I am kinda rooting for Hassleblad with this system, honestly the images that people have been posting have just a different look that is extremely pleasing and powerful. Hopefully they can find their customers. Look forward to seeing more work done with it.
@@luchonexOhh, I am 100% sure Phase One is the "bad guy" here. Capture one doesn't read Tiff raw files from Hasselblad cameras, but if you use a EXIF editor and change the camera name to like Fujifilm GFX. Ta-da! Capture one suddenly reads files without any problem.

It dates back to a very old row (roughly 20 years!) between phase one (then owner of C1) and Hasselblad, when the Swedes decided to have own digital backs and closed their H series to third parties backs, P1 included.

I was on a Leica photo workshop for landscape photography at Patagonia. One of the participants brought this camera. Most of use had SL3s and the amazing 24-90 and 90-280 lenses. My jaw dropped when I saw the image quality of the Hasselblad. I told him he was like that one kid in school that told first graders that there was no Santa Claus. I know Leica is working on a mirrorless replacement for the medium format S3, so it's not fair comparing the full frame SL3, but holy moly, that Hasselblad is amazing.

Matt, completely agree. Color is exceptional. Image quality and raw file flexibility is insane. It needs a joystick, but you can designate the lower right hand quadrant of the LCD as a proxy for the entire screen, so you don't have to extend the thumb as far. The kit is so light, yet so powerful. I have found it a joy to use.
Matt, you deserve this kind of camera - all the work you've done, sharing photography, and especially analogue photography, has put vintage cameras and the like on the map on RUclips. Hasselblad are making moves, man! I'm happy to see so many talented RUclipsrs getting a chance to use this kit extensively. The images you've made thus far are AWESOME. Keep it up, bud. I've never considered selling my Sony gear. I've used their cameras and lenses since the NEX-7 days. I know I'd be trading a lot of functionality if I were to switch, but there's something to be said about being excited to pick up the camera itself. If the gear lust gets me to make images again, then so be it.
That camera in that silky black is a real looker! Two things that would hold me back (other than cost) is I like to adapt lenses and doing so would relegate me to shooting with its electronic shutter which I’m assuming will suffer from massive rolling shutter. And I don’t need 100 mp all the time; I wish more high-megapixel cameras had a double or triple rez function like the M11.
Seems like an awesome camera, personally I will probably only buy used when it comes to digital. Hasselblads are made so well that I would not be afraid to buy a 3 or 4 year old camera because it still would have a lot of life left.

Hi there. The moving of the autofocus points can be made also by mapping the rear wheel when it’s pressed to select de af point and from there you can move the af points horizontally or vertically by turning the front and back wheel. It’s not a joystick indeed but it could be useful, I think :)

@@mattdayphoto You’ll find it much easier than your right thumb, I’ve been using an X1Dii for a few years now and also X2D this past year, very nice machines that take some learning but you’ll be cruising once the muscle memory is there.
No comparison with the GFX you used to have? I always like your videos, Matt, but this Hassy campaign is kind of too much to me. The camera looks nice, but I think it is just a hype. Is it way better than the GFX? Does it focus faster? Are the lenses better than the 1.7 GFs or the 110mm? Is the color science a miracle made by swedish Gods?

Different tools for different purposes. Compare Fuji, Leica S and Hasselblad. All medium format. I have Leica M, SL and Q cameras. The M is great for fully manual mode with a lot lenses going back to the 1930s. Medium format is aesthetically beautiful, but fully auto with a much bigger sensor and not as versatile for anything outside of landscaping shooting. Don't get me wrong. I'd love to add the Hasselblad to my kit. But we all know it will blow away any full frame or smaller sensor.
I normally use the touch screen to act like a joystick, but totally agree with u since the camera does not have a tracking autofocus. btw, see u in philly in two weeks! Great video as always
1) appreciate the opening disclosure, that’s more than we’ve gotten from most others about how Hassy is handling this marketing deal with YTers 2) can’t you use the lower left side of the LCD with your left hand as the joystick per the latest firmware? 3) the fact that you can’t use autoISO in M mode irks me more than it should…a meter should be a meter in all modes 😂 4) the lack of portrait tilt feels like a deal breaker for a $8000 camera

