    It's true even the best Brazilian Jiu-jitsu world champions have great Judo and Wrestling at least the multiple world champions such as Saulo, Rodolfo, Royler, malfacine, Mendes, and ect. If you only have the ground game your game is incomplete sport wise, and if you can't strike or handle weapons self defense wise. There is more to Martial Arts-Self defense than just the ground game.

    @prophesy18 I feel the same way your master feels the more I understand BJJ and study it and I'm going to start training with Saulo Riberio and start again under him I'm better than a lot of purple belts but I feel my game lacks certain things I struggle against long guys and feel that's technique thank you my friend for the praise I'm just very critical of myself

    @prophesy18 yeah it goes against a lot of the traditional mindset my ability to survive as a white belt and escape and understand that it's not about force but leverage really set me a part blue belt and black belt are usually where you spend the most time but even now I admit I felt I received rank to early and study under some one new athleticism and talent shouldn't mean a promotion nor a knack for the art and that's what I feel happened

    It's great that Judo ppl are focusing more on the ground thanks to the popularity of BJJ from MMA. But, don't kid yourself. High level Judo competitors are still the creme of the crop. Unfortunately/fortunately, they don't get the marketing(smack talk) that BJJ enjoys.

    The Gi isn`t really for balance and leverage.
    It slows the game down,develops technique more,while the No Gi aspect speeds the game up,and makes you combine strenght and speed with your technique.Both are very important.And i enjoy the Gi alot more when sparring,its very fun to me.It feels like a game,a game of human chess you might say :))

    This video must be super old. Marcelo looks like he's in his very early 20's. Plus he speaks great English nowadays.

  • @kanguesso
    @kanguesso 13 лет назад

    @brasileiro135 In the sense that he will eventually make you make a mistake by constantly attacking you and putting you on the defensive. If you have ever watched Marcelo in action you'd quickly see that he has an all out attack mentality, in a controlled and calculated manner of course. He puts pressure on you and forces to make a mistake. If you're just defending, you're obviously not attacking him, you pose no threat.

    When is this video from? I think that Marcelo's opinions on training no gi have changed. For example he says in the episode of Rolled Up that he now trains 50/50 gi and no gi.

    I was a div 1 college wrestler who turned to judo after being tossed like a rag doll by a 60 year old man...then a few years after I went to judo nationals and a black belt I then went to jujitsu...then no gi grappling. I will say that I have little respect for aikido and it should not be placed in the same sentence as any one of the above mentioned. I dont mean it can not work against guys on the street but as far as competition it wont help.

    Wonder if he still feels the same now about training in the Gi 6/7 days a week an no-gi 1 x week? I know that years later he told Edgy Brah that he just would play the same game in Gi and no-gi

    Um. BJJ actually comes from Judo. Judo was found to be too difficult, and had a high attrition rate = not good for business. So, they focused on the newaza(ground work).
    Newaza is only half the art of grappling. Hence, ppl who only do ground work have half the skill of others.

  • @mybloodrunscold007

    @redblue18700 its a totally different sport, but it has nothing to do with tradition. Pancration or Submission Wrestling has been around for 2000 years. Arguably longer than gi based combat. Training with the gi is essential in order to develop a highly attuned sense of leverage and balance. If you don't think so....try grappling an experienced player

    @mpcc2022 o well that cool....everyone has there own way at looking at things.. me personally i would like to appluade you on your accomplishment.. I am 16 and my teacher said i cannot receive my blue belt until im 18. But i figure its worth while because i love jiu jitsu and not reliant on belt colors because i am better than some blue belt i roll with.

    Slouttop, you should read the article about professional BJJ Master Renzo Gracie fighting off 2 muggers and tweeting while doing it. He choked one guy out on the ground three times.

    A bigger guy and strong, even with lower level, could beat Marcelinho, as he is not so strong. Even a brown belt, with a bodybuilding structure, can put Marcelinho to fly... As Garcia is very light

    Wonder why your instructor wont follow tradition and and at least promote you to blue? IBJJ rules say you have to be 16 to be blue. and 19 for black. I know of some guys that as soon as they turn 18 they got promoted to brown.

    I understand your point here but I don't think it applies to Marcelo. There's a giant gulf between a random bjj black belt and one at world champion level. I once saw a brown belt, in training, well over 200lbs dominate smaller black belts one after another and then get schooled by a 200lb mundial champion. Garcia would beat any brown belt. The only times he ever gets spanked are when he fights elite, heavier BJJers like Cafe Dantas at the highest level.

  • @Fingermann1
    @Fingermann1 12 лет назад

    To say BJJ is more in depth than Judo is hugely underestimating Judo, and a very uneducated remark. Judo ppl have tons of respect for the groundwork of BJJ. Most of the high level sensei's in BJJ have huge respect for Judo. It is the truly INSECURE ppl that make BAD comparisons, on both sides. Grappling is grappling. Judo/Juijitsu/Sambo/Aikido/Wrestling/ValeTudo/Catch
    To be a fully realized grappler, you need take down skills.

    In argument there are things such as context and relevancy, and you seem to not know the simple basis of these two things nor rational, and critical thinking. I am dismayed, because you so desperately want to fight, but cannot see that words in front of you present no fight. How can one hit what is not there? My brain may be small, but I do understand relevancy. What the hell does my love for the sport have to do with BJJ as a self defense system against multiple attackers?

    You lack of understanding in the real world martial art. I trained for 35 years and still do in REAL MARTIAL ART NOT A SPORT LIKE BJJ You simply lack logic & understanding that which is a MARTIAL ART and a SPORT. BJJ is useful, but so is numerous other martial arts. BUT going to the floor and fighting is absolutely STUPID. In BJJ fights are do not go to the floor they are TAKEN TO THE FLOOR. My art does do ground work, but we do not spend all day on the floor ontop of each other like gays.
