I have a daughter that needs to hear this, she's in a one sided relationship with her child's father since high school. 25 years! She'll be 40 this year, their son will be 15, but she's afraid of hurting the son! I told her that he'll be fine. They're still renting an apartment, he works intermittently, her government job has all the benefits. He even fathered another child 12 years ago. She was complaining about him not progressing, how he's been talking about his plans. Hello, Tony. As I was listening, I really began to think she may have some MH issues herself because if you have initiated a divorce why do you still expect to live as married people? If I’m going through a divorce, no Sir, you cannot live here anymore or I need to find me somewhere else to stay. And definitely no, we cannot sleep together. So, she seem like she was being a bit manipulating in the situation herself.

Yes!!! I also really hate when we as women use our degrees or positions as a means to elevate our status in the eyes of others (or in her case, make her stand apart from her husband). Truth be told, if the writer were as ambitious about her spiritual and mental health as she is about her career, perhaps she’d be in a better place with her relationship. And I’m not saying this to judge her, but just to say, I don’t think we realize how we come off when we present ourselves in this manner. There’s nothing wrong with being proud of your accomplishments, but keep that same energy and focus for all areas of your life.
It's what many of us automatically do. Educational degrees stroke our egos and gives us a superiority complex as we minimize and/or look down on our husbands. This smarter-than-you assumption (because of a degree/certification) is eating our relationships from the inside out. We must do and be better for our men, brothers, daughters and sons.