Great that you have the Hasselblad X2D. I had a 500CM with 80mm lens and the 180 mm. Loved that camera with 3 backs. I shot slides , B&W, Color negs. Have used the the X2D at a dealer's store for a afternoon. Could you do a review shooting in B&W on the X2 as I know You have a love for B&W as I do? Both square format and rectangle
I have been debating endlessly about trading in my 907x 50cii for the X2D. The more I do portrait work and want to start using flash more it’s making sense. But… I do love the joystick on the 907x grip. I just got it lol.
Congrats on the camera. The price of the lens alone would make it a hard decision. It is certainly a dream camera. I'm not sure I'd feel safe carrying that around every day.
It’s an excellent camera. I find the focus point moving to be a non issue. Until this camera I shot a Leica M11. You can’t move the focus point on that either, so I just shot this the same way.
I always thought having a Hasselblad digital camera would be amazing, but after watching all the youtubers who got these free cameras in return for a video, I have changed my mind. There is no disputing the camera is a work of art - and priced accordingly - but for the price, it doesn't have some basic things like official weather sealing, limited screen movement (only tilts upward), no joystick, etc. Not to mention the ridiculous size of the raw files and the equipment you need to own to manipulate those files. And frankly, when I see some of the youtubers showing their photos taken with the Hasselblad, they don't look any different than photos taken with other brands' high end models that have all the features that the Hasselblad is missing. So, for me, while I absolutely love the design and build quality of the Hasselblad, this marketing has backfired. If I am ever going to dump anywhere near that kind of money on a camera, it is going to be fully featured, still take amazing photos, and have access to a lot more lens options
What you've discovered is that the photographer matters vastly more than the camera, and that the vast majority of digital cameras are capable of taking great photos.
@BlazeFirereign while there are certain features in a camera that do make a difference, depending on what it is being used for (ie fps for fast sports), I generally agree. I have a 42mp Sony FF and a 12 year old 16mp Fuji apsc, and for day-to-day use, the Fuji photos are every bit as good as the Sony photos.
Do a review next time by going out to take photos and take us along for that journey… talking about the camera is dead boring when it’s been out for a longtime
Matt, I’ve been following you for a couple of years, and love your posts - your style is honest and refreshing. I finally purchased my penultimate camera with the Leica M11-P and a couple of lenses. I love it, and ….. But I’ve had my eye on the X2D. I’ve held it a few times. I understand the slow focus, but that doesn’t bother me. My style of shooting these days is more travel/street than kids sports, etc. But, one thing I LOVE with the M11 is zone focusing, and essentially using the M11 with 28 cron as a point and shoot. I tried (in a camera store) to set the X2D up for this, and was struggling. Love to know your thoughts on this - and whether you could see this replacing your digital M? Also, will be anxious to see your thoughts on this camera, converted to monochrome, vis-a-vis a monochrome M…. Love you and your channel. You should certainly host a workshop!
@@mattdayphoto Sure you did. But I am surprised about that you didn’t had to much to say in your thoughts after two months. I had this camera for 4 weeks and I could tell you much more about what needs criticism and what is really outstanding. You’re criticizing things like IP54, or the „missing joystick“. Both things you normally might be aware, before you buy this camera. Nevertheless you demonstrate that you were able to use the camera in rain, which is nice. But what happens, if something happens? Warranty case? In my opinion it doesn’t make sense to talk about thinks which are obviously not part of the „Hassy package“. Here my thoughts. It would more interesting to hear your thoughts about the battery. After my experience, around 150 pictures could be taken with one battery - this is unacceptable. Or the really bad EVF (red and green splitting happening on the outer edges of the EVF screen). The bad experience with the refreshing rate of the evf (60Hz) which gives sometimes the impression that the middle of the screen is blurry, not crispy The missing possibility to have auto ISO in manual mode, which maybe could be solved with a firmware update. The AF is really bad after my experience. This is not only the case by using it in bad light situations, also in backlight nearly no chance to fix the object. Even if you take the AF for objects which don’t move, the AF failed sometimes. Which can only be seen by cropping in. Agree with you about the missing possibility to flip the screen. I don’t get why it is only possible to expand the monitor by 70 degrees, not 90. Unfortunately the view to the screen is partially hided by the EVF. After all, Yes, I didn’t get the camera for free. I am not supported from Hasselblad. Maybe this is why my thoughts are different from yours. I didn’t buy the camera because of this issues. Nevertheless I loved the colors, the perfect work of Phocus and Phocus Mobile 2. I love the lenses, I tested three, because they are light and the possibility to change from AF to MF is lovely. I don’t miss the joystick. Because the strength of the camera is not the EVF, it is the monitor on the back and the manual focus. And as mentioned before from other, it is easy to use the back screen with your left thumb to fix a subject, or object. I used this camera nearly 70-80% with the monitor. Normally I take the EVF (Leica SL3, or Canon R3), 80-90%. In the end I would say, if colors are the main reason to buy a camera, saving a lot of time not to post process the taken photos, Hasselblad x2d 100c is the right choice if you can afford it. If your focus is nearly a little bit more the technical performance of a camera, you might need to think about, if you could live with the things I experienced.
It’s a nicely designed camera but I feel like you can get the same shots on virtually any digital these days, there’s very little need for all the resolution
I had to go the poor boy route and got a used X1DII for $5K less then the X2D and their bargain lens a used 45P. Same great color science and probably the best bang for the buck. The X2D is certainly a much improved version but for my work the X1DII more than does the job if the photographer does his job. I shot manual for the longest time and today people are spoiled with fast autofocus, IBIS, tilt screens, and such. So if anyone wants to move up to Hasselblad, there are options. The images their cameras and lenses produce are the best in the market place.
This is awesome 👌...I own a GFX 100s ii...if you can afford this get a GFX 100S ....it's slower but it's awesome The Blad is amazing but out of reach for many I could buy one but I chose Fuji instead and don't regret The cost of lenses for hasleblad is crazy 🤪 Congrats 👏
It seems mainly for studio applications. I shoot a lot in outside and in cold environments. Hence, I am wearing gloves a lot. So a camera of that ambition and price not having a joystick is mind-blowing and therefore absolutely no option for any avid outdoor photographers.
Nice review. Out of curiosity, did you try selecing the right or the top-right area of the touch display as the touchpad when using the EVF? This is addressed on page 105 of the manual and can help avoid the need to hyper extend your thumb to get the focusm point where you want it. 🙂. FWIW, you can also select from left top left, bottom left or bottom right if they work better for you.
As for your joystick comment, did you know there's a setting in the menu where you can map the movment of the af points to the top right of the screen when your eye is up at the camera? Makes it so your thumb doens't have to reach as far over.
Man I would love to have one (about as close as you’re gonna get to replacing my Mamiya 6/7) but a used GFX 100s is about as much money as I can stomach. The xcd lenses are crazy expensive so used bodies aren’t really feasible (for me).
Hey man, I would be very interested in lthe ow light capabilities of this sensor. My biggest struggle with film is that I mostly shoot at dusk/dawn for which I always in need of a tripod and sometimes crazy exposure times. Sure, 4x5 and 6x7 dusk shots are truly magical, but for a "complimentary" 2nd camera I am thinking about getting a digital one. Shooting 4x5 and medium format just eliminates the full frame digital options completely, and I can't seem to find any reviews on a handheld photowalk let's say from sunset to ó1,5 hour after sunset for any of the new medium format cameras.

