@@marksliwinski-zb3jj I can absolutely say that's not true at all. I see a couple once in a while but they're ultra Rare to see out driving.
that engine was extremely reliable and there were very few issues that would stop one from driving.
A Large Majority of them were totaled out by their owners. A Curse of the car being just cheap enough for a 16-22 year old to afford, and being Extremely cheap to modify to go pretty fast for its time. (SRTForums was keeping a tally on how quickly they were being totaled.)
The other Big issue was the rust problem. primarily because owners didn't take very good care of them.
another Curse of being such a cheap car carrying the neon stigma.
People just let the remaining SRT-4's ROT and neglected basic car care & maintenance.

I have always loved these cars! I remember test driving one in 2004! I think they came out in 03 and I wanted one but just didn't have the money at the time. Y'all really made this car look good and I love the factory wheels, so keeping those really put the cherry on top, in my opinion. If I ever come across a clean SRT4, I'm buying it!

I LOVED the OEM Look you guys went for. Now its a Prime example of what the SRT-4 Was back in 03-05
    -----These would/Should be looked into-----
(I was the SRT-4 Mechanic in my Friend group)
-Scrap that ebay magaflow exhaust, get a 3" (MPX is good), Car never came with a muffler stock
-4:36 - Delete all those solonoids go big turbo setup (AGP Turbo CW 5457E "AGP 50 Trim" was my go-to)
-10.0 AFR is not Good. its extremely rich and you should probably have a tuner take a look and get you on e85 anyway.
-You will probably need Transmission work, 3rd gear extender (3rd gear fork, throw out bearing, clutch while you're in there, Royal Purple Synchromax )
    -Cut the balance shaft chain
-Add a Catch Can, 8.1:1 puked up quite a bit of oil into the intercooler.
-Also, Zip-Tie EVERY vacuum line on the car. boost ALWAYS Blows them off
Engines good for 400-450 wheel pretty safely, Push into 500wheel should be alright for a while.
Owned mine for 10 years, and it Never broke down once. 400hp, drove hard EVERY time I drove it. The only real issue I had was 3rd Syncro.
My friends also snapped Axles a couple times at the drag strip.
I unfortunately was forced to sell it because of a home purchase and it was starting to rust the rear wheel wells which is EXTREMELY Common.
800HP MKV Supra now, but I miss the SRT-4 constantly. it was my first "Performance/Turbo" Vehicle.

SRT4 Neon Hell Yeah!!!! Love these cars. I remember back in the day all you had to do was literally wax it to make more power. One of the best cars Dodge ever made. The transmission however the only drawback. I've heard a few of these with aftermarket cams and they sound rowdy as hell, also they wake the engine up quite a bit. I am looking forward to your progression on this build in added more power.

I had a customer that bought one of these that had a bigger turbo installed. Every single vacuum line was routed incorrectly, the alternator wouldn’t put out proper voltage above 1500rpm, the ‘boost controller’ was from playskool, and a whole slew of other issues. We had the car at the shop for almost 3 months off and on. Once it was finally working properly and I drove it I could tell the turbo or the tune or both were just wrong because the moment the manifold pressure went positive the boost was dumped out. And it was like you’re driving an NA Neon. We recommended him a couple reputable tuner shops in the area to get it properly tuned and setup for the turbo or get a more appropriate sized turbo installed. I saw him driving it around after that but I don’t know if it was ever corrected. They’re decent little cars.

What a beauty! I had a black 2005 SRT-4, pretty stock, only aftermarket was intake, and purple colored Megan coilovers. I even lived in it for a couple of months due to some financial difficulties back then. I weighed about 300lbs at the time and sleeping in it was not fun lol but I definitely enjoyed that car. And of course, 3rd gear went out at some point lol

I got 5 of these units to this day!! Been building this car since 2004 when I was a senior in high school. It was definitely the baddest car in the school parking lot got it in April graduated in May… never since 2004 haven’t owned one of these!! Great content lots of parts still available for these things need to do a solid bws3 setup or an agp setup with a built engine!! 5-600 hp all day with very minimal issues. Trans parts are the hardest to come by!! Realtune performance or liberty will get you what you need though!! Definitely need to save more of these cars!! Subscribed and ready for more content!! 👏🏻

I had to watch the whole video. This is one of my favorite cars of the 2000s. I used to be a Dodge tech (fresh out of school) when these came out brand new. I wanted to test drive one, but the dealership manager wouldn't let me unless I was serious about buying one. I was too young and broke then, but i had a tuned 1997 Eclipse GST, which scratched my itch 😂

SRT4 was my dream car in high school. Remember I had a Super Street poster of a gray one up on my door that I drooled over every day, lol. Only ever got to test drive one in a parking lot, but couldn't afford it new. Settled for a non turbo Mazda 3. Still love the bruteness and the burble and crackle of the SRT 4 though.

  • @jamesgriffin7351

That one looks like the 2005 ACR model that I had, except the ACR came with Bridgestone rims, different seats and had a 1 inch lower ride height than regular SRT-4's. I ordered it when I was a Chrysler technician. I immediately installed the Mopar Performance stage 3 turbo kit. I slowly added modifications to the car and raced it in NOPI and SCCA events until I sold it in 2010 when my twins were born. Using 110 octane racing fuel with the high octane mode that came with the stage 3 kit, it would output a tad over 350 at the wheels. These cars respond extremely well to tuning. Getting over 400 horsepower wasn't too difficult because the SRT 2.4 can handle a really high boost.

Oh this takes me back!... I bought one of these the second year they came out. I remember buying an exhaust, rims, springs and a blow off valve before the car was even delivered. I ended up flipping it down a steep hill/cliff drifting while intoxicated😅... Dumb stuff. And yes these things sounded awesome and made a solid 240hp, 260 torque and weighed under 3000lbs! Ran a quarter in the high 13's. They came stock with over 1 atmosphere of boost. They also offered a stage 3 performance kit from the factory that bumped it up to well over 300hp and close to 400 torque. It was a seriously fast car for the time. Solid motors you could hammer on all day and handled power upgrades with ease. If they made it rear or 4wheel drive, and 2 door it would have gone from cool to legendary.
