Honestly, these older early 2000's cars are by far the best videos that you guys produce. New cars just don't come close. Loving the content, keep it coming!
As someone who has built a few vr4’s, it was refreshing to finally hear someone say it’s not that hard to work on. I never had a problem working on them.
I have to say, the D battery is a new one, but we 3000GT owners had to get pretty creative plugging the intake pipe after removing the Evap canister. The most common solution was using the cap from a pill bottle, which is only slightly less sketchy.. I'm rarely jealous, but this VR4 spec and restoration has me VERY much so! Looks awesome, and you guys definitely have to skills to give it the attention it needs (which will be a lot.)
The D battery trick is an old 3si call back. It has been around since the early 2000s. Back then, people used D batteries and prescription medicine bottles to seal up the recirc hole on the intake housing.
@@darkmatterm4a1 Yeah I was on 3si, and did the bottle cap myself, just don't remember the battery. I guess even in my youth I thought it was a terrible idea.
I worked at a performance shop in highschool that specialized in these cars. The engine/tranny was ALWAYS pulled and put in from the top. You really just needed to remove some of those hoses.
I am absolutely obsessed with the 3000gt and I’ve been looking for one for forever, they are all always so jacked up and their price is terrible I just hope one day the earth will bless me with one I can work on that isn’t horribly expensive to pick up, I love this build and I’ve been keeping up with it since u posed the first episode, I LOVE YOUR WORK, please keep going I am obsessed
The connector on the end of the harness at the firewall end is for the gearbox speedometer on 1993 + mk2 models , the mk 1 had a cable driven speedometer , the mk2 has a electronic one , the connector attaches to the top of the gearbox , it has a sensor on top , just back from the clutch slave with a cog driven off the inside of the gearbox , hope this help , if you haven't already sussed it out
I've always wanted to build a car or truck. Something that doesn't move and make it move safely. It's got to be so rewarding having the abilities to accomplish this. I just can't imagine the pride and just general enjoyment of that first start and first drive.
You can do it. Start with an older car, carburetor, manual brakes, clutch, as basic, like a Ford Falcon, or Vega, or old Corolla from the 70s (if any arent rusted to powder by now), and little by little. Find a community, or even a channel that wont rag on you for asking questions. I always answer questions, any comment, all emails, etc, for the kinds of cars I focus on. Get some basic tools, or used tools, and little by little you will get it done. You can do it! We got faith in you, right, everone? Let me here you!
Dude I’m 17 got a 3000 as my second car without knowing anything dude said it needs an alternator and wheel bearing n it turned out to be so much more but I’m still building it and every step I complete feels so rewarding
Please keep going with this build. The 3000gt VR4 / Dodge Stealth TT have a really cool history. They made so many versions and the technology was ahead of its time. 1991 & 1992 had all wheel steering along with the all wheel drive. 3SX performance shows just how much you can do with these cars even taking them to 700hp. I think you guys should reduce all the weight you can and build the HP up as far as you can and see what the result is.
The 3000 was my favorite Japanese car from the 90s. The spyder was my favorite spec. Convertible hard top, AWD, 4 wheel steering, active front and rear spoilers, and electronic exhaust cutouts. The best tech in a sports car even if it was over $100k new.
Should have bought a cheap car for his first car. When you give your children something like a car they don’t respect it and it ends up at a recking yard.
I feel the pain here. I worked two jobs as a teenager and saved up to afford a 3000gt. Loved that car, took excellent care of it, followed all the maintenance and learned a lot working on it with my grandfather. Eventually i sold it to a dad and his son. About a month later i saw the remnants of my 3000gt on copart. Totaled out. Could tell it was mine from the light modifications and location.
I had a 93 Stealth RT / TT in high school and it’s my dream to be able to have another one or a VR4 again some day. Loved watching this one being reborn!
@@davidheckman8646 haha back when it was still affordable! It had a fully rebuilt engine with Ross filled internals and 2nd gen output shaft and crank shaft. Gutted out pre-cats and a boost controller and I was making 360hp easy. In 2007 that was the fastest car in my school haha It was still old though and only ran about 70% of the time I owned it.
these cars tickle something inside me, i cant quite explain, these cars are so perfect in every way, and I wish I could afford a vr4 but even with a sl with a blown engine, I can still dream about upgrading mine for now
When I was a kid in middle school, I would clip the 3000 GT and the Stealth from the auto show brochures and put on my pin board collage. So happy to see you put in the effort to get one running again.
I have a true 99 which is my favorite body style, second is those robo headlights. For some reason I hate to see when someone takes a gen1 or a gen2 and does the 99 conversion
I think on the 99 front end the fogs are clear and they go on the side vents Infront of the Intercooler. It’s funny how Fernando said it looks like the dodge viper which the 3000gt twin DODGE STEALTH was created it from it in a way. Mayb you should buy a dodge stealth RT as well 🫣🫣
Congratulations on saving one of these amazing cars. I hope it treats you kindly and doesn't take an ass-load of extra work and hassle to get it running smoothly. I have one of these so I can say with some confidence that it will probably drive you nuts, but it is worth it!
Yeah i must say Mitsubishi did things differently and it takes a certain type of person to deal with them...like me. Every time im on the open road it puts a smile on my face. Look forward to seeing more of 3000gt.

@kwedog2373 I want to say a coolant seal blew on the rear turbo and locked it up, front one has about 1/2 inch of shaft-play and timing is off quite a bit. Body is pretty good, paint is clear coat free.....as long as i only break clips and not panels it will be a win.
Needed space so had to sell vr4 but the donor chassis SL im just about to reinstall motor after full nut and bolt rebuild. The car is really clean so its worth it.@saiyakaio2742

Miss my old vr4. These and the 300zxTT was always the favorites

I got my 1999 from Houston. It was a flood car from Huricane Harvey. I picked it up for $450. Rebuilt from ground up and now supercharging it
I got one with a blown engine for $2800 and I’m rebuilding the engine with forged internals
Atleast they haven't got to Supra/RX7 pricing yet!
The prices are only going to go up and it's harder and harder to find parts these days.

As dialed in as a 90's mitsubishi can get atleast..
