@@GeraldM_inNC You don't have to be a chess expert to understand that after a very exhausting tournament, winning a tricky position in time trouble isn't easy. Most of the experts never made it to the candidates, let alone were in Fabi's nerve wrecking spot, so what do they really know? The commentators stated how nervous they were, how must it have felt for Fabi? The guy who had prepared for this moment for months/years, sitting in the spotlight, cameras pointed at him, and no evaluation bar in sight. At that point it's not about chess but Fabi's mental state. As in any spot, you're smarter in hindsight. Usually the experts and journalists make a lot of drama out of it, kind of riding the high horse and acting like smartasses. That often becomes apparent by the statements they make and questions they ask to the athletes. I have the same impression about many chess experts and commentators. I guess the simplest analogy are penalties in football (soccer). In training you'd have no problem scoring most of the times, but in a champions league final, shooting the deciding penalty, is much more difficult. Of course, any player should be able to score a penalty, but depending on the situation and your mental state, it becomes the hardest thing of your life.
I appreciate so much that you don't show the evaluation bar during your analysis, Agad! It keeps me from being distracted and helps my learn by listening to you and your teaching!
Fabi folding like a deck of cards when winning. It's incredibly disappointing as I was cheering for him to finally reach the end & become a world champion.
I was pulling for Fabi too. But this wasn't his first time folding in a huge moment under time pressure. He seems destined to be forever top 10 but never number 1.
It's hard to blame Fabi though. Many of those huge advantages were engine lines that are hard enough to find when you have time on the clock - much less so where Fabi was. Nepo deserves credit for playing all those tricks and putting the ball in his opponent's court. Can't be easy in the situation and with so many pieces still on the board (understandable again since trading increases the likelihood of a draw).

Missing your Rapid plays a lot too. 😢
Gukesh played almost all engine moves, most of them were top engine moves, the rest were second or third engine choices. He didn't make a single bad move, a single inaccuracy, a single blunder. That speaks for itself, or maybe not. I would really like to see the overall accuracy of Gukesh's moves, I believe it is not below 95%. Hikaru had no chance of winning against such a game, he took as much as he could.
Are you a serious player? Hikaru literally made 0 effort to win. The least you can do to win is not offer a queen trade, even a school boy would know this. I am not trying to find faults, but don't glorify a meek attempt.
He broke a lot of things including his virginity, by screwing haters' hopes and the title of tha youngest world champion. One thing he didnt break was gentlemanly conduct which is equally if not more impressive. Its good to see Gukesh continuing the legacy of Anand and Ding.
Congrats Gukesh. Cool he's proved that age is just a number. Had he played Vidit or Pragg in the final and won, everybody would have run to Fide to cry match fixing. In their wisdom, fide organised the tournament the way they did, so that such questions did not arise. The tournament was so well organised At least Nepo never lost a match though he lost the perpetual candidates title he's been holding. I feel for him. America just needs to be patient. They'll get there. Kudos all players. It was an exciting unpredictable candidates. It surprised even Magnus the legend, of all people. He who knows everything about chess
Did that final move KxBe3 9:41 actually occur on the board and in the records or was that just for illustrative purposes? Just wondering, because technically, the game did not end with 2 kings, it ended one move previously with 2 kings and 1 bishop. The one bishop is insufficient means. The move of taking the bishop occurred after the game was over.
That’s why myself being a Gukesh fan I watched via chess base India I’m not sure what racism you speak of or from who but you don’t have to tell me because it’s everywhere I’m good I rooted for my Dude and he won I’m so Happy
A great day for us Indians that Gukesh created history. But let's not forget that the 2 favourites of this tournament played the most incredible game of the tournament to close it out. Fabi and Nepo just showed what happens when 2 top players go all out and play for a win. In the end, it just had to be a draw😊
Gukesh and Ding have had a somewhat similar journey to the candidates and then winning it in the end. Both of them were not supposed to qualify but due to last minute tournament scramble made it to the candidates. Both of them faced Hikaru in the finals with a similar do or die situation!
Between the two - the chess world championship and a whiny girl who sits home and throws tantrums- i will choose to care about the world championship. Well done Gukesh, you are the champ.
Fabi's 39.Bh7?? was a terrible move, even in time pressure. It was clear even to me (FIDE 1985) that Nepo would suddenly have chances by giving up the exchange. Fabi's 41.Ka1? was not easy to find . . . but he did have the extra 30 minutes at that time and only spent a couple of minutes making this move. I hate to say it, but Caruana choked at the key moments in this game (he later missed a win with the Qe8+, Qe2+ plan).
I wonder if it would have been as clear to you if you had been playing 5-7 hours of high stress, high level chess almost everyday for the past 3 weeks, and had gone through all the same highs and lows fighting for a dream you've fought for your entire life. But of course we'll never know.
He was extremely low on time and Bh7 isn't that terrible. It is not objectively best, but white still has the advantage and it could be converted to win. My guess is that he wanted to simplify the position by going into an endgame being up the exchange. Once they reached move 40, he choked hard and that alone shows he does not deserve it. He had the time and blundered.

