On Saturday, May 4th, Joe Moreira was promoted to red belt (9th degree) by GM Francisco Mansor. Joe is the first red belt that GM Mansor has ever promoted.
Maybe it's more like the blood as in relationships, like the brotherhood between these old school practitioners. In UFC 8, Joe Moreira fought the much larger Paul Varlens. Lots of bjj guys have cage-fought, so there is also that aspect.
