Dan and his brother remind me of me and my older sisters. My mom was in her late teens when she had them and she was in her mid thirties when she had me. They both harbor alot of resentment towards me because I got the mom they wanted. My oldest sister has let alot of it go but my other sister hasn't. Because I don't resent our mom like she does
Yeah, when something like that happens, it seems as though she went off and had another family and lives a different life with them. Sometimes, it’s deliberate, other times it’s not. Sometimes when they have kids early(teen years), they’ll struggle and raise the kids. Those kids grow up and leave the nest. Then, the mom is a bit older, but still relatively young and ends up wanting to have more children. So she’ll have one or two more kids, and she’s more relaxed and settled with these younger kids than she was with the older ones. +Destiny White In theory that should be how things go, the other side of it is that those older kids did still miss out on having the parent they needed at the time. When the Roseanne reboot began it was mentioned Jerry was working in Alaska on a fishing boat. As for Andy, I'm thinking there's possibly something darker coming up, as early in the reboot I recall Jackie stating 'Call me 'Aunt Jackie', it's the only title I've got."
Travis James well that's bullshit. Just erasing everything Jackie went through with her child's dad an everything. They shouldn't be allowed to do that if they're gonna keep Rosanne an Dan's last child around. Even though he hasn't appeared yet but still. They remove something from the original show and just add useless bull crap to this one that'll never live up to what once was unfortunately
The plot of this episode has several holes. I can see Big Ed keeping LIttle Ed and Angie away from Dan as Big Ed was kinda a jerk. But Crystal, with her being one of Dan and Roseanne's best friends, I would think that she would finally put her foot down and demand that Ed allowed Dan to have a relationship with his younger brother and sister.
Not exactly, if you remember the old show Crystal was to quote Rosanne and Jackie, She's a doormat, she would never stand up for herself. As Crystal herself put it she never had any self esteem, so the odds of her putting her foot down is very unlikely and even more unlikely is the fact that she would actually hold her ground if she did and would most likely back down if challenged.
They were crystals kids too and she was in the first season of Roseanne when it was brought back so that means she was around Dan so that would mean they would have been around Dan
I must admit John Goodman looked better and healthier when he had the weight on him ..... I mean yes he’s pushing close to 70 I get that but plenty of men age better than that or maybe he’s just aged gracefully without having work done.
I always think it's funny when you look at it the symbols of Great American dads there are a few TV stand outside really shine. Andy Griffith, Ward Cleaver, Mr C, James Evans senior, and Dan Conner. In my lifetime the Great American Dad has always been portrayed as someone who have to struggle just to keep food on the table. In retrospect one has to wonder is this just good dramatic television, or is it something more acute to the hardships and struggles the average American is facing
@@robertbusek30 Carl Winslow was humorous, but realistically he was never portrayed as struggling. They had a massive house, the kids always had the most stylish of clothes, all on the salaries of two people that couldn't afford any of it. And let's not forget they had that one daughter that just vanished and no one ever mentioned her again. I'm sorry but to be a great dad you at least have to give a damn when one of your children disappears. And if anyone tries to bring up the whole Chuck disappeared on Happy Days, well Chuck was an adult man at the time, and as my uncle always pointed out there's only one reason you would completely cut ties with your college age son in the 1950s and that was if you found out your son was gay. I'm not saying that that's the right thing to do, I am saying that it is very different than your elementary School age daughter just suddenly vanishing
My dad did this. He went and got remarried. Adopted her little boy she had at 14. She was barely 18 and he was 36. He wanted us when they first got together to show what a good dad he was and then when she didn't like us discarded us. Our 3 younger brothers hate my sister and I. Won't have any thing to do with us.
What a touching scene, and all they had to do to get this to work is to ignore the continuity of the original run of the show and ignore the continuity of the first season of the Conners. I wanted the show to be good but I had my doubts at the Roseanne was kicked out, but they have no talented writers apparently or they have people that will piss on continuity just for a bit of drama.
She left when Roseanne got fired. And I still refuse to believe what Roseanne said was racist. Given how she touched base on racism in so many older episodes. From & In the 90's at that. Its no secret Sarah wanted the spotlight, and Emma jumped on the bandwagon with her mouth. They kicked Roseanne to the curb and made a whole new show. But none of them would be who they are, if not for Roseanne. Let me mention the many child stars who appeared on Roseanne, and thats how they got their start to fame. From toby mcquire , to leo DiCaprio, to MR CLOONEY.. And many more. Down to Molly, the neighbor..
Clooney wasnt a child star, but him being on the show really got him Where he is today. And that's a FACT. Clooney played Booker. Jackie's love interest and boss, at the factory.
@@BwaKay3 With all due respect, ER made Clooney, not Roseanne (or Facts Of Life, on which he also had a bit part). Had it not been for his breakout on ER, he would arguably still be doing bit parts on television.