Real shame that Fabi didn't beat Nepo, that would've been a good match but Gukesh is super cool (amazing for a young dude) while Fabi can get rattled. Bro he is not 17 😭 I've been hearing he's 17 since he entered chess world.
@@totallynotalazyguy737 Yes he is, his birthday is may 29th 2006
@@totallynotalazyguy737 He was born on 29 May 2006 so yes, he is still 17.
FYI he entered the chess world and started making headlines at 15.
Ding is way too strong for Gukesh.
Agad, thank you for all the videos throughout this tournament. I enjoyed watching them all!
Fabi blew this game. Many times Neppo had a lost position from his crazy but ultra brilliant play but drew it in the end. Fabi for a while will study this and keep asking how the hell did I not win
This was the most exciting draw I ever followed. Nepo had to fight like a lion to achieve it.
That's the kind of comment I'd write if I had no idea about chess.
@@Toopa88 I guess then that you must be the greatest chess player in the world, since most of the comments on this and other forums as web as the experts on the livestreams agree with the comment that you dismiss as ignorant.
Fabi should have won the candidates before the final match, he should be disappointed in his overall performance
@@quazzydiscman there is something to be said for being top 10, you know
It's hard to blame Fabi though.
@@arvindhmani06exactly 💯

Gukesh ..... the phenomenal player and the calmness of this gentleman is awesome.. Thank you GUKESH for this MOMENT! AS being INDIAN
Dear Agadmator
Your commenntry of a chess game is so impeccable & exciting that a person like me who does not follow chess religiously also finds it interesting.
My 9 year old son has just started playing chess is also following your videos.
Thanks & Keep posting such Wonderful contents.
Man, cant believe every other player resigned as a meme and Abasov is the new contender.
I was so happy when he qualified for the candidates and he delivered on the event!
On another note, that game with Nepo and Fabi was incredible. What a stressful game
if Gukesh beats Ding, i hope he will request a 1-1 challenge vs Magnus
5:48 If Qa5 then Bf2 with a discovered on the queen, and not the knight move shown. 15:26 you will not be up a pawn, there's 4 each. Amazing content, thank you!
If Gukesh wins WC, Magnus needs to come back and challenge him again so we can know who is better haha

Dude! I am improving!! My chess were shitty at there best, but I found myself improving a lot. Even in some recent games, the stupid Silicon overlord sometime rates me as 'almost 2000' in Rapid games!
Thanks to you. My analysis and tactics improved a lot. I am in your debt. Missing your Rapid plays a lot too. 😢
What a tournament for gukesh! Wp
26:55 Here Rook to E7, which is the only move that doesn't win !
Had me rollin!
Amazing tournament all around. Glad Magnoose wasn't part of it so that we could have this grand spectacle to watch.
I think this was a nice glimpse into what top level chess would look like if the rules were changed slightly to avoid draws.
It's 98.2 percent Gukesh accuracy
Are you a serious player? Hikaru literally made 0 effort to win. The least you can do to win is not offer a queen trade, even a school boy would know this. I am not trying to find faults, but don't glorify a meek attempt.
Spectacular, nicely played Gukesh!
Gukesh will be world champion before he loses his virginity
You were right .he's WC now🎉❤
He broke a lot of things including his virginity, by screwing haters' hopes and the title of tha youngest world champion. One thing he didnt break was gentlemanly conduct which is equally if not more impressive. Its good to see Gukesh continuing the legacy of Anand and Ding.
I don’t think I’ve enjoyed any chess analysis video like this one.
Simply marvelous
Congrats Gukesh. Cool he's proved that age is just a number.
Had he played Vidit or Pragg in the final and won, everybody would have run to Fide to cry match fixing. In their wisdom, fide organised the tournament the way they did, so that such questions did not arise. The tournament was so well organised
At least Nepo never lost a match though he lost the perpetual candidates title he's been holding. I feel for him.
America just needs to be patient. They'll get there. Kudos all players.
It was an exciting unpredictable candidates. It surprised even Magnus the legend, of all people. He who knows everything about chess
What a great coverage. Thanks agadmator
Gukesh is a beast
Bravo Gukesh ,never expected it but bravo young man 😊
We need a video reviewing magnus predictions VS the results
😂😂 Magnus is in a shock.
Glad to see the civil audience of agad's chess channel.
The racism in the chess24 chat was unbearable.

