Update BIOS on ALL Supported ASUS Motherboards: Easy BIOS Flashback Method
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 26 июл 2024
- When building a PC you most likely will need to update your BIOS especially if it is a newer motherboard. This should work on any ASUS motherboard that supports BIOS Flashback including AM5. There should be a button on the back panel if yours does. You can update the BIOS without the CPU installed with this method. You do not power up the PC at any point when doing this.
This can be done with or without a CPU installed.

The most common solution to problems updating is to try a different USB drive. Sometimes even a reformat of the USB drive can make a difference. Also, verify the file was renamed.
In this video, we show how to update the BIOS on an ASUS motherboard using the BIOS Flashback method. This should work for most ASUS motherboards including AM5, Z790, Z690, B660, H610, Z170, X299, X570, B450, X670 etc. Pretty much any Intel or AMD motherboard that supports BIOS Flashback. Just be sure that you download the correct version of the BIOS for your specific board.

What a great feature.
Wish they offered it on all boards. I find ASUS seems to not offer on as many of the midrange boards that other companies do. Either that or I just was unlucky to have many with the feature and that included some decent motherboards.
Since a series 7000 motherboard should support the Ryzen CPU without a BIOS update right off the bat, which method would be preferred for the first BIOS update, performing the update via the BIOS utility or the flashback method? Great video, though. Very helpful.
Well that depends on who you ask. Some will say the flashback method should only be when you can't do it the other way. They feel at seeing more feedback in the Bios utility is better. But my feeling is they are really the same. And from everything that I've read from the manufacturers they mention using the flashback as being the easier way. Really it's a matter of choice. I usually would do it on a new-build with the flashback and just get it out of the way. Of course some say you shouldn't update the BIOS unless you have issues but I always do it on a new-build.
Hi mate after doing the bios update do you restart the computer with just the 24pin connected and check the bios?
Thanks for sharing, very informative. However, if you have a brand new uninstalled motherboard how do you know the BIOS needs updating? Thanks.
There is not always a way to know for sure. But if a new motherboard that has not been on the market for a couple years then likely it has an early version installed. If they improved support for a CPU you are installing it is likely that you will need to update. I personally update to the latest on a new build and then only update in the future if needed.
Lets hope this is the reason my 13th gen cpu didn’t work…will try this when i get home , thank you for the amazing video
Good chance. You can always look on the support page to find that info out usually.
This helped a lot, thanks
Glad to hear!
Anyone tried this with a TUF Gamung ASUS Mainboard? I tried to update it with ezflash out of the bios...basically as soon as it startet processing my system shut down... had to remove the battery to get it running again and now i am afraid to even try ^.^
Hey sir, thanks for this! Small question.
Im flashing Asus TUF x670e plus without cpu and ram. After flashing is done, do i need to take power off, add cpu, gpu and ram? Connect monitor on gpu and fire up pc?
Im missing the step when i need to add component. Sorry for newbie question.
Yes after updating the BIOS turn off the power switch and unplug and assemble the computer
I'm using an Asus Z170-A, and there is no bios slot for USB or flash button, I clicked on this video for that exact problem since you put that motherboard in the title lol
Some Z170 boards do support it. It all depends on the model.
Just to make sure I got this straight......I'm going to do my first build within a week. I get the flashing of the BIOS (without anything on the MB)..Great job explaining that!!!! But I've also been reading that you should update the ME driver and FW first before doing the BIOS update. So to me that means installing Windows 11 first with CPU, Memory, Storage, etc., correct? I really want to update the BIOS first because I want to make sure that the MB is ready for my 14th Gen CPU, Mem, Storage, etc). Can I update the BIOS first then build and install Windows 11 and update the ME drivers and FW after that? In what order do I follow the steps?
That would only be if you already have Windows installed. Otherwise you can do it after.
If I update just on the motherboard with no additions (GPU, RAM, etc) is it necessary to have my monitor plugged in as well?
Great video!
No it is not. You are not booting the computer at any point.
@@KLEEBZTECH Ohh, okay. So it just needs the power then. Thanks!
Can you tell a way, if the usb flashdrive really as Fat32 after doing the process whit Rufus?
Hello, I am about to do bios update and some tweaking on my ASUS board and have some quetions :
1. If my system wont boot up due to bad tweaking (RAM settings or other), and i am no longer able to access BIOS, can I possibly just use this method to Flashback bios from USB (same version) ??? Will that work ? I would dodge the CMOS battery /header reset.
2. Lets say I want to go back to previous version of BIOS, if the new one is not stable. Is this still possible with this Flashback USB method ?
I haven't tested on Asus boards if you can reflash the same version. I know with others when I have tried that it doesn't update because it detects the same version. And personally going the other route with the CMOS battery is probably the safer route. As for flashing previous versions you would have to check the BIOS updates and see if any notes about that. I know I have seen some that say you can't flash a previous version after a specific update.
is this the same forn ASUS ROG Strix B650E-F Gaming WiFi Motherboard
Did this work for anybody who tried using ai suite 3 and couldn't use the ex installer?
This feature is only available on specific boards. Not every board has it.
hi i have asus rog strix 650E-F now i wait for new ryzen 7900x3D what is better before update bios before inserting a new processor or when instaled new procesor on motherboard and after update bios ?
Using this method it should make no difference.
what do you mean by "if the pc is already assembled" "do not power up"?
You do have to turn the power on to be able to run the bios Flashback or? Can someone explain the nuance ?
Yes you need to turn on the power switch on the power supply but do not boot up the computer.
Does anyone know what to rename the bios file for a Asus Prime B760 D5? I'm working on a mac until i build my PC and cant run the .exe renamer file. Thanks
If I’m building a new pc should I build it after doing the bios update or connect to a monitor and power it up?
I would build it after, this way if you have a 13th or 14th gen cpu it will be accepted.
When you say “on a fully built pc don’t power on during the process” do you mean don’t flip the switch on the pcu or clicking the button on the case
You only power on the power supply. Do not press power button on the computer to start it up. You need the power supply turned on in order for the motherboard to have power to update.
Quick question, what about Intel ME download before bios? I can't really do it before bios update in my case because I'm building brand new pc. I see one guy already asked but not sure what to do exactly? Windows will automatically update it?
I believe they say to do it before the bios update because if you already have Windows installed you should. Otherwise you should be good.