The original run made a mess of a lot of characters based on how pissed Roseanne was with people in her life or which actors didn't want to do the show anymore and the current seasons are just as bad. Jackie is supposed to have a kid, Roseanne and Dan had Jerry, Crystal was Roseanne's good friend who married Ed Sr and is Ed Jr's mom (also there's a daughter Angela). Dan and Ed Sr reconciled when Dan realized his own mom was mentally unwell and his Dad had been shielding him from it so he wouldn't think ill of her. All of this is ignored or swept away in the newer seasons. Very bad continuity.
It really is, bc nothing makes sense. And in the revise, they mentioned Andy but why? If they were never gonna show him. Ya know? It's all confusing. They should've never got rid of Roseanne. I refuse to believe anything Roseanne said was racist, this show wont go far without her, but i do still watch it. given all the many episodes abt Race, especially given DJ married Gina and had a very beautiful dark skin child full of glowy melanin. Roseanne, is still the GOAT to me.
Play a new record Derek. Its getting old. She obviously wasn't racist if Ann Marie was her best friend, she also had a granddaughter Who is half black and seen Roseanne with her the first renewed Roseanne and they were close.
@@derricknichols5787 Roseanne's entire series revolved around how everyone was Equal. The many episodes of it all, speaks for itself. We all thought the bitch was white, bc she legit looks white. Just like I'm mixed, but I'm on the lighter side. Nothing she said was racist. It was just bad timing. Given the debate is the only time she ever makes herself known. Roseanne bothers NOBODY. Roseanne paved the way for many child stars, and even George Clooney himself, and he was a grown man. He didn't have much of a name before she put him on HER show. Ppl throw racism around. When everyone in every day life, will call someone an ape, whether they are black or white or even chinese. Ppl made it bigger than what it was, and that's why The Conners is flopping. Roseanne isnt racist, and thats exactly why she brought Dj & Gina together to have a beautiful melanin daughter. She did this way before she spoke about that bitch, who still til this day, looks like an ape.🤷🏼
I'm glad in this saga, they kept that Dan's dad was a bad dad and that he took this crap because of how a psycho Dan's mom was and wanted to protect him. He just did that job too well that it went out of control. Unfortunately, all of his kids and step-son suffered. No one deserves that.
I thought Crystal was always been Lil' Ed's mother? I could be wrong though. On Roseanne, if I remember, Ed and Dan had a huge falling out over Dan's mother being put in an mental institute and also the fact he ended up Marrying Crystal (who ended up having Little Ed). But, I thought Ed and Dan ended up reconciling and wanted to be part of each others lives again...
@@sergie2822: Yes, but the mental health issue of Dan's mom wasnt wrote in until the end of Roseanne. Before the metal illness episode, Dan's mom was only in Roseanne once, in the 2nd season, for Thanksgiving. She was totally normal and owned her own travel agency, so the whole mental illness thing was kinda weird in the original series.
The original sitcom was pretty good, initially. The reboot is unrealistically dark. I keep expecting to find one of them cooking meth out in the garage.
So Chris Noth gets connected to John Goodman. The actor who plays Little Ed is also Dale Stucky on SVU, but before that he was the son of Joan Jett's character from the Criminal Intent ep where she's murdered by the stepmother who was attempting to turn the singer Jett's character had her son with in for a newer model in Jett's character's son. The Joan Jett ep was a Logan and Wheeler ep.

Another Shameless star. Imagine that. Dan and Ed were over their rough patch I thought. Wonder if Crystal and Ed were still married when he died. they must have gotten divorced. Ed became a hoarder. What about Ed's stepson Lonnie? There are a lot of holes and gaps to the history that shouldn't be hard to explain if they wanted to. Where is Jerry and Andy? Maybe they both are on that boat still with Chuck Cunningham. There is a wealth of material to write about. i Miss Roseanne. Hate me for saying it if you want. I don't care. I still love Jackie and Dan. They are the two reasons I still watch.
@@puddiesimms2818 i wish she had stood her ground. Now the conners aren't just poor. They're like the bundys. Complete with peg. I watch in hopes it gets better. It's hard to give up on this family. They still make me laugh. I just dont think Ed would turn his back on his son dan. Its out of character.😕
No one wins when a parent abandons one family to find fulfillment with another. It wasn't enough that Dan's father had to put him down his whole childhood because he was miserable being married to Dan's mother, he abandoned him with an unstable woman and offered no support for all of his adult life. Then suddenly he comes back, shacks up with Dan and Roseanne's widowed friend Crystal, has a couple more kids and actually goes out of his way to distance his old family from his new one!