I find it funny how no manufacturer really gets it all correct, even at the top tier level and pricing. Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely not hating, but by now doncha think some discussions would have been had over omitting basics like joysticks or a relatively limiting tilt screen? On the other hand this camera is dope for having all these crop modes (adding to the fact you can tick a box and choose the ones you want to cycle through, AND change opacity, very neat!). Or the built in storage etc! Surely someone somewhere is employed within a brand with a notepad and pen to take notes on other reviews of cameras and say 'ah that is a good point, that's a good feature, we'll add that too!', yet we're met with release after release with products refusing to embrace strengths or traits of other brands and instead be stubborn with their own limited ideas with reluctance to change. So bizarre (especially when you consider the higher competitiveness nature of smartphones which do seem more eager to copy ideas from one another). To me it feels like we could get closer to that perfect camera if someone was simply note taking properly.
I have been talking about JOYSTICK since day one for that camera! If they put a joystick, I am sure they will sell much more. It is horrible to constantly touch the screen for changing the focusing point! I have GFX100 and GFX100 II and I will buy one Hassy if they put joystick on the X3D!
hey Matt if you have contacts at Hasselblad can you please ask them to release an updated 120 macro? It's incredibly frustrating to have have this system be SO capable for flash photos without a current production macro lens =/
will the Hasselblad color technology still be present and visible when the raw files are in lightroom? Everytime i open a Canon raw file for the first time in lightroom (or basically every camera's raw file) there suddenly appears a huge shift in color, contrast, hue etc. and i always have the impression there is an 'adobe taste' printed on the file.
I'm interested in your experience with editing/managing the files. Are they a pain to edit because of the huge size? Any thoughts on file sizes vs. storage space?
I'm jealous of all these photographers getting free X2D systems sent to them haha! One thing I did notice with the display model of the X2D that my camera store has is that the sensor for switching from the LCD to the viewfinder seems to be quite slow when bringing the camera up to my eye. I changed the sensor sensitivity but this didn't really have an effect. Did you notice this at all with yours?
X2D owner here. What you said is 100% true, switching between LCD and EVF is slow, and the latency of that EVF is quite noticeable as well. Just using LCD instead unless under direct sunlight is the best option.
@@mattdayphoto agreed that 55mm is awesome. Seems like 2024 is the year of the 43mm FF equivalent. Hopefully at some point you can do a video comparing it to the new Q 43.
I will say that DJI can design a really nice camera. I like this form factor better than the FUJI and the menu system looks great. Also, why hasn't anyone else done internal storage?
Hey Matt- I have the X2D and love it, even though the files are enormous. Have you used the Hasselblad Phocus software? If so, what are your thoughts on it. PS - Great video, as usual.
Phocus, especially for color work is essential, IMO. Lightroom, or DxO just don't handle or offer the color handling Phocus has. It's the only camera I feel this way about, but 1000% start any Hassy work in Phocus.
Sorry Matt but usually I love your videos , but this one left an uneasy feeling about where things are going , we would all take a free Blad , but it reminds me of a politician taking a gift !