@@KLEEBZTECH Hey man hope you’ll reply Quick
I have the Asus ROG strix Z690-A Gaming wifi D4 as I put the USB device on my pc on the bios marked on it. I tried to follow my manual motherboard as it says “the utility automatically checks the devices for the BIOS file, When found, the utility reads the BIOS file and enters ASUS EZ Flash 3 automatically”
And
I don’t see any changes in my bios screen
And then I tried to follow your method..
as I put the usb with the BIOS file I press the little button with a stick and I waited for almost 2 minutes and it didn’t flash and my BIOS screen doesn’t have any changes again.
What is the solution of this man? please help btw you have new sub❤
@shadowkage6403 same situation... wild it is not more streamline
If you fuckup the flashback during, since this is internal can you just restart the process and try again unlike a regular BIOS flash? Or will you brick your motherboard?
If something goes wrong in theory you should be able to do the flashback method and do it again. I have only needed to do it once so really can't say exactly how reliable that is.
So I recently changed my settings from Normal to Power Saving in the bios (ROG B660-A) because the 13700k cpu was running way too hot 95-100 Celsius in cinebench r23. It did change the temperature(70-75 C), but it lowered too much the performance and the rgb lights are not turning on anymore. Any changes I make to the bios, like restoring back to default, or change Normal to Power Saving and vice versa doesn’t help to bring it back to Normal. I tried flash ez tool for the newest bios version(no results), now tried this method, flash backed to a previous version and yet no results. Still works like in power saving mode. I would leave it like that, because the performance I get is enough for me, but without rgb is kinda weird…
Strange...
My asus rog won't work with 13500. I did BIOS flashback latest update which went as expected but then I'm getting fans and lights working but nothing in monitor (connected to motherboard since I don't use graphics card)
hello. Can you explane me how to make bios update like this steps, on ASUS TUF GAMING Z690-PLUS WIFI , on this MB do not have extra USB port and button for bios.
Without BIOS flashback feature you will need to update with this method which does require that the computer can boot into the BIOS: ruclips.net/video/ThQJR2IK5XE/видео.html
Can you do this if you already have an older bios version installed? I just want to update to a newer bios version.
Yes this is to update whatever you currently have to the newer version. It will replace the BIOS currently installed.
Thank you for this, perfectly explained! I just put together my new build, it has a i5-1:600k , asus z690-I gaming, ddr 5 and 1tb m. I, is not posting at all, i tried everything except updating the bios, could i use this method to make my 13th gen cpu to run? I don’t have a 12th gen laying around with me to test if that works , thanks again!
ye it should work + you wont do anything bad by trying it
If the motherboard have b660 chipset you have to flash bios for 13 gen to work but as i said this should work
If the motherboard supports BIOS flashback then I would give it a try. Especially with a new build since it is probably outdated a bit.
@@KLEEBZTECH thanks much!
@@tongoso did it work and could u update to the latest version directly?
I tried this and got a 'Memory Code 00' message, It then refused to boot at all, even after clearing the CMOS, reflashing both BIOS chips etc!
Do u need to have the cpu cable plugged into the motherboard ?
Not with Asus motherboards.
please answer me.. i just did and flashing ended in 3-4 min on asus b660-A wifi mobo.. is this normal or its too fast to end flashing? should i intall cpu and open pc or need try again? bcs asus on support site says “depending on bios size will completed in 8 minutes”
I just went back and checked the original video in real time and mine took about 3 or 4 minutes for the last two updates I did. I actually flashed it to an older version since it was already updated so I could make the video so I did it twice. Both times were around 4 minutes.
So im doing this litle project and have some parts ordered. What should i do when they arive, should i first assemble the pc and see if the cpu needs the bios update or straight on just instal the newest bios update?
The cpu and the motherboard is nothing special, its the (Ryzen 5 5500 and Asus prime b450m-k II).
Personally I usually update first to avoid issues. But really up to you.
@@KLEEBZTECH Okay, thank you
What are the cases when a USB 3.0 will not work for this? I thought as long as you put the USB 3.0 in a 2.0 slot its fine.
It is pretty random when it comes to this stuff. It's not the same as when you're running the operating system. I'm not sure entirely why. Sometimes it's just a matter of formatting again I have seen solve any issues.
for me, after the bios flashback (3.5 min), the boot up did not just lead to updated bios. I got message saying hold up we need to flash bios before we can continue. It then rebooted a few times before it went into bios with latest version. Difference might have been my bios also included latest ME. Mine was a new build ... with only the bios flashback as the source for the code.
I just find it strange that no one else has mentioned this behaviour.
On rare occasions there can be things that are updated on first boot like that. It is not common.
Thanks a Lotttttt my brother, . i have liked your video, and subscribed, pls do give me your name in next video. thk u thank u thank u.
i learnt how to do it.
btw you can power on the computer, and navigate the BIOS the new Asus motherboard will give picture.
asus z390 e gaming motherboard doesnt have the bios flashback port and button, Motherboard switches on only if the cpu power isnt connected(with cpu power connected it just cant start the psu or anything). How can I flash BIOS without cpu and bios flashback button?
Nothing that you could probably do. I would contact their support. If you can't get into the BIOS nothing you can do.
I have asus tuf b660 plus wifi d4 ....how can I update the bios without using the 12th gen processor? it looks like my mobo doesn't have any bios usb hub and flashback button...
If it doesn't support BIOS flashback then you would need a supported CPU in order to update your bios.
If I am using a brand new USB drive, already formatted for Fat 32, do I have to reformat it?
Probably not. But if you run into any issues I would give it a try
The only format option my usb gets is ExFat... is that okay? or does it have to be Fat32?
That most likely means you are using a drive larger than 32GB. There are ways of formatting a drive larger than 32GB as Fat32 but I do not cover those. It does need to be Fat32.
Is this method going to work on Rog strix z790 hero??? Please let me know. I am so confused.
If it has the BIOS flashback button it supports the method.
My motherboard is tuf gaming b550M-E and the motherboard is not flashing it flash for 3 times then it has the ligh of the bios update always on and not turnig off
Have you tried any other USB drives? That is often the issue.
Suppose there was a power cut(its common and random here) during the bios update and mobo got bricked. Will bios flashback be able to recover it? The mobo i want to buy is b450m pro 2 TUF gaming.
I have never run into that to test but I do know that board says it has ASUS Crash Free BIOS which I think would allow recovery but have never done it. I always connect to a UPS battery backup. Which really should always use with any computer in my opinion. I am not sure if the regular flashback would work or not.