So they Retcon Dan's dad back into some kind of deadbeat even though the original show did an episode where we learned Ed Sr. actually allowed the myth that he was an SOB to protect Dan from the knowledge of his mom's mental illness he'd rather Dan think he was a jerk over him thinking bad about his mom. Also Crystal was on the Reboot and this was never mentioned? OK.
That was Ed telling his side of the story. He still didn't spend much time with Dan since he was always on the road. Ed did the same thing to Crystal too.
But Dan's mom was never mentally ill or was it mentioned that she was mentally ill until the end of the series and it was oddly written in. Dan's mom was there for Thanksgiving in season 2, of Roseanne, and she is not mentally ill, she owns her own travel agency. Dan's mom's mental illness was weird to me when they wrote it in the original Roseanne.
@@pbj4338 Ed would often say Dan didn't understand everything and end it there and in season 6 everything about Dan's mom came out. Also in that same Thanksgiving episode there was no hints that Rosanne's dad was the monster he was later revealed to have been.
@@jokerz7936 Still even then he should of made time for Dan. The only time I recall them mentioning his mom's mental illness off the top of my head was during season 9 (the last season) and the last season had to be ignored. He still didn't visit too often I think the last time he was on Roseanne was around season 6 maybe?
Having an uninterested father, while the two youngest children get an awesome dad. Totally living this one 😂. Actually, it's not funny. It's quite painful and makes you question the very validity of your existence

Sort of. The Day of Darlene and David's Wedding he mention he hadn't talk to his father Ed for a while. Goes back being lied to about his Mother Metal State since he was a kid and Ed trying to cover it up to protect Dan.
Michael Miller you are absolutely right!! I went back and watched the 9th season again and it was like they had totally forgotten the episode where Dan got drunk and went over to Crystals and was telling her to leave Ed. Then Roseanne told Dan the truth about his parents.......that his mom was mentally ill and his dad had hid it from him all this life to protect the mother. Roseanne said “Ed would have rather you THINK that you had a bastard for a father than think bad about your mother” so Dan goes over to apologize for terrorizing Crystal and the kids and Ed is there and they make amends. I hate it when shows have continuity issues....LOL!! But I still love this show (the original one)!!
There are real continuity issues with this show. Where is Jackie’s son? Jerry García Connor? Crystal was married to Dan’s dad and there was a kid named Lonnie. Dan and his dad reconciled when his mother was committed....

@@milesmorris9333 I could've sworn that I heard it at the beginning of the year(september) but that might've just been a rumor.
Arthur Morgan it is and is doing well.
I count at least three actors from Shameless who are now appearing on The Conners. Is it because of the Chicago connection?
frisco21 it's because shameless is ending connection lol
Little Ed is back. Now where are Andy and Jerry?
When the Roseanne reboot began it was mentioned Jerry was working in Alaska on a fishing boat.
As for Andy, I'm thinking there's possibly something darker coming up, as early in the reboot I recall Jackie stating 'Call me 'Aunt Jackie', it's the only title I've got."
WhiteArrow76 I remember the fishing boat thing, but I still think he should be on the show or mentioned more. I hope nothing bad happens with Andy
According to the new producers Andy doesn’t exist. Bizarre, but true.
Taurus Girl Thank you!
I love Noel
Crystal was in a few episodes she got Darlene the job at that restaurant or the casino something like that???
why is show still on?
I must admit John Goodman looked better and healthier when he had the weight on him ..... I mean yes he’s pushing close to 70 I get that but plenty of men age better than that or maybe he’s just aged gracefully without having work done.
Some people do look better big.
So Mickey goes from being Debbie's brother-in-law to her uncle. Okay...
The dad from Family Matters should be added to this list.
@@bluebeard6189 - Good points! Were the Cunninghams ever portrayed as “struggling” on “Happy Days?” I don’t recall the show all that well.
@@robertbusek30 they almost lost their family business twice.
Ed jr kinda looks like Ned Betty
This show gets better and more layered each week!!!
Was that Crystals boy all grown up? I know Dans dad married her (against Dans wishes), and she had a son. Lonny, I think was his name.
William Meyer Lonny was Crystal's son from a previous relationship
i think this was little Ed
According to this scene little Ed had a sister. So did Ed and Crystal have another kid after Ed or did Lonnie have a sex change?
@@babygirl9397 in the original show, there was lonnie, then lil ed, then crystal got pregnant again and had a little girl.
@@kimidanger1150 thank you. I forgot she had the little girl
I somehow knew that they were gonna kill off Ned Beatty’s role of Ed Conner Sr cause he’s retired from acting and it would be moot to replace him.
I thought he died on real life.
@@loriannkeele4328 he may have by now
Maybe Ed Jr will be a regular or on a few guest episodes..
Letting all the heat out Dan close the damn door
HOLY SHIT ITA MICKY!!