smart move from marketing department or whoever decided to give the camera to youtuber :D The company would need to spend way more to hire someone shoot/edit/publish the camera after months of usage, not to mention the potential reach generated from their audience and a professional review camera.
@wizdeas6064 i get what you mean but there is no such things as 'perfect camera' for everyone. Most, if not all, reviewer will try their best to stand at middle ground because they understand that. Is this X2D worth the money? It depends on your budget and reference. You can choose to save more than half the cost with GFX 100 series (same sony sensor) or if image quality is what you aiming for, go for PhaseOne :D The point is as buyers we should be smart enough to know our needs and limitation, not just relying on someone opinion.
c'mon, Fujifilm built their whole market share with a massively successful influencer campaign... from X100 v1 onwards. Doesn't mean the cameras aren't great, but they've given away PLENTY.
Does it annoy you that Hasselblad are seeing success with effective marketing? Or perhaps that people love using the cameras? There are plenty of objective benefits to the GFX system. There's certainly no denying that it wins on value, and *objectively* there's little that the X2D can do which a 100S can't. And yet, some people buy the Hasselblad, because they subjectively prefer its output, and/or subjectively prefer the feel and experience of using it. And given that photography is inherently subjective, as a creative art form, those subjective factors matter a hell of a lot to the enjoyment that people derive from it, and the results they get.

The X3D whenever it comes needs modern autofocus. One can hope, especially at this price point.
They definitely seem to be investing a lot into this system with all of their latest lenses, so I’m also curious what the roadmap will look like.

Great camera and good review, so thanks for sharing. Scanavians are much too minimalist for a joystick though, no matter how many people ask I don't think they'll sacrifice the aesthetics...It does get easier to use over time! Cheers
Hi there. The moving of the autofocus points can be made also by mapping the rear wheel when it’s pressed to select de af point and from there you can move the af points horizontally or vertically by turning the front and back wheel.
It’s not a joystick indeed but it could be useful, I think :)

Use your left thumb on the lower left of the screen and you can move the focus point around quite quickly and accurate.

@@mattdayphoto You’ll find it much easier than your right thumb, I’ve been using an X1Dii for a few years now and also X2D this past year, very nice machines that take some learning but you’ll be cruising once the muscle memory is there.

No comparison with the GFX you used to have? I always like your videos, Matt, but this Hassy campaign is kind of too much to me. The camera looks nice, but I think it is just a hype. Is it way better than the GFX? Does it focus faster? Are the lenses better than the 1.7 GFs or the 110mm? Is the color science a miracle made by swedish Gods?
apply a linear profile to raw from the gfx and from the hasselblad and you will obtain EXACTLY the same image.