A great day for us Indians that Gukesh created history. But let's not forget that the 2 favourites of this tournament played the most incredible game of the tournament to close it out. Fabi and Nepo just showed what happens when 2 top players go all out and play for a win. In the end, it just had to be a draw😊
#suggestion at 7:08, why not Rook to A1 was played??? Could have won a piece!
Easy for Ding. He will retain his world championship title.

Gukesh and Ding have had a somewhat similar journey to the candidates and then winning it in the end. Both of them were not supposed to qualify but due to last minute tournament scramble made it to the candidates. Both of them faced Hikaru in the finals with a similar do or die situation!
Interesting
As a Magnus fan , I’m very happy that NOT hikaru NOR fabi won it…
They were threat to us.
Idc about gukesh
You'll care when Gukesh beat Magnus. Lol. Not now. but after some time.
Mate, congrats to Gukesh for winning but that's very unlikely to happen
Between the two - the chess world championship and a whiny girl who sits home and throws tantrums- i will choose to care about the world championship. Well done Gukesh, you are the champ.
this kid has it all, he has what few have, the mental, emotional balance
Fabi has a long history of finding the only losing move. I don't think he'll ever be world champion.

For me, that was the move that cost him the game. He never recovered from it. Terrible move.
Fabi just isn't that guy
He was extremely low on time and Bh7 isn't that terrible. It is not objectively best, but white still has the advantage and it could be converted to win. My guess is that he wanted to simplify the position by going into an endgame being up the exchange. Once they reached move 40, he choked hard and that alone shows he does not deserve it. He had the time and blundered.
@@wemijeiwe saw the same thing with Ding trying to quickly draw the last game. In such cases patience definitely is a virtue.

definitely being dumb here but, at 17:48, why cant fabi just capture the knight with the bishop? Wouldnt it go bxd7, rxd7, qxd7, qxd7, rxd7, then the pawn goes to h2 and the rook comes back to d1 to defend the promotion?

Now he is the youngest champion!!
Real shame that Fabi didn't beat Nepo, that would've been a good match but Gukesh is super cool (amazing for a young dude) while Fabi can get rattled. Fabi made an automatic Ka1against Nepo instead of the weird looking Ka2 and that was the crucial error. Nepo defended well, made Fabi work for the win and FAbi wasn't good enough. Gukesh is an amazing talent and will spank Ding easily in my opinion. He needs to have a match with real opposition, the one and only Magnus
Big congratulations to Gukesh on winning the Candidates tournament. And thank you Antonio for this fabulous coverage of the tournament.
Ok just watched your video the day after the candidates was over because i just couldn't handle it yesterday. I can't imagine how the players felt after that.
Have you considered using an Eval Bar during your videos? I watched these games live and the wild swings back and forth from a winning position to level back to winning and so on was so crazy. It would really enhance the viewing if you could see exactly what was going on.
All the opportunities presented themselves for fabi more than hikaru and nepo, he literally let it slip
Good for Gukesh, he played good chess and astonishinhlg achievement at his age. Having said that, the candidates is a bit of a "lottery", the element of luck being in the order of the games and other results. It's a very different game when one has to play against you with white or black, indifferent, looking for a draw or only for a win. And someone is always luckier than others in results and order of a limited set of games that other people played between them.
