This should be the first Babymetal song to hear👊🏽⚡️ Based on their later albums this early song represents their heart and direction much more than Gimme Choco.🦊🤘🏾

    _Sore!_ 🦊🤘🔥
Glad to see you're back with this suggestion, they were quite young in this one but wait to see Doki Doki Morning or Iine!!, you can enjoy this song with the live sound of the Kami Band at Budokan 2014 or Budokan 2021 with the new formation.
Fans were enjoying and having so much fun watching this live every night at Sabaton's Europe Tour and later at Asian and Australian Tour, and The Babyklok Tour in the US, they also got another Europe headline tour this month, you don't wanna miss the chance to see them live and performing this song like they did recently in all these concerts, we always love the shanenigans when performing live between the girls in the middle section after the breakdown.
This was released in 2013 when having around 13/14 (Yui and MoaMetal )and 15 yo (SuMetal, the lead singer), so is one of their early hits and is full of japanese elements, like the "shamizen", a japanese traditional instrument, and is a party festival song (matsuri).
"Sore" "seiya" and "soya" are typical shouts among Japanese festival and it works like a "c'mon!" or "let's go" for them.
During the breakdown you can hear another typical japanese folk song called "Sakura Sakura" and they're doing a traditional Japanese dance.
In summary, song is about female empowerment and if you follow the lyrics you'll see about it, "Megitsune" means female fox (vixen) and they talk about women acting with a smile in their face while crying inside, just to fit in society or what is expected from them, when they're kind to you they're not trying to make falling in love with them, they're just being their own way, and men tend to confuse and think they're cheating or deceiving like the mythological fox.
"Megitsune" used to be a peyorative term in Japanese culture, pretty much just like around the world, but BM is using this as a way to empower women despite the meaning itself.
When SuMetal is pulling out the "tanto" she's saying "maidens shouldn't be underestimated", that refers to a japanese mob film about some boss mafia daughter before attacking someone. During live performance she does something different and looks really cool doing it.
Megitsune is a quintessential BM song and among top ranking songs by fans, SuMetal said she didn't mastered yet, that's why she used to sound check with this song before live concerts.
The origin of the "fox sign" is really long to explained but here's a short summary:
The Fox God (Kitsune Sama) is the Metal God who sent these girls (and Kami Band after to help them with the metal sound) to unify the world and set them free from Jpop slavery. The kitsune sign came out by accident around the time they created the group by the girls when trying to imitate the typical metal horn sign they noticed it was similar when doing fox shadow shape, they implemented this as part of the lore, imagery, theme and live concerts, the lore is huge so take your time and keep digging and riding the Foxhole 🦊🤘
Btw they praised for real and made a ritual to the Fox God for this song to be a hit and successful, and thanks to the Fox God this is one of their major hits and favorite BM fan songs. -NotACult- 👀
This is a song with the arrangements by YuppeMetal, he took inspiration from "Memphis May Fire - The Sinner" for the drum section, another song that i recommend you for your own time if you want.
    Next suggestion:
    - Ijime, Dame, Zettai live at Sonisphere Festival 2014.
    See you next time. 🦊🤘🔥

Great reaction. 'Megitsune' is a difficult song to sing - so Su-metal uses it for sound checks and to check how she is sounding before concerts.
It often tops fan polls for favourite song (so not a surprise you saying much the same) and they have played it live more often than any other song.
It is arguably the song that showcases best what BABYMETAL are about and one that truly reflects their Japanese culture the best starting with the traditional instruments in the intro and the lyrics about women being compared to foxes (kitsune - which also explains all the fox masks) which, in Japanese mythology, are able to shape shift and take human form in order to deceive.
It is also a bit of a push back against the traditional female role in Japanese society I think - or maybe it is - whilst also praising and celebrating the women who have played that role over the years for their strength.
They are saying that women wearing their make up and hiding their true feelings ("crying at heart, smiling at face") are not trying to deceive anybody, they are simply trying to please everybody - so they are not kitsune (foxes), they are megitsune (female foxes or vixens) - and they are strong.
The build up before they started and the breakdown in the middle of the song (the pig squeal screams are more obvious in the studio recording) uses the exact melody of an old and very well known Japanese folk song called 'Sakura Sakura' (Cherry Blossoms).
When Su pulled the short blade from her mic she said "Otome wa ... nametara ikan zeyo." (Maidens ... shouldn't be underestimated). The last part of this is a famous quote from a Japanese gangster movie said by the daughter of a gang boss.

