Absolutely do not dent the bottom of the sump, the oil pickup tube sits just mm's above it in the recess. You WILL need the 1999 intercooler ducting - finding them may prove difficult though! The glass roof is commonly referred to as a "Moon roof" - and the complete undamaged winding assembly with plastics and no missing handle will fetch some good money. Good luck, will keep watching!
I love it when you guys step outside your comfort zone and build cars you don't have experience with! Takes guts to dive in to something new. Next, you should build a '03-'07 Chevy standard cab, short bed pickup into a LS-A/6-speed track/race truck. Use it to tow the Porsche (or other car.) to the track, then race them both!
Hey guys you need to put a small amount of sealant in the corners of the cam gears on the rocker cover seals. Not sure if you did but it will leak otherwise. Looking forward to the progress. Happy to see others enjoying the platform
The 98/99 VR4's had a bunch of different stuff on them. The ducting and the passenger intercooler were different from the previous years. In the rare chance you're able to get stock IC ducts for a 99, it should bolt right up to that 95 intercooler that you already have though.
Just been going through your back catalogue of videos and I have two comments. One, I'm so sorry for taking so long to find this channel. I finally moved the rock from above my head. Second, the quality that these videos have gone to is amazing! Loving all the content so far! Greeting from across the pond
Nice video couple things to note. Drive shafts on all cars are balanced as one so mark and always use both half’s! Second thing is bleed lifters with small Allen key before installing them or you have a chance to bend all your valves on start up!
Love the build series! Hard to believe you only have 170k subs. You're absolutely going to blow up and I especially like the build series. Goonzquad vibes. Keep up the good work!
The non sunroof had much more headroom, the sunroof takes up too many inches between the underside of the roof and your head, a different headliner to.
I had a 1992 Dodge Stealth RT in the early 1990s and it was a great little car. It had flip up headlights (which frankly I prefer) and a 5 speed manual. I sold it in 1997 and got more than I paid for it after I put over 80,000 miles on it. Make sure that the timing belt, the idlers, the tensioner and the water pump are all in good shape, that engine is a valve bender if the timing belt fails for any reason.... Great upload and good luck with it !! You'll have no trouble selling it when you are done with it.
This is my dream car and I’m so proud of you guys for showing it some love, please please please keep me updated, I’ll send you the hot wheels versions of the car
FYi, when picking one up that has been sitting Gas tank service - drop flush dip and new paint, Sending unit do not remove line from tank unit, the line removal is under the car 2ft from the tank and you will need to heat it up alot and use a lot of WD40 to remove it next , injector service and replace the air flow meter - also the ECU's go bad on these cars and will start misfiring when you go 25% of throttle and go with a Jester ECU replacement or if lucky find a used working one. once you get this car all done and finished you will like it, the 93 VR4 I sold was the lowest mile 1 owner in the US market. As for the parts pulled off you plan to sell good luck with that. :)
Save everything. Parts are becoming very scarce and takes a good while for parts to be made. Just letting you know the garnish is going for crazy high lol
That color IS super rare on that car and highly underrated. Looks cool. I'd see about sending off the second set of seats that didn't have a transmission sitting on them to a shop to get redone in leather. At least, if you're planning on driving it a lot, I'd get that done.
@@willvr4 Up to personal preference, I think. It's fine if you aren't a fan. They came in a bunch of other colors that might suit your preferences more. I also think they look great in red, white, and black. With several options for each. Though Bright Blue Pearl is the only blue worth considering if you want it in blue. The thing I can really respect Mitsubishi for is opting to only offer white in a pearl instead of a flat tone paint. Pearl white is highly underrated.
@@mndlessdrwer Yeah I had a green 93 non turbo in high school and then a red 91 VR-4 after that. I use to work at a performance shop that specialized in them so I've seen every variation even the spyder. Never seen on on the road though.
It's crazy to me that someone just abandoned a VR4. I've seen some crazy barn finds in the past and now that the 90s Japanese cars are becoming classics I'm looking forward to seeing just what is out there.
You have an upbeat tone that doesnt seem fake. Most youtubers artificially pump themselves up before filming, and it is so obvious, and really annoying. Good luck with channel.
