermaids though
Bold to suggest there can be too many
When I was little my female Barbies would have to marry eachother because I had no male barbies.
And now I'm queer so thank you Barbie.
"[...] she doesn't have to justify her role as the protagonist by making her embody the traits that the patriarchy values in men."
that really hit home. i always felt there was something artificial about women in lead roles post 90s. it felt forced, like holding up a sign of "look how progressive we are" rather than just making the protagonist a genuine character regardless of gender.
i also think that media is grossly over-saturated with romantic love as a whole. where is that promotion of healthy loving friendships? same sex and hetero. love between siblings? between children and their parents? whenever two characters are remotely attached and friendly to each other everyone's always going crazy about shipping and i think that's really sad. romance is not the peak of a relationship, friendships are just as valuable and can give just as much and i feel like that's often neglected in favor of making things romantic/sexual. i don't know why everyone seems so obsessed with this.
Damn i felt this as an aroace person who gets turned off on any media with a romance plot. It leads to not watching most media
@@royalblanket yo, you didn't have to call me out like that 😭
@@royalblanket I relate to this. I’m alright with romance, but it gets really boring and repetitive after a while. Every time I watch a movie and there’s a character that I see myself in, I’m hoping that they don’t end up in a relationship. It feels like romance is an obligation and that it has to be in every movie. I just want a movie about friendship that doesn’t try to force a romantic relationship. When you’re constantly exposed to this way of life that’s painted as a must-have that everyone apparently wants, you begin to feel really invalidated and side-lined. You begin to think there’s something wrong with *you* because everyone else wants a romantic life but you have no desire for one. You feel unseen and unheard, and you start to despise romance all together because you don’t feel like your feelings matter when there’s not a single character out there that you can relate to. You begin to feel invisible and insignificant.
Agreed the way society veiws romance and sex is very disturbibg and everything is hyperlised

Ah yes. The Barbie video we've been waiting for.
"The mermaid, whom I'll call Isla, because that's her name..."
That made me chuckle.
As an adult who still loves these goofy movies I grew up with, in recent nostalgic rewatches, Erica’s cat Wolfie is a great metaphor for being trans and/or non-binary. He displays attributes and behaviors outside of what we expect but is still accepted and appreciated and deserving it love.
Bruh I’m having a flashback to watching the diamond castle being like “w0ah they live together?” And starting to question heterosexuality norms when I didn’t know being a lesbian was an option
honestly the most convincing "they're honestly gay I swear" videos i've ever seen
Barbie and the diamond castle was always my favorite movie growing up and when I think about it some of my favorites were just so gay. Mariposa- there was literally no reason for the villain to want barbie on her side that isn't gay, mermaid tail 2- enemies to lovers with the australian surfer, diamond castle- cottage core lesbians, who don't even end up with the male leads at the end. Why were they living alone in that cottage together in the first place? There's no way there was room for more than one bedroom in that thing
"Back in the year 1959, before gay people were invented..." might be one of the opening lines of all time. Keep writing sentences :)
some people pointed out that Diamond Castle dresses are the lesbian and bi flag, which is cool to note in a modern lens but only the bi flag was made before the movie. The one people are referencing was made in 2018 and the lipstick one which I guess they could also be referencing was made in 2010. The only lesbian flag back then was purple with a black triangle and a white double axe (idk what its called) so not like the dress at all. Alternatively, Princess and the Pauper dresses make up the trans pride flag (which was made in 99 I believe). There's not MUCH subtext to make them seem trans but its a fun thing to note.
Also, most of Barbie dress colour schemes are bi (occasionally pan or lesbian) pride colours
Actually, to correct your comment, the Barbie dress pallets inspired most of the pride flags, because they are the blueprint.
The one with the axes are the butch flag

34:37 "Annalise and Barbie pulled themselves up by their bra straps and articulated their own independence in a courages way, but never directly the power dynamics that were creating the inequalities that trapped them in the first place"
Basically; "You can be anything you want, as long as you don't rock the boat"
Or "Be who you are; Except if who your are disrupts the status quo"
The whole freedom in play element reminds me of video game bisexuality. The way companies have perfected the art of upholding the status quo while offering ways to satisfy their more niche audiences across all media forms is truly something.
You didn't talk about this movie, but the movie Mermaidia had this mermaid prince who spent much of the movie tied up with seaweed and a prisoner of the bad guys, and i always loved him. Looking back, he has to have been one of my earliest fictional crushes
he was such a boy toy I love him
One thing I like about barbie movies is that barbie and her sometimes girlfriends are always in fantasy adventures together. They're the center of the story in a kingdom with mermaids, fairies, and magic, often fighting against a villain in a quest to be yourself. I feel like a lot of confirmed representation is with either minor background characters, or any gay character arc is just a coming out story. It's nice to have these movies as a way to see someone who could be like you.
As a child I would play out a story line where my Barbie would marry Ken and then Ken would die and Barbie would marry another Barbie. And somehow I was surprised when I realized I was a lesbian.