Different tools for different purposes. Compare Fuji, Leica S and Hasselblad. All medium format. I have Leica M, SL and Q cameras. The M is great for fully manual mode with a lot lenses going back to the 1930s. Medium format is aesthetically beautiful, but fully auto with a much bigger sensor and not as versatile for anything outside of landscaping shooting. Don't get me wrong. I'd love to add the Hasselblad to my kit. But we all know it will blow away any full frame or smaller sensor.

1) appreciate the opening disclosure, that’s more than we’ve gotten from most others about how Hassy is handling this marketing deal with YTers
2) can’t you use the lower left side of the LCD with your left hand as the joystick per the latest firmware?
3) the fact that you can’t use autoISO in M mode irks me more than it should…a meter should be a meter in all modes 😂
4) the lack of portrait tilt feels like a deal breaker for a $8000 camera

Great that you have the Hasselblad X2D. I had a 500CM with 80mm lens and the 180 mm. Loved that camera with 3 backs. I shot slides , B&W, Color negs. Have used the the X2D at a dealer's store for a afternoon. Could you do a review shooting in B&W on the X2 as I know You have a love for B&W as I do? Both square format and rectangle
I have been debating endlessly about trading in my 907x 50cii for the X2D. The more I do portrait work and want to start using flash more it’s making sense. But… I do love the joystick on the 907x grip. I just got it lol.

Congrats on the camera. The price of the lens alone would make it a hard decision. It is certainly a dream camera. I'm not sure I'd feel safe carrying that around every day.

It’s an excellent camera. I find the focus point moving to be a non issue. Until this camera I shot a Leica M11. You can’t move the focus point on that either, so I just shot this the same way.

It's the only digital camera I'd stop using my Leica M for. And that's saying a lot. Would rather have a 40MP version with some big ol pixels.

I always thought having a Hasselblad digital camera would be amazing, but after watching all the youtubers who got these free cameras in return for a video, I have changed my mind. There is no disputing the camera is a work of art - and priced accordingly - but for the price, it doesn't have some basic things like official weather sealing, limited screen movement (only tilts upward), no joystick, etc. Not to mention the ridiculous size of the raw files and the equipment you need to own to manipulate those files. And frankly, when I see some of the youtubers showing their photos taken with the Hasselblad, they don't look any different than photos taken with other brands' high end models that have all the features that the Hasselblad is missing.
So, for me, while I absolutely love the design and build quality of the Hasselblad, this marketing has backfired. If I am ever going to dump anywhere near that kind of money on a camera, it is going to be fully featured, still take amazing photos, and have access to a lot more lens options
What you've discovered is that the photographer matters vastly more than the camera, and that the vast majority of digital cameras are capable of taking great photos.
@BlazeFirereign while there are certain features in a camera that do make a difference, depending on what it is being used for (ie fps for fast sports), I generally agree. I have a 42mp Sony FF and a 12 year old 16mp Fuji apsc, and for day-to-day use, the Fuji photos are every bit as good as the Sony photos.
@@don7117 The Hassy is better in subtle skin contrast but that about it. Saw it compared to the Nikon z8. Look it up.
Do a review next time by going out to take photos and take us along for that journey… talking about the camera is dead boring when it’s been out for a longtime

Matt, I’ve been following you for a couple of years, and love your posts - your style is honest and refreshing. I finally purchased my penultimate camera with the Leica M11-P and a couple of lenses. I love it, and ….. But I’ve had my eye on the X2D. I’ve held it a few times. I understand the slow focus, but that doesn’t bother me. My style of shooting these days is more travel/street than kids sports, etc. But, one thing I LOVE with the M11 is zone focusing, and essentially using the M11 with 28 cron as a point and shoot. I tried (in a camera store) to set the X2D up for this, and was struggling. Love to know your thoughts on this - and whether you could see this replacing your digital M? Also, will be anxious to see your thoughts on this camera, converted to monochrome, vis-a-vis a monochrome M…. Love you and your channel. You should certainly host a workshop!