[MOA] SU-METAL will slash you. Really.
    [YUI] Yeah. [SU] (laughs)
(Megitsune video commentary from the BABYMETAL members)
Su was 15. Yui and Moa were 13, almost 14 when this video was released.
Even though they were wearing white robes, this was not the Kami Band.
The performers pretending to play the traditional Japanese instruments in this video are dancers with the Movement Design group.
Chidori Yakumo is their director. She is the woman performing the fan dance during the breakdown.
Thanks for reacting to this one. Megitsune is my jam.
It's still my favorite BABYMETAL song, video and choreography.
Definitely quintessential BABYMETAL and their most Japanese song.
BABYMETAL's producer Koba sent this song back to the song arranger Yuyoyuppe dozens of times before he was satisfied with it.
This one often tops fan polls, and has been performed live more than any other BABYMETAL song.
Much of the video was shot on location on a Noh drama stage by the Asagaya Shinmei Shrine in Tokyo.
This has since become something of a pilgrimmage site for BABYMETAL fans.
BTW, @AldoGuerraALDO-METAL has the correct pronunciation for "Megitsune" in his comment.

Great Babymetal reaction as always. They have come out with new songs when you think about it as this video is like 10 years old which is amazing. Love Your comments and insights. I generally hate earworms myself as they can drive you crazy. But when you mentioned them in this reaction I realized I haven't minded the Babymetal ones at all. Their songs are infectious and Su's voice, well it is really something special. I've never heard its like before and it is magic.

    Megitsune:-
"Megitsune" (メギツネ, "Vixen") is the second major label single by the Japanese kawaii metal band Babymetal. It was released in Japan on June 19, 2013 as the fifth single from the album Babymetal. It is also the first single released independently from the idol group Sakura Gakuin.
The single was first announced for a June release on April 1, 2013. The single was released in four versions: a standard edition and three limited editions. The "Ki", "Tsu", and "Ne" (Kitsune means "fox" in Japanese) limited editions included single artwork focused on Nakamoto, Mizuno, and Kikuchi respectively, and their included DVDs feature footage of two songs from each of the live performances from Live: Legend I, D, Z Apocalypse. Additionally, the single included a chance to contain a ticket to the premium event Kitsune Festival at Meguro Rock May Kan on July 14, 2013.
To promote the release, the band was featured in the June issue of Marquee and on the cover of the July issue of Hedoban, in addition to collaborating with Tower Records for the 34th rendition of the event No Music, No Idol?.
    Babymetal concert chronology:-
•Babymetal Death Match Tour 2013: May Revolution (2013)
    •Babymetal World Tour 2014 (2014).
The Babymetal Death Match Tour 2013: May Revolution (BABYMETAL DEATH MATCH TOUR 2013 -五月革命-, Babymetal Death Match Tour 2013 -Gogatsu Kakumei-) was a promotional concert tour by Babymetal, occurring in conjunction with the promotion of "Megitsune". The band performed four shows, with two on the final tour date, at the same venue. Customers who purchased tickets to the tour could receive an exclusive edition of the single, with a remix by Yuyoyuppe, under the name DJ'Tekina//Something.
According to Mizuno, the tour was designed to be a "training tour". During each of the four shows the three members wore stage costumes for the eras of "Doki Doki ☆ Morning" (which had become nostalgically small for them), "Headbangeeeeerrrrr!!!!!", and "Ijime, Dame, Zettai", respectively, with the final show premiering new costumes for "Megitsune".

