    There was an early 2020 Macbook Air that came with an i3 that sucked when it came out and was made completely irrelevant and worthless only MONTHS later when the M1 Air came out for the EXACT same price. I feel so bad for anyone who bought one of those.

      My friend has that model 😭😭 I was so confused as to why he didn't get a M1 Air until I realized those came out later of that year. His fans always ramped up for some reason and he eventually had to retire it when his trackpad and keyboard broke. Felt like such a waste of money

      True, but at least that model was considered somewhat good at the time and was reliable. These ones in the video were even worse, the 2019 Air has a Y-series i5 that is even slower than that dual core i3.

      I have one of those, but an i5, I mean yeah it kinda hurts the M1 came months later and basically makes this thing useless unless you need bootcamp, but it works fine tbh, maybe it needs a battery change tho.

      Agree. I see people trying to sell this model and they always avoid writing the processor. Often the price they ask is similar to M1. People seems to be aware as it does not seem easy to sell.

    The 12-inch from 2017 I had was a catastrophe. The keys would cause the display coating to wear off. That happened three times, so due to consumer laws in Norway I was able to get a replacement device from todays lineup (or money back), which was an M2 MacBook Air. At one point, for one of the by law repairs, part of the logic board had melted, rendering the webcam useless. I am so glad the consumer laws worked in my favour, as it was truly a miserable computer in an amazing form factor.

    As others have said, the 12 inch wasn’t all that bad. The processor was painful, but the rest of it was acceptable. By the time the 2017 came around, Apple had ironed out most of the issues.
    I have a 2015 model that actually works alright except for the dead battery.

    I have a 2019 MacBook Air, and I use it every day for school. Ive had it since it was new, and it’s plenty fast enough to have lots of chrome tabs, PowerPoints, and Zoom meetings running at the same time. Plus, the battery still lasts the whole day, even at 950 cycles.

    We still have the 2016 MacBook at home and it was never meant to be the main machine. It was for light work while travelling. It still works and does everything it was meant for. We even manage to do some illustrator work on it as well if absolutely nothing else can be used at the moment. It’s a good laptop, it lasted a long time and the design was great. Never had any issues with the keyboard either.

    Great video and comparisons. My first MacBook is the 2008 MB, which I love because so easy to upgrade and replace the battery, ram, storage. Got a couple of 2010-2013 MBP and they are great machines in term of design, performance and upgradability.
    My highest end MB is a 2018 and I been seeing this 2019 MBA around which now I would try to avoid and either get a 2020 or M1 or 2.

  • @iMattheush
    @iMattheush 2 месяца назад +9

    2017 12" MacBook wasn't at all one of the worst. I can agree about 2018/19 MBA, 12" was an enormous technological feat and it's only weakness was caused by underpowered Intel CPUs (a more powered ones simply wasn't available at this time). Almost all of the problems of 2015 and 2016 models (failing SSDs, failing CPUs, no 16GB RAM options) was mostly solved, except keyboard, while improved in 2017 was still unsatisfactory by terms of ruggedness.

    • @GoJot
      @GoJot  2 месяца назад +2

      It’s a beautiful device! But in terms of performance it just can’t keep up. The 2015 12” is certainly worse, I just couldn’t find a decent one to use in a video.

      And they feel pretty good to type on in my opinion, very fast too like they said on the video. I had a 2017 MacBook Pro 15" for a little while before I upgraded to a M1 Pro MacBook Pro, and I actually preferred the butterfly keyboard. It had a nice, kind of mechanical feel and sound compared to the normal, obviously membrane but tactile enough keyboard found on all MacBooks after the butterfly keyboard. I did have few cases of keys not bottoming out on the 2017, but those were quickly fixed as there just a speck of dust or something underneath the key, it's easy to clean them.

    A 2017 12" i7 model with 16GB is probably the only version of that you should get. And for Intel MacBook Airs? The 2020 Intel is well, alright? It has a magic keyboard and way more processing power than the 2017 Airs I see so often so it wouldnt be a bad choice. And for some games you could use an eGPU if you want

  • @GhostSheep96
    @GhostSheep96 Месяц назад

    I had a 2017 MBP 13" before I got my 2023 MBP 14" last year. I really hated the butterfly keyboard because keys where blocked so often for no obvious reason. Maybe some tiny dust particles or what so ever blocked the mechanism, but it was annoying as hell. The performance was..... yeah, it was okay. Wasn't the best, but wasn't completely bad either. At least not for mu purposes. But, of course, the i5 chip was nothing compared to the M2 Pro which my current MBP got. Also, heat was a massive issue with the 2017 MBP in my experience. Where the 2017 case already got hot, I have no issues with the thicker 2023 MBP. Cooling solution improved sooo much. I really love it. Also, beeing limited to only 2 USB-C ports was horrible. Plus you need an extension chord for USB-C thumb drives when you want to charge your MBP at the same time since the USB-C ports where so close together, that a larger thumb drive blocked the other port slightly so that you where unable to plug in the charger. It was like day and night to me, when I switched to the 2023 model xD

    I work at a company where we resell used tech and im the mac technician and the a2179 and a1932 macbook airs are the worst ones i get in.
    the batteries in them seem to completely die which causes the system to be incredibly slow which causes them to fail to complete an OS install which means we are unable to sell them as i am unable to secure data wipe them (running our software by turning off the t2 security)
    the 12 inch models seem to often have dead ssds rendering them not financially viable to repair and get drilled.

    • @GoJot
      @GoJot  Месяц назад

      Such a shame they go to waste… apparently the 12” can be fixed by soldering a new component on the board. I guess it’s the same capacitor or resister that goes bad on all of them. Worth looking into!

    I own an M1 Pro 14’ and an M1 Air, plus an M1 iPad Air. I have the 12’ MacBook also and use it more than anything else. I use my Pro to produce my podcast, and my Air is my administrative device. My 12’ is my travel computer. I use the 12’ daily paired with my iPad.
    I think the 12’ MacBook gets a bad rep from reviewers. I can do everything, outside of editing, and it’s unbelievably compact. I have Sonoma on an of my devices, and it’s a good experience on everything.
    I have no regrets with any of my purchases.

      It would probably work. Considering how powerful the new ipad pro m4 11 inch is for such a tiny thin device. They could easily make a slightly thicker device in the form of a 12 inch macbook and still have the full height keyboard (not butterfly keyboard). While having full performance, macOS and good battery life.
