- It's Day 4 of #The100DayProject, and the first of my longer videos explaining each day's collage paper technique. Why on Day 4? Well, I post a weekly Better With Art small-art-prompt every Sunday, so I wanted to share #My100CollagePapers in the middle of the week... and alliteration... 100-Day Wednesday...
This week is all about the gloriously translucent tissue paper. The type of paper I'm most used to using in collage. It all starts with my most common technique for coloring my papers with some gorgeous variations. Then there are stripes and asemic writing that can float fascinatingly in a layer. And I wrapped things up today with an experiment. What happens when you spray or drip alcohol on acrylic paint on tissue paper? Let's find out!

MATERIALS
I buy my favorite Liquitex Basics paints from Blick Art Materials. They're cheaper than on Amazon, but there is a minimum order for free shipping. You can check they out below:

They are also the cheaper source of Golden glazing liquid, which is the adhesive I use for all my tissue-paper collage. It gets my fingers far less sticky than other mediums.

My absolute favorite tissue-paper-painting brush is a Simply Simmons XL soft synthetic size 50 Filbert:

I use two old wooden foldable drying racks like this to dry my tissue paper on:

Well, like that but older and wooden so not as smooth to use.
If you use my Amazon link and make a qualifying purchase I will make a small commission. As Blick it costs you nothing but helps support my channel, so thanks if you do!

I love the idea of the drying rack.
@@marygartner9864 So convenient!
I love these. I have had a dry spell painting for the last three years, but these collage videos are pumping up the old mojo again. Thanks for the inspiration. Time to order some tissue paper. 😊
Dry spells are hard. I'm glad you're feeling inspired. Tissue paper collage papers are fun and low-stress, at least when the artist is comfortable with not knowing exactly how it will turn out. But the beauty of that is also that there are no mistakes. Just experimentation, learning, the opportunity to get into flow, and the anticipation of seeing the results as well as using them in collage. I find tissue paper-painting sessions wonderfully therapeutic.
Lovely artwork! Your artiist aesthetic and sensibility is wonderful; I particularly love the landscapes in jour journal.😊
Thank you! That's one of my favorites.
I love working with tissue paper, especially on the gel plate... so I am DEFINITELY going to try your method, too. Thank you! 🙂
I kept going with the tissue-paper theme this week, so there will be another video with them tomorrow, including some using the gel plate. 😄 So much fun!
Your voice is relaxing ❤
I'm glad you find it relaxing.😊
Kitchen garbage bags are a great surface to work on. They can add some beautiful textures, too. Thx 4 ur video!
Great idea! Thanks!

Oh im in love! You are magic!
Painting tissue paper for collage is one of my favorite things. 😄
I love this! Thank you.
You're welcome. And thank you!
I am in love with your papers!!
Thank you! I am in love with making them.
Gotta do this! Love following along
Have fun!
I’m thinking that I will rush downstairs and grab my gelli plate so I too can have some of your fun ❤
It's all so much fun. 😊
So talented
Definitely having fun. 😊
Love this! Am taking Marabeth’s Layered Botanicals class and love painting tissue paper! Do you have a favorite brand of tissue paper?
I did, but can no longer find it in stock. I do find most cheap white tissue paper works well for the way I typically use it, but I know the way she's doing the botanicals is a bit different. I'm looking forward to learning more from her, too. 😊
I see wet strength tissue is available on Amazon now. Not cheap though.
Your work is beautiful , please what kind of Paper you use ? Greetings from Germany 😊
Look up Carnival wet strength tissue paper. It is a UK based company, but it ships worldwide. It is the only tissue paper I use for all my artwork.
Thank you for your Tipp so fast !
I use regular and wet strength tissue paper. I can no longer get my favorite type of regular tissue paper but have found just about any inexpensive gift wrap tissue works fine. I only recently started using wet strength and so far don't care much for it, at least not the brand I have.
Good to know. I'm not liking wet strength much yet. Except for basically soaking it in ink and water. I'm finding it is almost as fragile as regular and tears far too easily when I use it. Maybe it's more the brand than the product.
Thanks. This was helpful.
Hello, thank you for the video it’s great, can you tell me please the name of the Brush ( after 04:03 minutes ) and the size and maybe where did you order it ? I really wanna have that amazing brush 😊🙏
Thank you for your answer. Best regards Ole
This is a Simply Simmons XL size 50 filbert. I've included a link to it on the Blick Art Materials website (this IS an affiliate link). I'm not sure where else it is available if Blick doesn't work for you, but I'm sure it must be.
I LOVE this brush! It's soft, does not shed, and holds up to the abuse I put it through.

The brush is listed in her supply list with a link. Tap on more in the description.
Do you use wet-strength tissue paper?
Not usually. I mostly use plain inexpensive tissue made for wrapping. I only recently started using wet strength, and find I prefer it for only a few things. I try to always say if I'm using wet strength instead of regular.