I always knew Terry wasn't Mickey's real dad
What a touching scene, and all they had to do to get this to work is to ignore the continuity of the original run of the show and ignore the continuity of the first season of the Conners. I wanted the show to be good but I had my doubts at the Roseanne was kicked out, but they have no talented writers apparently or they have people that will piss on continuity just for a bit of drama.
I’m right in thinking that this is the kid he (Dan’s father) had with Crystal correct?
This show is still on
Isnt crystal his mom? Wasn’t she on this show awhile ago as a guest star?
Yes she is and she was in the return of the show when Roseanne was on it
She left when Roseanne got fired.
@@BwaKay3 molly the neighbor did the, The Last Boy Scout, b4 she did Roseanne.
Is this where everyone in Shameless is ending up? 😆
I hate how he doesn’t seem to be Crystal’s son.
Omg it's mickey from shameless!!!!! Oh yessssss! He is the best actor ever!!
Stuckey from SVU!
ouch the structure of this show has dive bombed since roseanne departure
Roseanne put her foot in her mouth, and now she's gone. I wonder how many time she called DJ's wife colored.
Hate rewritten history
That was crystals son with the father.. I gotta start watching.
The Shameless connection
I'm glad in this saga, they kept that Dan's dad was a bad dad and that he took this crap because of how a psycho Dan's mom was and wanted to protect him. He just did that job too well that it went out of control. Unfortunately, all of his kids and step-son suffered. No one deserves that.
Crazy seeing some of the cast of shameless on the show.
Is that fuckin Micky?! And Deb in one series lol
The kids are great 👍 but the old👴man and characters still got it
Are they retconning Crystal being Little Ed's mother?
PB & J oh yeah! I remember the mom being a travel agent. Totally agree that it was kind of odd. Seemed so out of place...
The original sitcom was pretty good, initially. The reboot is unrealistically dark. I keep expecting to find one of them cooking meth out in the garage.
I agree!! But sadly it also parallels the times
I never knew Dan had a little brother!
Yes a little half/brother and half/sister. I think Ed Jr. mentioned his sister in this episode.
Angela or Ruby?
He also has a stepbrother.
Yes he had a little half sister, his half brother little ed, and he has a step brother lonny.
TennantJunkie1993 he also plays Mickey Milkovich on Shameless.
@@winchesterangel2726 Someone already said that, but I thought L&O franchise first since I don't watch Shameless nor do I have Showtime. If I wanted to bring up connecting deepdive wise Tobey Maguire to John Goodman, I'd have said that.
What does any of this shit have to do with the cinners who the fuck cares who else this actor plays. Yes, rescan actor, utscwjat he does circa living.so you'll probably seem him on presentations from time. Ppl just shut up seriously!
He was also the son in The Riches," if anyone remembers that show. It starred Eddie Izzard and Minnie Driver as modern day gypsies or "travelers".
@@archiesimpson5172 And Dale Stuckey.
This is still on? With out roseann it just the same!
Howard Fuller so do I the show is not the same without Roseanne
@@brads4231 That was his job and Ed's side was backed by Dan's mom's multiple stays in mental health facilities both before and after meeting Ed.
(Dan's death, winning the lottery, etc.) Like the other comment mentioned Dan's mom seemed fine from previous visits. He still didn't visit too often I think the last time he was on Roseanne was around season 6 maybe?
Straight from the cast of shameless pt 2
Old man 👴 still got it
1:06 Great directing...just a touch was all that was necessary
Dan looks like Richard Lewis now that he's older rofl
Wow I didn't know that Noel was on the Connor
Drama, comedy, John Goodman is an underrated genius.
Guess no mention of Lonnie!!!
Alan Williams why does there need to be?
Lonnie's got a family of his own, so he probably left Lanford.
Having an uninterested father, while the two youngest children get an awesome dad. Totally living this one 😂. Actually, it's not funny. It's quite painful and makes you question the very validity of your existence
I never knew dan had a little brother
Noel Fisher is 36 and John Stephen Goodman is 67. That is a difference of 31 years, 8 months, and 22 days. How can Ed and Dan possibly have the same parents?
@@George040270 his father married crystal who is roseanne's age 30ish years ago? charlie chaplin had kids until he was 77, so his children ages spanned like 50 years
Dan brother from Shamless and Debbie on here 2.
It must’ve hurt Dan someone else got called Ed jr.
I don’t get it! Dan and his Dad reconciled in the original series!
But I still love this show (the original one)!!
it's the kid from Shameless
What about Jackie's son - has she even mentioned him in this reboot ???
They got rid of him. She never had a kid.
There are real continuity issues with this show. Where is Jackie’s son? Jerry García Connor? Crystal was married to Dan’s dad and there was a kid named Lonnie. Dan and his dad reconciled when his mother was committed....
