  • There's no doubt navigating the BIOS can be confusing, especially when all you want to do is enable XMP (D.O.C.P for AMD), resizable bar, or simply update it. In this video, I'm going to give a tour of the BIOS for the ROG Strix B550-F Gaming motherboard, and it should help with other ROG boards as well!

    Hiya mate, just a quick production tip - raise the aperture setting of your camera so that *all* the onscreen text is in focus, and even consider locking the focus when the camera and subject are both static anyway. I made it about 7.5 mins in, but the text was too blurry to read, so I bailed on it. It does seem helpful though, so cheers for the content. Also, this vid is over a year old, so you may well have corrected your technique by now, but I figured I'd mention it just in case you hadn't yet.

    Very nice B550 board. Bought new RAM but had trouble running it at DOCP speeds (3600 CL16). Talked with ASUS support who wanted me to send the mobo in for an RMA. Despite being one month past the exchange period, Amazon helped me out and sent me a new one so I didn't have to wait for the RMA. Set the new board up and everything worked perfectly. Old motherboard must've been faulty in some way. Glad it wasn't my CPU that was the issue, but man dealing with RAM problems is such a nightmare.

      I installed this board today and too had weird problems with DOCP, kept trying different slots then tried 1 stick and apply DOCP and it worked so I thought my other stick died or something as I would get boot loop every time I put it on my other stick but I added the other one in after enabling it on my first stick and it worked lol both at 3600mhz now

      Running into the same issue with my build using the same board. Started with all four dimms populated no post, 2 and 4 slot populated of course no post. Goin to try your method and see what happens all this going back and fourth with RAM issues is annoying and funny enough never had this issue before. All my builds have had Asus boards so this is a one off for me. When you installed the one stick of Ram did you put it in the first or second slot on the CPU side?

    Can you tell me why you refer to flashing the bios as a "flash back" are you flashing the bios back to a previous or older version of the bios? if so, why would you do that? you didn't explain why you would want to go back to an older bios. I have seen this done on some game consoles so that they can be jailbroken but I don't think that is the case here.

    • @MiddleofKnowhere
      @MiddleofKnowhere  3 месяца назад

      The "flashback" term is just a another common name for BIOS Flash. Sometimes the buttons on mobos are actually labeled bios flashback. Here's an article from ASUS calling the feature flashback: www.asus.com/support/faq/1038568/
      With regards to your other question, you may want to flash the BIOS to an older version if the newest one you have installed proves to be unstable, has a known bug communicated by the mobo maker, is a BETA version, etc. Hope this helps, and thanks for watching and commenting!

    • @MiddleofKnowhere
      @MiddleofKnowhere  6 месяцев назад

      Up to you really. Doing it before ensures the CPU you bought or will use works right away, but there's nothing wrong with getting everything together and doing it after. Don't set any XMP or any overclocking just get it all together, install windows, update the bios or update bios first then windows, then after all your drivers and things are up to date set XMP and what not.

      I tried different drivers, even flashed controller’s FW through a bat file, many attempts to reboots, switching things in bios etc.
      Nothing works and looks like it can be a hardware issue of the chip itself or it can be fine with some routers.
      Btw the Wi-Fi part of the motherboard is meh for VR streaming, feels like drivers are raw, but theoretically should improve in the future.
      Nice board on paper, but these issues are catastrophic for my application…

      Yes, you can still update the BIOS using the button if things are plugged in. I did that with a Gigabyte board as I accidentally put in the wrong bios from a different board. Was able to use bios flashback via usb and was good to go. :)

    I always assumed Asus didn't provide overclocking instructions because its a liability. As soon as someone bricks their motherboard messing with something they don't understand ( I don't necessarily mean timings ) - ' WeLl i fOlLoWEd yOuR iNsTrUcTIOnS!'

    • @MiddleofKnowhere
      @MiddleofKnowhere  Год назад +1

      That makes sense. They, like AMD with Ryzen Master, could always have a disclaimer in the BIOS and require you to hit the checkbox and then that's saved somewhere on the bios chip or something where they can then retrieve that info later should you brick the board while oc'ing and rma it. Having said that, ASUS has videos using their software to overclock within windows, but never delves into the BIOS for a manual OC, which annoys me. I don't like the software and want to learn how to BIOS OC.

      If your CPU has integrated graphics, plug your monitor into the display or hdmi ports on the motherboard. Should work automatically. IF not then you might need to activate it in the BIOS. Only certain AMD CPUs, usually ending in G, like 2600G or 5600G have integrated graphics. Zen 4 CPUs (7000 series) have basic integrated graphics for displaying a signal but nothing you could game on.

      Green is for your Boot led. Can you post and get into the BIOS or Windows? If not, make sure whatever hard drive you're using is plugged in and/or seated properly. Additionally, it might remain on b/c you haven't formatted the drive yet prior to installing windows. Do that during installation. You may have a malfunctioning drive. If you're using an NVMe drive, try a different slot. If it works, it might be a malfunctioning slot. If a SATA SSD or HDD, try plugging in the SATA cable into a different SATA port.

    Was really hoping you'd go into the detail of what all those annoying acronyms actually mean. Been beating my head against a rock trying to get decent explanations from the internet, but it's a lost cause. So much of this BIOS is self-referential meta bullshit too. "Oh this is the thing that's incompatible with 'the stilt' EDC tweak." Okay Asus, then tell me what the EDC tweak is so I know not to do it. Oh, you're not going to? I'm supposed to just KNOW what that means? Asus, I don't lurk your dumb overclocker forums. I don't get the reference.