I had this camera for 4 weeks and I could tell you much more about what needs criticism and what is really outstanding.
You’re criticizing things like IP54, or the „missing joystick“. Both things you normally might be aware, before you buy this camera. Nevertheless you demonstrate that you were able to use the camera in rain, which is nice. But what happens, if something happens? Warranty case?
In my opinion it doesn’t make sense to talk about thinks which are obviously not part of the „Hassy package“.
Here my thoughts.
It would more interesting to hear your thoughts about the battery. After my experience, around 150 pictures could be taken with one battery - this is unacceptable.
Or the really bad EVF (red and green splitting happening on the outer edges of the EVF screen). The bad experience with the refreshing rate of the evf (60Hz) which gives sometimes the impression that the middle of the screen is blurry, not crispy
The missing possibility to have auto ISO in manual mode, which maybe could be solved with a firmware update.
The AF is really bad after my experience. This is not only the case by using it in bad light situations, also in backlight nearly no chance to fix the object.
Even if you take the AF for objects which don’t move, the AF failed sometimes. Which can only be seen by cropping in.
Agree with you about the missing possibility to flip the screen. I don’t get why it is only possible to expand the monitor by 70 degrees, not 90. Unfortunately the view to the screen is partially hided by the EVF.
After all, Yes, I didn’t get the camera for free. I am not supported from Hasselblad. Maybe this is why my thoughts are different from yours.
I didn’t buy the camera because of this issues.
Nevertheless I loved the colors, the perfect work of Phocus and Phocus Mobile 2.
I love the lenses, I tested three, because they are light and the possibility to change from AF to MF is lovely.
I don’t miss the joystick. Because the strength of the camera is not the EVF, it is the monitor on the back and the manual focus.
And as mentioned before from other, it is easy to use the back screen with your left thumb to fix a subject, or object.
I used this camera nearly 70-80% with the monitor. Normally I take the EVF (Leica SL3, or Canon R3), 80-90%.
In the end I would say, if colors are the main reason to buy a camera, saving a lot of time not to post process the taken photos, Hasselblad x2d 100c is the right choice if you can afford it.
If your focus is nearly a little bit more the technical performance of a camera, you might need to think about, if you could live with the things I experienced.
It’s a nicely designed camera but I feel like you can get the same shots on virtually any digital these days, there’s very little need for all the resolution
I had to go the poor boy route and got a used X1DII for $5K less then the X2D and their bargain lens a used 45P. Same great color science and probably the best bang for the buck. The X2D is certainly a much improved version but for my work the X1DII more than does the job if the photographer does his job. I shot manual for the longest time and today people are spoiled with fast autofocus, IBIS, tilt screens, and such. So if anyone wants to move up to Hasselblad, there are options. The images their cameras and lenses produce are the best in the market place.
This is awesome 👌...I own a GFX 100s ii...if you can afford this get a GFX 100S ....it's slower but it's awesome

It seems mainly for studio applications. I shoot a lot in outside and in cold environments. Hence, I am wearing gloves a lot. So a camera of that ambition and price not having a joystick is mind-blowing and therefore absolutely no option for any avid outdoor photographers.
Nice review. Out of curiosity, did you try selecing the right or the top-right area of the touch display as the touchpad when using the EVF? This is addressed on page 105 of the manual and can help avoid the need to hyper extend your thumb to get the focusm point where you want it. 🙂. FWIW, you can also select from left top left, bottom left or bottom right if they work better for you.

I personally like the end image of the 65mm xcd lens a bit better, but the 55mm lens is a much better lens to live with.
As for your joystick comment, did you know there's a setting in the menu where you can map the movment of the af points to the top right of the screen when your eye is up at the camera? Makes it so your thumb doens't have to reach as far over.

Man I would love to have one (about as close as you’re gonna get to replacing my Mamiya 6/7) but a used GFX 100s is about as much money as I can stomach. The xcd lenses are crazy expensive so used bodies aren’t really feasible (for me).
Hey man, I would be very interested in lthe ow light capabilities of this sensor. My biggest struggle with film is that I mostly shoot at dusk/dawn for which I always in need of a tripod and sometimes crazy exposure times. Sure, 4x5 and 6x7 dusk shots are truly magical, but for a "complimentary" 2nd camera I am thinking about getting a digital one. Shooting 4x5 and medium format just eliminates the full frame digital options completely, and I can't seem to find any reviews on a handheld photowalk let's say from sunset to ó1,5 hour after sunset for any of the new medium format cameras.

