Huge credit to Radjabov. It was disheartening to see how much criticism he got prior to the event, but he proved those questioning why he was here wrong. Finishing 3rd is a huge accomplishment, congratulations.
Honestly thrilled for Ian, and big congrats to Ding, but the big standout for me was Rapport. Even though he didn't have a great result he came out with fire and to fight every single game, and just played some truly insane moves in so many games that actually weren't as simple as they appeared. I also just want to add that this Candidates solidified for me how truly exciting and amazing top level chess can be, and it's so great to see the interest rising again.
@@Sieupeaici312 I think people can underestimate just how valuable experience is in a top tournament like this. As someone who can't spend all day watching Chess live, your recaps have been a great way for me to catch up with the Candidates at the end of my day with a nice cup of tea.... thanks ! They were much appreciated.
These candidates recaps is the first series of videos by you that I follow religiously. The presentation is fun, well-paced, insightful and fair! The opening comparisons at the start of the game stand out for example: they are a quick overview of what has been played during the tournament (or during an obscure master's game). The pace and clarity in that phase of the recap stands out to me, and overall your recaps make me want to go through the games myself and discover more variations. That is your strength: you make me want more
I wouldn't mind seeing Ian vs Ding match up, this would be quite interesting, and I feel like Magnus can just leave if he feels like it, and come back to take his crown if he remains strong enough. So whatever the match up will be, it's gonna be great either way, and I don't think that we would loose out on anything.
Think that Magnus literally would care, though. Would probably lose an enormous amount of income from sponsorships and whatnot if he were to refuse to defend his title.
@@JohirulIslam-vj6bl if Hensch can commentate then so can Gotham...there obviously would need to be a strong gm next to him, like Hess or Danya, which would work out since they are good friends. But I would prefer Levy just Streaming the event himself.

I really hope Alireza bounces back after this tournament. I still believe he’s the next Magnus level player. A couple things I - arm chair critic that I am - think he needs to work on from this tournament: 1. I get the impression that his endgame play still needs improvement. He’s young and so brilliant in dynamic positions that perhaps he hasn’t needed to work on endgames as much until now. He’s a phenomenal calculator so I think eventually he’ll be brilliant in the endgame. 2. He needs to fix his posture. As someone in their early 30s that sort of neck craning will cause discomfort over long matches. And discomfort can lead to calculation errors. There’s a reason why Magnus Carlsen changed how he sat at the chessboard several years ago. You can’t think as well if you’re in pain. I do hope Magnus keeps defending his title. I do see parallels between Karpov’s career and Carlsen’s and I hope that Alireza finally pushes Carlsen to achieve his full potential. And that, Alireza gets a bunch of “chess lessons” from Carlsen just as Kasparov did from Karpov.
I also love Alireza and I think this tournament has been really good for him. One other thing he could improve is his strategic thinking. Not in terms of chess moves, but more of the common sense decisions. For example, after staying up until 5 to play 250 hyperbullet games against Danya, he was clearly not his usual self, so he should have played for a quick draw against Nepo but he played for a win and got smashed
Alireza is really quite Karpovian in style and is a strong endgame player, look at his win against Fabi - his forced attempts at playing tactically undid him.
I'm so happy for Radja. Actually if he won one more game, maybe one in the first half when it looked he was kinda keeping his punches, he would have ended up SECOND. Crazy to think about

Of course the amazing story of Ding Liren who came back strong enough to show why he is world no.2 chess player. He lost to Nepo with the white pieces in the 1st round, winning back to back 3 rounds in the 2nd half of the tournament & winning the last game against Hikaru made him win the clear 2nd place. Hikaru Nakamura was impressive too throughout the tournament which is why he is tied for the 3rd place with another fascinating player named Teimour Radjabov. Out of nowhere Teimour Radjabov also played some exciting chess & we didn't expected him to finish at 3rd place. Fabiano Caruana was literally tilting during the entire 2nd half of the Candidates Tournament. We could see that in the last round too against Alireza Firouzja. Richard Rapport played some crazy games. Duda tried his best but couldn't surprise anyone. Overall it was fun rooting for the players. And it is upto Magnus Carlsen to decide whether he will defend his title or not. Let's see what unfolds in the upcoming days.

20:45 when fabi crushed hikaru I thought he was going to win the candidates but what happened next is so weird..
Ding's match was like squeezing water out of the stone. It was very reminiscent of magnus.
Even though I watched most of the rounds live, I like to rewatch it with you commenting on the moves, I like the way you describe the moves and make it easy for someone barely above 1200 rate to understand the game. Huge thanks for creating these videos.
So many amazing storylines throughout this tournament. Big thanks to all the players for the entertainment, and congratulations to Ian. Good stuff Levy.
Could do a " What If? " series, and try and simulate matches like Fischer vs Carlsen including potential endings to show how either party may take a win