Don't boot the computer.
i have a asus b660-plus-d4 and in the manual it says that i can update the bios via usb but theres no button on the back nor indicator to know which usb to use
They are probably referring to using a USB to update within the BIOS. You do need to be able to boot to the BIOS to do that. I actually am planning on doing a video of that soon but that obviously won't help now.
I could not get this to work........ NO re-namer file, so I change in Windows.

hi i have mother board asus b350 and i have problem >>>>> the Q-Flash Plus button is not found >>> what i do ??
If there's no Q flash plus button then that probably means your board doesn't support it. Does it have a USB port that indicates bios update?
But if my board doesn´t have flashback, I am screwed. Because my new Z790 plus wifi came with old FW and my procesor is 14. generation KF. So Asus made such great TUF board ... but forgot to include this crucial function.
Yeah I don't understand why they don't put this feature on more of those boards.

Does ASUS TUF GAMING B760-PLUS WIFI DDR4 support this feature? Also do I need to flash the bios to install 14th gen CPU on this motherboard or should the stock BIOS be enough to run this CPU?
From what I can tell it does not support BIOS flashback and I do not see a button so I would guess not. Looking at the support page it seems you would need an update from a few months ago to run 14th gen and I doubt a new board would have the latest BIOS versions.
@@KLEEBZTECH uh, okay. But I see it has something called Asus Crash free BIOS. Would it work or not?

Would you happen to know why my "CAP file" is being saved as a "Wireshark capture file" when I run the BIOSRenamer.exe? Will this matter when I try to update the BIOS?
Because Wireshark uses that extension for their capture files. It's just what Windows is associating with that file. It shouldn't have an effect on the actual update.
if you want to manually flash bios without flash back you shouldnt use renamer right?