Do you have to use Phocus to retain the HNCS or do you get that level of colour science when working through Lightroom?
I find it funny how no manufacturer really gets it all correct, even at the top tier level and pricing. Don't get me wrong, I'm absolutely not hating, but by now doncha think some discussions would have been had over omitting basics like joysticks or a relatively limiting tilt screen? On the other hand this camera is dope for having all these crop modes (adding to the fact you can tick a box and choose the ones you want to cycle through, AND change opacity, very neat!). Or the built in storage etc!
Surely someone somewhere is employed within a brand with a notepad and pen to take notes on other reviews of cameras and say 'ah that is a good point, that's a good feature, we'll add that too!', yet we're met with release after release with products refusing to embrace strengths or traits of other brands and instead be stubborn with their own limited ideas with reluctance to change. So bizarre (especially when you consider the higher competitiveness nature of smartphones which do seem more eager to copy ideas from one another).
To me it feels like we could get closer to that perfect camera if someone was simply note taking properly.
I have been talking about JOYSTICK since day one for that camera! If they put a joystick, I am sure they will sell much more. It is horrible to constantly touch the screen for changing the focusing point! I have GFX100 and GFX100 II and I will buy one Hassy if they put joystick on the X3D!
hey Matt if you have contacts at Hasselblad can you please ask them to release an updated 120 macro? It's incredibly frustrating to have have this system be SO capable for flash photos without a current production macro lens =/
will the Hasselblad color technology still be present and visible when the raw files are in lightroom?
Everytime i open a Canon raw file for the first time in lightroom (or basically every camera's raw file) there suddenly appears a huge shift in color, contrast, hue etc. and i always have the impression there is an 'adobe taste' printed on the file.
Change the profile from adobe standard to canon standard (or faithful)

I'm interested in your experience with editing/managing the files. Are they a pain to edit because of the huge size? Any thoughts on file sizes vs. storage space?
I'm jealous of all these photographers getting free X2D systems sent to them haha! One thing I did notice with the display model of the X2D that my camera store has is that the sensor for switching from the LCD to the viewfinder seems to be quite slow when bringing the camera up to my eye. I changed the sensor sensitivity but this didn't really have an effect. Did you notice this at all with yours?
X2D owner here. What you said is 100% true, switching between LCD and EVF is slow, and the latency of that EVF is quite noticeable as well. Just using LCD instead unless under direct sunlight is the best option.
I'd love to see you try it out with the 38mm F2.5. Maybe they will send you a second lens!

I will say that DJI can design a really nice camera. I like this form factor better than the FUJI and the menu system looks great. Also, why hasn't anyone else done internal storage?
Some other cameras do. I know the Ricoh GRiii and iiiX do.

Hey Matt- I have the X2D and love it, even though the files are enormous. Have you used the Hasselblad Phocus software? If so, what are your thoughts on it. PS - Great video, as usual.
Phocus, especially for color work is essential, IMO. Lightroom, or DxO just don't handle or offer the color handling Phocus has. It's the only camera I feel this way about, but 1000% start any Hassy work in Phocus.

Freaky how everyone bemoans Nikon for various things but never mention how large and good there backscreens are.
smart move from marketing department or whoever decided to give the camera to youtuber :D The company would need to spend way more to hire someone shoot/edit/publish the camera after months of usage, not to mention the potential reach generated from their audience and a professional review camera.
Also a bit of risk:Just imagine if the reviewer thought it was no good...
@wizdeas6064 i get what you mean but there is no such things as 'perfect camera' for everyone. Most, if not all, reviewer will try their best to stand at middle ground because they understand that.
Is this X2D worth the money? It depends on your budget and reference. You can choose to save more than half the cost with GFX 100 series (same sony sensor) or if image quality is what you aiming for, go for PhaseOne :D
The point is as buyers we should be smart enough to know our needs and limitation, not just relying on someone opinion.
Fujifilm doesn’t need to give away their cameras. Their system is just better in most ways.

c'mon, Fujifilm built their whole market share with a massively successful influencer campaign... from X100 v1 onwards. Doesn't mean the cameras aren't great, but they've given away PLENTY.
Does it annoy you that Hasselblad are seeing success with effective marketing? Or perhaps that people love using the cameras?
There are plenty of objective benefits to the GFX system. There's certainly no denying that it wins on value, and *objectively* there's little that the X2D can do which a 100S can't.
And yet, some people buy the Hasselblad, because they subjectively prefer its output, and/or subjectively prefer the feel and experience of using it. And given that photography is inherently subjective, as a creative art form, those subjective factors matter a hell of a lot to the enjoyment that people derive from it, and the results they get.