Hope y’all wear steel toe shoes or even boots , crushed toes hurt guys so be safe an don’t let parts bounce on to ya , some fall I see that look heavy , just checking in ya an love the vids as always
Great video and an interesting project that I'm looking forward to following to completion. One note, I would hesitate to use the oil coolers or any part of the external lubrication system of an car that blew the motor. I'm not familiar with the oiling system on the 3000GT, so this may not be an issue for you, but - years ago - I knew a fellow who git a 911 RSR "cheap" after it passed through the hands of several owners in succession who destroyed a series of motors. The new owner also set about an engine rebuild and discovered that the oil coolers hadn't been flushed or replaced and were harboring a lot of fine metallic debris from one or more of the ruined motors. The metallic junk probably went back to the first blown flat six, and subsequently passed through all the later motors causing the demise of each.
I am beginning my rebuild on a 93' dodge stealth, the engine is good but I am getting the parts to turn it from a regular RT to a twin turbo, so far its going pretty darn well, though i killed the battery.
Only thing bad about DSM or Mitsubishi..Youll need various 10mm..12mm..14mm and so on to disassemble...Changing to other tool sizes to remove parts ..Nissan you can take apart with 10..12..14mm
I imagine that 2nd gear in that car is probably scratchy if its hasn't been rebuilt. be a good time to do that right now with everything out of the car. And you get to see what clutch it has in it. You can also get an upgraded output shaft for that won't let go when you give it more power.
This is a dream car for me. Fond memories of endless hours of Gran Turismo growing up. Unfortunately it will always just be a dream as they are getting rarer and more expensive. I would never be able to afford to do it to the level of perfection that I expect and it would probably take me my entire lifetime to finish it. I'm very meticulous on how I do things besides I have too many projects as it is. They tend to be a little more practical and affordable.
hey you know if you cant find parts for the 3000 -gt go looking for a dodge aveneger same year, dodge just reshelled it most came front wheel drive but they are out there
The big difference between both is 1995 is obd 1 and the 1999 is obd 2 for which I will keep the older ecm and eliminate the use of the secondary 02 sensor
I remember this was my goal car to get, but then I drove a S2000 and it blew me away by how much fun it was to just drive so I went with it instead. These were nevertheless way way ahead of their time with the active aero.
Is that secondary o2 sensor not the wire for the valve for the active exhaust? Think 4th gen didnt have it but 1-3 did. If thats for sale let me know trying to return mine to stock in some ways get the function of the buttons back 🤣
Fun fact, it's actually not a DSM, all 3000/GTO/ Even the Stealths were assembled in Nagoya Japan before they were sold here. Unlike Diamond Star Motors which was assembled in the US.
So that 3000 GT vr4 has a six speed in it so something you might want to do some research on to my knowledge if I’m correct you need to keep that six speed in that car because I don’t believe the axles or that rear diff will work with that five speed or the shifter cables so you might wanna do some research on
Wow a nearly extinct Unicorn! These were produced during Mitsubishi’s lofty years and were so hot that Dodge had to have their own version! They were an engineering tour de force, but a maintenance nightmare! These exotics fell victim to abuse and neglect and became junkyard fodder. Poor oiling and overworked turbos caused early bearing failures, not to mention the many catastrophically failed heads due to timing belt neglect. Also, engine suffered from too much stagnant heat retention post operation from tight packaging of high heat components (recommend 5-10 minute cooldown idle time to allow for a gradual temp normalization). To mitigate these things from happening to this unicorn, I’de: 1) double check the timing belt is pristine (in situ replacement of belts is a brutal task), tensioner pulley bearing is well greased (see RUclips for “sealed bearing hack”), and ensure water-pump is turning freely; 2) replace spark plugs with Iridium plugs (cheapest upgrade with remarkable gains in longevity and performance of the engine); 3) teflon treat the oil (Slick50, etc.) to prolong life of bearings and rings; 4) change diff oil with Royal Purple; 5)wrap turbos in high-heat jackets (DEI thermo jackets are great product for this). A little extra up-front garners bigger returns on the back and more smiles-per-miles!
There were two different output shaft/transfer cases for these cars.....90-92.5 were 18 spline......93-99 were 25 spline.....first gens also had a 5 speed.....93-99 were 6 speeds.

I found it by accident
Same. I've had 2 stealths. A 95 and a 93. Picking up a 92 vr4 next Friday
These are actually very rare nowadays. You dont see many of them anymore. Great JDM unicorn to have.
Alot of them are beat to hell and scrapped and crushed. There's plenty of 3s groups on fb that buy sell trade
They made less than 300 1999 VR4s for the United States. Crazy they got one in such good shape
