I did the same exact move to Rickson Gracie years ago. I hurt his arm and shoulder real bad. He was screaming in pain and I felt bad about it. I told Rickson that his mistake was that he didn't "flow with the go". And that, is where he learned that expression. Those were the good old days. Good times.
marcelo does a submission at 3:20 which is a variation off a omoplata that targets the forearm instead of the shoudler, where marcelo stretches out his legs with one foot under rolles' chin, you can see rite before the restar rolles left arm looks a bit limp and crooked, marcelo teaches this submission on his first NOGI series, the submissions disk
Don't care who I offend but I have always thought of Marcello showing truely awe-inspiring ground work. He epitomizes what jiu-jitsu is all about, by using technique a small guy can beat a bigger guy...anyways I salute Mr. Garcia!
the monoplata from the bottom rite after the restart just made rolles realize marcelo's guard is truly the death by really aggravating that fore-arm crack IMO
I just saw it. Damn! That was in the wrong direction for sure. And it was levered from MG's thigh. A real bad spot and angle. Really risky when a guy stands up to shake off an ompalata and you still have a good grasp of his hands. It happens the moment you both turn towards the opposite angle. Rolles being the taller guy simply did not have enough time to travel down to avoid the lock up. That's painful indeed.
3:36 -it was an attempt to go limp and pull up before he gets wrapped in an omoplata but Marcelo's pressure was more sensitive - he increased it in the perfect timing, you can see Rolles roll to his side in a late attempt to flow with the direction of the lock. and it's the direction of an americana.
This is a very strange lock. It's not a monoplata because it is going in the opposite direction. However, it is dissimilar from the Mir shoulder lock because he doesn't use his arms to secure his opponent. It is basically an inverted monoplata. However, it seems like it would be very difficult to secure this lock. It seems to only work because he applied it quickly
Had only one match to date (look in the related video section on the upper right of the screen) which he performed pretty well in up until the cut.Training for his next, after 5 fights then someone can comment on his MMA ability.
@scorcher165 As far as I can tell, Rolles Gracie yelps in pain because his arm is injured. After a little dispute, Marcelo Garcia's cornermen manage to get the yelp called as a verbal submission. Which makes sense. Rolles lost by submission.
Wait, I dont understand. If Rolles lost via submission, then why did he try to restart the match a few minutes later? Was he trying to claim he didnt tap? I never saw an official tap
@scorcher165 rolls got caught in a submission. I forget the name but mir got it on somebody before(pete spratt?). you lock up the elbow/wrist in your armpit and pivet your legs/hips in a way where it externally rotates your shoulder. im not sure if rolles yelped from elbow or shoudler pain. either way he screamed and had to stop fighting for a few mins which is also verbal submission. marcelo won with technique over str....the epitome of jiu jitsu.
Marcelo has a tight armlock when people put they're hand on the floor. Watch Rolles arm at 3:35, Marcelo clamps it w/his arm, and then his legs squeeze. No time to tap.
He popped his own elbow. There was no submission, unless and open stacked guard is an extreme submission move on its own. Really though, he goes in, and twists his own arm, and popped his elbow.
ALLIANCE,BRASA(were ALLIANCE,before) and NOVA_UNIAO! The BESSSST!!!! GRACIE BARRA,after PE_DEPANO had only ROGER!!! and maybe BRAULIO! Train with ALLIANCE and GARCIA_GURGEL! PEDERNEIRAS ,is also very HONEST and COMPETENT ,the same should be said about RICARDO DE LARIVA!
Yes, when it becomes BJJ match. He hasn't seen any type of success when it comes to mma with guys his size. BJj is only on piece of a puzzle in a fight albeit a good piece.
I tapped Marcelo once......, on the shoulder to say hello !

Submission happens on Rolles's left arm at 3:36
Damn.. thats nasty at 3:36
kythe7 what happened. It was too fast
the monoplata from the bottom rite after the restart just made rolles realize marcelo's guard is truly the death by really aggravating that fore-arm crack IMO
Rolls just have no time to tap out and lose by submission...A really fast arm-bar...thanks for up this fight!

@19thaman79
i don't think it was a technicality. He applied a submission which resulted in injury and what could be called a verbal submission.
Marcelo Garcia is the man!!
@PedroLMariano2 ώμος "omos" means shoulder and πλάτη (πλατα) means back. So it's the part of your back close to the shoulder literally (greek)
@valetudokid The elbow lock you're referring to about Mir, he got it on Pete Williams.
It's the same submission Frank Mir pulled on ufc.. Shoulder lock (Americana) from bottom

o rolles eh um cara fortão e td +,mas eh mto molão.tantas lutas q eu jah lutei machucado.nunca vi esse brother ganhando um fight

left elbow dislocation it looked like. sort of like a "Mir-lock" what Frank Mir used on Pete Williams
This is Rolles Jr.
it seems like garcia has insanely strong legs
@scorcher165 As far as I can tell, Rolles Gracie yelps in pain because his arm is injured. After a little dispute, Marcelo Garcia's cornermen manage to get the yelp called as a verbal submission. Which makes sense. Rolles lost by submission.
@kingshahine yeah and you really get the picture of the immense size difference when you see marcelo on bottom
Wait, I dont understand. If Rolles lost via submission, then why did he try to restart the match a few minutes later? Was he trying to claim he didnt tap? I never saw an official tap
@MickSaintPeter
I mean shoulder lock, but the arm is what is trapped.
either that or marcelo has wristlocks from hell
Anybody know what exactly happened to Rolles?
this is what garcia does. He beats CHAMPS who are several weight classes above him. Technically he's amazing to watch.
@19thaman79
no problem.
I thought Rolles was one of the older Gracies?
oh brutal! its just like the Mir lock but he just used his armpit to lock the hand and twisted it with his hips and legs ouch!
Rolls might have only tried to keep his elbow in, not get up.. it's split-second.
@3:33
Marcelinho catches Rolles in a tight arm lock. Look at it a few times, Rolles' left arm is in a bad position and gets tweaked.
Garcia is definitely one of the best in the world at BJJ; not much of an MMA guy though.
your zuzitu is amazin
Marcelo has a tight armlock when people put they're hand on the floor. Watch Rolles arm at 3:35, Marcelo clamps it w/his arm, and then his legs squeeze. No time to tap.
i do bjj but i prefer gi. i find it hard to do no gi bjj because it is really slippery. respect for no gi guys.
He popped his own elbow. There was no submission, unless and open stacked guard is an extreme submission move on its own. Really though, he goes in, and twists his own arm, and popped his elbow.
ur zuzitsu is like majiji
and it's not from judo -.-'
@nirvana2465 he has tree trunks for legs man
mão de ferro neles!
seriously. drysdale was far from lucky. however he was quite a bit bigger than marcelo, and even the small size differences realllly matter.
Then Look at 3:33 dammit, he tweaks his arm Americana style using his leg, and an arm.
ALLIANCE,BRASA(were ALLIANCE,before) and NOVA_UNIAO! The BESSSST!!!!

@scorcher165 Marcelo won