    Japanese lesson.
    Proper pronunciation:
    Meh-ghee-tsu-neh.
Hard "G" as in gun. Also,
There is no silent "e" in Japanese. So any Japanese word you see with an "e" at the end will be enunciated. メギツネ(Megitsune) = メ(meh) ギ(ghee or gi) ツ(tsu) ネ(neh)

Awesome reaction! Megitsune (Meh-Git-Tsoo-Neh), “Female Fox”, is a quintessential Babymetal classic, and a fan favorite. The song played the most live, well over 300+ times in the past decade+.
This is a deep song tearing down the traditional double standard of women to hide their emotions in public, while being labeled a conniving “Megitsune”.
Babymetal tells modern girls that the definition of an ideal woman is changing, and they are pure hearted foxes, and shouldn’t be under-estimated.
Next suggestion: iine! (Official Music Video). Be prepared to be face slapped, lol.

One of my favorites, discovered them in 2016.Megitsune is Japanese for Female Fox.
I believe Su was 15 and Yui and Mao are 14!! What were you doing at 14??
Did you notice that Su had the mic/Knife in her hand for the entire MV?
There is a MV where the girls talk about the making the MV.
The set is a real temple in Japan and is must visit by The One when in Japan.

I also learn so much from the comments from the fan base: for instance, one pointed out how at the beginning YUI and MOA pull on SU’s Japanese costume and the next scene she is transformed into SU-METAL. I always enjoy watching a soul being captured by Su-Metal. 🦊 🖖❤

This is my no.1 song of Babymetal, only "Metali" got to the same place as it cause they have similar vibes. From new songs I definetly recommend "Monochrome" and "Metalizm", from older ones: "Iine" (it's a double "i" at the beggining, not "L") for something more experimental when Babymetal was trying stuff, "Doki doki morning" - thier first released MV, "Pa Pa Ya" for a newer but not the newest sound and with it "BxMxC" for rapping Su 😉 honestly all thier songs are bangers so it's hard not to recommend everything at the same time xD

saw this back in late 2013 and been hooked ever since. hard to believe this was shot when Su was 15 years old and the other two were 13. you got to see this live. it is hard to believe that Babymetal actually started when Su was 12 almost 13 and the other two were 11. how many little girls can do what they do at this young age. if i am not mistaken this song was the 4th that they did. you need to read the lyrics because this is a female empowerment song. also this is the very rare time we see Su with her hair down instead of pony tail.

As popular as Gimme chocolate was, to me, this is the quintessential Babymetal origin song. A blend of Japanese tradition and metal, along with their own unique flavor. The messaging is also very Babymetal, it's basically girl power. Talking about how women's place in Japanese society is ... a powerful and telling translated line they repeat is "women are actresses, smiling at face but crying at heart, we never show our tears" how powerful!
The new song Metali is a sort of a sequel, the music videof or that shows them in a very similar setting, even with some of the same themes like then kicking over Japanese teasets in order to make room for their dancing .. a pushing aside of certain traditions in order to make way for their own path, while also holding onto and recognizing some traditions.
    Really epic cool stuff!
It trips me out how tiny they were here, but with the same larger than life stage personalities.
I won't lie, just knowing Babymetal exists gives me hope for humanity 😂❤

How to say "Megitsune" ("Maiden" or "Female" Fox)
Say "May"...Say "Gee"...Say "tSu"(like Sue but with soft T at the beginning - like with a slight lisp )...Say "Nay".
May-Gee-tSu-Nay - Hear Su-metal sing it at 4:14 and agin at 6:06 in your video.
    Easy right??
LoL...it gets everyone!! I sure didn't get it right the first time I saw the name!
And don't worry about Babymetal shooting sky high, they are already there!! Their 3rd album "Metal Galaxy" in 2019 hit #1 in the USA on Billboards "Top Rock Album" chart and #1 in the UK on the "UK Rock" chart and their 4th Album, "The Other One" in 2023 hit #1 in Japan on the Oricon chart!!

