2 years after you made this comment I found this video and my combat efficiency has changed drastically. This was an amazing explanation for someone who has very little experience with this kind of interface. I was getting frustrated to say the least as to why I couldn’t figure out how to hold my own.

Every elite video is always says, "just use your vertical thrusters," and I'm like, "how?" and then they don't explain it.
Finally I've found a video that doesn't overlook this.

+Vindicator Jones I know I already praised you, but I just had to come back.
I tried out CQC today, I applied what you showed in this video, and I was *wrecking house.* I placed first four times in a row in team deathmatch using nothing but the default imperial fighter (OP?)
I outstripped people ranked three times higher than me -- it was insane. (I was also applying some FAO techniques I picked up and general Elite know-how, but it was still impressive.)
I use a keyboard right now, so using all of the different thrusters at once is very hard. The pro and retrothrusters don't even have bindings at all, but just using the vertical thrusters to keep my enemy in place during a turningmatch and controlling my boost distance has been invaluable. It's like the one bit of knowledge I was always lacking.

I can't tell you how helpful I'm finding your videos to be. I'm a newcomer to Elite: Dangerous (playing about 6 weeks), and my main ship is the Asp Explorer, which I use primarily for cargo missions. It's been depressing some times to be interdicted with full cargoes (I play Solo mode) and then loosing everything with an 850,000 credit insurance payment! The first video of yours that I watched was the one about surviving interdictions, and it has already been a great help, as each subsequent video of yours that I've watched. Thank you, and Subscribed!!!

What program did you use to make that animation part from 1:00 ?
Also I have another question: Im in a Vulture and Im now pretty familar with using thrusters but I keep having problems with ships like the Imperial Courier when they do exactly the same (Its rare that an NPC does this, but it happens from time to time)
I sometimes try to accelerate and fly in a straight line under them and the pull to the target again to somehow outmaneuver them but they just turn around on sopt and blast again.
Is it just that those ships are superior to a vulture? Maybe I just need more practice ..
(Oh and dont get me wrong I get the kill but they're the only enemy that usually downs my shields and afflict damage to the hull)

    • @VindicatorJones
      @VindicatorJones  8 лет назад

+Hatty Hattington I basically use Adobe AfterEffects for everything. Sometimes I will use Sony Vegas if its just some simple editing.
The Vulture is probably the most Maneuverable ship in the game, but you will still have some NPC's that can perform their own maneuvers quite well. Couriers, and especially clippers can sometimes seem like they can turn fast on the spot. But what they are actually doing is going in reverse and turning to face you. Not much you can do in this situation, other than break attack put full pips to shields and focus on getting back behind them. Remember, PIP management is extremely important. To see how important it is, especially when being fired upon, watch my other video 3 Pythons and a Corvette, and you can see how putting pips into shields can make them super strong.

2:24 I (ab)use the Feds in secure systems, right around the starports' entries to practise manoeuvring as occasion arises. Or for beginners any ship or concoy you meet out there e.g. in a USS. Use the opportunity to travel along with them for a while and feint attack them, no weapons out, just try to aim from all possible angles. They won't run and won't fly evasive manoeuvres as long as you don't get too close to them. So they're pretty steadily moving 'targets'. Until they have a beef with the unnerving you and decide to jump.
Next step could be the security forces near a port then, which are very agile and manoeuvre and boost around a lot due to their patrol jobs. They scan you once in a while and then rapidly get back on their patrol. Try to keep track on one or another, you can lock them, and practise to aim and to manoeuvre with them. Just don't extend your weapons accidentally or ram the station, or you'll get fined. It's fun and good training.
Edit: Oh, and of course, do not touch them either. Or else. ;)

Where's the next video m8? I've watched this one countless times and already I've managed to kill half the turning battles I'm usually stuck in. I need MOAR!
    Nice instructionals btw.

Love the videos, especially the tips on how to practice. Would love to see a video on interdicting in 1.4

This is awesome! I'm been searching so long for this kind of video. Thanks for the great suggestions! Have you or can you do a video for taking on multiple opponents?