Lots of great stuff to explore with BABYMETAL - they're always fun to watch, MVs or live.
If you're interested in BABYMETAL adjacent stuff, the obvious ones to try would be Nippon Manju by LADYBABY (turn on the captions) and Taking You Out by PassCode. Both are idol groups with a lot of inspiration from BABYMETAL while still bringing their own unique twists. For a more traditional band set-up, HANABIE. ( 花冷え。) seem to be the current darlings of the metal otaku. We Love Sweets (我甘党) is probably the best place to start. (They're booked for this year's Download festival along with BABYMETAL and Crystal Lake.) I'll also throw in a shout for Take My Chance by DOLL$BOXX - it'll give you an in to a couple of superb Japanese bands to explore.
If you want to take a slight side step to see punk and J-pop combined, there's an agency called WACK that have a bunch of idol groups working in that realm. They started with BiS (Brand-new idol Society) around the same time as BABYMETAL, the two spearheading the alternative (or anti) idol movement that allowed Japan's idol groups to explore more extreme music, attitudes and aesthetics. I'd normally recommend some early BiS, or something from the hugely successful BiSH, but I think I'll go with ASP this time as they're about to return to the UK for a London show in March. HAiKEi ROCKSTARSAMA (拝啓 ロックスター様 = Dear Rockstar) should keep your attention.
Bluffer's guide to Japanese pronunciation for Brits - this is very rough, but might be a helpful starting point. 1) Say every letter - only a few exceptions. 2) Usually say consonant/vowel groups with equal stress (e.g. me gi tsu ne). 3) Vowel sounds: a = ah, e = eh, i = ee, o = oh, u = oo (e.g. meh gee tsoo neh). 4) The r and l don't have the same amount of difference as they do in English, something that often gets mocked (rock/lock). There's a similar thing with b replacing v. Also g tends to be soft. 5) Sometimes you should de-voice the u, but it isn't wrong if you don't (e.g. desu = des, akatsuki = akatski). 6) Long vowel sounds can be indicated by a line above or after a vowel, or by a double vowel. Google translate will do text to audio quite well to help you hear what a word should sound like, but for translations DeepL is often a better choice. As with all rules, there are lots of exceptions - Japanese is tough to learn.

If you don't see the MVs for tracks like Megittsune, Iine, Headbanger and Karate, you're missing out on a lot of background information. Heck, I'd probably add Doki Doki Morning and Ijime Dame Zettai to the list, and Monochrome too. The live versions can be done later. Given there are zero musicians in BABYMETAL, I don't get the obsession for the live stuff. It loses a lot of the studio production detail and pop elements that make the group so original. It shouldn't be a surprise they put together a great set of musicians to do the music justice in a live setting. Recent live versions are also quite likely to attract the copyright police too. These guys seem impressed enough without the need to see fingers on fret boards. 🙂

@FourBleats i can understand your liking of the studio mv/recording but BabyMetal are a live performance band as they say themselves they are very visual band and some of us prefer that it is Su sounding like Su and not how the studio want her to sound . I like the studio/ mv as well worth checking out also 😃 👍

@@FourBleatstoday almost any band or performer can sound like a star with studio technology but it is LIVE where true talent is recognized and rightly so. It takes a combination of vocal ability, stage presence and energy to make it onstage. If I were someone reacting to a band I would want to know if they have the chops.
Watch a LIVE Babymetal performance and the question is put to rest.

@@martinmetal7481 If that were as true as you claim, they wouldn't release studio albums. I'm not seeing anyone doubting their capabilities, hence no need to rush off to live versions when the MVs often convey the story better. Besides, a lot of the pro-shot live material is more heavily treated than the studio versions. My preferences are irrelevant, but there are only a few MVs where as all but one track has a live version.
